Okay, so check it out.
I've got this really boring ass desk job doing some really boring ish.
The cool thing is, I get paid for it. PLUS I get to listen to music all day long! And, being that as it may, I'm always on the lookout for new music.
With that in mind, I want you, the classy citizens of Hype Land, to recommend me some albums to listen to while I am working for the man. And if I decide to check out a recommended album, I will come back the next day to review it.
But I do have some restrictions:
- No hardcore death metal nonsense. That's for the birds.
- No country, unless the singer is really really hot. Because the attractiveness of the artist actually does make a difference.
- No Nickelback
- No house/techno babble that don't got no words
So yeah. Go. :)

I'm going to reccomend some Slayer, some Hank Williams Sr., Nickelbacks debut album, and The Crystal Method :o
Seriously though...NIN's new album, The Slip, is pretty good...and it's free, can't go wrong wtih that. As far as hotty country singers go, Michelle Branchs group, The Wreckers are actually pretty damn good.

Jamiroquai - High Times (Singles 1992-2006)
Let me say something about this album. I love Jamiroquai; to death. I have every album.
But this greatest hits record blows. They trimmed pretty much every song, cutting out a ton of the breakdowns and grooves that make the Jamiroquai sound what it is. Songs like "Don't Give Hate A Chance" aren't allowed a chance to breathe, and it completely kills the entire record. Though, I did like both of the new tracks "Radio" and "Runaway". But whatevs.

Some recommedations, I have quite a varied music taste
Black Kids- Dancey Indie Pop music. Download Hurricane Jane and I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You.
The Cool kids- Old Skool hip hop mixed with a little neptunes style production. Download Black Mags, I Rock, 88, Action Figures and Gold And a Pager.
Does It Offend You, Yeah?- Worst band name ever! but they make quite good dance rock. Download Let's Make Out, With A Heavy Heart and We Are Rockstars.
Ebony Bones- Hard to describe. Like an electro, tribal, punk rock Lil Kim with crazy make up and costumes. Timberland is a fan her stuff. Download
We Know All About You
Friendly Fires- If you like Jamiroquai and The Killers Hot Fuss album you should like these guys! Download On Board and Paris.
Hadouken- Best band name and they make Nu Metal, Electro, Grime music. Download That Boy That Girl and The Bounce.
The Fratellis- stright forward 70s pub rock and roll. Very catchy tunes. Download Baby Fratelli, Chelsea Dagger and Flathead.
Mystery Jets- Dancey80'sstyle guitar music (2nd album, the first wasn't that good IMO). Its like every good band from the 80s in one! a bit Police, a bit the Cure, a bit Duran Duran, a bit George Micheal, a bit Phil Collins. Download Hideaway, Two Doors Down, Half In Love With Elizabeth and Veiled In Grey.
Jack Penate- Poppy guitar white soul ska music. Download Spit At Stars, Torn On The Platform, Have I Been A Fool and Second, Minute or Hour.
Jamie T- Reggae, Rap, Punk, Folk and indie. He manages to mix them all and make it work. Plus Bob Hoskins is in his music video. Download If You Got The Money, Shelia, Calm Down Dearest.
The Kills- Not a fan of their previous albums which are lo-fi garage rock. Girl/guy combo there newish album Midnight Boom is really good. Hip Hop stlye drum machine beats, sexy female vocals and cool guitar riffs.
Download Cheap And Cheerful, URA Fever, Sour Cherry and Last Days Of Magic.
Sam Sparro- Prince style electro funk and a voice like a white stevie wonder. Download Black And Gold.
The Wombats- PopPunk (non American style variety) from Liverpool. Download Kill The Director, Moving To New York and School Uniforms.
Wiley/Dizze Rascal- Grime/Rap artists. Download Wearing My Rolex, Rolex Sweep, Fix Up Look Sharp, Sirens, Oldskool.

The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
Definitely pick this one up, along with their debut album "Broken Boy Soldiers." I saw them at Terminal 5 in New York last night and it was one of the best shows I've been to in a long time
Other recommendations:
The National, "Boxer" - The singer's low voice may sound strange when you first listen to this but I promise it's worth sticking around for the entire album. Songs to download: "Mistaken for Strangers" "Slow Show"
Black Keys, "Attack & Release" - the Black Keys get compared to the White Stripes really often because they're also a two piece garage rock group but they have a sound all their own that's worth checking out. Songs to Download: "Strange Times" "Lies"
R.E.M., "Accelerate" - A true return to form for R.E.M. and a solid album all around. Songs to download: "Supernatural Superserious" "Man-Sized Wreath"
The Hold Steady, "Boys and Girls in America" - One of my favorite albums of all time. Great bar band type sound. Songs to download: "Massive Nights" "Chill Out Tent"
Arctic Monkeys, "Whatever People Say I am, That's What I Am Not" - Cool sound from one of the biggest up and coming bands in England. Songs to download: "Mardy Bum" "From the Ritz to the Rubble"
Against Me!, "New Wave" - Many fans say that this punk band sold out with this album, but that doesn't change the fact that it's incredible. Songs to download: "Thrash Unreal" "Animal"
The Black Lips, "Good Bad Not Evil" - A really energetic, fun garage album to just rock out to. Songs to download: "Veni Vini Vici" "O Katrina!"
The Who "Odds and Sods" - A collection of rarities, b sides and outtakes from The Who that may also be one of their best albums. Songs to download: "Leaving Here" "Love Ain't For Keeping (previously unreleased version)"

