They had to...there Defense is terrible today and LJ is killing the clock.
Their defense is consistently terrible. :hehe:
Beyond that, I wouldn't put it past Herm to take away any creativity with the run offense and just run Larry into the line 3 times. They had 2 timeouts left. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I would have kicked off.

I'd like to personally thank the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Falcons for proving me right today.
Denver will go nowhere playing defense the way they do. And to give up 33 points to the Chiefs? Ridiculous.
And Atlanta losing 24-9, the same exact score as the last game in which they played a real team.

Report: 'Boldin has full use of extremities'
Boldin
Pro Football Talk reports that Anquan Boldin "did not suffer a neck injury" and "has full use of his extremities" after leaving Sunday's game on a stretcher.
PFT notes that Boldin "apparently was only knocked out," which would qualify as excellent news given how ugly the injury looked. He hauled in 10 catches for 119 yards and one touchdown before being strapped down and carted off the field following a helmet-to-helmet hit in garbage time. Sep. 28 - 5:08 pm et

Yeah, statistically. But there's holes in this defense and they can be easily exploited. Dallas exploited it and the Bears are doing it to an extent. The Eagles can't cover a tight end for the life of them and their eagerness to blitz is a good/bad thing for them. When they don't execute, which does happen a good amount, they get torn up.

Re: McNabb: he is a gifted player physical, Andy Reid knows it thats why hes stuck with him. Reid loves him, but evidently not enough to ever get him a real wr outside of T.O.. He now has oen in DeSean, who is a truly special player whether folks realize it or not, people with his illusiveness are incredibly rare, and McNabb knows it which is why he throws the ball his direction all the time; its why even as a rookie he became their #1 in the preseason.
If Reid wont call it, McNabb will have change the play at the lie to attack downfield; the Eagles are deadly there.

I was nowhere near a tv or computer with the Fins having their bye week, so it was pretty surprising to see a few things:
-The Chiefs beating the Broncos. I was pretty certain KC would be winless pretty late into the season. They have a pretty tough schedule.
-The filthy Jets putting up 56 against the Cards. Now, in typical NYJ fan fashion, they go from having a finger on the panic button to making preparations for a trip to Tampa in Feb. Bleh.
Also fun to see new blood like the Titans and the Bills at the top of the AFC. Countdown is on for Fins/Chargers next Sunday, which I shall be attending. ;)

The Rams will be contacting these guys as soon as the season ends:
- Bill Cowher
- Brian Billick
- Jim Fassell
- Marty Schottenheimer
- Dick Vermiel
- Steve Mariucci
And they will probably look at College Coaches such as:
- Pete Carroll, USC
- Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
- Charlie Weiss, Notre Dame
They have to adhere to the Rooney Rule, so they will probably interview Assistant Coach Henry Ellard and maybe give a courtesy call to Denny Green. They will probably look at Jason Garrett and Josh McDaniels as well.
BlackLantern
09-29-2008, 01:19 PM

You can cross Cowher off the list. There's no doubt any team with a coaching vacancy is going to have him at the top of their list, but he has a comfy brodcasting gig. He's not going to drop it for a job with one of the league's bottom feeders, whichever team that may be.

What a bum:
Plaxico Burress fined a 'stunning number' of times in New York
By Chris Chase
Recently-suspended Giants WR Plaxico Burress has been fined a stunning 40-50 times during his four seasons in New York, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. The fines have been levied for various offenses, mainly related to Burress' tardiness for meetings and treatments. Considering that Burress has played in 50 games for the Giants, the total number of violations is mind-boggling. (It should be said that Tom Coughlin is a task-master who fines players for being early to meetings (his meetings begin five minutes early), so getting a few fines probably isn't out of the ordinary for some players. But 50? That's habitual.)
Glazer's sources also tell him that Burress is often insubordinate towards Coughlin, frequently "tuning him out" during conversations and ignoring direct orders. This news isn't altogether surprising; Plaxico has long been known for his diva-like attitude, something that gets glossed over because of the successes his teams have had.
Burress has accepted the fines without incident, writes Glazer, but was taken aback by the suspension because "he just wants to play football." What Plax doesn't seem to understand is that playing football is a full-time job that includes going to meetings, getting treatment for injuries and listening to coaches. His new $35 million contract doesn't just pay him for Sundays, but for the other six days of the week as well.
This is a major problem for the Giants. It's one thing to give star treatment to your biggest offensive weapon, but allowing him to create his own rules in a locker room that won a Super Bowl thanks, in part, to the disciplined approach of Tom Coughlin is a powder keg of resentment waiting to explode. It seems like the Giants tried to handle this in-house for the past few years, but when Burress didn't show up for a meeting on Monday, they were forced to act.
Now that the team has drawn its line in the sand, what happens the next time Burress shows up late or turns his back to Coughlin? The toughest kind of person to control is the one who doesn't care.

