Inspired by a similar thread, I want to pose this question to everyone: Name a movie that you like the first time you saw it, but can't stand now?
I'll start us off with: Titan A.E.

The Phantom Menace. Oh man I loved it when it first came out. When I was 10. But watching back now...is excruciating. Granted, it has its moments (final duel, soundtrack, etc), but otherwise I really dislike it.

Freddy's my favorite of all the slashers, & the first film gave us the greatest kill scene ever. Johnny Depp. Freddy pulls him down into a hole in the middle of the bed. In comes the TV. In comes the stereo. In comes the sheets & bedspread. And out comes more blood than the human body can possibly contain. Classic.

I guess I mainly liked Freddy b/c for years I've sat through horror movies, listening to one idiot after another after another shouting instructions at the screen; "Run!" "Don't go that way!" "He's right behind you!" And finally, we have a franchise where none of that applies. There's no running, no evading-he controls the reality around you. He's not a 13-inch doll or some weirdo in a William Shatner mask. He's the stuff of nightmares.

His movies never grabbed me. And they had lame kills. I don't care who you are; You go to a horror movie for one reason & one reason only-great kills. Myers didn't provide that. Ever. It was always, he lifts the knife, the camera pans away & you see a blood splatter. Weak. You can get that on prime time.

I like Freddy and I own the entire collection but that was one of the worst kill scenes ever. It can lead alot of people divided on how they feel about those films . If it hadn't been johnny depp on that bed this death would not be talked about because it was ridiculous .

The mad hate on for Michael needs to stop. He's the classic boogeyman of the slashers. :o
And last time I checked you go to a horror movie to be scared, and the original Halloween is still one of the scariest films to date. It uses suspense and stalking instead of the recent boring and not scary trend of blood and guts to turn your stomach in fear.:o
But to keep with the subject: X-Men and X2 from a hardcore X-Men fan point of view. They suck. Singer had no idea what to do with them besides the ''message". :o

I, too, can admit to once having liked B & R. I don't know why. I know it spat in the face of everything Batman stands for, but so did the TV series & people still like that. I somehow was able to enjoy the absurdity of it all. However, I no longer can.

Even when I called myself liking it, I laughed at how it played like a 6-year-old wrote it. "And Mr. Freeze's getaway car turns into a rocketship, and goes up in the air, and Mr. Freeze flies away on giant metal wings that grow out of his back. And Robin saves Batman with his Robin-laser, they blow up the rocketship and go surfing through the air."

Yep, it's true. I was pretty surprised myself. Blackheart just smirks and grumbles and understanding and that's it. It's self explanitory on its own. You really got to feel bad for MSJ. I think he wants to leave all the good stuff in and try to make a good movie but the producers or studios force him to take it out or dumb it down. Because I didn't like Daredevil. But I heard the director's cut is a whole lot better.

But I heard the director's cut is a whole lot better. The Daredevil DC is a ton better, it feels more like a real movie with a story, but a lot of the writing is still kinda juvinile; young blind Matt's fight with the bullies is still in there, the meh rom-com stuff with Matt and Elektra, including their fight in the park, is intact. But the DC, as the title suggests, is the movie Johnson made, and the theatrical version is the studio's dumbed down, wider-appeal version.

Interesting. I'll have to check it out. But, you should give GR: EE a chance too. There's some great deleted scenes that fleshes out the characters more. One good scene where young Johnny and his father are talking about destiny and one where it proves Roxanne isn't just there for eye candy. There's actually an alternative first meeting between Blackheart and Mephisto. Instead of meating in a street, they meet outside where Blackheart just killed the people in the bar. You may or may not like it still. But it's still a fun movie for what it is.

Same way with me. I just wanted to love it so much, that I just did it blindly. Then I talked to a friend about it and she mentioned some things about the acing, that I noticed as well. It snowballed from there into an utter distaste for the film. Now I see all the flaws and pray like crazy that they put it back on track for the next film.

God, I remember when this first came out, I was obseesed about it. Just the coolest idea ever for a 11 year old. And it still is. I got the movie adaption book (which is better than the movie) and saw it in theaters. But now, I see it's flaws, but I don't hate it. Yeah, it's bad in some parts. But it does have it's moments. I liked Memories of Nobody better than Diamond Dust, I thought the relationship was very sweet, the ending very sad. Although in B:DDR I really enjoyed Uryu Ishida's 1000 holy arrows per minute attack, he's one of my favorite characters. My main one would be Batman & Robin. I know, I know... ****ing everyone on the hype hates B&R, but when it first came out (I was 8), I thought it was just the greatest ****ing thing EVER. I thought Alicia Silverstone was hot as hell, I though Schwarzenegger was a complete badass, I got the toys, watched it over and over on VHS... the whole nine yards. Little by little, as the years passed by, I started to notice it got a little less good each and every time. Then, of course, once I joined the hype, I saw how hated it was by everyone and eventually disowned it. I still watch it on occasion (about once a year or less), but its just cringeworthy for the most part (I still think O'Donnell made an okay Robin, though).

