How about them Sixers? What a great day for Philly sports. The Phils win with a walk off homerun from Ibanez. The Flyers dominate the Pens. And the Sixers stun everyone. Such a great day.

Orlando is a team that will make those three pointers in the regular season.
The playoffs is another story and you just can't shoot all those threes thinking that it will save the team. I already said before that it was going to get them soon and while it's just one game, they'll need to come up with a different plan in order to win the series.
I still don't see them being good enough to make it to the Finals.

In retrospect Atlanta just exposed the Miami reliance on Wade. The Hawks know that the majority of the team is young, inexperienced, and cannot keep up them as far as their speed and athletism is concerned.
When you noticed Atlanta's game plan they just ran Miami and continued to run them. Wade needs some consistent help as him carrying that team has worn him down. Although I will say that I do see Miami winning the series and they will probably use this loss as motivation.
I expect Wade to really come out focused in Game 2, however, will his team follow his determination and hunger?

If you're Byron Scott you have to be disgusted at how your team came into Denver and just flat out laid an egg. That was truly one of the most embarassing displays of basketball. Next to Dallas giving away 2-0 lead in the championships of course. :o:cmad::csad:

Well at least Miami's loss was to a team that is young, athletic, and very quick on the break. Denver's play of basketball reminds me of the Spurs as it's predictable, slow, and very grinding. I kind of had a feeling that the slow half-court defensive/offensive style of Denver would mess with New Orleans.
I do remember a lot of analysts stating that the high altitude of Denver messes with the opposing teams too.

Mister J

No surprise there and congrats to Mike.
It's funny. I don't really think he's any better of a coach than I did a couple of years ago when I was slighting him on a regular basis. However, there is something to be said for establishing a proper deployment of talent, designing plays that cater to your strengths and promoting team unity. I've learned the importance of several such virtues the hard way this season.

Mike Brown wins Coach of the Year.
Congrats to Brown and he deserves it. But he also has LeBron James, who is arguably the best player in NBA right now. Phil Jackson doesn't get alot of respect for what he did simply because he had Michael Jordan and Shaq throughout the years, but Brown doesn't seemed to receive the same doubt as Jackson did. Frankly, I think just because you have good players doesn't mean you will win the championship. Jordan (before Jackson and Pippen) never won anything, and he was just as great early on as he was when he was winning titles with the Bulls.

Brown got Coach of the Year because of the outstanding home record, as well as the best record in the NBA. Brown does have LeBron James on the team and that's one reason for their success. We found out in the last game what Brown would do with a team without LeBron. They lost at home against Philadelphia. If their home record wasn't as good as it is, then I agree BlackLantern, a guy like Mike Woodson or George Karl should have got it.

Dampier Says He'll Patrol Paint for Mavs (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4086083)
SAN ANTONIO -- Erick Dampier, the Dallas Mavericks' 6-foot-11, 265-pound center, had a specific message for San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker after Monday's playoff game.
"Every time he drives the lane, we have to put him on his back," Dampier said, according to The Dallas Morning News. "The first foul has to tell him he's in for a long night."
Parker scored 38 points in San Antonio's 105-84 win over Dallas, evening their Western Conference first-round series at 1-1.
Six of Parker's 16 field goals came via the layup on Monday, including four in the first quarter alone.
"My first foul Thursday night is going to put him on his back," Dampier said. "I guarantee it."
Game 3 is Thursday night in Dallas.
Dampier, you idiot. While putting someone on their ass while they're running too freely in the lane is a long-established tenet of playoff basketball, you've got to be a ****ing moron to call attention to it like above. All he's done is give Pop a reason to be in the referee's ear (probably right now) and place everything that Dallas does in that regard under intense scrutiny. What do you think the result will be the first time the Mavericks come close to making a questionable play on Parker in the lane? He's upped the likelihood of a simple 'playoff foul' being cited as a flagrant tremendously. This is dumbest thing he's said since he proclaimed himself the second best center in the league circa 2001. ****ing Erica.
Ass.
Howard Top NBA Defender (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4086156)
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard is the NBA's defensive player of the year after becoming only the fifth player to lead the league in blocks and rebounds in the same season.
The announcement was made Tuesday.
Howard received 542 points, including 105 first-place votes from a panel of 119 writers and broadcasters. Cleveland's LeBron James was second with 148 points and Miami's Dwyane Wade finished third with 90 points.
As expected.

The Celtics were never going to win this year with Garnett and their entire roster healthy. They don't have a small forward who can defend Lebron. Last year Posey did well*cough* until game 7 *cough*, but he's looking at a 1st round bust with NO this year. Sadly, Cleveland will win the finals in 6 games this year and beat my Lakers.:(

Dampier Says He'll Patrol Paint for Mavs (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4086083)
Ass.

As far as Marion, I'd move him every time. The positioning and impact for 2010 is too good and Shawn was doing absolutely nothing worthwhile in a Heat uniform. The shortcomings and problems I have right now are with Spoelstra, particularly his stubbornness and seeming offensive limitations. Marion wouldn't have contributed anything leading to a more favorable outcome, regular season or otherwise. I think both sides are happy with that trade.
Before the injury, Moon was comparable more times than not (especially considering he's ~17M cheaper) and if Spoelstra had any innovation on offense JO would be more than a bit player. Under no circumstances have I ever thought that deal shouldn't have been made. If anything, I think about the late-rumored proposed deal with Sacramento for Salmons and Miller (no Kenny Thomas albatross, they still would have taken Banks, but no 1st round pick or trade exception).
I know I spelled it wrong.:csad:

NBA looking into Ericka's comments:
Erick Dampier's comments about using hard fouls on San Antonio point guard Tony Parker in Game 3 Thursday are under review by the NBA, league spokesman Tim Frank said. Dampier told The News after the game that he was going to put Parker "on his back" and that "my first foul has to tell him he's in for a long night." While that may raise red flags in the league office, it also may be an attempt to play mind games with the high-scoring Parker, who has shredded the Mavericks' defense through two games of their first-round series. Dampier insisted after the game that he would "get his money's worth" on his first foul when Parker drove to the basket, which he has done with impunity. Without question, Dampier will be watched more closely by the game officials after his comments. If the league has any penalty to hand down before the game, it would probably be a fine, not a suspension. -- Dallas Morning News

A lot of people don't like him because he's been groomed for the league from his high school days. He didn't solely work alone like other greats: Magic, Bird, Jordan, even Bryant by today's standards. The guy has been a media darling who can do no wrong. At least he hasn't been grossly overrated for the past two seasons, but before that, this guy was being hailed as the best in the league and he wasn't even better than CP3, D-Wade, or Kobe.
LJ is a great player, but he gets so many calls at home. 16 FTA for one player? Lol, no other player in the league will get something like that in the playoffs. Maybe Kobe or D-wade, but I doubt it.

What the hell does Posey have to do with this? Nobody said they shouldn't play physical against Parker. Hell, I called Cleveland idiots for not doing so in the Finals. The only point that was being made was Dampier is an idiot for running his mouth and essentially promising a cheap shot. What his sorry ass should have done was shut up and go about his business. He could have increased the physicality, made the point of 'no easy layups' and no one would have said anything. Now, there's increased scrutiny on the matter, which a 3rd grader could have told you was coming, and all it does is inhibit whatever defense Dallas was planning. I full well expect the league office to get involved when gooning it up is alluded to. This was as predictable as it gets.

I'm just glad his opt-out is next year and not this one. Spoelstra ran him into the ground by refusing to give the younger guys any opportunity to consistently make an impact. The offense is so predictable, it's ridiculous. When Haslem got hurt, Beasley averaged 24/11 over the last 5 games, yet as soon as Haslem was cleared to play, Mike's ass was right back on the bench. Don't worry. Miami's going to have the most money to burn in 2010. They'll get him a playmate or 2 to help carry the load, in addition to Beasley & Chalmers who'll be heading into their 3rd year. :woot:
Go Web Go and Mister J insulting the Mavs? Who would've thought? :whatever:

You, Mister J, and GWG pointed out that you think Dampier is an idiot, correct? And that what you all stated is a fact. So why are you confused?
I don't recall calling him an idiot, though I'm not going to argue with anyone who says he is.

With the way they stretch out the first round, I'm thinking the timing of the Conference Semifinals is a decent bet. They'll time it up with one of the opening Cavs home games.
Sixth Man will be by the end of the week and then on to the big one.

Billy Hunter: Players Union Pleased With Current CBA (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=maisel_ivan&id=4091270)
If NBA commissioner David Stern is looking for a major overhaul in the collective bargaining agreement, he's going to have to convince Billy Hunter, executive director of the NBA Players Association, that it's necessary.
"As far as I'm concerned, the system has worked," Hunter said late Wednesday.
Then he made his own suggestion about how to ease the financial problems of the league's small-market teams.
"One of the principle issues is that some owners are having a hard time with cash flow," Hunter said. "I don't see why that automatically means more give-backs from the players. It seems to me a new revenue-sharing plan among the owners is one of the things they have to look at. Then you wouldn't be looking to the players every time there's a shortfall."
The current labor pact, signed in July, 2005, will expire in June, 2011. No substantive talks with the league on a subsequent deal will begin until after July 1, Hunter said, because union president Derek Fisher and other board members are involved in the playoffs. The current system guarantees the players 57 percent of basketball-related revenue (BRI).
Stern has not said specifically what the owners are seeking in the next CBA, but everything from a reduction in the BRI cut to the maximum length and size of contracts has been floated. In any case, the union has no interest in tearing up the existing deal before it expires.
Whenever the two sides finally meet, the league is going to have to demonstrate that its financial state demands player concessions. After distributing a memo to all 30 teams in February to be prepared for projected league revenues -- and thereby the player-payroll salary cap -- to drop next season, Stern recently announced that a modest increase in league revenue is expected.
"The league just had the third-largest attendance in its history, but revenues are flat because owners had to discount tickets," Hunter said. "I'm a little confused. With all that, flat is good in this economic climate."
Hunter declined to outline what the players might be seeking in the new deal, but a source said repealing the age limit, reducing the amount of player salaries held in escrow, loosening rules concerning restricted free agents and changing the league's disciplinary system top the list.
The biggest points of contention are likely to be the age limit and the disciplinary system. The current deal requires a player to be 19 -- and one year removed from high school in the U.S. -- before he is draft-eligible. There has been talk that the league would like to raise the limit by another year, but one union source said "90 percent" of the current players are against it now.
Hunter regrets agreeing to it. "It was a way of closing negotiations the last time," he said. "It was the only thing left to get a deal done. We capitulated."
The players, the source said, also want suspensions handed down by the league to be reviewed by an independent arbitrator before they go into effect, the system used in Major League Baseball. Under the current NBA system, any suspension of 12 games or less can't be appealed and all suspensions go into effect immediately.
Hunter also dismissed the threat of another labor lockout by the owners. The 1998-99 season was reduced to 50 games when owners suspended operations for six months, practically forcing the players to agree to their terms. Agent David Falk, in discussions about a book he released this winter, said the owners are prepared to impose a two-year lockout this time to get the players to capitulate to a drastically revised labor pact.
"That would be catastrophic," Hunter said. "I don't think this league could withstand another lockout."
The Union better bow down or ...I'll take lockouts for $400, Alex.
