But they didn't.

We know?

Please the refs let them play. And why don't you watch the whole game, like the first play when the Patriots pulled down a Giants player by the face mask. It was a pretty even game officiating wise.

Wrong.

So saying that was idiotic but saying the Patriots will go undefeated hours after the Superbowl is genius?

No, thats alcohol+upset.

Don't tell us we don't know football when you come off as an overzealous fan instead of being objective which you aren't.

How can I think you know football when your saying the Pats not being able to adjust in the super bowl is why theyll lose in 2008.

I think they won't go undefeated. I don't think they made big plays in the off season or during the draft and have an aging line. That's why I think they won't go undefeated.

my issue is that some Pats fans just won't acknowledge the Giants played a better game that night....

BUT THEY DIDN'T!!! Everyone is lookin' at the Super Bowl through rose-tinted glasses. Both teams offenses were sloppy and mistake prone. The defenses played great on both sides. The Pats D only allowed a field goal in the first half and the Giants D only alloed one score. The first half was a great DEFENSIVE game. It wasn't until the second half that the Giants actually scored a touchdown. Then New England eventually came back and scored again.

Then, since you folks seem to have amnesia, with a little over 2 mins on the clock, Eli Manning throws a pass that literally tips off Asante Samuel's hands. He threw the ball DIRECTLY at him!!! Any other day, Samuel catches that pass and the game's over. The very next play, the Giants have the "Greatest Super Bowl Play Ever." Like I said before, if they called holding on that play, Eli goes back and his chances of scoring diminish. But he made the play and they proceeded to score.

Then the pats, with a little under a minute left, had two really good chances to not only make it into field goal range, but to score. Moss nearly catches a long bomb, with two defenders on him, but it bounces off his finger tips The Giants D really stepped up with those last 4 plays preventing the normally clutch Patriots from even getting into field goal range. They did their job.

But to say that the Giants as a whole played better is wholly inaccurate. Believe it or not the better team does not always win the game. Remember the Colts/Chargers game during the season last year. There really was no concievable way that the Chargers should have won that game. If it wasn't for some sloppy plays and weird officiating, the Colts would have won. As much as I'm not a fan of the Colts, I will say that they are a better team than the Charger, but the Chargers won that game.

The Pats lost, AFTER going undefeated for 18 games. They were the better team. The Giants were a wild card team. But like I said, let's be real here, they need events to happen that normally would NEVER happen before. ELI MANNING (!!!) shrugging off at least 2 linebackers that had him in their hands, a nobody reciever who is able to pin the football on his helmet with almost superhuman strength as Harrison literally beats the hell out of the ball& Asante Samuel missing what has to be the easiest interception ever thrown his way (hell, he's caught more difficult passes). These are all abnormalities. I would not be surprised next season if Eli returns to being knocked on his ass regularly, David Tyree will never catch another pass that difficult again and Asante Samuels never drops another pass that easily again.

I find it funny that when a fan of a team talks about a game involving their team and mentions an uncalled penalty is complaining. I haven't mentioned any other bad call. I've only been talking about ONE no-call.

A few thoughts:

- Brett Favre should not come back, as it will ruin his legacy. We have seen this before. Johnny Unitas as a Charger, Joe Namath as a Ram, Emmitt Smith as a Cardinal. Heck, in basketball, Michael Jordan ruined his legacy by coming back and playing for the Wizards. I believe in baseball it was Willie Mays that ended his career playing in New York.
- As a Cowboys fan, I was rooting for the Giants to win the Super Bowl, only because I did not want the Pats to go undefeated.
- I wonder how Frank Gore is going to feel in Mike Martz Pass, Pass, Pass, Pass Offense. If he's used like Marshall Faulk or Steven Jackson, he will be happy. If he's used like Kevin Jones in Detroit, he won't be happy.
- Jags WR Matt Jones is a retarded idiot. He'll be suspended 4 games for sure.

No way. Guys like Favre (and every one else that you mentioned, for that matter) need to do a whole lot more than sign with a different team to "ruin" their legacy. Did playing for the Chiefs really tarnish all that Montana accomplished in SF? How about MJ playing for the Wizards? Do his 2 years in Washington trump his 13 years and 6 titles in Chicago? No chance.

