Wow, Mister J and Immortalfire decide to bring up my name because of a poster bringing up the idea of a fix? Definitely haven't seen or heard of THAT one before. :whatever:
In any event, I don't think Lebron deserves the MVP. I feel this particular award was based off of popularity and not for a player who was/is the actual MVP of his team. I feel Wade deserves it more than anyone when you look at his stats, the state of his team, and the fact that he's literally carrying Miami and still led them to the playoffs. He's all they have and for that he deserved the MVP trophy not Lebron.

For you to know so much about basketball you don't see how hard they're pushing for the Lebron/Kobe matchup?
Let me say that I don't say it's this massive conspiracy, but with the hype they're generating, comparing it to Magic/Bird, and the overall media circus around it in general does kind of make you wonder if they're TRYING to make it be Cleveland and Los Angeles. It's almost as if they're hyping it like a professional wrestling event and even you can't deny that Mister J.
But as I said, I'm not going to say it's conspiracy. Although it is something to think about.
In all honesty I think the MVP vote was rigged. They wanted to make sure Lebron got it knowing full well that Wade deserved it. So yes, I'll definitely say the MVP was rigged this year.

Rigged, not rigged, whatever. Either way, I don't buy into the award so much. There always seems to be someone more deserving than the guy who actually ends up taking home the hardware. Shaq in 2005, Kobe in 2007, Chris Paul in 2008...on and on it goes.

LeBron had 29 Double-Double's to Wade's 20. LeBron also had 7 Triple-Doubles to Wade's 0. On top of that LeBron led his team to the best record in the NBA, a 39-2 record at home and the 4th best win % in NBA history. There was a 23 game difference between Miami and Cleveland for crying out loud. I know you hate LeBron and the Cavs. So it doesn't surprise me with your lame excuses.

Who gives a rat's ass how much it's being hyped? The media has hyped the trendy pick across any sport for as long as I can remember. At the beginning of the season, it was all about Boston/LA, Round 2. Then, the Celtics started to fall on their ass, KG started missing games and Cleveland began to look better than advertised, so the coverage shifted. Boston no longer fit the bill, Orlando and their relative playoff inexperience and reliance on the 3 makes them a fringe contender at best and the Spurs were an afterthought after Ginobili's injury, so who was left standing from the handful of teams that everyone was citing as contenders? Cleveland and LA. The fact that those teams boast a consensus two of the top three players in the league and the hype builds itself. If the Cavs and the Lakers don't end up in the Finals, it's a colossal upset on either side because those are the teams that have proven themselves, far and away, as the best in the league this season.
As far as the MVP vote, anyone who bothers paying attention to basketball knew Wade wasn't going to win. Not because of some goofy conspiracy, but rather the simple fact that over the last 29 years the MVP has come from a team that didn't win 50 games only twice; one was the strike-shortened season (where Utah's 37 wins pro-rated far in advance of 50). By and large, the MVP always comes from a championship contender/elite team and that ain't this year's Heat. It didn't matter what kind of season Wade had unless his team won more games, especially when the other names in contention had pretty damn impressive seasons of their own. So you might as well cite the voting as rigged for the last three decades (which wouldn't surprise me if you did) because that's how the vote has long been established. Mamba and LeBron both have been jobbed over for MVP in past years because their records simply didn't fit the bill. It happened to Dwyane this year.
All the Picard icons and rolling eye smileys in the world aren't going to change the fact that this is simply another manifestation from your fantasy world where Stern takes everyone's lunch money.

I'm extremely disappointed in Lakers' loss to Rockets tonight. I think it may be a combination of rust and complacency that did Lakers in, but in the end they had no excuse losing to a team that they handled in the regular season. And both Bynum and Odom failed to contain Yao Ming, who showed up with a huge game and helped his team win. I hope this will become a wakeup call for the Lakers, otherwise this could get ugly.

i wasn't, however, surprised to see yao dominate gasol/bynum because phil jackson often single covers yao. single coverage isn't going to cut it against yao; who do they think he is, dwight howard?

If you say so Mister J, funny how you're a mod and you join in on the insulting and thinking you can talk down to anyone. :whatever:
Let me put it to you this way. I know you hate me and I know you hate Dallas, I know you think you're "better" than me because of my whole belief on what happened in 2006. Trust me, I'm over it and while I do believe the league has a vision on what would bring them more money, I don't believe it's a global conspiracy and the whole FBI ideal that you sarcastically LOVE to bring up.
As for the last MVP's? The only time I really felt the MVP's was truly deserving was when Duncan, Nash, and Dirk won it as it was really a no brainer as to what they meant to their team. I understand the award goes to the player who is on the team with the most wins or a better winning percentage, however, I definitely don't believe Kobe or Lebron deserved the MVP award simply because you take EITHER of them off that team and they'd still have a winning record. Maybe not 1st or 2nd seed record, but they'd still have a shot at getting into the playoffs.
Take Wade of your squad and that team sucks more than Roseanne's singing of the Stars Spangled Banner. So yes, I do believe Wade got screwed over and it was already decided to give it to Lebron. That's my perspective on the MVP voting and I'm sticking to it, whether you like me or not, I'm not going to back down from my opinion.

