Its just funny, because I know thats going to be the defense. And it'll be funny because Stephen Sommers, who directed the ludicrous over the top sequences in Van Helsing, will be emphasizing realism in a movie about action figures.

Awhile back, I don't remember if it was Stephen Sommers or one of the producers but they said they was going for a "Batman Begins" feel for this movie, and then I guess by the second movie (if it gets that far) it'll be more comic-booky than the first movie. To me the outfits don't look bad just unoriginal like someone else stated. Snake Eyes is about the best I should say.

I admit that the uniforms look bland but after all they ARE uniforms. You don't see soldiers wearing certain colors that give off their characteristics. Also, the movie takes place 10 years in the future. It makes sense that these uniforms are high tech.
Check out this pic of Peruvian Riot Police:

I also want to add that its obvious that these costumes are gonna be for the final battle/stealth operation. I'm sure they will wear regular military BDU's earlier in the film.

If the above is possible, then making the armor capable of moving 40 miles an hour(which is hardly the powers of the Flash) isn't too much, if you go by movie logic(Please note I said movie logic).
Movie logic, meaning that cars can explode if you shoot them a few times or land perfectly after shooting up a ramp. Or that you can punch someone without breaking your hand, or go through a plate glass window without shredding yourself.
Even when comic movies say they're going "realistic," they never go all the way, and going with what is perceived as such in a military movie set 10 years in the future featuring little-known technology that has advanced to reflect the time passed is tricky.

Sometimes it's the smallest details that I miss the most that are more important than how a costume looks, in some cases that is.
Like Duke's blonde hair. I would've settled for dirty blonde rather than brown. Duke's known for his blonde hair, it's his trademark.
Same as Breaker's beard. He's always had that beard. Why take it away?
Hawks brown flight jacket.
Covergirl's Red-ish brown hair. I'm not diggin' the blonde look.

Of course! I'm traumatized by seeing how they're destroying my "real American heroes", the heroes I loved when I was a kid, is just blasphemy, they suck, Hollywood sucks!
[fanboy mode off] :oldrazz:
Is obvious they're going for the realistic look, at least is not cheesy for the most part, and some people seem to know everything about the movie, who said they're going to wear their battle gear the whole time? :whatever:
I guess they will have them wear military clothes using similar colours of their comics/cartoon versions, who knows. Anyway, fanboys forget that the same whining happened with Bay's Transformers, how he was "destroying their childhood memories" blah blah blah.... :whatever:
Well, it seems the general audience around the world liked it, I didn't because the script was horrible, to each its own.
And last, but not least:
Collider: Fandom seems to think that everyone’s wearing black all the time. So what do you want to tell fandom that they can look forward to? What are they going to be impressed with the costumes and with the look of the film?
Lorenzo: Well, I think our costume designer’s phenomenal and she’s just done a great job in delivering a very varied look. You know, Snake Eyes is a character in black so he would be in black and you know we looked through all the comic books and The Baroness and unless we’re missing something she’s always in black. Every character in the movie is not in black all the way through including - other than Snake Eyes - who has to be in black all the way through. So, you know, there’s multiple looks that for each of those characters that you’ll see them in different color schemes and in different attitudes I’d say.

Why is so hard for you to understand that in the military, all soldiers have the same colours? If you want cheesy, fantasy stories, watch the cartoons or read the comics, when you make live action adaptations, you just can't have all soldiers with different colours and ridiculous, cheesy outfits, leave the silly stuff for cartoons/comics, where it belongs. :whatever:

I think everyone is aware they won't be wearing these suits for the whole movie. After such a positive response to the SE costume, though, it didn't make a lot of sense to show the Joe team all wearing the armor for their first released pics. You can't blame fans for wanting to see the characters in something at least vaguely similar to their usual attire.

I agree that if these are the first pics released, and they're saying they won't be wearing black the whole movie, then why not release pictures where they don't look all the same? Maybe because the civilian clothes probably don't look like the cartoon outfits at all.
I'm thinking most people are familiar with the cartoon and not the comics. And to me, the cartoon outfits were probably one of the more easily translatable into real world design than say, X-men. So why all black? Why God Why?

