A rookie wideout is really gonna step in and be the next Santana Moss... :whatever:. Eagles have the worst receiving core. I think the Giants/Skins/Boys have an equally good RB tandem as Eagles... and all three teams have better offensive lines. Eagles defense isn't much better than any of the other teams in the division.
DeSean has looked outstanding; I cant recall the last time a rookie wr dominated 1st stringers on offense in the preseason as much as he has.
More dynamic than Marion Barber? I don't think so.
More all purpose.. more experienced... yes.
More dynamic? I don't think so. Barber is the reincarnation of Earl Cambell.

Aye...Barber is gonna be such a dissapointment. I would be surprised if he tops 1100.

Not bad. Although I don't see the Colts winning a string of road games in the playoffs... and I don't see them getting a bye either... and I don't think Seattle can win a Championship game in Dallas, although they'd be one of the last teams Dallas would want to face in the first round. I think you are too wrapped up in previous Superbowl teams regaining that edge and making another run when that isn't the norm in the NFL. To each his own though...

Goodell Wants to Expand the Regular Season (Finally!)
"NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is ready to move forward on expanding the regular season for 2010. And he wants to contract the preseason. Goodell says he understands that fans aren't happy about paying full price for preseason games. With the current offseason workout schedule teams use, there's no need for four preseason games.
Some interesting questions come out of this. If the NFL expands to 17 games, who gets the extra home game? Or does it go overseas?
The 1972 Dolphins and Emmitt Smith are ecstatic. Now, no one will be able to go undefeated. And Smith can say he's the rushing king for backs who played 16 games.
I'm a huge NFL fan and am excited about this. I guess you could say this will water down the product, like the long MLB and NBA season does. But when the NFL season is over, I'm usually pretty depressed."

The fourth preseason week can be a bye week. They can extend the season by a week that way. We'd be going into the second week of February... at least delaying the most depressing thing if your a football fan by one week... the end of the NFL season. Two games isn't enough for teams that really need that game to evalutate their players. But if you scrap the games a week before the season your starters can still play that third game with ample rest before the season starts.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Pacman Jones' leash is so short that one more violation of the league's conduct policy could get him banned for life.
Roger Goodell isn't messing around. Jones has been on his best behavior in Dallas, but this news will likely keep him from hitting the jackpot on a long-term contract any time soon.

The writing was on the wall for Rudi when he hurt the same hamstring in camp that washed out his '07 season and took way too long to recover. As a vested vet, Johnson may have to wait until after Week 1 to catch on elsewhere so his next team doesn't have to guarantee his salary. The Saints could give him a look.

It's something. And it's better than getting absolutely nothing for holding on to him for this long, when you clearly knew you weren't going to keep him. There was interest during the draft, and a few teams inquired about him for a mid-to-late pick.
This just looks really silly on management's part. They could've dumped this guy for a draft pick months ago instead of wasting a roster spot and selfishly dangling his career for the past year.

SAINTS TO BE HOMELESS AGAIN IN 2008?
Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2008, 11:32 p.m. EDT
With a storm named Gustav gaining strength as it embarks on a trip across the Gulf of Mexico and, possibly, an unscheduled visit to Bourbon Street, there’s talk about whether the Saints will be able to host the Buccaneers on September 7 at the Superdome.
Our pal Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio tells us of scuttlebutt that the game could be moved to Tampa, with the Saints hosting the rematch on November 30.
Whether the Saints would be hosting that game in New Orleans or Baton Rouge or San Antonio or somewhere else remains to be seen.
It’s not too early to begin pondering the possibilities, in the event that New Orleans takes its second direct hit in three years from a major hurricane. Apart from whether the City would be able to play host to pro football a week from tomorrow, the broader question is whether, in the aftermath of Gustav, any football can be played there in 2008.
The Bucs could object to a flip-flop of the home-and-home series, given that a switcheroo would give them four straight road games in late November and early December. Still, we doubt that anyone will shed tears for Tampa’s tribulations in this regard, given that they’ll at least still have a town in which to play their home games and a building in which to do it. The Saints are facing their second 16-game all-road schedule in four seasons.
It’s also not too early to begin pondering whether another nightmare in New Orleans will be enough to prompt the NFL to pull up the stakes and move the franchise to another town.
After Katrina, such a possibility was rejected as heartless; after Gustav, it might be the only prudent option.

This one guy needs a QB, so I am trying to snag RBs off him at the moment. He rejected my first offer (tried to net Gore and Grant off him). My RBs are not good, but I am pleased otherwise, and my league's scoring system has the QBs scoring the most points on an average week.

Ok well I know we've known for a while now that there would be no "force-outs" this year but that rule just cost the Packers their last pre-season game so all of the sudden I feel like talking about it. It's probably already been discussed here but what do you guys think about it? Personally I don't like the rule because it allows the defense to get beat on a play and still be able to force an incompletion.
Plus now the referees will just have a new problem to deal with which will be cover linebackers catching wide receivers in mid-air and carrying them 4 or 5 yards out of bounds. And according to my limited understanding of the rules is perfectly legal because the forward progress rule doesn't apply until the player has possession and the receiver doesn't have possession until his feet touch the ground. Hell, the defender might as well just carry the receiver back to the endzone then put him down and tackle him for a safety.
Ok I know that's a little ridiculous but seriously, I don't like the rule change. And if someone knows the rule that prevents defenders from catching a receiver in the air and carrying them out of bounds please tell me because I'm sure there must be something to prevent that, otherwise Brian Urlacher is going to be an (even more) unholy terror this season.
Edit: And if there is a rule against a defender carrying a player out of bounds, how would it work? Isn't it just as much a judgment call to say a defender was trying to carry a receiver out of bounds as it is to say that a receiver would've been able to get both feet in bounds had he not been forced out? That wouldn't be really fixing the problem, just replacing one problem with another.

I am very happy with my RBs and WRs. My only real weakness is TE. I have a feeling Warner will be great this year, but you can always find a QB. I took a couple of flyers with my backup QBs, but if worst comes worst, I can trade a WR or RB for a QB, but it's really hard to make that trade the other way around.

REPORT: SIMMS VISITING THE RAVENS
The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network reports that former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms is in Baltimore to visit with the Ravens.
According to Roch “The Casbah” Kubatko (we have no idea whether that’s his nickname, but it should be) of MASN, Simms arrived at the airport and was waiting for a member of the organization to pick him up.
The Ravens currently have three quarterbacks on the roster — Joe Flacco, Troy Smith, and Kyle Boller. But Boller could land on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury.
Whyyyyyy :( I dont want Simms.
Although the Boys will only have 2 receivers for the season opener, T.O. and Crayton should have field days against Cleveland's defense. I know pre-season doesn't mean anything, but the Browns' starting cornerbacks got lit up by 3rd string receivers all 4 games.

Ravens signed QB Joey Harrington, formerly of the Falcons.
Harrington was better than Chris Simms in Monday's workout, so he got the nod. Simms should start exploring options in Dallas and Chicago. Harrington has little time to get ready for the opener and probably isn't a candidate to start against Cincinnati, but was needed with Troy Smith and Kyle Boller out indefinitely. Look for Boller (shoulder) now to go on injured reserve.

We never tire of making fun (http://www.deadspin.com/sports/college-football/how-freddie-spent-his-weekend-210282.php?mail2=true) of the various post-"retirement" exploits (http://www.deadspin.com/sports/nfl/freddie-mitchell-talks-his-way-to-the-arena-league-149727.php) of former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, but a reader from Indiana tops them all with a story (and picture) he sent in over the weekend. Here's the tale:
I was at home this past weekend in Mishawaka, IN, and my brother told me that over the summer Freddie Mitchell was a substitute teacher at Mishawaka High School. Supposedly the woman who was his kid's mother lives in town, and he needed some extra money. He lasted all of one week, due to the fact that he was caught asking girls for their phone numbers. My brother thinks he's still in northern Indiana somewhere, presumably subbing somewhere else.
I've attached a picture from the halls of MHS. I guess he wore his NFC Championship ring around as well.
Freddie Mitchell, instructing the youth of Northern Indiana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mishawaka,_Indiana). We think that would have been entertaining to witness.

Lions signed RB Rudi Johnson, formerly of the Bengals.
If Rudi is to rejuvenate his career ala Jamal Lewis, this was the best place to do it. His addition may spell the end of Tatum Bell, who will be third string at best. Johnson probably won't be up to speed in the offense to carry it more than five times in Week 1, but will eventually be a big threat to Kevin Smith if Rudi stays healthy. He can be grabbed in all leagues.

Lions released RB Tatum Bell.
It's surprising he lasted this long. Perhaps the Texans will give Bell a look in free agency, but don't bet on him ever having a large role again. There were rumblings that Bell lost his passion for the game in Detroit and he's so one-dimensional that his impact on any team will be minimal.

Despite a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that free-agent quarterback Joey Harrington has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens, a league source tells us that Harrington has not yet signed — and might not.
Per the source, Harrington has another visit lined up for Tuesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier was shot and critically wounded outside an apartment building early Tuesday as he and a former Jacksonville teammate waited for two women they had met at a nightclub, authorities said.
Collier, 26, and former Jaguars defensive end Kenneth Pettway were waiting in a Cadillac Escalade when a gunman fired into the vehicle, said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson. Collier was shot several times, but it wasn't clear where he was hit.
Collier is in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, hospital spokesman Chris Turner said. The motive behind the attack was unknown, and the sheriff's office was investigating. Pettway, who was released in final cuts Saturday, was not injured.
Richard Graham, the chief of detectives for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, told ESPN First Take the Jaguars had informed his department that Collier had come out of surgery Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. in a middle- to upper middle-class neighborhood just west of downtown Jacksonville and blocks from the St. Johns River. The players had gone to the apartment complex so the women could drop off their car, authorities said.