I have to say for me it was different times. I've been a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers for 30 years now, so I love the seventies legacy, but was still pretty young to appreciate it. I think every year gets more and more exciting for me. But in the 90's I went through a lull and wasn't watching much football. I guess I became a big fan of the NFL in 2001. I was bored with football and wanted something more. The XFL for as crappy as it was actually got me back into watching football again. And now I don't miss a Steelers game!

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Lane Kiffin was fired Tuesday over the phone, and do not intend to honor his contract.
The Raiders may use "insubordination" as the excuse -- they pulled the same stunt with Mike Shanahan almost two decades ago. The in-house favorite to replace Kiffin is noted offensive line coach Tom Cable. Kiffin, still owed $3 million, went 5-15 with the Raiders, but had them playing hard in two close losses to the Bills and Chargers. This can't be a good thing for their offense.
The Raiders are jokes...he won't be out of a job long. I read Syracuse is likely.

The Cowboys know they have an excellent weapon in Terrell Owens. Against the Redskins, the Cowboys may have tried to force it to T.O. way too much. Owens had seven catches for 71 yards and bulled his way into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter. But Shawn Springs smothered Owens in the first half, and Carlos Rogers took over in the second when Springs suffered a calf injury.
The Cowboys ran 58 offensive plays. They threw it to him 18 times and let Owens run it twice on two end-arounds. Yet when asked if the ball was thrown his way often enough, Owens said: "I would say no. I'm a competitor, and I want the ball.
"There were some opportunities there, and there were some opportunities there where they were holding and the refs just didn't call it. You can't blame the refs; we just didn't make the plays.
"Everybody recognized that I wasn't really getting the ball in the first half," Owens said. "I'm pretty sure everybody watching the game recognized it, people in the stands recognized it, I think my team recognized it. I didn't quit. I kept fighting and trying to running my routes and trying to get open."

Terrell Owens-WR- Cowboys Sep. 30 - 10:18 am et
Terrell Owens had what several sources deemed a "serious conversation" with Tony Romo about his role in the Dallas offense.
According to sources, the types of routes and throws he is seeing are what concerns Owens, who did not talk to reporters no Monday. Owens has never had a QB with whom he didn't eventually have a falling out, so keep an eye on this situation if TO's stats continue to lag behind his expectations.

