I always find this thread title odd to me. I loved high school. I hated school up until high school really. I didn't really become popular until the 8th grade (last year of middle school). Every day since school has started I've wished that I could go back to high school. I'd love to re-live every second of it.

Not going to lie, high school's hell. I lived through it and thank god I'm out. I had little to no friends in high school. The only friends I did have I made before high school. Never had a girl friend in high school either. I was really shy. I was a loner and to make it worse I was shoved around and beaten down. Felt like I would never fit in anywhere and that my life would be limited to staying home a lot and going out only from time to time...

But, here's the good news. That's high school. Once you get out of there, everything will change. I can guarantee it, just need to be open and ready for it. Read through this thread and you kinda remind me of when I was going through the same experiences. College has been a lot better and I mean exponentially better. I've made friends, I'm somewhat involved and hell dude I even got invited to a HOUSE PARTY.

What I'm trying to say is, yeah high school's tough. But, you make it though I can guarantee you that things will get leagues better. Keep swinging spidey, the radioactive spider bites once you graduate.

I actually think middle school was worse than high school just because I went to private school, and when you're an awkward and unathletic scholarship nerd surrounded by a bunch of rich little blondes and jocks, it's hell. But in high school I learned to come out of my shell, embrace my geekiness, stop gossiping (which was easy because I have so many people in my school that I hardly know anyone), and ignore the stupid people, and I was so much happier! I know it's way easier said than done, but you'll be so much better off if you learn not to care what those immature idiots (AKA 90% of high school students) think of you. And if that doesn't work, just focus on your school work rather than your social life because even though it seems to be lasting forever right now, it'll be over before you know it. The only thing that really gets me about high school now is having to wake up at 5:30 every morning and working my butt off because I'm an overachiever and do a bunch of clubs and APs and such. Oh, and gym class. Ugh.

I would just be nice to people but dont go out of your way to be nice. If they ask you for help with something, help them. Then forget it ever happened. If someone gives you trouble, have a sarcastic comeback ready. Be Spidey as he faces a P.O.ed bad guy. (Yes, I just said that.)

Example: When I was a freshmen in the stone age, a guy said to me "Nice glasses. You're a full fledged ******." I looked at him and said "Yeah? That ear ring makes you look real manly, too." Or just curse em out. That works too.

As my psychologist always said "If someone sticks their finger in your face, bite it off."

Indeed, and a little under 2 months now until it's over.

It helps to remember that every other person in your school, age group, etc...is facing the same exact type of growing pains that you are. You may feel like an island, but you're not alone. Every kid in hs is dealing with something; chances are, it's more complex that it really should be due to the contemporary nature of American society. Compound that with a school environment that's full of irony in many ways and it's not easy. My advice to you would be to relax try to stay positive about your daily situations. Concerning your high school days, above all, get used to the idea of them. Realize that they're not forever, you've completed almost half of them, and your general outlook will determine whether your disposition towards hs improves; not the actual circumstance.

I used to get made fun of a lot. Once I started beating peoples a$$es it stopped. Sometimes you just have to come out of your shell. Don't try to be something you aren't, just be comfortable with who you are.

This really is the best possible advice there is. You really have to say **** everyone else. Love who you are and be comfortable being yourself. Don't do anyone else, just do you.

Do the things you like and enjoy, hang out with the people you are friends with and don't be afraid of putting yourself out there. Kill them with kindness. And if they are jerks, which plenty of them are. **** them, they are douches and will grow up with time and learn they were jerks or they will be douches for the rest of their lives.

High school really should be some fun years. I played sports, got laid, had a job, got a car, hung out with friends on the weekends, went to the beach, parties, did stupid stuff that was dumb at the time but I didn't realize it and now I can look back and laugh at it.

Enjoy your life and live it to the fullest. Don't waste your time with what other people think. The only thing that matters is your opinion of yourself and it should be a very high one.

