Yes, Sandman appeared in an episode of the 1960's show, titled Sands of Crime, and also an episode of the 1960's Fantastic Four cartoon as a member of the Frightful Four, titled The Frightful Four, wearing Jack Kirby's Sandman suit. An episode of the 1981 solo cartoon titled The Sandman is Coming, and an episode of Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends titled Spider-Man Unmasked.
That is all of Sandman's appearances in animation, I believe.

There used to be this website called Stage 6 and somebody uploaded a bunch of episodes from that show. Sadly, Stage 6 had to close down.

Sandman looks like he fights better in that little preview than he did in the actual movie.I have to agree with this. I liked Spider-Man 3 but it's true. Sandman was very much underused. He could've done much more then make a sand hand and turn into a gigantic sand monster. He could've done much more. One aspect I would like to see is Sandman shapeshift into other people and create more weapons other then a big sandy....hand. :whatever:

Then again, the action/fight scenes in cartoons are always better than the MOVIES, be it X-Men, Batman, Superman or Spidey.

Haha. That made me laugh.
I wonder though if they'll have Spidey punch Sandman in the stomach and have his arm go right through...which was the only good part in all of the Spidey/Sandman fights in the movie...it surprised the crap out of Spidey, haha.
I really liked he how turned himself into one giant fist though, that was really good. Imagine the impact of that, haha.

Although, even if Superman Returns sucked, the bullet hitting Supes' eye and then falling on the ground was very well done.
Wasn't really a fight scene, but memorable nonetheless.

Well...they are dealing with radioactive material if they're messing with Flint Marko's DNA, so I'm just guessing those tentacles are there to keep Otto away enough so he doesn't get messed up with the radioactive material as well?

So what's going to happen to Harry? I'm guessing a change of outfit and start hanging around with the Flash crowd? Maybe until they near their college years a few seasons later where they all become friends.
What about Gwen? I'm guessing her and Peter will make up pretty soon.
But besides Gwen and MJ, is Peter gonna have any friends if Harry and Brock are out the picture?

Yeah, that explains how Brock becomes Venom and wants to kill Peter. This show is almost identical to the 60s comics. Harry was friends with Flash long before he became friends with Peter.

I think the episode will be about the two of them fighting to take Gwen to the dance and then at the end of the episode Peter will meet Mary Jane and she'll walk in the door and say the infamous "Tiger-Jackpot" line and then the show will end. :D
IamProdigy
03-23-2008, 06:19 PM
And then...Rhino messes up the dance in the next episode, "The Invisible Hand".
That would actually be cool to have a villain break into the school.
The name of the episode, I doubt Rhino will be the center of the episode; perhaps Spidey finds out about the Big Man, and then BM blames it on Norman Osborn and in turn, messes up his experiment which will turn him into the Green Goblin in "Catalysts".

No Lizard in the Sinister Six, especially this Lizard, he's too wild. And in terms of Rhino, I wouldn't want him on the team if Shocker is too. To similar to the 90's "Insidious Six". What about Mysterio? He's suppose to be in one of the episodes and he's an original Sin 6 member. This show will most likely try and stay close to the 60's. Mysterio FTW

Guys, The Lizard has no place in the Sinister Six. Never has. He's not that kind of villain. He's not interested in making partnerships with other villains to destroy Spider-Man.
Very true.
I hope that future appearances of Lizzy might have him being more intelligent and even talking like in the comics, but he would still never willingly team up with a group of supervillains.
Although there have been a couple strange exceptions in the comics...
Lizard's participation with the "Sinister Twelve" in Marvel Knights Spider-Man # 10 and #11 was set up by Norman Osborn. It's possible that Osborn used some kind of drug to control the Lizard when he broke Curt Connors out of prison and transformed him. During the brief battle between Spider-Man and the Sinister Twelve, the Lizard did not speak or interact with any of the other villains, he merely attacked Spidey and Black Cat until the Avengers came and captured all the bad guys.
Also, in the Civil War mini series, there was a single panel showing Captain America and his "Secret Avengers" battling the Sinister Six, which was shown to include Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Shocker, Trapster, Grim Reaper, and the Lizard. There has been no other mention of this Sinister Six anywhere outside that one cameo appearance, so it could just be a result of the writer not bothering to check up on who the actual Sinister Six was supposed to be.
But in spite of these two weird events in the comics, it's obvious that the Lizard isn't a team player, so he should never be a part of the Sinister Six.

Speaking of the big man does anyone else agree that his secret identity design actually works pretty well compaired to his original design in the comics? Like as the Big Man he looks threatening but in his regular street clothes he looks like an average joe.

Naturally, as this show is embracing subplots and building up rogues, Dr. Octopus is being built up by showing Dr. Otto Octavious doing his research with his arms before becoming Doc Ock. In some ways this takes a page from Ultimate Spider-Man, which did the same thing. Plus, the Lizard was built up over 3 episodes, and presumably Osborn across the whole season, so why not Ock, who used to rival Osborn for the "main enemy" title (at least before Venom rose to form in the late 80's, or Osborn returned from the dead in the late 90's). Thankfully for Ock, SPIDER-MAN 2 was his film, and most fans consider that the best of the movie trilogy. So I don't expect Ock to be mishandled here.
I simply hope that this Dr. Octopus, whenever he arrives, is ambitious and even leader-material. In the 90's series, aside for his debut episode, Ock spent 95% of his screen-time acting as Kingpin's henchman, and that seems underwhelming. I imagine things could work as they did in USM; Otto working with Osborn on his experiments until of course one goes poorly enough to result in an explosion...
What is also cool, of course, is how Flint Marko himself has been built over various episodes as Spidey's favorite goon to pummel, so him becoming Sandman, one of Spidey's most powerful enemies, should be great drama fodder. Plus, it is the first time Sandman has been animated since 1984. The sand-morphing effects look good, although frankly, after seeing WB animation handle Clayface for years, Sandman shouldn't be any harder.
Plus, this will mean a 5th uninterupted new episode on Kid's WB. That's a rare thing, even for a show that is just debuting. Most of the time you're lucky if you get 4 episodes before reruns, even for a debuting show. I wonder if this strategy will change once The CW takes over in the fall.

