Armie Hammer is very intimidating and have a voice condizent with Batman. He would't be my initial choice, but changing his hair to Black and working... Who knows?

I remember when Jonathan Frakes and Richard Donner were listed as directing the Superman movie after Brett Ratner had been dumped from it. Its a good site for looking up information about past movies that have already been released, but heavily unreliable when it comes to upcoming projects.

I would love for this movie to be made if it had the right cast and script. But right now IMO it has neither. I feel this is a rushed product and the WB should just hold off and rethink things.

You know, even though he is taller, Hammer could be made to look like a Michael Keaton version of Batman/Bruce Wayne. I think a lot of people are also discounting the flexibility of a younger actor to play more mature in his/her role. Some examples of that can be seen in actors like Natale Portman, who was younger than 18 when she performed in "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace". The same thing goes for Kiera Knightley when she played in "Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl". Leonardo DiCaprio was 22 when he stared in "Titanic". I think it is a false argument to say that an actor is too young when they are in their early 20's when there are lots of actors who pull it off all the time.I'd excise the Portman thing because she was terrible in those movies, it wasn't her fault but still...
I get what you are saying though.

What's it really matter how old an actors is? If a young actor can play an older character, then I don't see what the problem is. Armie Hammer may be 21, but I bet he can play 31.

Clive Owen puts the M in Man. But I have no idea what role he would fit in this movie. I just want someone who gives me the "man"-vibe, the way Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, Bruce Springsteen etc. gives me.
Instead it looks like we are getting Backstreet Boys. Why don't they equip the heroes with skin-lotion and a mop while their at it.
By the missing eye of Odin, their names end with "man" for crying out loud. So go find us som men. Or else change their names to Superguy and Batfella.
Grumpy today, yes I am :P

Well its nice to hear its officially shooting for summer 09 release. I Hope though we get better people in the batman and superman roles. Well Yes hammer isnt right for bats with his young age, i was warming up to him. He has a good deep voice and would be an intimating bats at 6'5. I just hope DJ cotrona isnt supes in the end he is totally wrong for the role. Hopefully for supes role they see this(doubtful) and pick someone else..... welling....porter..... someone who looks more like the character.
I say, since we have to work with what they've given us, cast Armie Hammer as SUPERMAN, NOT Batman, and cast DJ Cotrona as BATMAN, NOT Superman.

That surprised me too. Even if they decided to go with 'more affordable' actors for the hero leads, you figure the villains (which could easily be limited to one film, as opposed to the franchise aspirations for the heroes) would bring some name recognition to increase appeal to the masses.
Exactly and you don't even need to get a megastar who'll set back the budget 20 million dollars.
NO :csad: **Slashes his own wrists**
Yeah, but even if they couldn't get a "credible" actor, they could have cast someone who could actually pass for Maxwell Freaking Lord. :o

what kind of a comparison is this?
frodo is small in the LOTR universe. you cast a normal actor and use teh effects to make him smaller. why would you cast a BIG actor to play batman that has long ears and then spend money to make him smaller?
Actually there was very little cgi work used to make the hobbits smaller, mostly they used doubles, and camera tricks like forced perspective.Height is not the big deal people make it out to be, it's ridiculous the way people are so paranoid about that, maybe it'll be strange seeing cotrona and hammer standing together at the premier, but I doubt you notice it on screen.

Let me just say that the finalists tested against a number of other actors for the role and bascially won their roles outright (baring those actors that were being considered and either dropped out or turned down an offer). I will have to say that I trust the decision made by George Miller and Barrie Osborne.

Well if the film is moved out of austrila and miller doesnt stay with the film then there is a chance the new director who ever it might be could recast everyone if he wants to. So in reality we have to see what happens with miller and if the film stays or not in austrila. Hopefully in the end we get a good script better cast for most roles and a good jla film.