This was pretty much me too. I was 5 when it came out. You know how people say they just wanted to sell toys? Well it freaking worked. I bought alot of merchandise from that film. I remember my family went on a trip to Ohio that same year, my borther and I listened to the cassette version and had a load of B&R crap. Uma Thurman was hot as hell. I loved the film, rented it whenever I could. But then as I got older, I started to notice gradually. Something new each time I watched it. Why were there nipples on the batsuit? A credit card? Two credit cards? Puns? Neon LIGHTS?! George Clooney shorter than O'Connel, etc. Now I know.
Luckily for 5 year olds now, they can witness the awesomness of TDK without going what I went through in 1997.
I got a Mr. Freeze action figure from the "Tooth Fairy" under my pillow when I was 5. That was pretty sweet. Still can't figure out how my parents got it under there without waking me up since it was a big ass package.

Batman & Robin.
I knew going in what to expect, & I think that made it easier to take. I knew we weren't going to get a faithful Batman movie, in terms of the Batman of the 90's, but rather a more laid-back, happy-go-lucky goofball that was in line with the Batman of the 60's. The title, the casting, (CLOONEY!?!?!?) the choice of villains, (Cold kills plants!) everything told me what to expect & I think for that reason I was able to enjoy it at the time, even knowing how bad it was. But over time-and not even a whole lot of time, the whole "So bad it's good" feeling of the movie wore off.

Robocop 3 - I bought the boxset last year and looking back at it I don't know how I could've enjoyed this at all on 1st viewing. I still like the hokey ending when Robo flies in on the jet pack to save the citizens though.

I feel the same way about Batman and Robin. As I left the theater my parents felt that there where too many stories and characters in there. But I felt MR Freeze was awesome(I was a kid). Although even as a kid I wondered why it couldn't be more like the Animated Series version that was actually WAS cold.
As for Forever, I managed to miss it until it hit TV. My thoughts on it are simple: you can't have both. You can have a guy who is moping the death of his parents one minute, is having a blast stealing Batman's car the next, smiling the whole time, and soon after is again angry and blaming Batman for everything. I mean, a character can't be angst ridden AND comic relief at the same time. For whatever else faults one could find in the movie, that one cemented my opinion of it.

Star Trek Generations had me fooled for a long time. I think I resisted taking a long hard look at how stupid it is because I didn't need another Star Trek movie to hate.

Daredevil - Don't know why I liked this the first time I saw it.
Hulk (2003) - I think with this one I deluded myself into thinking it was good because of all the hype.
Superman Returns - Hate is a strong word for this, but the second time I saw it, the novelty of seeing Superman on the big screen wore off and I realized it was just a guy playing catch with large objects for two and a half hours.
Planet of the Apes (2001) - I was 12 or 13 when I saw it. That's probably why I liked it then.

The first time I thought "The Village" was a decent movie with very good moments. But a second view showed me a piece of crap. Shyamalan is just about the end twist, when it's done you find out everything previous is just crap.

SW: The Phantom Menace -after waiting 16 years for a new SW movie I got dissapointed after watching it countless times on DVD and realized that the movie is slow, boring, the CGI backgrounds are distracting, the acting is stiff save for Liam Neeson and killing off Darth Maul was the biggest mistake Lucas ever did.
Batman & Robin -I admit the star power is what made me like it a little bit but after looking back how bad the story is, the neon Gotham City, the naked male statues and the ridiculous dialogue.

Seriously, you hate all three of them?
Is it so hard to believe? None of the films hold up over time.

This thread reminds me of this picture from Cracked. I'm not saying anyone posting here is guilty of what's on the guide, I just think it's a funny picture.

They may have raised the bar, but that shouldn't diminish you liking comic book movies that are not up to their high standard. If that's how we all judged movies, people would be hating on practically every movie out there.
Do you hate X-Men 1 and 2, Batman Begins, the Burton Batman movies etc?

Home Alone, I probably liked it the first time but it gets boring after you know in real life no kid is that bright to outwit burglers.
And don't get me started on Home Alone 2, how stupid are the parents to lose their child a second time and in the city no less?