Under The Blacklight
Recommended by: lemmasaurus
Cmill's Rating: AVERAGE
The first half of this album really impressed me with its diversity. Funk rock vibes, dance pop tinged tracks, synths blending with bluesy guitars. I was digging it. But the second half of the album fell off, for me.
Song Notes
“THE MONEYMAKER” – VERY CATCHY FUNK ROCK JAM
“BREAKIN’ UP” – REALLY ALLURING KEYBOARD SPLASHES, GREAT HOOK, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE BACKING VOCALS
“DREAMWORLD” – GREAT GREAT GREAT TRACK, LOVED THE MELLOWED OUT VOCALS AND GUITARS, ENDING WITH A GREAT PROGRESSION OF SYNTH LAYERS. BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM SO FAR
“DEJALO” – A BIZARRELY ENTERTAINING MIXTURE OF 80S DANCE POP AND ISLAND FLAVOR; A POPPY NO DOUBT VIBE, KINDA LIKE WHAT GWEN STEFANI COULD HAVE BEEN IF SHE KEPT SOME OF HER SKA INFLUENCES WHEN SHE WENT SOLO
“15”, “SMOKE DETECTOR”, “THE ANGELS HUNG AROUND” – DIPPING INTO COUNTRY/BLUES ROCK FLAVOR WITH MIXED RESULTS, LYRICALLY THEY’RE AVERAGE AT BEST. JUST AREN’T VERY MEMORABLE.
“GIVE A LITTLE LOVE” – ALBUM ENDS WITH AN APPEALING AND SUPER CATCHY PURE 80S MID-TEMPO NUMBER, BUT IT’S AN ODD WAY TO BOOKEND THE ALBUM WITH THIS AFTER A STRING OF SONGS THAT SWUNG TOWARDS ALTERNATIVE BLUES
So, yeah. Overall, there were some really strong moments on this record. Rilo Kiley can cook up some damn good songs when they're on. But the album doesn't flow all that well, for me.
Hot Tracks:
“Dreamworld”, “Breakin’ Up”, “Dejalo”
Reverse Recommendation:
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m236/cmill216/B00062OHD802LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Daniel Bedingfield
Second First Impression
After a near fatal car crash, Natasha's older brother followed up his debut smash Gotta Get Thru This with this underappreciated pop gem. This album is all over the map, but Bedingfield's razor sharp songwriting and ear for undeniable melodies make this schizophrenic collection work. There's hints of U2 ("The Way"), Enrique ("Show Me The Real You"), and contemporary R&B painted throughout the record, and Bedingfield fits each mold well. But it's the softer moments, like the acoustic demo "Draw You" that really cement his place as one of modern pop's best.

Live It Out
Recommended by: Dr. Watson
Cmill's Rating: GOOD
I added this album this morning before heading out, based on what little I read about it on Wikipedia. Plus the cover looked neat. :O
But damn. I was really impressed by this record. A really slick piece of post-punk.
Song Notes:
“EMPTY” – WHAT STARTS OUT AS A MOODY ELECTRONICA TINTED TRACK, EXPLODES INTO PURE POP/ROCK BEFORE BREAKING BACK DOWN INTO CROONING AND MELODIC GUITAR STRUMMING. A REALLY STRONG OPENING TRACK.
“GLASS CEILING” AND “HANDSHAKES” – HARD NEW WAVE VIBE, REALLY GROOVY AND APPEALING
“TOO LITTLE TOO LATE” AND “POSTER OF A GIRL” – TERRIFICLY INTERPOL-ISH NEW WAVE TRACKS, WITH THE CREEPY COOL BACKDROP OF THE LATTER DEFTLY COMPLIMENTING THE LEAD SINGER’S HAUNTING VOCALS
“MONSTER HOSPITAL” – ‘I FOUGHT THE WAR BUT THE WAR WON’ = BEST LINE OF THE ALBUM
THE ALBUM BOGS DOWN TOWARDS THE END WITH A FEW GENERIC POST-PUNK NUMBERS, BUT THEIR SOLID ENOUGH.
This was a really solid disc. Take Interpol, throw in a chick, and add in a few radio-friendly pop/rock moments, and that's pretty much what you've got here. I'll definitely take a look at what else in the Metric catalog. I is a fan. :)
Hot Tracks:
“Too Little Too Late”, “Handshakes”, “Poster Of A Girl”
Reverse Recommendation:
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m236/cmill216/hollybrooklikebloodlikemb5.jpg

Like Blood Like Honey
A rock solid acoustic pop/folk record. Holly's voice is incredibly pleasing to the ear, and her songwriting is consistently strong.

