Congratulations to the Laker fans... enjoy it while it lasts. The legacy is forever tarnished as far as I'm concered. When people look back on this Laker run they will see a giant "L" in the loss column in the Finals against the Boston Celtics of all teams. Ten more Championships won't change that. Put that on Kobe's resume when they stack him up to the other NBA greats...

I am not surprised LA won the championship. Anyone who believed Orlando stood a chance was fooling themselves. I still don't and will never respect this Laker team of arrogant classless individuals.

Kobe finally got his ring without Shaq and I'm sure the sports media will be bowing before him, Phil, and the rest of Los Angeles soon. Orlando has no one to blame but themselves for their poor shooting, poor defense, and the fact that they simply weren't physically or mentally strong to handle the pressure.

So another basketball season is over. While I hate them with a passion I say congrats to LA and their fanbase. Enjoy it while it lasts because you won't win next year.

"We Are The Champion!!!"

I'm so happy and proud for the L.A. Lakers, who defeated Magic tonight and only lost once in this Finals series. This is especially sweet considering how the season ended last season, at the hands of Celtics, and so many turmoils and expectations that followed Lakers this season. I'm ecstatic not only for Kobe to have gotten his 4th (and first without Shaq), but also for Phil to get his tenth and surpass Red for the most championships. There were just so many highs-and-lows that made this one particularly wonderful and memorable.

I also want to congratulate Orlando Magic, for making the trip to the Finals and eliminated Celtics and Cavs, two early favorites, on the way there. If Howard works on his game, such as improving his low-post and develop a jump shot, he just might win a ring before LeBron.

yea cause it hurt Jerry West's legacy losing to the Celtics every year in the Finals. Jerry West is only the NBA logo. Magic also lost to the Celtics in 84 btw.

I assume Lakers losing in The finals last year to the Celtics is the new lame attempt to put Kobe down. Haters are running out of excuses.

anyway, congrats to the Lakers for #15. Congrats to Dr. Buss for #9. Congrats to Phil for #10. It was a hell of a season. Next season should be fun.

No problem. It was fun leading the pack for awhile but in the Finals, anything could happen and did. I was very surprised that I did so well, far better than I anticipated, so even as a runner-up I'm still very happy how it turns out.

Members of a crowd celebrating the Lakers’ NBA championship damaged at least one police cruiser and were setting bonfires in the street Sunday night, according to police.

Up to five members of the rowdy crowd that collected near the Staples Center and split off on to surrounding streets were arrested after police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly, police spokeswoman Mary Grady said.

Officer Karen Rayner said one or two police cruisers were damaged and reinforcement officers were called in from throughout the city to help disperse the crowd.

Aerial video footage shown on KCAL-TV showed people jumping on a police car, rocking vehicles attempting to pass through the crowd and throwing flares set up by police. No injuries were reported.

Police department strike teams had pushed people from the immediate area around the Staples Center into surrounding neighborhoods and were attempting to break the crowds into progressively smaller clusters, Grady said.

The department had declared a citywide tactical alert, meaning that all officers on duty were to remain on duty until the crowds had been completely dispersed, she said.

The Lakers beat the Orlando Magic 99-86 in Game 5 of the NBA finals Sunday night to win their 15th championship.

Television reports also showed small crowds of people parading through the streets of East Los Angeles, where excitement over the Lakers’ Game 4 win Thursday night spilled into the streets, with rowdy fans swarming vehicles trying to pass through the area.

In 2000, after the Lakers won their first NBA title in 12 years, fans rioted outside Staples Center, burning police cars and leaving more than 70 vehicles damaged, many at nearby auto dealerships. At least 11 people were arrested and a dozen were injured.

Sunday night’s crowd appeared to be the remaining members of a throng of hundreds of ecstatic fans who streamed onto the sidewalks from the bars and restaurants surrounding the Staples Center, where the Lakers play home games.

Before the game, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said if the Lakers win they should have a victory parade in Los Angeles, despite the city’s budget woes.

Villaraigosa said he would work with the private sector to help fund the celebration, which was expected to occur on Wednesday.

More trade rumors

Phoenix has also fielded calls from other teams that have inquired about O'Neal, including the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks. While getting talent in return is a priority, the Suns' desire for financial relief is real, which means they will likely trade O'Neal and his $20 million contract this offseason.

The Knicks are trying to pawn their troubled center Eddy Curry off on the Suns but are getting nowhere.

While the Shaq-to-Cleveland deal is not imminent, it does have a legitimate chance of coming to fruition.

