Good job DrLee, last year i had the same task, hard keeping up with everything. What i did was i constantly updated the first post so it would all be on the first page and the rest would be comments from us.

Jail Break of Megatron?

Slashfilm, in reporting about 20 Transformers in TF II, slipped in a rumor from one of their readers involving shooting at the Eastern State Penitentiary near Philadelphia. Apparently the use of scale models of Megatron, Optimus Prime and Starscream where used in the scouting. Does this mean the return of Megatron or they just using his model just for scaling purposes? What will the old prison be used for?

“My girlfriend works at Eastern State Penitentiary in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia. It was used as a prison from 1829 until 1971, and is now a historical site and museum. Anyway, at the prison today producers for Transformers 2 were on site with scale models of Megatron, Optimus Prime and Star Scream and were scouting filming locations in cell block 1 and the prison kitchen. Just thought I’d let people know that filming should begin here soon.”

Bethlehem Day 2 Rainy and Muted

Jason H has provided another set report from Bethlehem Steel. He reports that it has been raining for most of the day and night so they where unable to shoot the planned explosions for the film and probably effected helicopter flights. The NEST Hummers where seen driving around and some filming occurred at the site (things where lit up and movement all around) but Bethlehem residents probably had a good nights sleep with little noise.

Strange vehicle my hairy white ass. It's an H3 (possibly made up a little bit) with a mini-gun on top. I've seen the gun on Mythbusters before. It's the same kind you see on the side of a Blackhawk helo.

New set report involving two new vehicles (well actually 3). Anyways it sounds really interesting. It may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.Ok, Here's the background. I was sitting out around 4:00 am when a guy comes walking across the bridge. He was wearing a TF2 crew ID tag. Turns out he was security going home for the night. I ask him if they were going to shoot any more scenes since it's raining. He says there is going to be one more in which a Hummer in a military convoy is flipped over and a firefight ensues. This is fairly consistent with what it seemed like they were shooting for the final shot of the day later on.

Anyway this is the info I got from the guy.

He has seen several new transformers including a red Acura NSX, a grey and black Audi RS6, and an old looking Chinese ice cream truck with a domed top and ice cream scoop on the roof that he said will split into two twin Autobots. One of the guys who I was standing on the bridge with had seen an ice cream truck like this driving around the set doing what looked like practice runs.

Shooting will be extended into Thursday, most likely due to the bad weather we've been having.

Megan Fox has scenes that she will be shooting with Tyrese on Wednesday the 4th in which they are chased up stairs that run along the side of the blast furnace.

Shia will be in town to film scenes on Thursday

Overall the guy said that a good chunk of the movie is taking place here.

These are just rumors but I would say that they are somewhat believable, especially if people start seeing Shia or Megan around town.

I find the idea of the ICe Cream Truck pretty darn funny. I highly doubt the bots who scanned will be staying like that for the rest of the movie. Field trip = movie star signatures
Ok. I guess this is BIG enough news to make me post.

I picked up Pumpkin Girl from her Tae Kwon Do class. She was giddy as a school girl (she's 9 after all). Anyway, her class and the rest of the 4th graders in her school had their science field trip at this "awesome" Smithsonian Institution. She got Shia LaBeouf's signature on her science packet. Michael Bay signed her packet as well as her t-shirt. She's never going to let me wash that shirt. ;-) She was a bit disappointed not to get a glimpse of Megan Fox. My wife went out to the Udvar-Hazy branch of the Smithsonian Air & Space museum today with a friend of hers, and saw filming for "Transformers 2" - which apparently involved a lot of filming of the Blackbird (SR-71) they have out at the museum. There as a model/prop of one of the transformers, and they saw the director (Michael Bay?) and some of the actors.

Also, parking was free (paid for by Dreamworks).

She didn't bring a camera, so no pictures - sorry

Nah - she didn't know that there was any filming going on out there - she and her friend just went to gawk at the airplanes and stuff.

As an aside - she told me that some visitors were actually pissed off, because the filming meant that you couldn't get close to some of the exhibits - like the Blackbird, which is one of the coolest things there (after the Enola Gay, perhaps).

I can understand that - it's nice of the Smithsonian to allow filming there, but they could have let them film AFTER the museum closes at 5:30, instead of inconveniencing all the visitors - especially on a Saturday during the summer.

They are filming at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson at the Boneyard as well. AMARC to be exact. I also heard there was some filming of road block or whatever the black kodiac truck was called at Sedona AZ as well.

