I just ran across this article, from June 08, which gives a 2010 date for an Ant-Man Movie
http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2008/06/writer-of-antman-comicbook-mov.html
I'm one who has bought into an Ant-Man movie!

Well from what I heard they want all the actors to return as the characters in the Avengers movie, so I'd assume janet would too.

Wow... Wright looks like a young Crowe... Anyhow 2010 would mean Marvel would go beyond the two film limit per year. No big deal. But it's the only time to do it since there are only two other comic book films slated for summer 2010. I hope this gets done.

I actually don't like his idea for the movie. Seems like if they include Scott Lang in this movie then Lang will be in the Avengers. I'd rather they have Pym in the Avengers movie, then in the Antman movie put Scott Lang in the solo movie

Favreau has already stated that Marvel is keen on using Pym in Avengers. Lang if anything would be used for the sequel... which I doubt would happen. But giving him a role in Ant-Man won't take too much away from Pym IMO.

The one guy that I can now see playing AM since Marvel is keen on getting big names is Orlando Bloom. He's a big name and hasn't done shhh since the Pirates movies.

I'm of the mind that an Ant-Man movie could be really good. Pym is actually a really complex character. Even looking back his early run in Tales to Astonish, he had a personality and approach all his own. However, I think that he should evolve into Giant-Man for the Avengers, while retaining his entire complex of powers from his Ant-Man identity. His constant tweaking of his powers and agility was a direct result of hanging with Thor, Cap, and the like.
My vote for the role? Jaime Bamber. (Apollo from BSG).
Also, The Wasp ABSOLUTELY must play significant role in the film for it to be successful.

Makes sense...maybe they'll have him as Yellowjacket in the Avengers...

Yeah....I have a soft spot for the Yellowjacket character, too. I think that they should save this Pym for possible Avengers sequels, where Lang can take on the Ant-Man character. You could really get into some dark stuff with Pym in his Yellowjacket persona. Particularly when he tried to destroy the Avengers because of his own insecurity and the Wasp saved the day.....

Cool Joe Cornish is co-writing. I remember his adam and Joe show, it was so weird.
I hope we see Pyms insecurities in the Avengers too

Interesting. If Marvel does get this out in 2010 (though I think it highly unlikely), I think this opens the door for possbily having Ultron be the villain in Avengers. This would be a good way not to rehash villains like myself and others have discussed in great detail.
Just develop Ultron in the background, and boom. We've got ourselves a villain!

As much of a Kang fan as I am, Ultron is the obvious choice for The first Avengers movie; then if there's a sequel, Kang, and a threequel, Korvac. Another possibility would be the Red Skull in a plot involving a cosmic cube. No Masters of Evil please...the last thing we need is a bunch of underdeveloped villains running around attacking people.

I'd love to see that, and it would almost GUARANTEE the movie's success....the question is: Would Bloom even consider it? And what type of paycheck would he want?

I think Kang is the only choice for sequel villain if Ultron can be used in the first. Ultron I think works better in bringing the team together than Kang does, but Kang would be a great choice in expanding the Avengers world (and up the threat level at the same time). Also, Ultron's use would make Pym more central to the movie (which has been one of my concerns with his use in the film). Without Ultron, he risks just being the other team member for the sake of it not just being a squad of 3 or 4.
I agree on the MoE cause they would end up being a group of already defeated villains fighting the guys who beat them. Just not that tough, especially in what should be one of the biggest moments this genre has ever seen.

Grouping Ant-Man and Cap in 2011 and Avengers in 2012 may be the wisest way to go. We get to see the team's leader blasted to today's world, and introduce the film's villain (since Ultron is a character that needs some form of introduction before he can become a full villain). This also prevents the film from having rehashed villain(s).

I feel the same way. Push Avengers back a year and have Ant-Man as the second 2011 film. Though I would prefer it be just about Pym. They should save Lang for an Avengers sequel, IMO.

I would love to see Ant-Man released in Feb-March slot before the Avengers movie. Maybe a smaller budget, then the main-stream movies, but utilizing advances on tech since the "Honey, I shrunk the Kids" movies.

I suggest you research Hank Pym a bit. They can go into complex stuff with him.
For example, his science background, his unstable mind, his relationship with Janet and making Ultron.
Thoughts?
You don't have to end every post with this.

No I think it should be more like ghostbusters where the characters are funny and the situations are funy but its still an action adventure movie with a scientist.

So even before there was the Spider-Man 4 conflict, you were so obsessed with the corny, stupid idea of "Hey, Cap needs to be July 4th!?" Nevermind that May is a MUCH stronger release date.
And you claim to be some force of logic.
Cap has a release date; Spider-Man doesn't.
Besides, Sony might want to play ball with Marvel; I'm sure Marvel can think of someway to take Spider-Man away from Sony after SM-6 if they don't.

I'd hat Hank Pym being turned into some dorky scientist in a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" type of garbage. Yes there could be some comedic aspects thrown in there like Iron Man but don't waste Pym's complexities on some kids garbage.

Depends on if BB3 is in mid July 2011 of course... but look... I already said I am not debating this anymore. It's my prediction of what will happen. I might be wrong... you might be wrong. I gave my logic... you gave your logic... the only thing we can do now is play the waiting game... but I firmly believe Summer 2011 will open up with SM4 and not Cap... odds are stacked against me at the moment but I have went out on a limb before. Frankly its not far fetched at least IMO. I however do see a compromise that could be made with Marvel/Sony in that Sony would open up the 2012 season with SM5 and Marvel might put Avengers mid July 2012. That's a compromise that can work though. If Marvel needs that second film in 2011 they can release Ant-Man... but it would have to be in the spring or late summer because three movies of that scale and Ant-Man would not be remotely competitive. We probably both agree on that.

Not to start trouble or anything, but why in the world would they do an Ant-Man movie? Granted I'm not a huge fan of the character by any means, but how can they expect this movie to do amazing or get great numbers?
Personally I feel you should just introduce Hank in an Iron Man film and go from there. I don't see an Ant-Man film being too interesting at all. I say save Ant-Man for the Avengers project as a whole.

that or wait till after Avengers to do an Ant man movie and use it to gauge his popularity and see if it would warrant making a solo movie.
I wouldn't see any harm in releasing Antman in say December like how they're releasing Punisher: Warzone this year. Something for the holiday season plus a little extra anticipation for the Avengers. A cameo by Nick Fury, Tony Stark or perhaps Donald Blake.

I assume they're doing it since he's the member of the Avengers.

They might see it having potential to do well with the proper execution.

It could be interesting.
Pym is a really fascinating and complex guy to do a movie about. Marvel could really show the public why they should take him seriously.
I say save Ant-Man for the Avengers project as a whole.
That may be best, but the movie should have some potential on its own.