Don't know it this has been posted. Emi Jay is reporting that her hubby got an email from someone in the WB and that it looks like JLA is moving to Canada.
Just minutes ago, Steve sent an article to Action-Figure.com with an update on the recent Justice League rumors.
Someone in WB confirmed to him today that it is highly likely the film is moving to Canada because people in the Australian government only want to offer WB a 15% rebate for JLA. With a $220mil budget, WB doesn't feel that's enough of an incentive to stay. A decision is supposed to made by April.
Also, he confirmed during the WGA strike, discussions did take place about removing Superman and Batman from the film and scrapping the OMAC story arc, but he didn't know if the current rewrites are for the new story or just polishing the original.
I had really hoped those rumors would turn out to be false, but it appears they are true. Will WB ever learn??
Everything I posted is what Steve passed on to me. I would assume there isn't anything else in the article. From what I know, the email didn't have much except real quick answers to a couple questions.
I agree completely it makes no sense to remove Superman or Batman, but this is WB we're talking about. Anyone remember the South Park episode where dolphins decided what to put on TV?? I'm thinking it wasn't to far from the truth in WB's case.
In regards to Variety, etc referring to the cast, its all old info being recycled. There are no cast members. I've spoken to many sources at WB and the general feeling is the top brass purposely let the contracts expire. What this means, nobody knows. My personal hope is that there will be a whole new cast.
Also, with the news that they are pushing to move to Canada, this has 2 benefits. One being Welling, two being no more Miller. There are quite a few people who believe he skip JLA and move on to Happy Feet 2 if he can't film in Australia. We'll have to wait and see.

This morning, Showest presented a panel on film in Australia and IESB caught an exclusive interview with Ausfilm Commissioner Tracey Vieira about Justice League, Happy Feet 2, Mad Max: Fury Road and Bax Luhrmann's Australia.
The primary issue in regards to whether or not it will film in Australia seems to be a newly introduced incentive program designed to promote Australia as a nation. Films deemed "significantly Australian" are eligible for a 40% break -- obviously something that makes filming there very attractive to producers.
IESB: There was a rumor early-on when Warner Bros. said they were pulling out because of the tax-breaks that Australia came back and said, "No, no, no. It was because of the script." Then we hear later that it was possibly because of the script but then that they're maybe going to shoot in Canada. Is there a battle going on now to decide?
Vieira: My understanding is that there's not yet a decision been made. Certainly the actors are still training and there's a lot of Australian actors involved. My understanding is that the government still hasn't made a decision or whether the producers have said or not. They're certainly eligible for the other incentive we have.
IESB: Which is which one?
Vieira: 15 percent. It's a location off-set. But, obviously, 40 percent is a lot bigger.
IESB: And that's what they're after? The 40 percent?
Vieira: Absolutely. There's a lot of Australian elements to it but what the government needs to figure out is the significant Australian content and where on the scales is it really falling? Is it somewhere in the middle ground because, if so, it's probably not considered significant. What they don't want to do is take rebranded American films with a change of names and a few attachments and give away such a huge amount of money that would just disappear for us.
IESB: Do you know if that has anything to do with the talk that it wasn't going to be called Justice League of America but just Justice League or Justice League: Mortals and the casting of Australian actors like Megan Gale as Wonder Woman?
Vieira: Well, again, I can't guess why Warner Bros. have made the decisions they've made and I'm certainly not on the panel that makes the final decision about the funding. But certainly talking to some of the Australians involved, they consider it to be a significant Australian film. It's a challenging nutcracker of an incident in that it's come so quickly after it was introduced. It's not an incentive that says, "You check this box, you get five points." It's much more flexible than that so I think they're taking their time with it. And there was Warner Bros. who really didn't feel that the script was quite right and didn't want to right it. Now it's a whole different game in terms of stage-availability.
IESB: Does that then run the of risk of everybody jumping on and saying, "Hey, Hugh Jackman's Australian. We're shooting Wolverine in Australia. We should get the incentive,"?
Vieira: I think that's what everyone's afraid of. If Justice League was to get it then the government would have made the decision that it was a significantly Australian film rather than a rebranded film. Really, that's why it hasn't happened more quickly in terms of a decision. They're working very closely with Warners to make sure they're making the right decision. Because if they do make it, they don't want to open that door that anybody can come to Australia with a $200 million film and get 40 percent or the incentive will go away. That's the last thing we want to happen...