I could easily see into the set and they even moved everything from one side of the museum to the other. They were using remote controled cars for the robots. Saw Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox and Micheal Bay. Might go back tommorow too see a part of the museum they had blocked off. In the G1 cartoon, Jetfire was only a Decepticon because he lost his memory and was swayed over.

He then realized that he was not a Decepticon and ripped the symbol off and put the Autobot symbol on.

I think it's going to work out something like that, but I think he's going to be an Autobot spy.....then somewhere near the climax, he turns to reveal he is an Autobot.

This was also sort of the case in the marvel comic (Issue 11), Buster used the creation matrix to take control of Jetfire. After Prime gets the matrix back Jetfire becomes an Autobot.

The exact schedule is not know but locations they plan on hitting over the next week or so is PECO Power Plant (http://www.oldchesterpa.com/peco.htm) along the Delaware River, the University of Pennsylvania (http://transformerslive.blogspot.com/2008/06/transformers-at-upenn-in-june.html), and Eastern State Penitentiary (http://transformerslive.blogspot.com/2008/06/jail-break-of-megatron.html). My understanding is that production will hit UPENN either the 11th or 12th but how long they will be there and what is occurring before and after is not known. The picture is from this site (http://www.oldchesterpa.com/peco.htm), which is just a guess on the location they are referring to as the PECO Power Plant.

The production crew is in Philly for those concerned, if any of you live close by get those happy snaps crackin' :trans:

New reports-


Transformers 2 was in South Philly's Italian Market to shoot scenes for the movie and Powet.tv (http://powet.tv/2008/06/10/on-set-with-transformers-2-in-philadelphia/) has the write up with pics as taken by Philly's Josh Landow.

Filming took place at inside Cappucelli's Meats (a butcher shop) on Kimball Street between 8th and 9th streets. Spotted at the location were Bay, Shia Labeouf, Megan Fox, and John Turturro. He did not spot any Transformer vehicles however. What cars on the street where for background of the scene going on inside the shop. Of note is a sign inside the shop that said "Cuppucci & Simmons". I guess the ex-Sector 7 agent couldn't find a better job after the agency was dissolved, but I bet he kept some of their toys.

I was just crossing the Ben Franklin Bridge and they were filming a chase seen with Bumblebee and the Small Green car. I was driving and could not get my camera out in time for pics.

A rather strange set report here.... Looks like some guy got himself thrown off the set....

A tipster sends word today of trouble having befallen the Philadelphia set of Transformers 2 (http://defamer.com/tag/transformers-2/), where an extra was reportedly thrown off the shoot for conduct detrimental to the blockbuster. To wit: Reginald Brown, a regular contributor to Transformers producer Don Murphy (http://defamer.com/tag/don-murphy/)'s dysfunctional message boards, had nabbed the plum role of "Man Eating Hamburger" in one of the film's action sequences. Then, under his nom de fanboy Hedgehog, Brown filed a dispatch from wardrobe (http://www.donmurphy.net/board/showthread.php?t=26111):I took a glance at the clothing racks for SHIA and MEGAN too. I think I saw some really cool clothes for some character, then I saw MILITARY UNIFORMS then other clothing that the main characters were wearing. I like the jacket that SHIA is going to wear, it looks like something I would buy.Whatever, right? Even Murphy himself shrugged (http://www.donmurphy.net/board/showpost.php?p=1180095&postcount=272): "Reg didn't sign [a non-disclosure agreement] to be on here ... If you think Reg is gonna have access to anything meaningful except a PB&J sandwich you're as confused as he seems to be." I just got back, it was crazy down there. I was around 36th and Spruce and I guess they were filming inside, because the entire back of the building was blacked out. Also caught the Black Cayenne being unloaded from the truck. No cast though, I didn't get there till late, hopefully I get over there tomorrow again.

Quick set report of the images i just posted in the pics thread....

Yesterday, J Fuller reported (with video) (http://transformerslive.blogspot.com/2008/06/party-scene-shia-and-bumblebee-in.html) of filming outside the Drexel main building with Shia and a girl in green. The girl turns out to be Isabel Lucas, playing Alice. Movie Chronicles (http://transformers.moviechronicles.com/2008-06/isabel-lucas-and-shia-at-upenn-frat-party/) has provided additional pictures (from zacklur) of Isabel. The scene involves Bumblebee doing a 180 degree turn (video below from Jszack) as I suspect Shia tries to pick her up. The two briefly speak and she stomps away with some greenish goo on her right shoulder. Perhaps Bumblebee is not taking a liking to someone invading Mikaela's turf?