And yet they were still dragging their feet when it came to supplying current-tech body and vehicle armor for the troops. Most soldiers had to rely on their families to help fund purchasing their armor (which many have yet to be reimbursed for by the gov't).

I don't know if the movie is going to be good or not but I do know that there is no way I can tell that from these pictures. They look like high tech troops ready for battle. So they have a uniform now instead of each their own gear? Big deal.

Actually yeah The Mummy is actually an enjoyable movie I agree but the CGI in it really took it down a big notch. Pretty much every movie Sommers has directed has the worst big budget CGI I have ever witnessed. It just took me out of the movie when I see those cartoony looking characters in the Mummy sorry. Also the sequel blew and so did the Scorpion King. Why they made a spinoff movie I will never know. Van Helsing is a shining example of why Sommers is awful. He had everything for success handed to him on a platter. Big budget, amazing cast and awesome concept and characters. Failed on every level.
And I really don't see why Schumacher gets so much hate. Yeah he made ****ty Batman movies but a lot of his other movies are amazing. He just took the wrong approach with Batman and catered to the studios and just focused on something that would sell merchandise. I would trust Schumacher with a movie like this as long as he actually makes a serious movie and not a toy commerical for kiddies that the studio would salivate over.
Sorry for the rant I guess I have the opinion bug stuck up my ass tonight. :o

Snakes Eye looks cool, so does baronness.
But the rest - yuck
Why do I get the feeling that this movie is going to be 'Street Fighter' all over again.
agreed! I don't understand why Duke and Scarlett couldn't have had costumes that slightly resembled their origionals. What would've been uncool about brown and green fatigue stlye armor garb? Are the filmmakers trying to tell us that the American army dresses uncool?
Wow, I guess that means this film is being made by terrorists, it's sad too, becuase I love America, dammit...so much it hurts!

I think it's just that negative people tend to be more vocal than the positive ones. Don't ask me why though. People just love to rant.
Now you know why the internet is so popular.
Its just funny, because I know thats going to be the defense. And it'll be funny because Stephen Sommers, who directed the ludicrous over the top sequences in Van Helsing, will be emphasizing realism in a movie about action figures.
I'm sorry but I'll take this...

I don't think realism will be a viable defense here. They were dressed like soldiers. How can simply dressing like a soldier not be more realistic than these superhero costumes that Sommers is putting everyone in?!

Way too high-tech, and superhero-e for my liking. These guys are supposed to be soldiers from 2008... not Peacekeepers from an episode of Farscape! Damn. The movie looks like it's going to kill off any sort of realism that the fans have been expecting. The "high-tech" weaponry, and equipment suggests either a story set in the future, or a line like -- "unknown to mankind, technology has been developed which are now being used by an elite force of combatants hell-bent on protecting the world."
Either way, it's everything but impressive, imho. :down

*Sigh* As I've repeated time and again, the so called 'superhero costumes' are based on Prototype 2020 (from Natick Soldier Center (http://www.natick.army.mil/)) of the U.S.'s own Future Force Warrior (http://rangermade.us/store/catalog/Army_Technology.php) project but simply made to look 'sleeker'. A preview picture can be seen below (spoiler tag added due to the picture's size):

But they aren't! It's been stated that the movie is supposed to take place about a decade into the future. As for how the 'high tech' gear, they're all currently being actively researched for military implementation.

Cobra Commander I can see wearing black. It would actually fit him and make him look more ominous. Navy blue would work too.
I thought it'd been confirmed, the Joe's wear the black suits for a specific battle, not the entire movie. Why is everyone still acting as if the black suits are it? I'm still much more concerned with the script at this point.

Sexy yeah sure, but she doesn't look like Scarlett to me. I think the black is such a strong look that overpowers the character.
Anyone in all black (or any single color) makes an aesthetic statement and holds more visual weight on screen than someone wearing multiple colors and it takes away from the finite characteristics of the actor's appearance. You are immediately hit with the emotional response of 'wow, all black' but you lose the details like the fact tha tshe's holding a crossbow.
damn, can you tell I went to art school once upon a time or what?