Reality is, the majority of people who follow sports don't/won't even remember that some of the all-time greats ended their careers doing little to nothing with other teams. If anything you'll get an "Oh yeah. I forgot ____ played for ____." as opposed to a "____ ruined his legacy for playing with ____"

Most of the greats in every sport have played with another team sometime in their career. It doesn't ruin their legacy a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing Brett come back, but the constant media coverage is getting annoying.

The only problem I have with this whole Favre/Green Bay crap is that he should have listened to everyone the first time. I knew back when this all started that he was gonna want to come back. Of course he would be down, his last play ever ended with an interception. He was emotional and irrational. Had he took some time to think about it instead of just throwing in the towel. I don't blame Green Bay one bit for telling him that he has to be a back up. They've been preparing this whole time to have Rodgers as their starter and now because he changes his mind at the last minute, they've gotta scrap all their planning? Nope, if I was Green Bay I'd do the same thing. Business is business and Favre, no matter what his absurb "legend" status, made a bad bsusiness move. He reacted to losing like a big baby and now he's regretting his decision now that he sees that his team is more than capable of moving on. I'm not saying Aaron Rodgers is the second coming, but they should at least give the guy a shot.

But Brett is pretty much ****ing GB right now. I mean he was the one that CHOOSE to retire - he did so willingly and voluntarily. GB has since had to change their entire franchise basically and get it behind a new QB in Aaron Rodgers, now Favre pulls this **** and completely changes GB's plan.

Now he wants GB to release him - which would almost certainly land him in either Chicago or Minnesota, which hurts Green Bay.

The only way this situation ends well is if Favre stops being a ***** or GB trades Favre to Miami for Jason Taylor.

He is ****ing Green Bay right now. That's why they should either release or trade him. Let him be someone elses problem. They could trade him somewhere and get something in return.

Now he wants GB to release him - which would almost certainly land him in either Chicago or Minnesota, which hurts Green Bay.

This is why they should trade him somewhere outside of the divison. AFC would be much better. Miami or Baltimore would be good suitors. If they release him, he probably ends up in Carolina, Tampa, Atlanta, Chicago or Minnesota.

The only way this situation ends well is if Favre stops being a ***** or GB trades Favre to Miami for Jason Taylor.

I think this is their best option. They get rid of Brett, trade him out of the conference and get a good defensive player in return. It's a win-win situation for both teams.

Miami doesn't want Favre. It's one thing if they're a few pieces away from being a playoff/title contender. They went 1 and BLEEPING 15 last season. As bad as Favre wants to play - do you think that he wants any part of a rebuilding team.

I haven't heard anything about Miami NOT wanting Brett Favre on thier team. I heard they didn't want to comment on it at the time. So why can't the Dolphins get him so he can be a mentor to the future of the franchise? Do you really think that Beck or Henne are going to make an impact right away? I watched Beck play a little last season and he was horrible. I believe it was one of the Buffalo games.

No player is ever bigger than the franchise. Ever. Especially when

1)He retired on his own
2)Rodgers looked great against Dallas

If Favre expected to just walk in and have his job back after giving it someone else because he changed his mind(which is what seems to be the case) then sucks because thats to how things work.

And I dunno if Miami would want Favre. They are clearly in full on rebuilding mode, but theres always the chance they bring him on to mentor Beck/Henne/whoever. He could also help out Ted Ginn.

Rookie QB's don't usually come into the league and set it on fire. Beck had his moments last season, he's only going to get better. Whether he's the QB of the future, I don't know. Same goes for Henne. Let him step on the field first before making any guesses on what he'll become. As for Favre stepping in as a "mentor" to one of the Miami guys...he didn't even want to do it for Rodgers in GB (said it himself a few years ago) so I wouldn't count on him doing so elsewhere.

But Rodgers has had a chance to watch Brett Favre play for three years. That's why I believe he is ready to lead the Packers. I think Miami should take a look at getting Favre. If Favre comes to Miami and plays well, he takes the franchise out of that 1-15 season and points them in the right direction. Then either Beck or Henne can take over the team after they've watched Brett play(just like what Rodgers has done). If Brett fails to lead the team, then the Dolphins have two QB's that could take over for the future. It's a risk doing this, but I think Miami should seriously look into it.