Couldn't put it better myself. If you just say "**** what everyone else thinks" it's so much easier. Plus the people who are mean to you are usually the ones who are failing all of their classes and don't have the intelligence to carry out an actual conversation, so they just talk about other people. Think of where they'll be in ten years and you'll feel better. :cwink:

Two of my three room mates are immature douchebags. In high school the only "room mates" I had to worry about were my brothers, but even when we had problems with each other we were always cool at the end of the day. Sometimes I wonder if most college students really do have the maturity level of a six year old except with much filthier minds, or if I merely drew the short straw when I got sorted for room mates.

Its sure as heck better than the "business as usual, dont rock the boat" attitude of my home town. But I didnt like the constant immaturity, the rampant hedonism, the fact that I had to be social when that was the last thing I cared about. Well I would have to say that is more of your issue that it is something wrong with College. Not that College is something great that you should strive for or need or have to do just because society says so. But you said it yourself, you didn't want to be social.

I didnt mean to say that there is something wrong with college. College was very much right for me, as I've never wanted to be anything other than a white collar worker. My sanity really depended on getting my degree, I just felt like college was an example of "trial by fire" for me. I guess for me, "college" means school, studying, learning, bettering myself. For many other people, it means beer, drugs, sex and immaturity. We just had totally different reasons for being there and had nothing in common.

I didnt enjoy it, but I'm glad I did it.

When I was commuting to community college back home, I was doing fine and was in the honor society. However, as soon as I moved into a college dorm for the 4 year school, I got my first D. This semester, I actually failed a class, and it's looking like I might fail a second as well if I don't work my ass off this week. All I really care about now is learning how to use the software I need to get a job, and if I can't get my degree by next spring I'm actually considering exploring the job market without a degree. I'm an animation student anyway, and it's not like people care if you've got a degree when your job is making cartoons.

I wish I could re-do high school. I hated it and was around a lot of horrible people, many of them racist. If I could re-do it, I'd try not to let others affect me so much and just be me. At any rate, high school contains mainly bad memories.

College, on the other hand, was amazing. I miss it constantly. I worked my booty off AND stayed very social.

High school for me was pretty awesome...college has been cool to. I'm lucky though...had a great bunch of friends in high school and we've all stuck together throughout every year in college now as well. I think that's pretty rare, so I feel incredibly fortunate to have been around a group of people who I enjoy for the past 8 years. However I'm ready to be done with my college years. (graduate next month) I made a wrong decision with my major and it was too late, for financial reasons, to switch now. So this past year I've kinda just been "meh" with moving towards my degree. That's just me, and I have been having fun in college don't get me wrong. Lately though I've just been realizing that I'm over the "college" atmosphere. I'm ready to move on and sort of settle back down in my life. Find a job, settle into myself as a person more.

Still going to visit the town a lot though for football and weekend parties. I can get my dose without overdoing it now at least.

I think college is a good place for both the studying and learning and beer and partying. I think both are important aspects of the learning in school and looking back on it, I learned much more outside the classroom than inside. You learn the theory of what you'll be doing at a job in college, not the actual practice of it. I went into a job that had little to do with my major in college and still picked it up quickly.

Right. And college would have been so much better for me if people would go party outside of the dorms and let the rest of us have our quiet. Instead, its party everywhere, all the time. I used to laugh that college needed a "Party Section" and "Non Party Section."

High School is always hell. Only good for me was really P.E. and P.E. II overall. And weights.

Hell, a lot of people don't know this, but 9th-11th I did so bad in school cause my mind was on girls 24/7. I only went to school to check out girls in class. Kid you not. Now my senior year, at the time I wanted to be a screenwriter and I got my hormones in order. Didn't miss a day (11th grade missed over 20+ days) and got a C average overall. Better than my D-/D average first three years. Graduated bottom 10 in class with a 1.6 though.

