According to IESB (http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4266&Itemid=99), Cover Girl has been cast and she's Karolína Isela Kurková (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1081656/), a 24 year old model from Czech Republic. Below is a pic:

Soooooo our last two people cast are "Where are you?" guy from Batman Begins supposedly as the main villain and Karolina who's only acting experience as near as I can tell is in a shampoo commercial where all she does is smile and flick her hair and a jeans commercial where all she does is...wait for it...wait for it...smile and flick her hair.
Weak.
Can't wait to see who they get for Shipwreck.

I know. It really feels like the people behind this lost interest in quality (let along continuity) a long time ago.

Well, the same can be said about Audrey Hepburn when she appeared in Monte Carlo Baby (meaning she had no prior acting exposure). Though I'm not expecting acting brilliance from her, everyone has to start somewhere. And in Kurkova's case, it just happens to be in G.I. Joe. Currently, we have no idea how large or complex the role is, or even of Kurkova's acting talents.
Regarding the actor playing Destro, that is extremely unfair. Just because he made a brief appearance as an extra in a film, it is automatically assumed he won't be able to play a leading role, overlooking the fact that he is a trained and professional stage actor?

That's definitely how I feel. People want to ignore the wealth of acting training the man has had and just focus on the fact that he's the "Where Are You?!?" guy from Batman Begins. Even so, why is that something to scoff at?

Exactly, atleat the guys a trained actor. Half the people in hollywood are ex models or wannabe celebrities. The care about being famous first and the craft of acting a distant second.

Hey if he makes it big he could make "where are you?" a catchphrase like Arnie's "I'll be back". Sadly enough the fact remains that outside of a comic forum nobody knows this guy.
They have the resources to put together an ensemble cast rivalling Sin City's (ie recognizable actors) but over half their choices so far have been just bizarre, especially their last two.

It looks and feels as if they are going as cheap as possible on the cast. Saving money for Sommer's AMAZING CGI no doubt. :cmad: :csad:

I fail to see how this is a factor.

300 didn't need a recognizable lead, let alone a recognizable ensemble cast, and that movie still managed to be an incredibly successful film.

How much more bizarre is GI Joe's casting compared to Sin City? Elijah Wood as Kevin?!? Before we actually saw footage, what do you think most fans' reactions were to that casting? I'm failing to see how GI Joe's casting is bizarre. I hear a lot of people pissing and moaning about Marlon Wayans, as if he were playing some sacred fan favorite character, when in actuality, the character's a third-stringer at best. Everyone's convinced he's going to be excessively goofy, as if he's NEVER done anything where his acting had to be serious and subdued, when we know that isn't the case. Had his last movie been Requiem For A Dream, instead of Little Man, I doubt people would be complaining as much. The fact that he has done some rather stupid films, shouldn't take away from the fact that he has shined in a dramatic role that not everyone could pull off.
As for Tatum, he's got a solid look that fits Duke, he's been building his acting resume in the past few years, I fail to see his casting as being out of left field. And everyone else looks fine to me. And we still don't know the extent of Joseph Gordon Levitt's charactere in the film, if he turns out to be Cobra Commander or not.

I hate when people assume recognizable actors are the only way to a successful movie. Pure ignorance. This type of movie will probably be better with lesser known actors because you won't have the egos of known actors trying to steal the spotlight(ie. Halle Barry as Storm). You don't even wait for photos, you just go "oh I've never heard of him, that's terrible casting" =\

I agree no one knew Christopher Reeves or Brandon Routh. Unless you are an incredibley well connected director with actor friends willing to take a pay cut like the ocean films you are not gonna get a cast full of A listers. We all have our dream casts but you gotta be realistic.

Without big name actors the film won't seem as big as it did when a lot of the fans were younger.

