View Full Version : So...is Lizard warm blooded or cold blooded?

I ask because in Natural Selection, he was bouncing off the walls with energy a rodent would envy and that Polar Bear exhibit didn't do squat to slow him down.:liz:

I think he's cold blooded in this show without a doubt.

Well, I know they said he was (at least they theorized) except everything I pointed to means he either wasn't or he was on crack.

Crack.

The water affected him, but it just wasn't the sudden dramatic effect you'd expect. I thought as soon as he splashed into the water he was going to stumble around woozily, but it was still a battle, which I thought was really cool.

Yeah, it's funny that after their brilliant strategy, Lizard's Achille's heel was his son's skateboard getting lodged into his mouth.

Well either he was speeding on PCP, or has lukewarm blood. I don't know, it's only a cartoon.

I don't think it matters but the Lizard is a lizard and a human so that right there explains basically everything.

Yep, pretty much.
Lizard is more vulnerable to cold than a human, but less vulnerable than a true reptile.
It also just comes down to what needs to happen in the storyline. Case in point: The ASM #45 comic shows Lizard overcome by cold in a refrigerator car, while Peter Parker: Spectacuclar Spider-Man #127 shows Lizzy shake off a blast of cold while under control of Curt Connors' mind.

How strong is the Lizard? Isn't he a little stronger than Spider-Man himself?

Stronger, I believe. Faster too.

In the old Marvel Universe Handbooks, Spidey had 10-ton strength and Lizard had 12-ton strength. So traditionally the Lizard was stronger, but Spidey was somewhat faster in the reflexes department.
These days, Spidey's powers have gone up and down several times, so I'm not sure what his power level actually is. I think the general assumption is still that Lizard is stronger, but Spidey is slightly faster.

I talked to my friend who is really into reptiles and asked him if actually putting a cold blooded animal in cold water would affect its movements, and he told me that it would but not immediately.
So it looks like the cartoon had that part right, but he didn't tell me how long it would actually take for the creature to slowdown.

Me too. I guess the only qualm I have with that episode now is how slowly Lizard seemed to chase Eddie out of the Reptile house. :)

What's up with the Lizard now adays anyway? Has he been appearing in a lot of comics lately?

You can keep up with Lizzy's current activities at my favorite Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizard_%28comics%29
There's been a few Lizard guest appearances lately in such diverse comics as X-Men: First Class, White Tiger, and Spider-Man / Red Sonja. However, the last major Lizard story was last year's "Feral" from Sensational Spider-Man.

Lizards are cold-blooded, of course, and they come to a lull at nights because they are not receiving enough heat to keep their bodies running at a high-energy level. Therefore, if The Lizard were really cold-blooded, he would not have been able to operate for the whole rest of the episode, as the last portion at the zoo took place at night. Therefore, it suggests that The Lizard is really endothermic, at least partially (perhaps as theorized like a dinosaur--LIKE ME).