After Freshman year, if you were on a sports team, you had gym as the last class of the day (I joined both my sports teams Sophmore year though) and it was just practice. I've only layed a brick in school once and that was in 3rd grade.

If someone caught you emptying your bowels in High School, they'd probably do some eff'ed up stuff to you. Like wet the toilet paper or something. A t least in my school, but there is a restroom in one hall that for some reason no one ever goes in. I think it's haunted.

Well we had 3 sets of bathrooms. The old wing, the new wing, and then the locker room. The old wing didn't have any doors on the stalls. But the new wing is where kids went to smoke and do other tomfoolery. So really if you needed to take a dump the only real choice was the locker room stalls. Not many people came up with that though.

I only took a dump once during high school. In freshman year after gym, gym was pretty early in the day and I knew I'd never make it through the day without taking a dump. So after gym went in the stalls. Someone saw my feet under the door and everyone made a big deal, like they'd never knew people had to $#!t before that time or I was beating off in there.

I am going to be a senior in the fall, and I just wanted to say that high school is only hell, if you make it hell. Everyone gets picked on Spider-ManHero12. You just have to deal with it, and try and become more social. I got picked on my Freshman year, and it sucked at times. You really just need to stand up for yourself, and make as many friends as possible. I remember throughout Junior High I didn't have many friends. I hated junior high because of bullies, etc. But as 8th grade came rolling around I made many friends. Finally towards the end of Freshman year people really started to know me and I haven't had a problem since. I have never done sports in school, or joined any clubs, but I still had a blast. High school is going to be fun, if YOU make it fun.

You say that people make fun of you because of your nerdiness? Try not to act as nerdy. I'm not asking you to re-form, but try and blend in with everyone else. If you're comfortable with being yourself but risked getting picked on, that's your own fault to be honest. :facepalm That's really my only advice. Try and be as social as possible. If someone makes fun of you, just laugh it off. Don't let them get to you, and make it seem like you have a DGAF attitude. (Don't give a ****). Just have fun. I hope you get more lucky during your junior year.

Man, let me tell you something. I came from an inner city high school, where pretty much anyone in my group was messed with, if not by the students, then by the faculty [we kinda stood out]. We were taught half-assed by a lot of teachers and to this day I'm paying for it. But if I could go back and do it all over again, well, you can bet your Will Smith inspired new name that I'd be a freshman again faster than Paris Hilton puts out. You think it's really bad now, and it's not. You think things are so different, but it isn't. You're going to find that when you get out of school, you're going to miss some of the same things you hate right now.

Well thats good for you but all seriousness i will not miss high school. I went to 3 different high schools in the last 3 years. This upcoming year will be my first back to back school year in my high school career.

By the way reason i switched was cause of tuititon problems and also another was because the second school i went too was terrible. But anyways i'm not gonnam iss nothing. Nothing to miss. School became boring and lame. All i care for now is the education. Nothing esle. Will not miss high school.

Academically speeking, high school had the easiest school work out of all the different grade levels.

The only thing I regret about high school is how much I didn't say about/to other people, far too many things left unsaid, positive or negative.

Never got picked on in high school or anything too severe, just extremely disliked the negative atmosphere of the place, the bit*hing teachers, the budget cuts, the students who were always crying "poor me, and school sucks".

There were a few times we interacted, but truth be told, I was nervous as hell. One time, I'll never forget it. It was cold out, so the cheerleaders were doing their practice upstairs, where we wrestlers usually had our practice. We were doing our whistle drills [coach blows the whistle X times, and we do X activity, Y for Y and so on], and we ended up finishing off with pull-ups. The girls finished their practice, and they wanted to do some too. She ended up coming to me asking me to help her with them. My arms were already sore as hell thanks to just doing 40 pull ups, and combined 150 pushups, but you can bet your black-clad ass that I made sure to hold her waist tight as she was doing her pull ups.

Well, all I can say is good luck. I'm going into my Junior year and I hate high school, but that's just me. I mean, you get to carry your back packs around, you have more responsibility over yourself, etc.