I didn't see the game but I was prepared to come into this thread and see that the Lakers won Game 1. I was VERY surprised to see a different outcome of the game and I was impressed. When you think about it the Rockets needed to get just one game in LA.
Of course if they get the second one I'll be surpised, happy, and will say that the Rockets may perhaps win the series. That should be a goal for the Rockets for the next game, get the next one in Los Angeles and keep the pressure on.

Lakers have won all 4 faceoffs against Rockets this regular season, including two at Houston, so I think Lakers can definitely get back the homecourt advantage. But first they have to play this series tough, against an efficient & defensive team, and not sleepwalk like they did in game 1.

The right man won MVP. LeBron could go to any team in the league and they are instantly a playoff contender; sub Wade for LBJ and they prob. go the conference finals. For all haters, Yahoo had THE fact that solitified it: When LeBron was out, his team had a bigger- (their lead shrunk the most/they got down by more) any other team when they were without their guy who was in the top 5 in votes. So...
:hehe: @ Wade getting more 1st place votes than Kobe....Kobe shouldnt even be top 5. Gasol, Bynum, and Fish are all all star talents even if he isnt there.
Chris Paul in 2008...on and on it goes.
I dont understand how you can say Wade deserves it this year because his team sucks and he carries them every game....and then now use the same argument for James last season. LBJs team was god aweful and he personally carries them to 7 games vs. Boston; while Chris Paul got to play with David West.

Bynum may get that far one day, but Derek Fisher has as much of a chance of being named to an All-Star team as I do. :funny:

Bynum only started to emerge in these two seasons, and he had been mostly hurt, so I don't think he is qualified as an All-Star yet (his recent disappearance in the playoff doesn't help). Gasol is an All-Star for sure, but Fisher does not.

Of course, it would be unwise to count out the Lakers. But I do believe if Houston can get this second game it will put the pressure on the Lakers. I'm no Laker fan and I hate that they're an arrogant, cocky, and classless team at times when they have lost or won championships. But they're ****ing talented, deep, and will definitely make this series. I'm not sure if they'll lose the second game or not, but if Houston continues to play hungry it's going to be a great one.
I just have a feeling that IF Los Angeles loses this series Kobe will demand to be traded again.

Chauncey turned that team around and they flourishing under his playmaking abilities. It also doesn't hurt the fact that their core is young, athletic, quick, and are good defensively as well.

Was watching the Houston/Los Angeles game and was disgusted to see how they allowed Gasol, Fisher, Kobe, and etc easy buckets rather than playing some physical defense. I know officials tend to call players if they breath on Kobe, however, they need to start bumping him, pushing him, and start taking him down to the court whenever he drives to the paint.
Anytime he wants to run backwards shaking his head and making cocky faces you need to send a message to him. Kobe will always be the arrogant Kobe until they actually knock him down.

so throwing an elbow is an involuntary arm spasm when battling for rebounds...?
kobe threw the elbow purposely, but i'm not sure he deserves a suspension because it was within a physical play. fisher should easily be suspended.
lakers being physical and standing up and being tough does not involve throwing elbows, checking players with your elbow/shoulder, and talking trash after every basket.

Magic's Alston, Lakers' Fisher Will Sit (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4150159)
Orlando Magic guard Rafer Alston and Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher have each been suspended one game without pay for their roles in separate incidents on Wednesday night, Stu Jackson, NBA executive vice president of basketball operations announced on Thursday.
Alston has been suspended for swinging and making contact with the head of the Celtics' Eddie House with 48.6 seconds remaining in the third quarter of the Magic's 112-94 loss to the Celtics in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Fisher has been suspended for striking Houston's Luis Scola with his shoulder and head in the third quarter of the Lakers' 111-98 win last night over the Rockets in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Fisher received a flagrant foul two and was ejected.
Jackson also announced that the Lakers' Kobe Bryant has been assessed a flagrant foul one for elbowing Houston's Ron Artest in the chest area in the fourth quarter.
Alston will serve his suspension on Friday when the Magic host the Celtics. Fisher also will serve his suspension on Friday when the Lakers visit the Rockets.