To be fair, 4kids isn't afraid of running original episodes for a while. For many years, they easily ran 7-14 episodes of TMNT straight through without any qualms, and that was during the first 4 seasons when every season had 26 episodes. They're running the 13 episode "Lost Season" straight through right now, too.
Sure, Turtles is a big franchise for 4Kids, but I could imagine them seeing Spider-Man as being similar.
Plus, isn't The CW a mergence of CBS and UPN, basically? I could be wrong.
But, yeah, this show will do very well on DVD, even if they bleed it out via 3-4 episodes per disc rather than one season set.
You are defenitley 100% correct, IMO, Dread.

No it's not so much taking a page out of USM as it is doing the smart thing a comic, tv show, or movie should do, which is build up villains, especially the ones who they want to have a lasting effect.
I simply hope that this Dr. Octopus, whenever he arrives, is ambitious and even leader-material. You haven't hung around the Marvel Comics forum, where me being right is hardly accepted knowledge. ;)
The web-slinging looked fine to me. The MTV show actually made it look great, but they reused animation as well (I own the series and literally counted one reused shot a dozen times across 13 episodes).
No it's not so much taking a page out of USM as it is doing the smart thing a comic, tv show, or movie should do, which is build up villains, especially the ones who they want to have a lasting effect.

I mentioned USM because that had Otto working as a scientist for Osborn on genetic experiments before the explosion that bonded him to the tentacles. They had that angle first.
Yeah, build up is natural, of course.
Otto was the most independant of the Insidious Six, but he still rarely acted on his own without being involved with Kingpin, which was my issue. Usually in the comics Doc Ock is a free agent, or only leads teams to use them as fodder for his agenda, whether killing Spider-Man, trying to take over the world, or become a figure in the underworld.

Well everyone has their preferences of course, and I don't mind the savage Lizard every now and then. But if he's ALWAYS a mindless monster running amok, then there's not going to be anything new to see in future Lizard episodes. Lizzy needs some brains every now and then to keep Spidey on his toes.
I actually prefer the old-school Lizard who spoke, didn't realize he was Connors, and tried to take over the world.
Ah, the 60s...

"The experiment that was supposed to bond a cutting-edge, silicon armor to Flint Marko was botched, and instead the petty criminals entire body was converted into an unforeseen form of living sand. Encouraged by his newfound ability to morph his granulated body into weapons, Marko continues his life of crime as Sandman an unrelenting opponent for The Spectacular Spider-Man!"

Hrm...so a botched experiment to give Marko an amoured silicon body, huh?
I wonder if, in a later season, if Sandy gets his entire body heated, his body will turn into silicon?
So they wanted to give Flint Marko a silicon body, to possibly make his body pretty much invulnerable, so what would be the case of Alex O'Hirn's transformation? That wanted something bigger than a spider so they infused his blood with a rhino's blood? Lol.

the botched silicon armour could be flint turning into sandman and the real silicon armour could be the rhino suit.
so there will be aggro between the two if there was ever a sinister six plot.

I must admit, i am not a fan of all of these scenes being released before the episode airs, i've always preferred them to release screen caps after a show has come out to reflect on the highlights of them instead of giving them to us as teasers.
We as fans are teased far too often these days.

I kind of agree. I mean sometimes they give you so much that by the time you see the episode, or movie, or whatever, you know exactly what's going to happen, and nothing is new to you.
But I don't think they are spoiling that much for this show.

But then again, sometimes you come home to a new 52 inch widescreen HDTV

so MJ is probably gonna appear at the end of this episode so that they can do the whole thing with her wanting to see the spidey/rhino fight like in the comics, but still i hope MJ doesnt show up for a few more episodes so that Pete and Gwen can sort things out and just become an item when MJ appears like in the comics, forcing Peter to kinda freak out because he's kinda with Gwen but theres this smoking hot fox wanting him too.
i mean Pete's GOT to be with Gwen when MJ appears, it adds so much more dynamic, because if he starts out with MJ instead, why would he ever go for Gwen after he's been with MJ?
actually that might still work, you know how Harry was gonna ask Gwen to that dance thing? Maybe he'll become popular this episode and get some popular chick to go with him, and Pete will make up with Gwen and ask her, he comes home all cheery at the end that he got the girl, and then last scene, door knock, BAM "face it tiger, you just hit the jackpot", now hes in a major dilemma

i mean Pete's GOT to be with Gwen when MJ appears, it adds so much more dynamic, because if he starts out with MJ instead, why would he ever go for Gwen after he's been with MJ? Well, in the episode description, it says that Peter is looking for someone to go to the prom with. This might mean that Gwen is still upset with Peter, so Peter have to look for a date.

Encouraged by his newfound ability to morph his granulated body into weapons, Marko continues his life of crime as Sandman an unrelenting opponent for The Spectacular Spider-Man!"
