AFI’s 100 Greatest Films Battle Tournament




In 1997 and 2007 the American Film Institute (AFI) presented their list of the 100 greatest American films of all time. This battle is to determine what the Hype thinks the greatest American film is based on the AFI’s list. Will Citizen Kane hold its spot on top? Will a new greatest film be crowned? Only you, the Hype poster, can decide!



The top 100 films have been split into two groups. Group A is comprised of films # 1-50. Group B is comprised of films # 51-100. The films will face each other based on their rankings (For example film #1 will face film #50). Seeding will be this way for the entirety of the tournament. We will do group A 1st round matchups first, followed by group B, and so on for the rest of the tourney (In the event of odd numbered levels, the two films left out from each group will face one another). We will continue until a winner for Group A and Group B have been determined. The final two will face off in the final battle to determine the greatest American film.



Updated scores will appear in this post throughout the duration of the tournament. Please check here to see how your favourite films are faring.




RULES


Players may vote once per individual battle
The winning film will be determined by having at least 8 votes with a margin of victory of 2 within a 72 hour period (from the beginning of the battle)
If there is no clear winner by the end of the 72 hour period, a sudden death match will be announced. Once sudden death is announced by either War Party or myself, the first three votes in will determine the winner. All players are open to vote in sudden death even if they have voted already in the battle except the organizers and those mentioned in rule #4
To make sure no one creates accounts to throw the tourney, you may only participate in this tournament if you have at least 50 posts OR have been registered at the Hype for at least a week. Players who do not meet these requirements will not have their votes counted.
The organizers of this tournament reserve the right to tweak the rules when there is need.Lastly we would like to remind you all to play respectfully. This should be a really fun tournament with some heated battles.

The would pick the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (or probably even the third film, which I thought was the best of the three) over Kane, but Fellowship of the Ring by its lonesome cannot compare. At least I've seen both of these. Some of these I won't be able to vote in because I haven't seen both films.

Wolvy, we are using an entirely different basis for this tourney then yours or QueerMike's (which War Party has taken over anyways due to Queer Mike being banned). We didn't think there would be an issue, plus there is no monopoly on starting tourney's. But if you want to talk about this more then shoot a PM to War Party and I, just so we can keep it out of here.

Ya know THERE ALL CLASSICS, I have to draw the line somewhere. I think this is still in the upper half of his work, but I didn't find the characters engaging at all. Jimmy Stewert is always good, but even for him he was kind of dry. I hear you-who else makes a movie believable about a inner ear condition:woot:, but the flaws in B&C- It's fun watching those two actors so young, plus you got Gene Hackman-
