I love how people can make up some shizz like "yeah uhh uhh uhh yeah, what waht yeah yeah uhh" and make money off it. what ever. So sorry I (mostly) like artists that write their own stuff and play their own instruments

I also find it pretty funny that NONE the guys hosting this "news channel" can speak legitimate English.

I had trouble understanding some of what they were saying, and I've lived in the south and been around that. That's effin' saying something.

Rap is all the same now, its created a culture of people who use it to disrespect other rappers and women. Its become something of an ego trip for these rappers to be surrounded by beautiful women only to mistreat them and the image of the 'pimp'. These guys are making up for something that they don't have downstairs I'm sure. Nothing in the genre is sincere anymore or original.

What I want to know is, it seems like it's in poor taste to laugh at the guy because he appears to have a mild case of Cerebral Palsy or he's mildly retarded or something.
But then he seems normal, like he's just a ****ing idiot....and then suddenly he freezes and his eyes roll and it's like he's having a seizure....so I don't understand if I'm laughing at a disabled person or a moron.

But then, just as people don't ask to be born with birth defects, morons don't ask to be born stupid, so isn't laughing at a moron just as bad as laughing at a cripple or a retarded person?

It's a thought-provoking video to be sure.

Mhm. Maybe if you watch the typical rap battles practiced by the youth today.

But there are still plenty of battles that go on today that are more in touch with the roots of hip-hop, and focuses on actual mic skills rather than who has a better punchline and swag.

I agree... and I don't agree. I don't think it will ever be as popular as it was in the 90s... but I don't think it will ever go away. It has too much commercial appeal for it to totally disappear. Though the newfound appreciation for classic rock amongst today's youth due to Guitar Hero and Rockband is certainly adding a nail to the coffin.

How?

When songs that have barely-legible guys talking over beats become "the illest" and words and phrases had to be entirely made up for songs to be completed, you know the genre has fallen.

For example: Knuck If You Buck, Soulja Boy, Crank Dat Batman.

Sure, I admit, there are some pretty good artists out there still, but they're barely making headlines for the previously mentioned idiots.

Wait this video proves hip-hop is dead and the music industry is looking for this kind of "talent"? Aren't these just a few kids messing around in video production or something. Um no rap isn't dead, it's certainly not as good and original as it used to be, but it's not dead.

It's dead. These types of guys are in the industry. Do you even listen to rap? I can barely listen to any of it anymore... The few artists I can listen to get no respect (Spider Loc, Lupe Fiasco [who's rising, but still not as popular as I think he should be], and the old-school guys).

Yes, rap is dead.

Yes and no.

Everyone here sucks.

I don't need to explain that at all.

But it is true.

Even I will say I suck.

But to get back on topic...

Black people love country.

If I were to say that, you would read or hear:

All black people love country.

Truth is, what people mean to say is:

The majority of black people love country.

And in this country, majority > fractions of that whole which encompasses that majority.

Same thing with skaters not liking Fiasco.

You don't really care what the whole thinks...because they don't think one thing...and who cares about opinions that differ if it isn't 50/50, or 33/33/33 or 25/25/25/25 ?

Now I never said Fact: skaters hate fiasco

I said, I can tell you what I hear skaters say.

And if you can take your 1/4 of something...your classroom, your city, your country...more times than not you can apply it to a bigger demgraphic given that both test groups share similarities.

And I didn't know you skated. You didn't state that. You had a bit more intel on me than I did on you...but touche nevertheless.

My point earlier was just that Lupe and even Pharrell (as goofy as he is) opened up a lot of younger kids into skating who wouldn't have gotten into it in the first place. Kids who listen to rap as opposed to punk or rock... and I don't see how that type of exposure is a bad thing.

It's a purist vs....I don't even know what to call them thing.

Even some pros are against it. Others think they're being selfish and maybe even elitist if they think skating is just theres.

I have similar feelings about gaming. Years ago it was something only us nerds did and now suddenly, since its profitable, there are Hollywood parties for game premieres and these starlets saying they like video games and all that **** when in truth they probably don't know an XBOX from a juice box.

I'm getting tongue tied with the beginning of that post Manic.
I meant "down" instead of "don't." I'm not a morning person.

When songs that have barely-legible guys talking over beats become "the illest" and words and phrases had to be entirely made up for songs to be completed, you know the genre has fallen.

For example: Knuck If You Buck, Soulja Boy, Crank Dat Batman.

See this is the problem I have with this argument: If you're going to say ish like this, than what would you say about rock? When bands like Nickelback are selling 6 million records for their latest garbage disc, while other more talented bands can't make a dent on any chart, would you say rock is dead too?

Sure, I admit, there are some pretty good artists out there still, but they're barely making headlines for the previously mentioned idiots.

Jay-Z went platinum, Kanye went double platinum, Common's latest debuted at number 1 and went gold, Talib Kweli's latest debuted at number 2, Lupe put out a top ten hit, the Roots are slated to debut high....

The terrible **** isn't the only thing selling in the genre.

It's dead.

No, it's not.

Do you even listen to rap?

I can barely listen to any of it anymore...

You're saying you can barely listen to an entire genre of music because of a few knuckleheads who are riding high on the pop charts? Color me confused.

Yes, rap is dead.

No, it's not.

Well I would gather that a good number of the Hype could really care less about the rap genre (myself included, and as a black man that should be a hint to some people)

LAWL.

As if because you're black you're genetically predisposed to liking rap, but even you don't like it which somehow means there's something wrong with the genre.

Or am I reading too much into that?

My point was that a genre that has a predominantly black fan base....and how most people assume that just because you are black, you automatically like rap...can have its critics from the most unlikely of people..

I still don't really get the point. You yourself used the words "predominantly" and "most". Neither means "all".

A black dude not liking rap is not some out-of-this-world anomaly.

I do find it funny when a black guy says he doesn't listen or like rap and suddenly expects to be this martyr. Like that Simpsons ep. where Lisa is like, "that's right, a GIRL wants to play football!" and Flanders is like, " sure, we have three girls already." :p Standing out from the norm is cool, but drawing more attention to it for self glorification...nah.