A solid look that fits Duke? Duke never looked like an under 30 reject from a boyband. Harsh as that may sound, it's a fact: He looks nothing like the traditional appearance of the G.I. Joe team's First Sergeant!
The actor cast as Duke should have been someone who not only looks as if he can pass as an E-8, but someone who can portray a certain degree of experience, ruggedness and screen presence.

"Harsh as it may sound"? Do you think I'm hurt by your opinion of what you think Duke should look like?
As several people have stated, it's not unfathomable for someone Tatum's age to reach Duke's military rank, if not a higher ranking than that. So pissing and moaning about him being too young doesn't really fly. To say nothing of this idea of how a military officer should look. The whole "He's too pretty looking to be in the army" argument is just rather laughable. I just find it all kind of narrow-minded, presuming to know how a person in the military would and wouldn't look. As to imply there's never been anyone in the military that could possibly look comparable to Tatum, it's ridiculous.

It's not the rank/age that is bothering me. It's the age of a person who is supposed to be the leader of the worlds top military organization. Most Seargants probably are around Tatum's age but most Seargants aren't the field commander of an elite military organization.

People would be more impressed with a bigger, more star studded cast - much like how they were impressed with the G.I. Joe universe as a kid.:wow:

They're impressed with GI Joe! A Big-name cast is irrelevant when measured against the popularity of the property being adapted. If GI Joe is the big property we all remember it to be, and believe it continues to be, It's not going to matter who's cast in the roles. If you're going to scoff at the cast because the stars aren't high-profile enough, than you were never a real GI Joe fan in the first place.

Come to think of it, it doesn't really matter, because I'd hesitate to think that GI Joe was ever meant to be a completely accurate portrayl of any aspect of the U.S. Military, anyway.

Maybe that's the point? To show that Duke is such a dynamic soldier and leader that he's risen through the ranks and earned the respect of the brass despite his age?

Please. Transformers had Shia Labeouf as the star of Transformers. The only thing he was known for before that was playing a goofy kid on Even Stevens on the Disney Channel. People know what GI Joe is, just like they knew what Transformers was, which made it a big deal without having big named actors. And yes, I know Jon Voight was in Transformers. Think of Dennis Quaid as the Jon Voight of this movie.

Whoa, easy there, the "harsh" comment wasn't directed toward you. I'm saying my referring to Tatum as a boyband reject may seem harsh in general, but that's what he looks like.
I've been in the army...and I can safely say: No...I've never seen a First Sergeant as young (or young-looking), as Tatum. They all...ALL...look about late 30's at best. As an NCO, he could pass for a Staff Sergeant. And I'll grant you, he could also pass for an officer. But not a First Sergeant (or any NCO of higher rank).
Oh, I also never said Duke can't be played by a "pretty boy", Thomas Jane is kinda "pretty" but way more qualified to play Duke.

Dude, trust me, I was a G.I Joe fan. What I'm trying to say is that I want this trilogy to be BETTER than X-Men, BETTER than Batman, BETTER than Spiderman, BETTER than Transformers, and BETTER than Star Wars. That's not going to happen with this cast, it just won't. Maybe it will make more $$$ but it won't be better than any of those.
Now, if they had:
Matt Damon as Duke
John Depp as Cobra Commander
Christina Ricci as Baroness
Clive Owen as Flint

Then it has the potential to be outstanding.:oldrazz:

Personally, I feel that physical appearance comes a distant second behind personality. Even if someone looked the part, if they don't act the way the character is supposed to, it just wouldn't 'feel' right. And from what I heard, Tatum is supposed to be hardworking, eager and willing to learn; all aspects which seem to fit what Duke represents in G.I. Joe (the all-American boyscout image).

I've never discounted personality (which is why Nathan Fillion was my personal choice). And I hope your right about Tatum. But these casting directors have so many resources to choose from. They can't find someone who fit's both in personality and appearance?

No, but you do need someone better than the master of douchbaggery Channing "Not a single blond hair on my head or any other thing that makes me look remotely like Duke" Tatum to play an iconic hero like Duke. :o