Well I'm not a fan of GI Joe but I think if this movie really is going to be good then most fans will come to accept these uniforms as we get closer to the release date. When Batman fans found out that the Joker would be wearing makeup in The Dark Knight everyone was talking about how bad that movie is going to suck, but now I hardly ever hear people complaining about it. I for one have no problem with these uniforms, but I'm not a big GI Joe fan so I have no preconceived notions of how they should look.

Hardly a fair comparison. Last I checked Nolan's Joker still had white skin, red lips, green hair and wore purple.
Take a look at Destro again.

Take a look at Destro again.I was just trying to make the point that if the movie is good enough, (I know, that's a big IF) most fans will get over the differences, no matter how drastic. And to some Batman fans, the Joker wearing makeup over normal skin instead of having permanently white skin as the result of a chemical accident is like... Spider-man wearing a cape and using grappling hooks instead of shooting webs. Besides, the movie's not out yet and little is known about the plot so who knows what changes might come to the characters during the movie that could cause them to look more the way you want them to.

 but it looks to be a fabulous wreck at least.
It's more the fact that people are writing the movie off as trash based only on the uniforms. I think that's silly...
I don't know if the movie is going to be good or not but I do know that there is no way I can tell that from these pictures. They look like high tech troops ready for battle. So they have a uniform now instead of each their own gear? Big deal.
Gi Joe was awesome when I was a kid and I loved it but I am not going to be avoid the movie because they decided to go with a standard Uniform for the team on combat mission instead of Football jersey's, yellow spandex, and WWII era Kaki's.

Dennis Quaid looks decent as Hawk but why is he wearing a beret, is he in disguise as Flint too?
Tatum looks more like a punk with an attitude rather than the heroic Duke from the cartoon.

hopefully not as closed-minded as you seem to be for jumping to the conclusion that we just stated our judgments without giving it some analytical thought first.
and summing up all the information we have on the movie (the casting, the storyline, the director), we could make a sound judgment on what could possibly be the fate of this movie: it will suck bigtime

Anyone see the hit to miss Ratio? Rant part 1 end.
The movies that made the most money on that list were all sequels. Maybe she should have been hired later on for JLA 2 and GI Joe 2. :oldrazz:
She obviously did a hella-poor job for JLA and GI Joe. You could argue that the JLA casting was even one of the reasons that project is in limbo. It's not just internet fanboys that are giving those two movies a huge WFT, there are numerous articles in the entertainment media that share our thoughts.

maybe it's coz she looks at JLA & GI JOE from a really shallow standpoint...
she probably has NO idea about JLA & GI JOE except probably the idea that
"this one was a cartoon series" and "this one is like Superfriends"
women like this came from the same planet as the bosses responsible for such hits as Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, and Streetfighter

For anyone who still gives a crap about this crap movie or for those who are merely curious about this crap read the following:

And no they're probably not kidding about Destro.

Put a woman, who prob doesn't know a THING about the show, in charge of casting movies involving properties that young boys mainly watch/care about. Well, there goes any hope I have for this lame ass movie.
Look at that list of FAILDOZER movies. Besides the first PotC, she blows smelly ass.

Having the robotic arm does not exclude him from having the chrome dome.

Um, that comment abpout the robotic arm is in regards to the cartoon, G.I. Joe: Resolute, not the upcoming movie.

Wow, thats all I gotta say. Why black? No classic Joe? Horrible. Snake Eyes, of course looks how he should, but come on. And where the hell is Wet-Suit?

I feel so sad about this movie. I want all of the money my mom spent on GI Joe actionfigures, vehicles and playsets during the 80's retroactively paid back to my family, becuase this film has shattered my love of the Joe.
JK, but seriously, this movie scares me!

I think you guys need to expand your viewing appreciation- there are some really great movies in that list and a lot of oscar nominations. There are only 2 sequels listed - they are not as strong as their predessors, made less money - storyline was the greatest issue here, not casting.
Casting is only as good as the director and producers final choice. This list of films provides no weight to your argument - if anything it weakens it because of the quality of a number of the movies.
