With the NBA and NHL both having marquee match ups in the finals. My friend asked if it was all planned. This is not a thread about questionable calls. It's about the end result. What things in sports seemed to good to true, or happened for a reason and why. What myths and rumors have you heard.
- The Red Sox only won the World Series in 2004 to promote the movie Fever Pitch.
- Jordan's retirement was a cover up for his gambling suspension
-Kimbo Slice only won the fight because he was the leagues golden boy.

The movie Fever Pitch was supposed to be about the Red Sox losing in the playoffs. Then as they kept winning, the producers had to change the script.

I still like the crap I hear that the Patriots only won the Super Bowl in 01 because the government wanted them to win after 9/11. :o :whatever:

I thought it was because the league wanted a team with a patriotic name to win the Bowl, with a Patriotic theme. And they totally helped them through the playoffs, with the Tuck and whatnot.
The crap I always heard is that good 'ol Uncle Sam stepped in and made sure the Pats made it to the Super Bowl.

NFL Gods allowed the Pats to come within 2 minutes of 19-0 only to snatch it away and break all the fans hearts and crush their dreams that seemed almost real enough to touch because they cheated :o

Way late on this (:woot:), but the Curse of William Penn is simple:
There is a statue of William Penn standing atop City Hall in Philadelphia. For many, many years, it was the tallest structure in the city. Penn was able to look out over the Delaware River. Then, from 1985-87, the skyscraper One Liberty Place was constructed. Ever since William Penn's view of the Delaware River was obstructed, no major league sports team in Philadelphia has won a championship. The final championship was in 1983 (the 76ers), two years before construction began on One Liberty Place.

Two I can think of are Ruth's 'Called Shot', and Chamberlain's 20,000 boast.

Not to be a cynic and plus i'm a die-hard Pistons fan but Isiah's ''sprained'' ankle heroics..anyone who has had a sprained ankle will know that's impossible to even try and move you leg while you're sitting...let alone jumping up and down the court.
It's really a fabricated situation...maybe he stepped a little uncomfortably and made it until the end of the game which is absolutelly nothing out of the ordinary and doesnt deserve to be highlighted every single time his name is mentioned...but a sprained ankle?
Hell-to-the-no.