.....Bump for the next page. :cmad:
(Let me preface the following by saying that the ish I wrote down under "Song Notes" was written as I was listening to the tracks at work. So sorry for the caps, peoples.)

Rilo Kiley
Under The Blacklight

Cmill's Rating: AVERAGE
The first half of this album really impressed me with its diversity. Funk rock vibes, dance pop tinged tracks, synths blending with bluesy guitars. I was digging it. But the second half of the album fell off, for me.

Cmill's Rating: GOOD
I added this album this morning before heading out, based on what little I read about it on Wikipedia. Plus the cover looked neat. :O
But damn. I was really impressed by this record. A really slick piece of post-punk.

Holly Brook
Like Blood Like Honey
A rock solid acoustic pop/folk record. Holly's voice is incredibly pleasing to the ear, and her songwriting is consistently strong.

Easily my favourite rapper. I'm always super happy when others mention him, since he's not so well known. Though he should be. I'm hoping to go see him in Detroit in July.
yeah i'm a big technique fan. his songs make you think and i prefer that to "booty rap" more often than not.

i've a couple Holly Brook tracks. She's pretty decent imo, but i've never heard a whole album.
Check out Brandi Carlile. She's not too well known, but I like her stuff. They're kinda similar styles.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not with this, but I actually strongly reccomend everyone listen to this album at least once. Manson wasn't that bad of a guitar player/singer when he wanted, and it's really interesting to hear these songs that, if you didn't know better, would never have guessed were written by a mass murderer.

Though technically he didn't kill anyone

Yes he did, he wasn't convicted for it though. The other main male of the cult told prosocuters a story about how him and Manson took a third guy out to the desert, Manson shot him in the head, and then they buried his body in lye. Read Helter Skelter sometime, it's pretty interesting.

London Calling - The Clash
So good, you just HAVE to mention it twice.;)
And thanks Bullet, I try.:word:
Here's a few more.
Winds of Change - Eric Burdon and the Animals
S.F Sorrow - The Pretty Things
Innuendo - Queen (Last album before Freddy died, and I swear, in places they sound like the Floyd...speaking of which...)
The Final Cut - Pink Floyd (Acquired taste, but if you are big on crazy arrangements and slicing lyrics, a.k.a, The Wall, you'll love this)
Ram, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard - Paul McCartney
Plastic Ono Band - John Lennon
Cloud Nine, Brainwashed - George Harrison
Goodnight Vienna - Ringo Starr (I had to include him...I felt bad if I left him out)
Odessey & Oracle - The Zombies (Pop that rivals even The Beatles)

I love that album. They are one the most underrated of the 60s invasion bands. Great tunes. The movie Dear Wendy's soundtrack is made up of their songs.
Black Keys, "Attack & Release" - the Black Keys get compared to the White Stripes really often because they're also a two piece garage rock group but they have a sound all their own that's worth checking out. Songs to Download: "Strange Times" "Lies"
Arctic Monkeys, "Whatever People Say I am, That's What I Am Not" - Cool sound from one of the biggest up and coming bands in England. Songs to download: "Mardy Bum" "From the Ritz to the Rubble"
I really like the Black Keys although I liked Magic Potion more than Strange Times. Strange Times is still good though.
Question. How popular are Arctic Monkeys in the states?
They are huge in the UK and big in europe, Japan and some South American coutries I think.

I'm glad you liked Metric Cmill! Their other albums are just as tight so I strongly recomend checking them out. I'll give Holly Brooks a listen to when I have a chance.

They are really popular in Canada, I can tell you that. Their last show here was sold out in about a day.

The Arctic Monkeys are popular amongst music fans in the States but they don't get like radio airplay or notoriety on channels like MTV.
Then again, I wouldn't really want to see them on MTV or on pop radio over here.

Rubber Factory is still my favorite album of theirs, and "10 a.m. Automatic" my favorite song, but I'm loving Attack & Release because of the new sound that Danger Mouse brought to their stuff in his production. I'm not sure I can really describe it, but I feel that he brought a lot to the table.
Magic Potion is also pretty sweet though.
The Black Keys are playing a show at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn later this summer and hopefully I'll get to check them out there

This one is a long shot only because it's a European release but I always recommend Tarja's My Winter Storm album. It has so much variety you always hear something new every time you listen to it.