Also there's this....

From various anonymous sources (thanks) comes a possible shoot schedule with many gaps. Exact addresses are unknown nor are times and for how long. I just have potential locations. I am not entirely sure but I think the University of Pennsylvania part of the shoot is now complete.

Hey Rob,
I wanted to get back to you on Transformers 2 here. It's a story of being at the right place at the right time. My son had an overdue book that I needed to return to the library and the library we took it out from is located on the Ben Franklin Parkway, not too far from the Art Museum where Rocky Balboa ran. I turn the corner to the street where the library's located and I'm met with about half a dozen tractor trailers. I was like what's all this? Then I see spotlights and I'm like wait a minute. I look at the door on the truck and sure enough there's a "Property of Paramount Pictures" sticker real big on the door. I went into a Frenzy (no pun intended!).

I quickly see the crew are wearing orange tags with an Autobot symbol & the #2 right next to it. At this point I'm losing it all over the place. They're filming inside the library!! So I go in here the shooting hadn't started yet. They didn't re-arrange the library but they have the 2nd floor all draped off but they were still letting you up there. My family & go up there & There's lights and cables everywhere. So whatever was going to happen in this scene will take place on the 2nd floor of the Free Library of Philadelphia's main branch.

This was this afternoon. In the evening we went back to see if anything changed or if any of the cars were in place. By this point some filming was being done and picture taking was cut off. I was told one actress in a long blue gown went into the library. It was like a prom or wedding gown. It was only me and 2 other people at this point watching what was going on inside. I really couldn't see anything. But a really cool security guard struck up conversation w/us. He told us they weren't finishing the scene so I might go back on Monday. He also went on to tell us about a chase scene that was filmed the previous Friday right on East River Drive. He didn't know the names of the cars but by his description it was Ironhide, Bumblebee, and Prime in pursuit of some silver car. He said this silver car is nothing like what's out there now and didn't even know the make on it. He said it's really slick & looks way cool. But he said the chase scene is way cool especially for people who live in the city here. He said there's 3 wks left of filming in Philadelphia.

I did take pictures but I don't think they'd be anything you guys would be interested in. It was really all the trucks parked along Vine Street & the lights inside the library. Even though I didn't really get to see anything, this was so cool for me. I've been a fan for 20yrs now since Gen. 1 and it just blew me away. I plan to go on Monday.

Center City actress Sylvia Kauders is the kind of gal who does kiss and tell. Last week, after they'd shot a scene in a South Philly deli for Transformers 2, Shia LaBeouf gave her a kiss - "because I am talented and rich," says Kauders, who ranks among Philly's more seasoned actors.

Transformers 2 cameras and crew have been all over (Fairmount Park, University of Pennsylvania) and today are due inside Eastern State Penitentiary, while Rittenhouse Square will double as Paris later this week. Saturday is the scheduled Philly wrap; next stop: Princeton.

Based on information received here and there, Transformers 2 production is now finished in Philadelphia as of yesterday. The next stop is Princeton, New Jersey for the next 3 or so days. Exact number is unknown.

As for New York, when and where they are shooting remains unknown. So far I have not heard anything that indicates if its still in the schedule or not. A hiatus in the shoot is scheduled to start June 30th (thanks to the probable SAG strike) so if it’s going to occur it has to be late this week. Time (and leaks) will tell.

Back to Princeton, for the last several weeks Sunday has been the day of rest for the stars and the day the production crew packs things up and moves to the next location. Based on several reports I have already received it looks like they are already on the Princeton campus and begun some preprep. Emily has reported that she has spotted crew prepping McCosh 50 (classroom scene), Mathey Common Room and Holder Quad (dorm). She also saw a news copter doing a flyover, possible to capture some footage? David reported seeing the 'E7' signs along Faculty Road which appears to be base camp as he spotted trucks, trailers and cops guarding the area.

Hopefully full details will start to come out but there you go at least some indication that TF2 has made landfall at Princeton University. Thanks to Emily and David for their info.

Ultra Magnus was a temporary leader.Hot Rod was the [so called] chosen one.

Magnus was just givin the mantel of leadership till the next Autobot leader appeared....which was Hot Rod who then became Rodimus Prime.