Power Rankings:
2008 Power Rankings: Week 5
RK (LW) TEAM REC COMMENT
1 (2) Giants 3-0-0 Took the NFC East lead without getting off the couch. With the Seahawks coming in, Giants are staring at 4-0. (MM)
2 (4) Titans 4-0-0 Hard to find fault with the franchise's first 4-0 start. But you have to take note that the teams they've beaten are 3-12 combined. The Titans are the only team that has played three home games. (PK)
3 (1) Cowboys 3-1-0 We'll see if the loss to the Redskins is a wake-up call. The good news is Cincinnati, Arizona and St. Louis are next. (MM)
4 (6) Bills 4-0-0 The Bills have overcome three straight fourth-quarter deficits to remain undefeated. Their opponents have a combined record of 4-11, but the Bills have been sensational when it matters most. (TG)
5 (5) Steelers 3-1-0 The Steelers got back on track with a big win against Baltimore to solidify their spot as one of the AFC's best. (JW)
6 (15) Redskins 3-1-0 Beating the Cowboys on their home turf has to count for something. Big game with Philly looms. (MM)
7 (10) Panthers 3-1-0 Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad give Panthers best receiver duo since Muhammad's departure three years ago. (PY)
8 (9) Chargers 2-2-0 The Chargers' win over Oakland wasn't pretty, but 25 points in the fourth quarter is a nice indication of what this team can do. (BW)
9 (3) Eagles 2-2-0 Deserve a little grace for playing without Brian Westbrook, L.J. Smith and Shawn Andrews. Can't afford to lose at home to the Redskins. (MM)
10 (13) Buccaneers 3-1-0 Brian Griese 3-0 since taking over as starter. (PY)
11 (7) Broncos 3-1-0 The Broncos will continue to slide down the rankings if their defense can't improve. Too much pressure is being put on the Denver offense. (BW)
12 (14) Jaguars 2-2-0 Two consecutive late-game rallies, spurred by a precise David Garrard. They've officially survived the 0-2 start and losses to Tennessee and Buffalo don't look so bad. (PK)
13 (11) Patriots 2-1-0 Eviscerating loss to Dolphins in Week 3 gave Patriots plenty to work on in their bye week. If they can't beat the 49ers on Sunday, prepare for panic to set in. (TG)
14 (17) Ravens 2-1-0 There's nothing wrong with a 2-1 start. But the Ravens missed out on a chance to make a huge statement in Monday's road loss to Pittsburgh. (JW)
15 (8) Packers 2-2-0 The Packers might have to start their backup quarterback for the first time in 16 years if Aaron Rodgers can't recover from a sprained shoulder. (KS)
16 (16) Saints 2-2-0 Deuce McAllister is back to bring much-needed balance to the offense. (PY)
17 (12) Colts 1-2-0 The Colts enjoyed a week off to help refocus and heal. But the best medicine could be the Texans, who've only beaten Indy once. (PK)
18 (20) Bears 2-2-0 The Bears hope they turned the corner in defeating Philadelphia. One thing is for certain: They showed important versatility on offense. (KS)
19 (21) Jets 2-2-0 Brett Favre's six-touchdown day breathes new life into the Jets heading into their bye week. But defense ranks 28th on points allowed and 24th in yards allowed. (TG)
20 (18) Cardinals 2-2-0 Pass protection must improve or Kurt Warner won't last. Cards face must-win vs. Buffalo. (MS)
21 (19) Vikings 1-3-0 It doesn't get any easier this week at New Orleans on Monday Night Football. (KS)
22 (22) 49ers 2-2-0 J.T. O'Sullivan has taken 19 sacks in four games. Tough week for Niners with Pats coming off bye. (MS)
23 (23) Seahawks 1-2-0 Bye week allowed Seahawks to get healthier at receiver. Defense must step up. (MS)
24 (24) Falcons 2-2-0 Falcons beating bad teams and losing to good ones. Must keep Michael Turner running against the good ones. (PY)
25 (26) Browns 1-3-0 The Battle of Ohio wasn't pretty. But the Browns finally got a win and have the bye week to try to get better. (JW)
26 (25) Dolphins 1-2-0 Dolphins shocked the NFL with a crazy romp over the Patriots in Week 3. If the Dolphins can follow up with a win at home over the Chargers, they would rekindle long-lost hopes in South Florida. (TG)
27 (27) Texans 0-3-0 Remaining upbeat despite losing a game they should have won. Ready for a full month at home in Reliant Stadium with the roof open. (PK)
28 (29) Raiders 1-3-0 The Raiders may be a mess, but this team is playing hard. Good things will start to happen if that trend continues. (BW)
29 (31) Chiefs 1-3-0 The Chiefs deserve a lot of credit for their big win over Denver. Many pundits thought they'd go 0-16. That is no longer a worry. (BW)
30 (28) Bengals 0-4-0 This team wasn't good with Carson Palmer. Without him, it might be the worst team in the league. (JW)
31 (30) Lions 0-3-0 Matt Millen's departure doesn't make them any better. At least not this year. (KS)
32 (32) Rams 0-4-0 Rams would be wise to give Marc Bulger another shot. Trent Green's not the long-term answer. (MS)