Like Drakon...I was in an inner city school and a public school system. I got completely ripped off on my education. Everyone gets picked on in high school. It doesn't matter who you are...that is life. Life craps on you every chance it gets. High school is training to what you will have to expect in real life. Because those people picking on you and giving you crap? Guess what...they are going to grow up and have to work...just like you...and when you go to work you will be around the same jerk offs except you will be getting paid.

So if you are not going to stand up for yourself now or just let peoples crap roll off your back, well, life is going to be rough.

Just shrug your shoulders and pay no attention to people who give you crap. Because nine times out of ten the people who give you crap in school are 1000 times more insecure about themselves and fearful inside than you are...they just take their insecurities out on others because that's all that their parents taught them to do.

Just focus on your school work and getting into a good college and a good education. That way you can get a good job and follow your dreams...and once you are out of high school...guess what? It does get better. It gets a lot better. But remember...high school is a glimpse into how people will act around you in real life. Look around you and remember...most of these people who pick on you and give you crap will probably have very miserable lives.

Good luck.

Y'know...I cant really feel bad for people who get picked on by everyone. Why? Well, theres a reason why.

If you're small, acne ridden, talk like a chipmonk with a broken nose, and are super shy....stop. Stop being like that.

See, I'm not a popular fella....but not unpopular. Only one dude picked on me, and everyone hates him anyway. But I got the **** over it, and moved on. My problems are dealing with fitting in, but I AM working on it. I'm trying to revamp my personality. It wont make me different from myself, but make myself more interesting.

I'm very shy, with anxity problems....but y'know what? I have two choices. Be all quiet, in the back, or just let myself be free. Dont worry about what people will think. Just be "cool".

If your getting picked on....find out why...and change it. And i'm speaking to all the picked on kids. Not just one.

People play games and pretend to be people they are not to be popular or get something from you. They might look happy on the outside but inside they are damaged goods.

I have found that the people who accept you, acne and all, are the people you can count on. The ones who pretend to be nice and all, usually have an ulterior motive or play games.

Don't worry about what others think about you. Find happiness with yourself, accept yourself and you will be more confident and happy. Then you will find people will like you and respect you for who you really are.

Freshman year~ Just basically the same, except there's older students around
Sophomore year was my awkward phase, that was the year I broke out of my shell and made tons of new friends so I was overwhelmed. From only 12 friends to 50+ friends.
Junior Year was just pure hell: tests, drama, and even more homework.
Senior Year was my favorite, the easy year of my entire high school life.

My advice to you: Just be who you really are, join some clubs with the same interests as yours, and always hang out with at least one or two friend(s) because people tends to bully on solo targets (only if they look weird or just has a quality that attracts bullies).

It sure as hell is. Freshman year was my worst year in school. So damn stressful I lost 15 pounds. I've managed to gain it back from correcting my eating habits and working out and to just plain growing.

But Sophomore year was easy as hell. I didn't get alot of homework and didn't have to study every night like I did in freshman year. And actually having study halls helped because I got none in freshman year. If you take a foreign language you have a Regents (it's a big state exam in NY state) and the regents exams are easy as hell. And don't get too worked up about finals. Teachers make it out to be the apocolypse, but keep your cool and study hard and you should do fine. I was worried about my living and spanish exams, and they were easy. Best final exam grades I got were this year.

And now that you're in the top three last years, you do a feel alot more independent and free. It's a cool feeling. Plus, hot older high school chicks.

Freshman year was terrible. I'm bad at Math on a good day, so of course I have a terrible teacher. Only reason I passed was because I always did homework and participated. And my English teacher gave us a crapload of work. Granted, it was an honors class, but still.

Sophomore year was when things started improving, and by senior year I enjoyed the hell out of myself (once SAT's were done, at any rate). It's about who you surround yourself with, and how you apply yourself.
