Is this actually true? No news sites are reporting anything.
If so, though...that is horrible.

Official confirmation of this is coming from Steve Wang. This is the MySpace bulletin I got on it:
Date: Jun 16, 2008 9:35 AM
Subject: Stan Winston passed away...
Body: Just heard that Stan Winston Passed away yesterday. This has been confirmed by someone working at this shop.
It's a sad day. He will be missed...
I really don't know what to say. I usually don't care when a celeb passes away, but I owe my cinema joy in part to this man. If you even remotely liked T1 and T2, Jurassic Park, Predator, Aliens, or Iron Man, then you were enjoying this man's hard work. It still boggles my mind how he pulled off alot of his best stuff. It's a shame, too. I was looking forward, at the very least, to seeing his work in Terminator Salvation. This is a big loss for the industry.

Stan,
Very view people can be described as visionaries in their field but you were one of them. Your work has inspired and amazed generations and will continue to inspire past your all too premature earthly departure.

This sucks, man. I mentioned on another area that there are still way too many projects coming to the screen that would require his eye for design, whether they be practical or CGI later on. His last work of Iron Man was excellent.

Iron Monger was one of his best pieces as far as practical props go.

What?
NO flippin' way.
This makes me very very sad him and Rick Baker bro two people who's visual effects work knocked my socks off at the cinema one too many times. One of the things I actually looked forward to in the next Terminator film was his work on that I hope his team does him justice this man is one of the irreplaceables if you ask me. I was just watching Pumpkinhead and Batman Returns the other day too. R.I.P. Stan Winston.
Ah darn, that sucks

Like I read in another site, the Iron Man armor would've looked ridiculous if someone else would've made it.

wow. This news just surprised me. He was magic. I have been a fan of every movie he touches. Aliens, Predator and Terminator are like a holy trinity of movies to me. He was the master and will be missed.

damn, that's too bad. he did arguably the best creature work like, ever... and from all his interviews and behind the scenes features on the movies he did the effects for, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Two men with nothing in common, but it sucks to have lost Tim Russert and Stan Winston within days of each other. I hope his successors can live up to his talent.

This makes me so sad... I was always blown away by the work he did. The industry has lost a truly talented artist.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.

What a shock! This is such a great loss.:(
He was fighting cancer for 7 years and still found the strength to make movie magic. That's as amazing as his work on some of the most iconic characters in the movie history.
RIP Stan Winston
Side note: One thing that baffles me is that this isn't on any of the newscasts i've seen this morning. Someone with real talent and who's actually meant something in the entertainment industry deserves more than that.:cmad:

Joblo did an excellent video tribute to him and I thought I would share it. http://www.joblo.com/video/player.php?video=winstrontribute2
Also, could someone please tell me the name of the second piece of music used in that tribute? I love that piece of music, but have no idea what it's called.