BENSON TO THE BENGALS (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/30/benson-to-the-bengals/)
Posted by Mike Florio on September 30, 2008, 4:12 p.m.
At a time when the Cincinnati Bengals seemed to be the favorite to land 2005 NFL (http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/#) MVP Shaun Alexander, a native of nearby Florence, Kentucky, the Bengals threw the league a curveball on Tuesday, signing tailback Cedric Benson.
The team has announced via a press release the addition of Benson. He’ll replace DeDe Dorsey, who has been placed on injured reserve.
Benson was the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft. The Bears dumped him after a lackluster 2007 season as the clear-cut starter — and after two alcohol-related arrests in less than a month. Though a grand jury opted last week not to indict Benson on any of the pending charges, the decision of the Bengals (http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/#) to add a player with a troubled past will only reinforce the team’s standing as a franchise that simply doesn’t care about the perception that more than a few of its players are turds.
Hey, but at least those talented-but-flawed players are helping the Bengals win lots of football games.

God bless the Bengals, :funny:

Lane Kiffen deserves the money he is owed in the contract, and if Al Davis doesn't give it to him I hope he'll sue Davis' cranky old ass off, and maybe Davis will get a heart attack for having to pay all those money in addition to attorney fee.

Ugh. Why does every single media outlet make something out EVERYTHING that Owens has to say. He's seriously becoming the Britney Spears of the NFL. No matter what he does makes the headlines somewhere, it's ridiculous. Yes, he has a history of fallouts with quarterbacks/organizations, but he's been nothing but a model citizen in Dallas.
All he said was they need to throw him the ball. What receiver hasn't said that at one point or another?
Didn't TO get 12 passes from Romo in that 'Skins game? I think TO also dropped a crucial pass that could've been a TD. TO just need to shut up and play.
Mister J

He got thrown to 17 times and had 2 carries on end-arounds. Him saying he didn't get the ball enough is just dumb. All receivers want the ball, but the context in which he made the statement makes no sense; it's like he thinks he only got a couple of looks.
The real problem with Dallas' statsheet for that game is that Barber only had 8 carries.

If Cowboys want to win more games, then they establish their running games despite TO's whine for more passes in his way. Cowboys have a good OL and two outstanding backs, Marion Barber and Felix Jones. If these two were involved more I think 'Boys would've beaten 'Skins in that game.

it's alot more than the media going after T.O He's also a B**** he told the media. Jeff garcia was gay. when the guy had two playmate models fighting over him. He stirred up crap with D Mac in philly. i am not a cowboys fan but i am Glad Emmett smith clocked his ass when he ran in the middle of their star twice during that game.Where he got suspended by Steve Maruchi. To say that T.O dont bring this stuff on himself is wrong.he's a hell of a football player but he needs to take a clue from Barry Sanders and like someone just said shut the **** up and just play, but i think its cool now cause i want him stirring stuff up in Dallas, and not all WR are divas.my boy Jerry Rice never complained about not getting the ball. He was one classy guy.

Quick, turn on ESPN! It's a talking corpse!
Anyway, back to TO...yes, they gave him plenty of looks against the 'Skins, but they were mostly short plays (an average of 10 yds. I think it was) I think he specifically means he wants more of the deep ball, big plays, whatever you want to call it. If that were the case, the Cowboys might have won the game and all would have been fine and dandy - as it was a few games ago when TO caught only a few balls (2?) and said after the game that he didn't care because Dallas won.

Raiders Offense-TM-Raiders Sep. 30 - 5:54 pm et
Raiders owner Al Davis accused recently fired coach Lane Kiffin of lying and propaganda that had been going on for months.
In a lively and at times bizarre press conference, Davis added that Lane wanted to hire his father Monte as defensive coordinator, and that Monte was on board with the plan. According to Davis, Kiffin asked to be let go for a possible college job and Bobby Petrino left the Falcons so suddenly in order to beat Kiffin to Arkansas. Other highlights: Davis blamed Kiffin for trading Randy Moss and referred to ESPN's Chris Mortensen as a "professional liar."

Definitely. Interestingly enough, Chris Mortensen reported that Davis had previously fired a young Mike Shanahan and didn't pay him the remainder of his contract. That was before the coaches association though. A raw deal for Kiffen indeed.

It's no wonder that Shanahan still hates Al Davis years after he left Raiders, and relish in beating the hapless Raiders up whenever his Broncos play them.