If he gets traded to a bottom feeder team chances are he'll STAY retired. He's either playing for the Packers, going to a contender (via trade because the Packers won't release him), or staying home for good. He's not going to want to play for a 6-10 non-playoff team.

He said he has the "itch" to play again. I think he's gonna try his hardest to get a release from the Packers. If that doesn't work then he's gonna have to accept whatever fate comes his way, even if that means getting traded to a horrible team. I'm pretty sure what the Packers will do is allow Favre's agent to speak to the approved teams that they give them and allow them to choose where he wants to play.

Howdy all.
I'm here see if any of you all are interested in joining the SHH Goal Line Blitz football team.
Granted, I figure that if any of you were interested, you would've posted in the thread by now. But, it can't hurt to ask, so...

For those who don't know Goal Line Blitz (http://goallineblitz.com/) is a MMO Football RPG where you create players (duh), assign them points to attributes and such, get signed to teams, and, of course, play some football.

Hype member Badger is getting a team for the next GLB season which will begin in a week or so, and the team will be populated strictly by Hype members.
As such, we're looking to see if we can recruit some of you Hypesters who are football fans to join the team.

If you aren't familiar with GLB, check out the link above and start an account (it's free).

If you're interested in being a part of the Hype Team in GLB, just post your interest in the Goal Line Blitz thread right here in the sports forum. Or if you have some questions about it, just ask in the GLB thread and we'll try to answer them as best we can.

Thanks for your time.

Report: Giants to trade Shockey to the Saints

The Giants have reportedly agreed to trade Jeremy Shockey to the Saints in exchange for second- and fifth-round picks. Shockey still must pass a physical.

It's a risky trade for the Saints, but the perfect place for Shockey to improve his fantasy value. New Orleans desperately needs a second receiver to catch passes over the middle, and Shockey can top his career high in receptions (74) if he stays healthy for once. That would make him a top-six TE again, albeit one with huge injury risk. It's unclear if Shockey will even be ready for camp. The Giants turned down the same offer in April, but they got plenty of value to eliminate a distraction. Kevin Boss should take over at tight end. Jul. 21 - 2:15 pm et

I read an article in the New York Post or Daily News, can't remember how it was a big mistake to let go of Shockey. And attitude aside, and if you want to call the Giants playoff run "coincidental" in terms of his injury, I still think the Giants are better off. Shockey use to yell at Manning to throw him the ball.

They went on to win 5 out of the next 6 games under the harshest of conditions and opponents. I hope Boss steps up and fills that position but I think they will be fine.

It's wise for Giants to trade Shockley, as he is a prima donna TE who doesn't block and as long he's in NY Eli will never become a leader due to his presence. Let's see if Shockley will behave himself in New Orleans.

Steelers sign top picks Mendenhall and Sweed
Friday, July 25, 2008
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers came to contract terms today with their top two draft picks and will have all their picks signed to contracts when they open training camp Sunday in Latrobe.

Running back Rashard Mendenhall, the team's first-round draft choice, came to terms on a five-year deal. Wide receiver Limas Sweed, their second-round choice, agreed to a four-year contract.

Mendenhall will sign for five years at $12.55 million. He will receive bonuses as part of that contract worth $6.83 million. Contract terms for Sweed were not immediately available.

Really? Why do you think that Mendenhall will be a bust?

I don't believe he will, he will have a couple of years before he will have to carry the load of starting runningback unless the Steelers trade Parker next year and I don't believe they will...The Steelser will beef up the OL in the next couple of years and that will help him, I think that Mendenhall will surprise people with how solid of a RB he will turn out to be.

Favre close to being sent to Tampa...

07-27-2008, 05:06 PM
According to the Tampa Tribune, "it is believed" that the Packers and Bucs were close to agreeing on compensation in a trade that would've sent Brett Favre to Tampa Bay on Saturday.