I agree. I felt JLA won't be part of SR & SV. It will be own continuity along with Batman. I imagine that why both Bale & Routh won't play the characters. Again, it best of those 2 franchises to be finish first & then start on JLA.

I'm thinking the casting of Cotrona is a hoax, it's a carefully planned conspiracy with the goal of making the internet-fanboys happy for the real casting: Tom Welling :D
Welling Hater: "Tom Welling! Well, it's better then Cotrona, that's for sure".
Why those sneaky bastars....
Doesn't it tell you something if they had to pretend another actor was Superman in order to sell Welling. :csad:
I can honestly say that If Batman or Superman were not in it, then I would not see it.
They'd be the biggest reason i'd have to see it, and if they werent in it, then I wouldnt bother with it.
EDIT: I seriously doubt it's true though. If it is, then IMHO, it would be the biggest mistake they could possibily make with J.L.
I don't understand why that would even cross WB's mind.

Tom Welling will more then likely not be Superman as long as Singer's sequel is a go. Now if there is no sequel to Superman Returns then I will agree with you.
After 7 years of playing Clark Kent & not doing plenty of movies, I don't think he won't to do more of him as Superman in the movie & the sequels. He likely don't want anything to do with Superman anymore after SV is done, with how he will be typecasted & not find many roles in tv/movies. It best if he start something new than playing the character again in movies.

George Miller working with God of War's Cory Barlog on...?
Newsweek blog "Level Up" is reporting that Cory Barlog (top right), the director of "God of War II" who recently left Sony in the middle of development on "God of War III" and the recent PSP spin-off "Chains of Olympus," is now working with George Miller (second on right), director of "Mad Max," "Happy Feet," and Warner Bros' upcoming "Justice League, on "one or more videogame projects."
No info on what they are, or how the two are collaborating. "Level Up" editor N'Gai Croal is being a huge tease and making us wade through enjoy reading an extended interview with Barlog in two parts. There's no specific information on the project yet, though it is very interesting to read what Barlog has to say about the frustrations of being a successful videogame director vs. film director. For instance:
In the film industry, you make one movie, one movie that's successful--it doesn't matter if you've done anything prior to that--you make one movie that's successful and everybody loves it, at that point you are bankable, marketable and you have your choice. You have an idea, people want to move with you on that, you know you have the opportunity to work with many more people of a higher stature and increase your audience. With the game industry, you make ten games and people are still like, [skeptical voice] "Well, yeah, I don't know. Maybe, maybe it's good."
Tomorrow, "Level Up" will publish Croal's interview with Miller, including details on just what the project is. A lot of film directors talk about getting involved in videogames but never end up doing much (Steven Spielberg and John Woo being the notable exceptions), so I'll be on the lookout not only for what Miller and Barlog's project is, but also how far along they are in actually making it happen. And is it just an idea on paper, or something with money and a development team behind it? Hopefully we'll have the answer tomorrow.

I think it would be safe to say that both he and Barrie Osborne own the filming rights to the project. If they are not tied to it then nobody will for a while (as in years). I am also not buying the moving to Canada thing either. The best they could get is a 16% offset since they are not Canadians nor are their production companies. Australia is offering them a 15% offset, the US dollar is stronger there, and they already have camp set up in the country. In my opinion, it would be a bad decision and and a hit to your production budget to move to Canada (unless they are going to guarantee some type of offset that is much much better than what they are going to get now).

But who knows at this point since we dont know what is going on behind the scenes. At any moment things could totally change so who knows.

I don't see why WB is putting off this movie when they green lit the thing in the first place... its obvious that the majority of execs don't feel the way we do... most of them think this is a good idea.. and most of them think this movie has to get done by 2009... I mean they are going to take the production to wherever they can get the best deal... besides we don't even know if the script is complete yet so they have got some time... they might be behind schedule... but at the same time... there is still enough time... to make a hapass summer tentpole film at least...