Well the thing is any hard foul that Artest gives it will most likely be a flagrant since officials don't like him anyways and he's an easy target. He's the Rasheed Wallace of tough defenders when you think about it.
I'm to the point to where I feel they should just give LA the series honestly.
Because if Kobe doesn't get suspended for the elbows that he throws and Dwight Howard gets suspended what does that say? It says that the league is playing favorites with the big stars that bring in the money, the ratings, and the fans.
Although I do wonder what happens to Houston if they lose the series? Do they trade T-Mac since they got out of the first round without him?

Kobe's Elbow and Dwight's Elbow were big differences. Kobe's elbow was even upgraded to a flagrant 1.
How so? Both are elbows and both can severely injure/kill a person if used correctly when striking the right area. It just seems like it's one big playing favorites deal to me.
Dwight's elbow, at least to me, wasn't intentional and was in the act of the game whereas Kobe has a history of intentionally throwing elbows and has yet to be punished, suspended, or fined for it. It just seems wrong to me Nightmare that's all.
I also think Artest is being targeted by officials too. Of course it's his own fault for his place in the Detroit Brawl, his erratic nature, and etc but it's wrong to single out a particular player just because of his past attitudes or current attitude, you know? But we'll see what happens in the next game. So far none of these games have been close.

Kobe has a history of throwing elbows now. So every elbow he's thrown it just so happens to be in the act of playing and never once is it intentional.
I've seen players like Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, and even Magic do what Dwight did when getting a rebound. I do agree though that Dwight's looked malicious but I don't think he had any intention on hurting Dalembert honestly. Although if Dwight REALLY wanted to hurt him he could've.
I'm just saying I remember Kobe throwing elbows at Mike Bibby, Raja Bell, Steve Nash, and now Artest. Just seems kind of fishy that he's given a free pass when he throws elbows.

Yao Ming's Season is Over
Official Medical Press Release from the Rockets
Yao Ming to Miss Remainder of Playoffs
Rockets center Yao Ming has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2009 NBA Playoffs after further diagnostic procedures conducted today revealed a small hairline fracture in his left foot. The finding is in addition to the earlier diagnosis of a left ankle sprain that he sustained during Friday night’s 108-94 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals playoff series. While no surgery is needed, the expected recovery timeline is between eight to 12 weeks.
“Yao Ming had an initial test taken in the early morning hours on Saturday following the game,” said Rockets Team Physician Dr. Tom Clanton. “The original diagnosis of the left ankle sprain was based on the results of that test. Further diagnostic procedures performed later in the day, revealed a hairline fracture on the top of his left foot. In order for the bone to heal properly, Yao will need to immobilize the foot by wearing a walking boot. No surgery is required and he should be able to resume his regular workout routine sometime between the next eight to 12 weeks.”

Wait a minute, so was I proven right to an extent? All this does is hurt the NBA's integrity even more. Nice to see that I wasn't wrong when it all comes down to it.
What's the point of admitting the mistake? The game is over now and the Mavs are down 0-3. Thanks, but no thanks.
Since it's just about safe to say THAT THE ****ING MAVERICKS SEASON IS OVER DAMMIT, I'm curious to see what Carlisle will do this offseason. I'm sure Cuban and lil'Donnie will get him whatever the hell he wants. Could they be serious contenders next year? Can they come out on top of the toughest division in the league? Profit?
Also, what a performance by LeBron today.

I know it doesn't help the Mavs, but that ref should be suspended for missing the call IMO.
The thing that pisses me off is that it was RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. You can argue that Wright should have just wrapped him up instead of hacking his arm, but the ref was literally barely a foot away. He should have CLEARLY saw the foul. God. A suspension would be nice.

Exactly. A missed call like that should result in some sort of punishment. The NBA needs to set an example so these referee's start paying more attention.
And for the people who think that game was rigged, there was no guarantee that Anthony was going to make the basket.

Feel sorry for the mavs and their fans. They got screwed bad. The NBA even admitted it should of been called a foul.
Also disappointed for Yao, it was a good series and a battle on the inside vs yao every game. But as a Laker fan, Hopefully we can capitalize and win this in 5. Landry has been playing great.

Correct me if Im wrong, but in these kinds of situations, aren't a coach or player allowed to tell the ref nearest the inbounder that they are going to use their last foul to give?
I feel sorry for the Mavs, but Wright REALLY should have wrapped up both of Melo's arms. He relied too much on the ref on that play.