The Tribune suggests that renewed talks Sunday may have been why Favre and Green Bay are at a standstill. In addition, beat reporter Roy Cummings says "it is believed" that the Jets are not bidding for Favre's services. The Packers are thought to be holding out for a conditional draft pick that could escalate to a first-rounder if Favre plays a certain amount of games. Jul. 27 - 2:24 pm et

The Favre situation is such a terrible dilemma for the Packers.

They can't trade him to Minnesota. They simply can't. Even if Favre wants it, and even if Minnesota wants him the most, they can't do it. But on the other hand the Bucs and the Jets, the two teams "rumored" to be interested in Favre, aren't going to give the Packers what they're asking for.

But here's the catch: everyone knows the Packers can't afford to let Favre slip into Minnesota's hands, so they have to deal him elsewhere. And those teams that are interested in him know this, as well. So they'll scoff at the Packers offers, knowing that the Packers have everything to lose and absolutely zero leverage.

So the Packers only have three real options:
1.) Reduce their offer and give Favre up to a team not named the Vikings.
2.) Keep Favre and give him back the starting job, effectively screwing over Aaron Rodgers.
3.) Or let him go to Minnesota, creating an even bigger potential disaster situation.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that quarterback Brett Favre has been reinstated to the NFL.

Favre plans to fly to Green Bay on Sunday and report to camp. The latest rumor is that the Packers plan to let Favre do only individual work in camp and release him the day before the season starts. At that point, he'll be so far behind that he won't be able to help a team like the Vikings early in the season.

Interesting rumor. However, one FUBAR'd camp for Favre on the Packer's part is hardly going to make that big of a dent in the game and skill of a seasoned pro like Brett. He'll still be a huge asset to whatever team picks him up. And, I'd kind of like to see the Vikings pick him up because it could make for some hellacious games against Green Bay. I'd laugh my ass off if they did and then he gave Green Bay a thumping as a Viking, actually.

favre just created this entire mess; he's a freakin' indecisive attention whore.

the packers are also idiots if the reports right now are correct: that they are going to give favre a chance at the starting job.

good job alienating your future qb (rodgers) who is, by the way, approaching the end of his tenure at green bay without getting a shot to play. favre has 2 years left in him, max; if he starts, the franchise can say goodbye to their future in aaron rodgers since he'll likely bolt for another team with less complications and more playing time.

A few things I noticed while watching last nights game.

The 'Skins defensive backups were pretty terrible, except 7th round draft pick Chris Horton... He was everywhere

Quinn Gray looked alright

Jared Lorenzen is still ridiculously fat

The Colts "starting" defensive line looked good

Colt Brennan was great against the Colts' 4th stringers

'Skins starting O looked good for the first 3 plays

Mike Hart looked great... as he should (go blue)

Marcus Mason knows how to run the football

Justin Tryon ('Skins 4th rounder) looked pretty bad (burned for a TD, pass interference penalty)

:lmao: Brennan's got potential, but he's got a loooooooong way to go before he'll be a true asset as a QB in the NFL. He was coddled in the WAC; all those Samoans on Hawaii's O-line were bigger than everyone else's D-lines in that conference and able to keep most of those guys off of him the majority of the time. Whenever they played teams outside of the WAC with real D-Lines he'd get the s**t sacked out of him over and over again (like that Georgia game you posted clips of) and he didn't know what the hell to do when he was being rushed like that. He's got the skills, but it's whether he can learn how to use them rather than freeze up and take a pummeling or not that's the question. Kid's got an arm like a rocket when he wants to use it and can run the ball when he's not choking on some 300 pounder's forearm.

This whole Brett Favre soap opera was all about egos and not about winning football games. As much as Favre is to blame for this, Ted Thompson should be blamed even more. You tell everyone that you're moving forward with Aaron Rodgers but yet you still won't cut Brett Favre loose. If you really think Aaron Rodgers is the future of the franchise, you cut your losses with Favre and either cut him or trade him. The Packers remind me of the guy who has a new girlfriend but won't let go of the ex-girlfriend because she might end up with one of his buddies. If I'm Aaron Rodgers, I would never sign another contract with the Packers. He seems to be the only level headed person in all of this.