I agree with that. The best route for Warner Bros would be pushing for the Man of Steel, Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. They have directors and screenwriters for Man of Steel, Flash, and Green Lantern. They have a star for Wonder Woman (just transfer her from Justice League to a Wonder Woman movie). Build them up and get them to team up in a Justice League movie a couple of years down the road.

If you read the first article closely, it implies that Mad Max is one of the games that they are making with Miller involved.
While the interview didn't categorically rule out a JLA game by him, it implied that Cory was brought in at this early stage to work on a proper Mad Max game that could be ready in time for the movie's release a few years from now, and that Cory reviewed material from that movie before going back home to start work on it. The second article states that Miller doesn't own the interactive rights to the comic. That's why I came to the conclusion that he won't be involved in a possible JLA game.
That's not to say one won't be thrown together by DC for 2009.

Studio received the most spirited applause for the footage of "Dark Knight," Nolan's sequel to "Batman Begins." Nolan took time to say how grateful he was to have worked with Heath Ledger, who appears in "Dark Knight" as the Joker. The clip played Thursday showed a sequence with Ledger. Producer Joel Silver took the stage to give a lesson on the Wachowski brothers' family tentpole "Speed Racer," promising that the film will be as much of a breakthrough as the "Matrix" franchise. He also stressed that the film is rated PG. The clip of "Get Smart" drew plenty of laughs, a good thing considering it is opening on June 20, the same date as Paramount's Mike Myers starrer "The Love Guru," clips of which also played well earlier in the week at ShoWest. Just before Lucas took the stage, Warners also previewed sequel "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2."

I am hearing Deathly got pushed back to November 2010??? I thought they wait only a year and a half before releasing each film... condsidering Potter 6 is in November... I mean maybe they need more time filming since its going to be two films... its obvious they are making room for their comic book properties... JLA could easily get pushed back... or they can slip in MOS.
I don't think that is obvious in the least, they aren't pushing aside their biggest moneymaker in order to stick in an unproven property. That would be horrible business.

Yea which was a given for the film once bale and routh were not going to be in it. It can work but alot of nuckleheads will think its the same continuities and all that. I dont really see why we cant have different continuties in live action it works in cartoons. Take for example when the batman started jlu was still on and we had two bats running around at same time. Or season 5 of the batman had superman in permiere and the legion had two superman both at the same time.

Yeah, I read that on Variety... good lord they seem to be milking HP... so what is that going to be 7/8 movies? heh...
now why can't they do that for some other franchises......
It'll be eight movies by the time they're done with it. But the two-film decision was made by the producers, writer and director -- NOT the studio, although the studio doesn't mind one bit. If you read the book, there's too much going on for two movies and that there's a plot already laid out. So, I'll redirect you to the Harry Potter thread here (http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=279314&page=41). At least their excuse for making another film is pretty valid, unlike some other franchises...

I just don't get why Bale is putting himself through all this crap... I mean Batman... now a Terminator trilogy? Reminding me of what Ford did with Star Wars and then Indy shortly after... or maybe Stallone... the only difference is... these two franchises were already major franchises before Bale even boarded either of them... that's a huge difference. Why does he need all this publicity? Not that he doesn't mind but he doesn't look comfortable in the spot light... obviously the money is good but if I were him I would have focused on smaller projects rather than another huge blockbuster franchise... I mean McG is really an attractive director to work with? Anyways I don't mind either way... I just would have preferred him starring in a JLA or WF as his other major blockbuster instead of Terminator... but oh well...

I think the situation might be a bit different. Playing John Connor is probably not as stressful as playing Batman. Also, I thought there was another major character in that franchise and that the main focus of the movies would be on that other character? Of course it makes more sense to focus on Connor's character....Honestly, I don't know, and Bale sure as hell isn't opening up about it. I kinda hope he ditches that project, but maybe he's looking for a new, succesful franchise to continue after he finishes Nolan's. Maybe he likes big budget franchises, who knows. he surely doesn't likes McG, so maybe the script is awesome....Or the paycheck.

