Not much of a manip so I'll probly do more to it later but it gives an idea of what Duke will look like. If I have time I'll do some others I know I'll do a Storm Shadow when I get the chance I've already got the perfect base.

I always pictured Duke to be in his mid-30's but why is some actor known for hip hop dancing movies chosen to play him?

If he was older he'd have a decent look for the role but I'm still wondering why Tatum of all the actors out there. I'm personally gonna give him a chance but that doesn't keep me from wondering.

Old school Duke did look like he was in his early-mid 30's, but the most recent (Sigma 6) depiction of Duke looks considerably younger, and Tatum fits that look.

Well I haven't seen a date for when Duke was supposed to have been born, but his file card says he joined the Army in 67'. So unless I've missed a DOB while I've been looking, I would say he joined the Army at 18. Which would mean he was in his mid 30's in the Cartoons, in the first season I would put him at 34. I'm not up to date on the basic plot of the movie but since Channing Tatum will be 28 this year I have no real problem with him as Duke for now. Personaly I think the Sigma 6 Duke and one or two other look to young.

I figured since we've got some official pics, and a few people have already done a couple of manips, let's put them all in one place. I also know a lot of people are unhappy with the costumes, so, let's see some fan art/manips of the actors in costumes you would use.

Well I don't really know much about G.I. Joe and have never really been a fan, but I love Rachel Nichols and I found a hi-res version of this image so I decided to make a poster out of it. If I can find hi-res versions of the other official images I'll make more.
I'll put it in spoiler tags to save room in the thread (it's huge)

where did you get the logo? It's based on the logo I saw here: http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/17/first-look-gi-joe-movie-logo/
I traced that logo with the pen tool and then enlarged the path to the size I wanted, then I filled it with a gradient and did the drop shadow and outer glow using layer effects. Basically everything but the actual image of Scarlett I drew myself, and I even touched up that image quite a bit.
Here's the logo by itself if you want to use it, I don't care. I took off all of the effects and put it on a black background so anyone who wants to use it should be able to extract it easily.

I thank you.
You're welcome! Also, here's another poster I just finished, it's of Channing Tatum as Duke. I tried to make him look a little older since that's the main gripe I've been hearing about him. Hopefully they'll release a version of this image in a higher resolution, I had to enlarge it some which took away from the quality a bit.
Edit: removed the image while I work on another version using a higher quality image.
Edit: Ok, here it is:

Wow man you are really good. How did you manage to remove them from the background so well. Please tell me cause I am a big fan of photoshop but i never really could extract them, so well. Please tell me how you do it. Thank you.Well this is going to be kind of long, I should probably just send you a PM but there may be other people who want to read this so I'll just post it in the thread. Keep in mind I'm not a professional or anything, I'm just speaking from experience.
First of all, thanks for the compliments! Now, the most professional way to extract an image from it's background is to create a layer mask. I use an old version of Photoshop (5.5) so I'm not sure how to do this in newer versions but it's probably the same or very similar. You go to "Layer" in the menu and choose "Add Layer Mask" from the sub-menu and then choose "Reveal All" from that sub-menu. Then select the mask and use black to draw over the areas you want to hide. This is the most professional way because it is a "non-destructive" method. In other words, you don't actually remove any part of the image, you just hide it. This makes it much easier to correct mistakes than if you were to remove the background using the eraser tool, and also allows you to fine-tune edges much easier.
Another good tip for images with very dark shadows is to create a Levels adjustment layer (Layer > New > Adjustment Layer, Type: Levels) and move the slider for midtones almost right next to the slider for blacks. This will allow you to see details in shadows that were not previously visible. Turn on the layer when you are trying to remove the background from very shadowy areas, then turn it back off to see if it looks right. Something else to watch out for is what are commonly referred to as "flyaway hairs." Those are little individual strands of hair that are sticking up all over the place. A good example of this is seen in the poster of Scarlett. If you compare it to the original poster you'll see that quite a bit of detail in the hair is lost, but it still looks natural. My personal strategy is to just completely remove/hide all flyaway hairs, and then kind of make up details afterwards if needed. If that doesn't work for you, there are plenty of plugins you can download for photoshop that are designed specifically for extracting flyaway hairs.
The biggest tip of all though is to just be patient. The more time you spend removing the background, the better the final product will look. I probably spent close to 2 hours just removing the images form their backgrounds on these two posters. Of course, the larger the image is the longer it will take, and those were both pretty large. Also, pay attention to detail. Use hard brushes for hard edges and soft brushes for soft edges. And one more thing; if you're working with an image that you plan on shrinking down, remove the background BEFORE you shrink it down. It will take longer, but it will also be more accurate, because a lot of detail is lost when you shrink an image.
Well That's all of the tips I have for you, besides of course to practice, practice, practice.
Thank you so much, very much appreciated. I'm a big fan of photoshop and what you did there is incredible. Thank you for the tips.