Exactly. A missed call like that should result in some sort of punishment. The NBA needs to set an example so these referee's start paying more attention.
The league rarely publicizes officials discipline and, on the few occasions that I've seen where they do, a public spectacle is hardly made of it. The most they do publicly is acknowledging a different call should have been made, like they did on the Fisher/Barry no-call in Lakers/Spurs Game 4 last year. The NFL does the same thing and you wonder what's the point. The game's over. That kind of thing can be useful internally, but outside of that, it's limited at best.
And for the people who think that game was rigged, there was no guarantee that Anthony was going to make the basket.
If you look at the reactions in different places, this is a fairly large distinction that seems to escape some people. :funny:
The funny thing is that if Anthony had missed that shot, no one would have said boo about the call. Wright was trying to foul, but who does so with a chest bump, while their hands are up in the air in the classic "I didn't do anything position."? If you don't bother to wrap up and drape your arms across the guy, as is done is about 90% in these instances, you can at least bother to play until you hear a whistle. Wright did neither. Anthony could have been equally as absent-minded and stopped playing after the contact, thinking that a foul was coming, but he kept his head, played through and came up big.

Maybe not, but if I'm not mistaken Anthony had enough time to set his feet since he was wide open and make the shot. Fact of the matter is the officials screwed up and the league shouldn't have admitted the mistake. What good is admitting it going to do?
It's still a loss for the Mavericks and nothing can take it away. So I'd prefer they kept their mouths shut honestly.

Kinda like the Ed Hochuli call in the Broncos/Chargers game last season. I think something needs to be done rather than a slap on the wrist, though. This is the NBA Playoffs. The wrong call could change the outcome of a game/series. In this instance, it allowed Denver to go up 3-0. The league should throw out some sort of punishment, to show the fans that they're not going to tolerate missed calls. Especially the ones that are right in front of you.

DALLAS — During the postgame chaos after Saturday's Nuggets-Mavericks game, Dallas owner Mark Cuban had a brief but heated confrontation with Lydia Moore, the mother of Denver's Kenyon Martin, who was seated near the tunnel that leads to the Mavs' locker room.
Cuban said Sunday by e-mail that when he walked off the court, a fan was screaming about the Nuggets being "thugs," so Cuban said to Martin's mother: "That includes your son."
According to Martin's agent, Brian Dyke, Cuban spotted Moore amid numerous Nuggets fans and said, unprovoked, "Your son is a punk." Regardless of what insult was stated, NBA spokesman Tim Frank said, "The situation on the floor postgame is being reviewed."
Cuban was visibly angry after Game 3 because he believed the officials missed numerous key calls down the stretch, notably the noncall on Denver's Carmelo Anthony, who avoided a potential foul and calmly hit the winning 3-pointer with one second left.
As Cuban stormed out of the tunnel, he spotted Martin's mother in the stands. That's when the sudden and quick interaction took place.
Martin is a perpetually physical player, who committed a hard foul on Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki in Game 1, earning Martin a $25,000 fine from the NBA.
Cuban said by e-mail he knew Martin's mother, because after a previous game that Denver won, she had approached him and made trash-talk-type comments.
Martin is a Dallas native and has been clutch in this postseason for Denver, notably on defense, where coach George Karl praises him as one of the NBA's top overall defenders.
I don't disagree with Cuban, but there's a certain way an owner of a professional sports team should conduct himself.

Let the drama begin.
Orlando Magic fan Ernest Provetti is demanding an apology from Glen "Big Baby" Davis after the Celtics' thrilling Game 4 win in Orlando Sunday.
Why exactly?
Provetti said Davis shoved his 12-year-old son Nicholas with such force after Davis made a game-winning jumper, that Nicholas' baseball cap catapulted into the air and his son dove into his courtside seat.
Provetti sent an e-mail to the NBA League office this morning. He said Davis crossed the line, literally, and embarrassed his son.
"The NBA makes it clear to not cross the sideline," he said in a telephone interview. "If I cross that line, the NBA will take away my tickets. It's a double standard."
In the e-mail, Provetti said Davis conducted himself like a "raging animal with no regard for fans' personal safety."
Provetti moved to Orlando from New Jersey last year and is opening another branch to his toy company, Team Trinity. He was previously a fan of the Celtics because he watched Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers as a former player for the New York Knicks from 1992-94.
He comes to every game at Amway Arena and sits in the V.I.P Row A, seats 5 and 6. After Sunday's game, Provetti said he received calls and text messages from other fans checking on his son. Magic player Adonal Foyle also checked on how his son was after the game.
Provetti saw the video clip online this morning. He did not think it was funny.
"How do you like to be a 12-year-old and see a raging lunatic coming at you?"

I thought they'd get one home game, but nagging injuries to Johnson, Williams and Horford cut against that. LeBron destroying everything in sight has a little bit to do with it too. I'd be surprised if it's close, but would take a Hawks W tonight just for the contest here.