Back in Production! GREAT!

looks back it's indeed back in production :o
EXCLUSIVE: If you hear about a movie titled 7 FRIENDS, take note!
Justice League is still very much alive guys and I’m of the opinion that all those actors who we have mentioned cast a while back are still locked for this project (with the possible exception of Anton Yelchin) and if it gets going soon they will all be able to suit up pretty quickly.
I also believe that Warner Bros. have spent so much time, effort and money to get the film this far into production that they are scared to death of halting the project indefinitely. They are frantically working on script re-writes and hoping the SAG strike is as quickly resolved as the aborted DGA strike and obviously not the WGA one which would be a worst case scenario.
You can take all this info that I got from an e-mail last night as being legit. Every time we’ve reported on the Justice League we have been 100% spot on so far and although it doesn’t tell us much that we don’t know already, it does confirm a few things (the Owen Paterson rumor that’s been spreading) and the new secret code name…
The code title of the movie is 7 Friends.
The team (incl Owen Paterson) is still officially on hiatus but there’s a skeleton crew working on it in Australia while the rewrites happen. Costume designer Emily Seresin comes in two days a week. What she’s doing? I’m not sure.
Considerable amount of work has already been done incl the construction of some sets.
Besides costumes Weta was/is also slated to do special effects makeup
Suspicions are that the film will remain in Oz but the threat of a strike and a move to Canada still remains
The pic has always been slated for extensive green screen work. [this was in response to stuff I heard about it being a “highly stylised” film - something akin to Sky Capt, Sin City, 300 etc]
An agent said this - “The film is to be done entirely in Australia, with Australian crew. They still have concerns about the script and actors’ strike. It most likely will not start before a SAG agreement is reached.”

They know him as "the guy that plays Batman". He isn't a box office draw and outside of the internet doesn't create anticipation for a film that he has a role in. Before Heath Ledger's death I would've said TDK might've given him that push to becoming a big star but now I feel he will be overshadowed by Ledger. And Terminator has to be something special if he wants it to get him noticed.
If its not one thing its another. Hopefully people learned from the writers strike, that there is no need for an actors strike. Glad Mr. Owen Paterson is on board!
Lets get the ball rolling!

The 10th Anniversary issue of "Entertainment Weekly" crowned Christian Bale as one of the "Top 8 Most Powerful Cult Figures" of the past decade. EW also calls Bale one of the "Most Creative People in Entertainment" after his brilliant turn as the psychopathic yuppie serial killer in American Psycho (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144084/) (2000). And "Premiere" lauded him as one of the "Hottest Leading Men Under 30". Christian Bale has garnered a huge international audience ever since he wowed critics with his devastating performance in Steven Spielberg (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000229/)'s WWII epic Empire of the Sun (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092965/) (1987).

Yes, I know he is well regarded by critics and has a huge cult following (cult being the key word here) but my point is that he is not a big name actor in the eyes of the general public.

According to who though? You?
Hes been in huge movies that have made multiple millions of dollars...what I am pointing out is that he has been on mainstream television shows both late night and otherwise and in mass media magazines. This guy is not only known on the internet, that makes no sense. He sure has to thank the internet for his rise, but to say the general public only knows him as Batman is ridiculous.

And Terminator has to be something special if he wants it to get him noticed.
i'm gonna have to humbly disagree. IMO Bale has had a lot of movies in since, 310 to yuma, rescue dawn, prestige, a lot of movies that he doesn't need to be refered to as the guy that played batman, based on my experience. Before batman, he was the guy that played the dude in american psycho, i agree. but not really after BB. Again, its just me.
I don't think bale is gonna be overshadowed by heath's death. I think the succcess of this film will be overshadowed by heath's death, because if it does well, people are gonna say it's because of ledger, and not necessarily from the fact the it might genuinely be a kick-ass movie.

It must be different in the UK because very few people see Christian Bale as a big star here.

i don't understand why they would tell us, considering it the crazy fans that wanna steal it or get on set. whats the point now?
If they are doing this as 300 was done I think that is an extremely smart move.
i agree.
And that was one of the things that i always wanted with Jla.
it is imo a potentially wonderful way to achieve its potential onscreen..

Well, its not like Miller or someone else from his crew issued a statement saying that JLA would work under "Seven Friends". Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just some reporter who happened to find this out?

