I gotta stop posting topics. This will be my last for awhile. But I thought this was important enough to have its own topic.
And now, the latest change... MJ was never pregnant...

HA! So much for Joe Q's notion that "With the exception of Peter and MJ getting married, all the stories still count" defense. Still, I can totally understand why this was retconned. The idea that Peter and MJ, now living together in a common law marriage rather than an actual marriage, almost having a child out of wedlock would certainly have been bad form, and was one of the reasons behind why Joe Q didn't want Peter to be the father of Gwen's mutant ninja kids in Sins Past. So at least that uncomfortable subject is out (although it wouldn't have been uncomfortable to begin with had it been they were still married).
However, this is going to be bad news to the Clone Saga fans because if MJ NEVER got pregnant with Peter's kid the whole time they were together, then this pretty much invalidates a good chunk of the clone saga--maybe even all of it. And if that's the case, then there really is no logical reason for Norman Osborn to even be back.

Where do you get the idea that baby May was integral to Norman's return? The reason Norman came out of hiding and chose to confront Peter and Ben directly in "Revelations" was not because of the baby and not because of Harry's death but, first and foremost, because the Clone Saga had not gone according to plan. Peter wasn't suffering like Norman wanted, so that prompted him to come out into the open and make him suffer.
Anyway, I know I've been saying that MJ's pregnancy has been erased from history since OMD finished. Maybe next time you guys will listen to me. :oldrazz: :woot:

Aloha,
As far as continuity, The second Clone Saga was slowly being erased for many years now.It would appear that the first Clone Incident still happened.Baby May only exists in the MC2 Universe.

It's a simple case of cause and effect. You are correct that the baby was never integral to Norman coming out of hiding and that the baby was incidental. HOWEVER, MJ becoming pregnant is what eventually lead to the "revelation" that Peter was "the clone" and that Ben Reilly was the "original." How? Well, if you remember, MJ was concerned about her baby because of the radioactive properties in Peter's blood, so eventually, she had Ben Reilly's friend Seward Trainer do a prenatal test. They discovered something unusual about the baby that seemed to suggest it had properties similar to Clones and the fear was that it could be going through clone degeneration. (This was before it was revealed that Seward rigged them). As a result, both Peter and Ben both tested their blood and it was because of those blood sample that they "discovered" Ben was the real Peter Parker and that Peter was actually the clone. So, if MJ hadn't become pregnant, then much of what happened in the clone saga would never have come about...including Norman Osborn's return.

And while you were right about Baby May, remember, at the time One More Day came out, it only looked as though the daughter Peter and MJ would've had if they stayed married wouldn't come into existence, NOT prior pregnancies that MJ had. That's because Joe Q said that, with the exception of the marriage, ALL the stories still count, which would INCLUDE MJ getting pregnant during the Clone Saga.

Wow, you have a better memory of that era than I do. Can I get back to you on this? :woot:

Sure. Slight correction on my part, though. Double checking the Life of Reilly (http://www.newcomicreviews.com/GHM/specials/LifeOfReilly/9.html) website (on the issue in question), the prenatal test Dr. Trainer did on MJ discovered the baby was fine, except that, supposedly, it revealed that one of the parents may be a clone, and that was the only thing that prompted the tests. The possibility of the baby undergoing clone degeneration might have been what the reader was supposed to think prior to the revelation, so I may have mixed that up. Was a long time ago since I read much of the Clone Saga. Still, it was because MJ was pregnant that ultimately led to Peter being "revealed" as the Clone.

Someone needs to send the card game Chrononauts to Joey Q.
If it doesn't teach him the problems with changing the past... then at least it might distract him long enough that he gets fired for not going to work.

I know some people were clinging to the MJ is sick before choosing scene. Unlike TV, a woman being sick to her stomach doesn't automatically equal pregnancy. She was thinking about making a foul decision on her life. I can only imagine what Joey Q will miraculously come up with regarding Sarah and Gabriel. Does anyone find it odd that there was never any real issue of pregnancy, despite both Peter and MJ seemingly healthy adults and being married a long time? Maybe someone is sterile, or they aren't compatible genetically (due to Peter's situation).
Doesn't matter to me at this point, they're just making it up as they go anyway.

The reason Norman had Peter and Ben do the tests was because Peter being married with a baby on the way meant he finally had a lot to lose. Since he never got married and apparently kept wearing rubbers Norman would not have put the events of the clone saga into action...yet!

Well I didn't doubt for one second that this was going to happen. Is it really a shock to anyone at this point? Seriously, I think the fans kind of got so used to be sh**ed on that they just gave up, lol. I really wish that Marvel would at least acknowledge the fact that MJ was pregnant.
But whatever...Nothing shocks me at this point.

The whole "Power and Responsibility" story that led to Peter finally handing the webs over to Ben was over Peter being convinced that "there is no greater responsibility" than that of a father and husband.
Without both the marriage and the pregnancy, Pete wouldn't have given up being Spidey, so Ben would've never been Spidey.
This also means that Peter and MJ never moved to Portland, Oregon for a little while.

Did anything happen to Peter? I mean: is there something that is not being retconned?

If you want to read about a Spider-Man time skew in which they acknowledge she was pregnant, there's this lovely little book called Spider-Girl.
Seriously, it's the perfect comic for those who wanna follow an imaginary, yet logical timeline of 90's Spidey.
ESPECIally if you wanna see neo-classic villains like Hobby, Carnage and Black Tarantula.
