Okay so the biggest weekend of the year... before I go do my midnight prayers for the teams I need to win tommorow... but I'll throw some picks out there first:

Minnesota 27 NYG 24... Game gets away late from the G-Men.

NYJ 24 Miami 22... Hey... J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets.... I think Gang Green still has some gas in the tank. Can't go wrong with the Jets over the Dolphins... make Chad take that early vacation as well.

Dallas 27 Philli 10... Ugly game that gets out of hand late. Mcnabb is shot... I'll be suprised if the Trashgles are competitive throughout.

San Diego 37 Denver 23... Usually when things point to one team like this... it's a good bet going the other way (and going with Denver in this case). But not even the Chargers can blow an opportunity like this.

Upset: Bills 19 Pats 16... So much for getting help... Belicheck can talk all he wants about taking care of your own business... unfortunately he'll be thinking about how Mangini will take care of the Phins later in the afternoon... he got exposed in the Superbowl... he'll get exposed again here.

Coughlin doesn't like to rest players, so I doubt they'll lose. I think Minnesota will choke and Chicago gets in the playoffs.

And there's a lot of other reason why Coughlin should play his starters.

You would beat Minnesota in hopes Chicago wins. This way you send Dallas/Philadelphia/Tampa to Chicago to play in a cold weather environment. They have to realize if any of those teams get in they're threat. What more better then to send them to cold weather at Soldier Field

Your starters can get a good look at Minnesota just in case they meet in the playoffs.

And this way your team doesn't lose momentum. Obviously if they're up by 21, they'll put their backups in.

From rotoworld.com:

NBCSports' Tom Curran reports that Tom Brady's recovery from ACL and MCL surgery is "well" behind schedule.

Curran says that since Brady had staph infections cleared from his knee, both ligaments remain "loose" and scar tissue may need to be removed through yet another surgery. Brady's knee reportedly has little mobility and his quadriceps have been affected. Curran also reports that another surgery will not improve the looseness in the ligaments. That could seriously jeopardize Brady's 2009 season and force the Pats to franchise tag Matt Cassel.

Parcells Has Opt-Out Clause; Could Walk Away From Dolphins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3795922)
Will Bill Parcells become a free agent -- again?

It's a possibility, hinging on whether Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga's sale of his majority ownership of the team goes through, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

When Parcells joined the Dolphins as executive vice president of football operations last year, his deal included a one-time out clause that allowed him to walk away, with the rest of his $12 million guaranteed contract fully paid, no strings attached, if Huizenga sold the team.

Earlier this year, Huizenga agreed to sell 95 percent of the Dolphins to New York developer Stephen Ross. Huizenga hopes to close on the deal by early January to ensure that the capital gains taxes on the sale remain at 15 percent before President-elect Barack Obama takes the oath of office in January, Mortensen reported.

Parcells' contract specifically states only Huizenga can be in authority over him. Once Ross officially becomes majority owner, Parcells has to notify Ross within 30 days that he intends to exercise his walk-away clause and collect the full balance of $9 million, Mortensen reported.

At that time, Parcells would be a free agent. And any team that wants his services would not owe compensation to the Dolphins, according to the report.

Among the teams sources say are on Parcells' radar are the New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and the Oakland Raiders. However, if Parcells' son-in-law, New England Patriots vice president Scott Pioli, is interested in any of those jobs, Parcells is unlikely to wind up with that team, Mortensen reported.

Parcells could negotiate with Ross to extend his opt-out clause by one year. But as presently written, the clause doesn't extend after one season, according to the report.

FOXSports' Jay Glazer reports that CBS analyst Bill Cowher will not go to the Browns in 2009 no matter how much money he's offered.

Cowher's wife can't be happy. As many other reports have indicated, Glazer says Cowher will not coach in 2009 but could return the following season. It sounds like the Browns may as well begin targeting other candidates.

I don't think we should be worried, J. I've read multiple times in the paper that even though there's such a clause in Parcell's deal, he isn't expected to leave as long as the new owner is hands-off when it comes to the Tuna's department. It still should make some of us a little ineasy though. :csad:

And the worst part is, it is not even just the playoffs. It is the number two seed. They are not going up, they are not going down, win or lose. Bad call on Tomlin's part. Yes, and no.

The fans, especially the last game of the regular-season, want to see the players go out in a bang. Go three quarters with your starters and if you're in the lead by a lot, or down by a lot, give them a rest.