Well...it's a smart move because thats probably all this film will have going for it.
The stylized effects will be needed to try and hide the crap acting.....

It's not like the average Sidney guy when he will see a sign saying "7 friends" he'll think "Wow, they're shooting Justice League here".
How many people in Chicago knew what "Rory's first kiss" meant?

Not TOO much, but here it is:
EXCLUSIVE: If you hear about a movie titled 7 FRIENDS, take note! (http://www.obsessedwithfilm.com/movie-news/exclusive-if-you-hear-about-a-movie-titled-7-friends-take-note.php)

Every time we’ve reported on the Justice League (http://www.obsessedwithfilm.com/category/**************s/justice-league) we have been 100% spot on so far and although it doesn’t tell us much that we don’t know already, it does confirm a few things (the Owen Paterson rumor that’s been spreading) and the new secret code name…
And here's the link:http://www.obsessedwithfilm.com/movie-news/exclusive-if-you-hear-about-a-movie-titled-7-friends-take-note.php
They also confirmed that the 14 page script reveal was true.
See here for 14 page script summary: http://movieblog.ugo.com/index.php/movieblog/more/more_exclusive_story_info_about_the_justice_league _of_america_movie/
If what they say is true than Barry Allen is the Flash in it!! Cool! He's my personal fave Flash. :-)

Yea someone was talking about this in another thread earlier today, hopefully we get more solid news on jla coming soon. Really all i hope is we get a better script and hopefully some better people for bats and supes if indeed hammer and cotrona were going to be said roles. They are just not right for said roles for variety of reasons. But right now since not alot of official/true news is out we can only speculate and hope we end up with a good film in the end.

Yea the shooting titles for films are just to help keep people away from the film while they are filming in open/ possibly closed sets. But in today's internet world us tech savy people usually know all the code names films are going by so we can all try to find filming locations and get a peak at things.

Same here. I really think that Cotrona was cast as Batman and Hammertime was cast as Superman, It would be more sensible that way.....
But if Cotrona was cast as Superman and Hammer was cast as Batman I'll be soooooooo damn pissed.
But at least I'll get some enjoyment out of seeing the my fave Flash on screen. And GL, even tho it's John not Hal, and WW will be nice to see too.
I just really hope that the Superman and Batman rumors aren't true....

7 friends is pretty fitting just like Red Sun (Superman Returns) and Intimidation Game (batman begins).
Rory's First Kiss on the other hand....no one could possibly guess that that's a Batman movie.:woot:
Leading school for actors? They've clearly never heard of a little school called NIDA.
Neither have i to be frank.:hehe:
thanks retro :)
looks back it's indeed back in production :o

If they choose to go that route it should look great visually.
Hmm.. so maybe they'll use CGI to make DJ Cotrona look like Superman.
I rented a movie he was in (Venom) and he doesn't come across as Superman material. Maybe as Nightwing in the Teen Titans movie but not the man of steel. But then again i haven't seen his screentest.

Yea maybe if there were switched it would look better but personally i think there is tons of better b/c list actors or even unknown actors who could look more like the characters then cotrona and hammer. But right now we dont know for sure if any one is still in from original cast or not and all that. Like some thing gale as ww, common for gl and brody for which ever flash(probably was wally) are likely to stay i just hope as i said some more decent people for supes/bats and possible aquaman and other flash role which ever one brody isnt.
Webhead2006
03-17-2008, 05:34 PM
well we got to remember we dont know right now officially if all or some of the pre delay cast is still going to be in the film. As i mentioned before i am fine with gale, common and brody. But really hope WB wises up(unlikely) and recast some better people for supes and bats then cotrona and hammer.

i don't...what is that?
plus, it will be pretty obvious when superman is walking around in costume that it's not sex and the city.
the thing is, its not the average guy the film company is worried about, it's the crazy fanboys....this place is filled with them. the average guy probably wouldn't want ot steal the film reels, its the crazy fanatics.
Well they could believe it's a scary movie type movie if they see a short latino guy in a superman costume :hehe:
