No more fantasy here guys... take it to the appropriate thread...
Lemme get my picks in here... I went 2-2 last week. I switched my pick on the Bills because I needed an upset pick, so I got burned there. Maybe I'll do better this week.
Minnesota 34 Indy 17... I don't like the Colts offense in this spot. Defense won't contain Peterson either.
New York Jets 20 New England 17... Pats need this more than the Jets, but this is just too tough a spot for Cassel.
Dallas 34 Eagles 31... A wild, wild old western Monday night shootout.
Upset: Detroit 31 Green Bay 24... Aaron Rogers lays an egg on the road.

Report: Ike postpones Texans-Ravens game
Damage to Reliant Stadium too severe for rescheduled game to be played
NBCSports.com news services
updated 1:59 p.m. ET, Sat., Sept. 13, 2008
Hurricane Ike caused damage to Reliant Stadium, causing the Houston Texans to postpone their home opener scheduled for Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The storm tore chunks off the stadium’s retractable roof and the damage can’t be fixed in time to host the game, said Shea Guinn, the president and general manager of Reliant Park.
"The facility will not be usable," Guinn said. "There's some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off.
"There's also some other damage on the property caused by wind and water. We're in the process of assessing the damage. As far as the game being postponed again or played, that will be up to the NFL."
An official announcement was expected later Saturday, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.
“It certainly appears that the stadium is not going to be able to be used on Monday night,” Aiello said.
The game, originally scheduled for Sunday, was moved to Monday earlier in the week as Ike approached the area.
The field is not scheduled to host another game until Oct. 5. If the game is postponed, it is unclear when it could be made up. The Texans’ off week is Oct. 26, while Baltimore’s is Nov. 6.
Three years ago, when the New Orleans Saints were displaced because of Hurricane Katrina, they played four of their scheduled home games at LSU’s Tiger Stadium, three in San Antonio and one in East Rutherford, N.J., against the New York Giants.
Actually, there is quite an easy solution.... Houston has a bye week 8. Baltimore has a bye week 10. Houston plays Cincinnati week 10. They can move that game to week 8 since the Bengals also have a bye on week 8. And then they can play the Houston Baltimore game week 10... expect this to happen.

Im sorry but Goddell really dropped the ball this time, he knew that there was no ways that reliant stadium was going to handle the storm , he could have easily in the begining said that they should move it to a nuteral ground or do exactly what the Saints did and made them play their home game at the opositions field ( saints played their home game agaisnt the giants at giants stadium )

You move it onto a college field if the stadium is not ready... that's not a problem. They didn't have time to make the proper accomodations. The game can be easily re-scheduled as stated above... the only downside is that both teams have their byes week 2. Tough luck.

I believe that the Texans would have to sign off on that though - its it is very possible that Houston wouldn't want to sign away a home game.

It's not like they can play the game in Houston any time soon. After Ike gets out of Houston, getting a football stadium back to game ready status isn't high on the list of priorities after getting hit with a hurricane
FaT_tONle

Houston can't object to moving it into a neutral field though. They will have to play in San Antonio or something. They can play at the Cotton Bowl. There are plenty of venues down there.
vindrow
09-13-2008, 01:27 PM
They will probably play at a neutral site there in Texas someplace..I don't see them playing the game in week 10 since the Ravens would then lose their bye week, and they're not going to agree to that.
Goodell should have had a plan in place for this, his run a commissioner has not been very stellar the past couple of years.

9/11 they took out the week before the Superbowl an extended the season to 18 weeks. But that included all 32 teams. If the teams don't want to lose that bye then there is no other solution. If they don't end up making it up this week you can't play three games in the same week (Sun Thurs Sun) down the road. That's murder. Expect the game to be cancelled or both teams take a tie... because I think Godell is banking on neither of these teams in the mix for the playoffs. But if the Texans go 9-6-1, they can't get in over a 9-7 football team. THe game HAS to be made up.

If the Ravens don't want to give up their bye though?
Here is my final last resort solution as crazy as this is. If Balt/Hou has playoff implications... put it in the Saturday or Sunday slot on Wild Card weekend. Play the NFC games as scheduled. And push back the AFC playoffs by one week. Crazy thinking and it's highly unlikely that both these teams will be in the playoff mix... but that's another solution.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans' home game against the Baltimore Ravens, previously scheduled for Monday night, has been postponed until Nov. 9 because of hurricane-related damage to Reliant Stadium, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Hurricane Ike, which made landfall early Saturday at Galveston as a severe Category 2 storm, also caused extensive damage throughout Houston, including the retractable roof at Reliant Stadium.
The Nov. 9 game will be held during the Ravens' bye week. According to league sources, the Texans' home game against the Cincinnati Bengals, originally scheduled for Nov. 9, will be moved to Oct. 26, which was the bye week for both of those teams.
The storm tore chunks off the stadium's retractable roof and the damage can't be fixed in time to host the game, said Shea Guinn, president and general manager of Reliant Park.
"There is no way this stadium will host a game on Monday night," Guinn said Saturday. "There are parts of the roof that are completely gone."
The retractable roof on the $352 million venue rolls open in nine sections. Guinn said five of the sections were missing and large pieces of debris had fallen into the stadium.
"It's hard to tell what came from where," Guinn said.
The game, originally scheduled for Sunday, was moved to Monday earlier in the week as Ike approached the area.
The field is not scheduled to host another game until Oct. 5, but Guinn said he wasn't sure when repairs could be completed. He said the stadium also sustained some water damage at street level.
Reliant Stadium sits next to the Astrodome. Guinn said Saturday that he had not yet inspected the dome for storm damage. The Texans' air-supported practice "bubble" across the street was deflated on Thursday and was not damaged, Guinn said.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, the supervisor of the county's hurricane cleanup efforts, planned to visit Reliant Stadium and survey the damage later Saturday.
Just as predicted. Not that it was rocket science.

Yep. And Davis has said that he won't retire or let go of the team until he wins another Super Bowl. Yet he won't give any coach a chance to run the team the way they like or even recruit, and gives them absolutely zero time to build the team up so they could be a contender. Programs take time to come together; something Al Davis doesn't have since he's so damn old.

Sproles is amazing. Always has been in fact. People always say he's too small but I say that's a load of BS. The man can bench 400+ pounds and is built like a tank. He delivered a huge block for Cutler earlier today on one of his TD passes. He's too explosive of a player for people to write him off due to his height. Someone is going to sign him and let him be a starter, and San Diego's going to regret it.
Meanwhile, the Chargers got screwed BIG TIME by Ed Hochuli. That was one of the worst calls in NFL history.

I know. He can still be "unleashed", I just dont kow if he ever will. The caoches dont give him enough carries; Maroney is such a "in-the-zone" running back that to find success he HAS to get the ball.
That is what Thomas should have been doing last year, glad he is showing some of that now.
Last they he played outside linebacker unless to Colvin went down. Now Mayo (whose looking GREAT) is in the role he had last year and Thomas is playing outside more.
That was horribly under thrown, he needed to go up top with that. A win is a win.
Cassel was far from perfect; his idiotic use of timeouts was frusterating. That pass however was inescusable; it was play action with Moss on a post and Cassel looked short first. Moss had 10 yards on his man, Cassel shoulda fired a hard liner and lead him right into the endzone immeadietly, instead he looks short and then throws a lollipop that makes moss stop hard.
It isn't the line, it's Maroney and his injury bugs. The guy can't stay on the damn field.

I just think that is always going to be the situation for Maroney, at least with the Pats. He is just to injury prone, so they'll be protecting him from injuries or giving him rest to recoup from them.
Last they he played outside linebacker unless to Colvin went down. Now Mayo (whose looking GREAT) is in the role he had last year and Thomas is playing outside more.
The defense still has that tendency to let up a big play or two, but has looked pretty solid so far.
Cassel isn't Brady, that is for sure. Maybe a little more like 2001 Brady, but this team looks like they are now running the 2001 offense, so maybe it will work. 2 games are way to early to judge it either way. This offense has a long way to go, a lot of confusion between Cassel and the receivers and Cassel and the running backs.

Wow the Chargers got ripped off there at the end of that game. Still, I like coach Shannahan's decision to go for two, it was a classy move. If they took the extra point and tied then they would have benefited directly from the bad call, but by going for two he effectively made the entire rest of the game irrelevant (which included some other suspicious calls and defunct replay equipment), pinning the outcome of the game on one single play and giving the chargers a chance to win in regulation. Coaches should always go for two in this situation in my opinion, I think if you can end the game without going into overtime you should, I think that's the spirit of the game. How? I am NOT saying we will win the super bowl, bout our team is infinetly times better than that 2001 team. 2001 Brady does not **** on 2008 Cassel. These are Bradys numbers:

Not just that, but the Pats are better now at just about every position then their 2001 counterparts.

Well it depends (though yes, hes is obviously a huge downgrade, and it showed on that long pass to Moss that shoulda been a TD as Moss had the guy BURNED but Cassel underthrew it and threw it way too late.) If they try to play the same style they played last season, they will not be good. But, if they try to play classic Belichick football, which is control the clock, the tempo, and the game while trying to expose the opposing offenses biggest weakness, they have a shot to really compete. Itll take a few weeks, but hopefuly this season they can peak in December and January instead of peaking in September like last year.
Our d was outstanding. Adalius Thomas, Richard Seymour, Jerod Mayo, and even ELLIS HOBBS :wow: are playing like pro bowlers. That goalline stand was awesome. Brandon "Bware" of the "hit stick" Meriweather had a pick that was a gorgeous read on a one of Favres pass. Thomas's sack was against a scramling Favre AND Leon Washington; he just overpowered em both and made Brett wish he stayed retired. Our only weakness today was our run blocking was atrocious, but against arguably the games best defensive tackle in Kris Jenkins, that shouldnt be a surprise.

Man, Jets really suck today, and I had high hopes for them this year. If they can't even beat a Brady-less Pats team, how were they supposed to have a chance if Brady didn't go down for the season? And Jets now is powered by Favre, instead of Pennington or Clemens, which would've made the score even more lopsided.
Now I'm beginning to think that if Jets can't even make the playoff this year, then Mangini should be fired, no questions asked; he has 3 years to make this a respective team, and this year should be make-or-break for him.

The Panthers use the method " control the clock". Look at all of their games over the years. Most of them are very close. The two games they've played this season came down to the final minutes. If the Pats use this method then they're going to lose games and undoubtedly will be vulnerable. The Patriots will be competitive down the stretch (with an easy ass schedule), but as soon as they get in the playoffs, everybody will be testing Cassel's ability to move around in pressure situations.(in which that will probably cause him to throw a crucial INT) Cassel is stepping into BIG shoes. Untill he can win an important game, the Patriots won't go far in the postseason.

I don't forsee my Browns netting a playoff spot. Yesterday, they showed me they lack the attitude of a winning team. They just didn't seem to want to win that game last night, and they were okay with keeping it close.
Even if they beat the Ravens and Bengals the next two weeks, they'll have to eventually beat a team whom is actually good (and the 5th game is against the Giants no less).
Shame too. The Browns have talent. I am not a fire anyone after two weeks kind of guy, but perhaps the Browns should keep the possibility of firing Romeo in the back of their minds and revisit the issue when the season ends (since I acknowledge anything can happen at this point).

Well 6 points down with 5 minutes left pretty much means the game is over for the Jets. So why not leave an beat the traffic? That's how they roll.

Yeah, I'm a Steelers fan myself (so I'm happy about last night) but I feel for you guys because Romeo is an idiot. I couldn't believe they took the field goal on that 4th down when there was about 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. He should have just let them go for it. When they did that, I knew the game was over. Back when Cowher was Pittsburgh's coach he did something similar to that in a playoff game and I went ballistic.

I don't follow the Browns but you have a couple of decent players. If Braylon could learn to stop dropping balls he would be a brilliant receiver, he's got the moves and speed. I also feel Jamal Lewis has got a bit left in the tank.

I think after the high expectation bestowed on Jets to beat a Brady-less Pats, and the fans saw that they had regressed back to SOJ, those fans were deflated and that's why they left the game early. I think the team already gave up the game before the fans started leaving the stadium en masse.

I see the Browns as a team that is very similar to the Cincinatti Bengals of 2005. Last year they had their first good season in God knows how long, and everyone got really excited about it, and created a bunch of Hype, which even the team got sucked into. Therefore they ignored a bunch of fundamental problems with their team and now they suck again and everyone is baffled as to why. Still, they have a couple easy games coming up...so they should be .500 by their bye week...at which point everyone will build them up again, then act shocked when they get their asses handed to them by the Giants.

Romeo did screw up last night with that FG, and completely butchering his timeouts. You don't call timeout until 3rd and long cause they can still chuck the ball for massive yards. I knew that was going to happen, too.
But more than the bad coaching moves last night, I just didn't see them play with the fire it takes to finally beat a team whose owned us 9 (now 10) straight times. No fire in playing a team in your house, after you were embarrassed, that is pretty much your only competition for the division. I just didn't see it. I take this as Romeo is not motivating the team. We have talent, but he's not getting that fire out of our talent.
If Romeo can't ignite that fire by the end of the season, we'll have to get someone else who will.
Rome Crennel screwed the Browns last night. FG with 3 minutes left in the 4th? No thanks.....
Agreed, that was dumb. But, we should have been driving down in a 10-6 game at that point, not 10-3 (thanks to DA's dumb half ending pick). Also, I don't feel that was the primary reason we lost. See my comments about their seeming lack of motivation.
I don't follow the Browns but you have a couple of decent players. If Braylon could learn to stop dropping balls he would be a brilliant receiver, he's got the moves and speed. I also feel Jamal Lewis has got a bit left in the tank.
We definately have talent. The secondary could be better, and their WRs are banged up, but they have talent. But, that is only half the equation. Good teams have talent and heart. We lack THE HEART OSBORN!!!

I expected a possible 0-2 start and any playoff hopes rested on winning the division (and our chances were borderline....I've been saying this for a while). Yesterday just got to me cause I feel I learned a lot about the soul of the team, or better yet their lack of a soul. I love my Browns, but until this team gets someone to ignite the sparks, then we'll never be a team worth anything, we'll lose 20 straight to the Steelers, and they'll never have the swagger that the great teams from the past had.
I expect them to be 2-2 heading into the bye, but beating teams you should beat isn't the problem. Until they beat a QUALITY team, we'll continue to be nothing but mediocre at best.

Before the season, I thought Jets would be a lock for playoffs, but now I'm not too sure due to the fact that Pats seemed to right the ship after Brady's out and Cassel in as the starter, and Bills are playing good football right now. It's still early, but this was a huge game and Jets blew it completely.

It was summed best on the Browns post-game radio show, when a caller said when the team left after 95, their swagger left with them, and we may never get it back. I think their is a lot of truth to this.
