The only little problem I see in that picture is that fact that the fire looks so fake. I mean it looks as though someone copy and pasted a flame on the picture. It may be just me, but I know they were going for a low-budget look to the whole thing, with the whole B-movie deaths and all, but every thing I seen so far with flames, look really really fake. I wish they would of atleast shade it in darker so it didn't pop out so much to notice it was fake.

Who said I hate it? I am actually looking forward to it. I just gave my opinion on how a freakin' picture looked, and I'm getting bashed for it. I can't wait to see Stevenson kick a**. Oh and dude, for the record, I am not hanging on a board of a movie I hate. I will love this movie. I am just saying my opinion on the fake fire in the picture (which a forum is for, opinions), just like I read people crying over how someone's hair isn't the same as in the comics, or something stupid like that.

I know he wears a trenchcoat in the movie at some point (if you go to the gallery section on the website, it's in the background), but does anyone know if he wears a skull shirt at anytime, or is the skull just for his body armor? Please no bashing, I really don't know and hope that this forum is a friendly place to share concerns, ideas, and opinions about a movie hopefully we all can't wait for.

The new pic looks badass! The only problem I have with it is the ceramic tile in the back looks a bit cheap and fake. very cut and paste CGI kitchen ceramic tile isnt necessary...the fire looks cool though i must admit. and i dont like the way the two little blue balls of light on the pillar look. not very organic. and what's with the skull? i cant see it!!! other than that the pic looks great!

It's cool you guys. It was just a concern of mine. No I don't think the fire in that pic alone is 100% fake, but do you guys know what I mean about how fake that explosion was at the end of one of the trailers where he shoots into the room full of guys? I was just worried that the whole movie would have crappy CGI flames and explosions. That's all. I'm cool, so hopefully we are. Now can we talk Punisher and how Ray is going to kick some a**?
Microchip
10-27-2008, 05:16 PM
I think we all agree the explosion looks bad when he fires the grenade in. However, it's a really quick clip. I think the other explosions we see in various trailers look good enough, so hopefully that one won't kill the movie. I can see how explosion after explosion looking like that would probably do so though.

Haha I don't have Mother Russia, so I haven't seen that before. That is so totally Thomas Jane. Bradstreet must really love the guy. I suppose that any other studio can't use him though, since Marvel owns the rights to Nick Fury?
Balthus Dire
11-05-2008, 12:21 AM
Bradstreet put Jane on the cover as Fury because Tom O'Brien already plays Frank on the Bradstreet covers, but wanted to work Jane in there somehow since he was the movie Punisher and all.
As for the movie, if it's ever done Marvel will do it with Sam Jackson as Fury. I would much rather they didn't go with the stupid Ultimate Fury, but whatever. To be honest, I think Fury works much better as a secondary character anyway, and I can't see an entire movie about him being anything special.
Microchip
11-05-2008, 12:26 AM
Oh, I doubt they'd give him an entire movie. Sam Jackson is the kind of name that could do a full movie like that though, and if they made it a spy thriller in the Bourne/James Bond style with a Marvel twist, it could be a cool thing.
However, I'm assuming it'll just be for the Avengers movie.

They are friends and have a comic/film company together on top of Tom being used as the current cover model for Criminal Macabre. I think after his ordeal with the Punisher sequel he's probably done playing comic book characters.

I really hope he controls himself for most of the movie. I like West as well and don't want to see him ham it up every damn scene.
It wasn't that bad in the script that I can remember. But the line delivery of such lines like "Welcome, welcome, welcome' and "Let's play a game" came off pretty hammy.
At least to me.

S. Grundy
11-08-2008, 03:54 PM
Just because he was kinda hammy in the comics, doesn't mean it needs to be replicated in the film. I don't recall the Joker ever being an anarchist in the comics and that worked out pretty well in the film.
Also, the Russian he was spouting out cheesy one liners in the comic and the fact he didn't do it in the movie didn't take anything away from the character.

I was just punctuating the point that if a character has acted a certain way in a comic, doesn't necessarily mean they need to do it for a film.
Microchip
11-08-2008, 05:24 PM
But it doesn't make it automatically bad if they DO act that way. I think you're reading in to West's comment that he's playing Jigsaw as a comedy. He also said he wants to make him sufficiently terrifying.
And can you honestly say that they've never made the Joker anarchiac in the comics? The guy who causes random violence and regularily offs his own cronies? I think he's very much an agent of chaos in the comics, even if he never says it in those words.
Jigsaw is an insane sociopath that does ham it up, so yeah, as long as that's not ALL West does, it works for me.
S. Grundy

That was in the very first draft of the script from Hensleigh, and it was the top of a glass display case that sliced Jigsaw in half. And it was over the top and seemed out of place with how the rest was scripted. That was obviously not going to be the ending even if Jane and Hensleigh stayed on
But in Lexi's draft Jigsaw goes out like a ***** and his death is just played for a joke. Though that may have changed.

All the tv spots i seen haven't convinced me enough that this movie will be good. In my opinion is this movie is so based on MAX why didn't they pick an enemy from the MAX issues? I believe Barracuda would of been a excellent pick. I absolutely hate the punisher's outfit. It just doesn't look like something he would wear in the comics. The skull is too faded and its annoying looking at him talk with that neck brace in the way. Take away the neck brace, remove the sleeves, brighten the skull, and make him wear the trenchcoat. I believe that would be perfect but thats my opinion. I'm not knocking Lexi as a director but what creditable movies do she got under her belt?? Couldn't Lionsgate pick someone with atleast more "experiece" in action movies? The whole stylized look don't make the movie feel dark like the comics. All that red, green, yellow, blue is just not working especially for it to be a punisher flick. You don't see Chris Nolan copying the color scenes from the batman comics. I just feel this movie could possibly entertain us but it have too many flaws to be the perfect punisher flick we all want.

