Were there any other directors attatched at any time in the past besides Sommers ?

I'm just curious how it could have gone had he not been making this. I'm not counting him out but I've hated all his films I've seen thus far.

I know Don Murphy was interested in working on it before the Iraq war broke out but he's a producer (his only directorial project came out in 1990).

I'd really appreciate any history you can illuminate me on, haven't posted on SHH in a while but still love you guys.