The chances of your starters getting hurt for more than 1 week is so incredibly small that it's better to play them so they stay sharp and such.

I used to coach in a basketball league, and even though the kids were only 13 at max, you could see that after a week or two off before the playoff's (there was a natural 1 week break between regular and post season, and if you were the top team you'd get the last week's games off), the playstyle and game suffered greatly.

Now, I know 13 year olds playing basketball is NOTHING compared to NFL starters, but I can't see it being too much different in terms of "the longer you're out of the game, the worse off you are". And anyone that's played sports for real in their life (leagued, not pick up) can tell you that NO amount of practice can compare to playing actual games against other teams that are going to do everything in their power to see you lose.

When you have a legitimate shot at the 'end game', you do not go out and play your starters in the last game of the season against one of the WORST teams in the league. You just don't do it. Tomlin's decision was nothing short of pure arrogance. At most, you play them one or two drives. You reward the fans by winning in the playoffs, not in a game that means nothing at the end of the regular season.

Different strokes. If I had to watch, say the Buc's second and third stringers go out there today (say they were on equal terms and conditions of the Steelers), I'd be pissed as hell.

I just know that, locally, at the Bucs games I go to our entire quad section block gets in an uproar if the starters are pulled towards the end of the season to give them a week off before the playoffs.

What are they gonna do then? You can't go with 8 seeds because that would just put more crappy teams in the playoffs. You can't go by just conference record because there would be no need for divisons. All 32 teams know how the format goes, so if they wanted to be in, they should have won more games. If Patriot fans want to ***** about their team not being in the playoffs, then they should ***** about their team not winning their games against the Jets and Colts. Both games came down to 3 points and one of them was in overtime. Win one of those games and your team is in. You change it now and you might have something else happen that someone doesn't like.

What are they gonna do then? You can't go with 8 seeds because that would just put more crappy teams in the playoffs. You can't go by just conference record because there would be no need for divisons. All 32 teams no how the format goes, so if they wanted to be in, they should have won more games.

When you see something that ISN'T fair, then it need to be changed. I DON'T care who your favorite team or mine is, some 9-7 team get in, while 10-6 team don't ISN'T fair, period.

Both HOWs (More teams in Playoffs, and Eliminate 8-8, 9-7 teams if there are better record teams) WORKS and are MORE Fair!!!

You're not getting it through your head are you? Look at the standings in 2004. You would still have two 8-8 teams in the playoffs and a 7-9 team if they went with 8 seeds. You wouldn't eliminate 8-8 teams, you would simply put more in.

I don't understand that logic. No matter what happen, a team with a 8-8 or even 9-7 record is going to make the playoffs regardless, if they win their division. I would think by expanding the playoffs you would allow better teams like a 11-5 Patriots to make the playoffs when normally, they would be eliminated.

He fulla****.

The words spilled out of Jon Kitna (http://fantasyfootball.usatoday.com/content/player.asp?sport=NFL&id=28)'s mouth last month just as easily as they did 11 months earlier, when the Detroit Lions quarterback predicted his team would reach double figures in wins during the 2007 season.
When the Lions defeated the Denver Broncos on Nov. 4 and improved to 6-2, they seemed on their way to a 10-win season for the first time since 1995.
But for a franchise with just 12 winning seasons in the past 40 years, a winning record was not in store for 2007. It was a lot of the same old Lions. Detroit lost seven of its final eight games, including six in a row, and finished 7-9.
But Kitna fearlessly reiterated his 10-win prediction for 2008 anyway.

Shoddy defense on that last Jets possession. Missed tackles, blown coverages on top of the silly penalties early on. Miami usually plays smarter than this.

From rotoworld.com:

Profootballtalk reports that the Browns have already let go of Phil Savage.

Savage won a power struggle with team president John Collins in 2005, Savage's first year on the job, and had Cleveland on the rise the next two years. After a highly aggressive offseason that included trading up for Brady Quinn in the 2007 draft, the Browns went 10-6 and Savage got a contract extension. However, this year's 4-12 flop coupled with Savage's PR blunders sealed his fate. Savage is still sure to resurface at a high position in another NFL front office. He's a good evaluator and respected by his peers.

It's so weird with the Lions. IMO, they're really not the worst team in the league in terms of talent. They simply could not find a way to finish games.

Think about it. They were up 17-0 against Tampa, 10-0 at Carolina, 21-21 in the 4th with Indianapolis......and they lost all of those games. They were competitive nearly every single week, and yet they just never could pull out a win. It's amazing.