Set report from the Princeton shoot....Link in the Pics thread

.......filming at Princeton University campus today on Washington and Williams Street. He reports that the scene involves Sam running across the campus while on his cell phone wearing a blue shirt and carrying his things. Shia can be seen in pics 3 and 4, Michael Bay in pics 7 and 8. He also reports that a stunt was filmed that involved a 2009 Saturn crashing into a lamb post and putting a hole in the front window. Mark also sent in a report seeing the same thing:
I work in Princeton and just watched the TF2 crew crash a silver Saturn Astra into the installed lamppost on the corner of Washington Road and William Street around 2 p.m. today. Before the crash itself they ran a few "test crashes," where the stunt driver screeched to a halt a foot or two before hitting the post, with the camera (on a boom) following the action from above. The actual crash knocked the ground-level cover off the post and ripped off the car's front bumper. After the crash the driver backed up slightly, then drove forward again for a few feet with the bumper under the front wheels, then stopped, opened the driver's side door, and fell to the ground. After the shot was over, the driver put the bumper in the car's backseat and drove the car down Washington Road (headed south), and as it passed me I could see that the front windshield had a hole the size of a baseball in it (with the appropriate spider webbing pattern in the surrounding glass). I'm not sure if that was there before the crash or not (I was about two blocks away from the crash itself). According to one of the PA's the next shot won't happen until tonight, though she didn't say where.

Set report from Day 2.... No pics yet..

The TF2 crew was shooting at Holder Hall this morning until about 1:30. The scene they were shooting today ended with Shia, Megan, and Ramon running out of the building into the courtyard, which they shot several times. Once, they ran out into the courtyard, hooked each others’ arms at the elbow, and did a little dance (clearly trying to alleviate some of the boredom of doing the exact same thing over and over). Isabel Lucas was visible at one point, but I couldn’t tell if she was involved in the shot.

Once the principals were done, the crew shot a group of about 20-30 student extras running into and out of the dorm’s western entryway (the same one that Shia, Megan, and Ramon had run out of). It was pretty funny to watch the extras run, because they were being funneled in and out of the doorway in a big circle, so the kids that had just run out of the building would circle around and run back in until the shot was over. In both cases the crew used a smoke machine in the dorm’s northwest hallway, which was visible from one of the windows.

While the extras were being shot, Shia and Ramon threw a football around in the building’s courtyard for a while. The security guards and local policemen who were guarding the main archways of the building (where the rest of the gawkers and I were standing) were very strict about pictures today. They waved off anyone who even took a cell phone out of his or her pocket. Around 1:30 the crew broke for lunch and relocated to Whig Hall, where catering had been set up.

Michael Bay walked into the building with Isabel, then came back out and sat on the building’s front steps drinking a Diet Coke and talking to one of the crew. A few minutes later Isabel came back outside with some food and Michael joined her and one other crewmember for lunch on the steps. Not long after that security started dispersing the small crowd that had gathered on the lawn opposite the front of the building.

The Times has posted an article about Transformers 2 productions presence on campus with brief interviews with extras and Michael Bay. The article also revealed a little bit on what the shoot is about. Also it said that today will be the final day of shooting on the campus. The next destination (if there is one) is unknown. "I thought the school was going to freak out and did a little" before accepting the crash shots, Bay said yesterday during a brief interview.

In another shot at Princeton's Dillon Gymnasium, he and co-star Megan Fox are among dozens of students fleeing the building into a courtyard and parking lot ahead of some yet-to-be-revealed menace.

And while filming here is officially a closed set, hundreds of onlookers for the last two days lined the perimeter of some of the scenes -- though they were periodically instructed to keep quiet and take no pictures.

For a time yesterday afternoon, the area outside Dillon Gymnasium was the place to be for a glimpse of the celebrities and a chance to see the cameras rolling.

The university angle to the plot "is all about Sam growing up and going to college ... a teenager growing into a man," Bay said.

As the battle continues in the second film, LaBeouf and Fox reprise their roles. Although both characters have grown from high school- to college-age since the first "Transformers" installment, only LaBeouf's Witwicky is off to college because Fox's Banes can't afford school, Bay said.

With Witwicky enrolled at a fictional East Coast school with an Ivy League feel, Banes comes from Los Angeles as a visitor to her friend's new campus, Bay said.Not much is revealed but now know how Mikeala and Sam hook up before the latest Transformers adventure kicks off.