"It's plausible, it's possible," said a league executive. "But there's nothing happening right now."

I doubt Rondo will be traded, since he's still young and doesn't command a very high salary, plus he has proved this year that he's their PG of the future. I don't think they will dump Ray either, but if they do it'd be to get some relief under the cap, and plus the fact that Ray is getting old and if Danny Ainges believe that their window has closed and there is no reason to keep the Big Three together.

If O'Neal does in fact go to Cleveland. I really don't see how it wouldn't be L.A. V.S. Cleveland next year.
Edit: However Shaq is old as well, so it depends on who shows up in Cleveland. Last years Shaq, or lazy Shaq. If last years Shaq shows up in Cleveland, then look out!

The problem with Boston is all their key players are old. So there really is a guarantee that they won't get injured. I think Ainge should start building around Rondo now. He is a great PG. This way Boston doesn't slip back into another 22 years drought.

I guarantee there will be at least one bloated, ridiculous contract paid out to a decent, but ultimately undeserving, player this offseason.

Trevor. Ariza.

And you guys can say he played his ass off in the playoffs, but guys ALWAYS do that in contract years. This time next year he will average 10 and 3. GUARANTEE IT!

Oh! And guaranee the Knicks make the playoffs as long as they keep the Robinson-Chandler-Lee nucleus together.

i hope he works on his free throw % and trying to develop a lil mid range/hook shot to develop his game some more. if he can get his free throw % up over 70-75 percent, then he will be even that harder to defend. they won't be able to "hack a howard" if he can make it from the stripe

Ding, Ding, Ding!

I think he'll be a big-time flop if he leaves LA, but he'll keep his numbers steady if he continues to be surround by Pau and Kobe.

You agree with me!! :cmad: Now I have to change my post!!

Ok......Carlos Boozer won't leave Utah becuase no team will really show interest in him becuase he won't get the money he THINKS he deserves......but IF he leaves Utah, he will be traded. You agree? Please say no..............:csad:

i don't think Boozer will make what he thinks he's worth. I don't think he's this big time player, but that's just my opinion. He flew under the radar a couple of seasons, had an all star worthy season or two, and now he wants big bucks. he's consistent at best, and i don't hate him, but i don't see anyone giving him the kinda money he'll probably demand. he's got a good thing going on in utah, he should stay put imo

Then so be it!

And for your information, I also think Boozer will stay put in Utah. He wants to play for the Heat, but unless he's taking a major paycut, Riles ain't havin' nunna that! :cmad:

Hahaha! Boozer to Heat? Never going to happen! Bosh will land in Miami before Boozer does. He sucks anyway. :cmad:

Who's your team by the way?

He does suck, and as a Heat fan, I wouldn't want him but that rumor has been tossed around for a few seasons, mainly because Boozer lives in Miami and has said before that he'd consider doing so, but now that Miami is clearing space for one of the 2010'ers that's a no go.

Oh yes. I'm a Heat fan. The bad blood just keeps-a flowin' between you and I, holmes.

NBA Trade Rumor: Tracy McGrady to the Knicks

This isn’t going to fly as an alternative to LeBron for the New York faithful. But there’s a chance that the Knicks - who are always assumed to be willing to exceed the luxury tax - would like to bring in Tracy McGrady as a one-year mercenary. It would sell some tickets, some jerseys, and would possibly keep the Garden entertained while waiting for 2010.

That would work out best for both the Knicks and McGrady, who has a year to prove that he’s worth a monster deal when he becomes a free agent along with the rest of the world in 2010. He’d have the spotlight on him in New York, where he could show the rest of the League that he’s still a viable 24-point per game scorer.

The Knicks could put together a package that would save the Rockets some money and include a veteran shooting guard with an expiring contract — Larry Hughes ($13.6M)along with Cuttino Mobley’s 80-percent insured $9.5M deal. Mobley could then officially retire with the team that drafted him (and originally knew about his heart condition). Call it full circle.

There are some issues with that scenario, though. First of all, Mobley retired in December. Even if he magically unretired and made himself available for a trade back to the squad that drafted him originally, there’s a rule explicitly prohibiting the trade of an injured/sick player.

That might not be a bad move for the Knicks...until February came around and McGrady's being helped off the court. Next thing you know "Tracy McGrady out for season" is flashing at the bottom of the ESPN crawl.

NBA Trade Rumor: Tracy McGrady to the Knicks

Knicks should ask themselves if they want an underachieving, and often-injured, shooting guard who can't really play defense and pay him that fat contract.