Indent baby, indent! And we've gone over all that before.
a) Jigsaw is in the MAX issues. So are other villains in this like Ink, Pittsy, Maginity, and so on.
b) He wears this exact outfit in Kitchen Irish. Granted, the Neckbrace is a new addon. But I barely notice it anymore.
c) He wears a trenchcoat for a bit of the movie. Just not when he's punishing the corrupt, it seems.
d) Lexi may or may not be a great director, but from what I've seen so far, she CAN direct action.
e) I think the red, green, yellow and blue works great. Especially now that it's been toned down a bit. TDK was a wonderful movie, but it doesn't mean that all dark movies need to feature it's washed-out colour.
f) I don't think anyone thinks this will be the perfect Punisher flick. However, Punisher 2004 had washed out colour, Frank wearing a trenchcoat, a brighter skull, and a more experienced director. It was a failure (sorry Kable!), and this already looks leaps and bounds better. It's a step in the right direction, if anything.

Maybe there's a happy medium. I'll grant you the action looked authentic. Although I question the tactics of walking into a room and taking every shotgun blast to the chest you can, just because you're wearing body armour.
In this new Punisher, the action is clearly going to be over the top. It won't make for a realistic movie, but at least it'll be more fun. As we both said, this isn't going to be the perfect Punisher movie. I just think it's going to be a step in the right direction, and a lot more fun than the last one.

He took two, and it was a sneak attack, then he rolled off behind a couch and pulled out a sawed off. Hell even that's less authentic in the PWZ clip, the guy shoots him in the back once and just stands there waiting for his squib to go off, I don't know about you put I would have unloaded a full clip into a guy who was trying to kill me.

LGF is totally speeding up, after coming out of the gate pretty slow with this movie. I hope that means they've seen the final cut and are impressed, and want to push the movie as much as they can.

You may think the action was boring but atleast it looked authentic. In the trailer we get the punisher taking a matrix style jump off buildings and such.
It's Marvel. In a perfect Marvel world, Frank fights Daredevil. He's not quite a Ninja like Matt, but he usually get's the upper hand and lives to fight another day.
I dont want a realistic Punisher movie, I want a Awesome Punisher movie. The Punisher is a One Man army. Thats his thing. And Stevenson has that physical presence that Dolph and Jane lacked. He doesn't look like a man who worries about getting facial scars, and wears them well. When I see him putting his fist into someones head, watching him playing Titus Pullo in Rome and him being my favorite character, I buy him crushing a mans skull, no questions asked.

I get the feeling there will be more than violent action. However, I didn't go ahead and read the script for some reason. Even so, from what I've heard and read (from that podcast, and from script reviews), there is tons of story to go with the time that Punisher slides on his knees that has you sobbing uncontrollably.

X1,2, Spidey 1,2, Blade... X3 and Spider-Man 3 are decent too. I'd say Marvel has an average track record. Sure there's Ghost Rider and Ang Lee's Hulk, plus the FF movies, but I think there's more good than bad in Marvel films.
S. Grundy
11-14-2008, 08:10 PM
Yeah, but Lexi Alexander is no where near the level of Sam Raimi, Bryan Singer, Guillermo del Toro or Ang Lee yet. Yes, I do think Hulk is a good movie, pretty much for the same reason I like the '04 film. It didn't take the obvious route in how to do the movie. Not to mention it's beautiful to look at.

And that movie I did not like. The guy who did the third Fast & the Furious movie was suppose to be directing the Oldboy remake, I saw his F&F sequel and knew he would be a horrible choice. Then again the whole idea of that remake is dumb and not even Speilberg would be able to do it justice. I think she is just going to deliver cliched ultra violent movie, and if I'm wrong I'll own up to it.

The first six issues of the MAX book is all they show up in. And I don't really see much resemblance between the characters and actors.

I wasn't sold so easy. When the first photos were released I thought he looked like Steven Segal.
When I saw the first teaser trailer is when I started to warm up to him. I guess I was still in TJ mode. I was upset that he left, but I did like Stevenson from Rome so I always gave him that.

I've seen the trailers (the redband trailer included) and I've seen the pictures. I still don't know about this movie. Don't get me wrong, Ray Stevenson looks amazing as the Punisher and Dominic West looks awesome as Jigsaw. Those actors were born to play those roles it seems. But its the visual style I'm still not too crazy about. The visual style looks more appropriate for a "Blade" movie than a shoot-em up movie like The Punisher. Maybe it just me and maybe it'll have to grow on me but its just something "gothic" and "supernatural" about the way this movie look (even though I know nothing like that would happen in this movie). Anyway since I am a Punisher fan I will check this movie out opening weekend and post my final verdict.
Microchip
11-16-2008, 02:30 AM
I think that the 'gothic style' is restricted to the lighting. I know they're sort of fighting in an abandoned, decrepit hotel, but besides that, everything looks pretty real world. Except the lighting, which is just to stylize things, for good or bad.
I like the new pics... I still got some issues with the colours and the skull, but I still hope it's going to be a fun movie.

At first I didn't like the fact that the skull wasn't as visible as it should be. But now I'm understanding the concept behind that. Obviously Frank is going through a lot of battles, so the skull is fading with him falling down, getting shot, and etc. Plus it makes the enemy that much harder for them to see him without the obvious skull giving him away.
But it's definitely visible in the other pictures.

lets hope so --
i didnt hate punisher (2004), but tom jane was the best part -- the rest of the flick needed work but i dug the realistic edge to it. but im glad this one is gonna be more outrageous and out there and comic booky. looks like an old school paul verehoven flick. and dolphs flick was just embarresingly bad for the most part... i admit i love the line about all his killings being a "work in progress."
