View Full Version : Enough With The Bad Spoof Movies!!!!!!!
Chris Wallace

Why do we need 3 mindless spoofs in the same year? They're coming out so close together they're starting to overlap. What was the point in making a superhero movie spoof, actually entitled "Superhero Movie", when the genre was spoofed in the last two movies AND the next one? What the hell do the Hulk, Hancock & Iron Man have to do with disaster movies? When was the last time they even made a disaster movie? And more importantly, who thinks this #$%*:cmad: is funny?

Because they're cheapto make and are an instant money maker for the studios.
Quick small profit.

So people are actually going to see these things?
I figured everybody would've stopped after "Scary Movie 2" wasn't funny.

You'd think so, wouldnt you. I guess there's no accounting for taste.
One things for sure - Spoof films sure arent as good as they used to be.
I doubt that any of these 'filmakers' have even heard of 'A Fistfull of Yen'.

Let's not forget, argueably one of the funniest movies ever made, 'Airplane', was a spoof.

I'm not really knocking spoofs in general. BUt they're coming out too close together & regurgitating the same unfunny, uninspired bullcrap over & over. Ok-we'll make fun of the same movies, mock this pop star, that pop star-there's just no point to it. "Airplane" stood alone, & it wasn't dependant on the type of repetitive lame gags that we saw in ALL of the "Scary Movies".
The Apatow Crew
08-08-2008, 01:39 AM
but the scary movies and the movie moies are from different people.
I think the people who do the scary movies are a little bit better.
SM 3 and 4 are from the people who made airplane.
Chris Wallace
08-12-2008, 02:53 AM
I thought the first "Scary Movie" was somewhat funny; it went downhill from there.
Because 99.9% of the general movie going audience wouldnt know a good movie if it raped their family.
Even the clinically retarded need films.

You know what I mean?

There's only been one funny joke in the entire "Movie" Movie franchise.
In Epic Movie when the chosen ones go up against the enemy horde.... to be viciously killed very easily like what should happen in all of those 'special kids have a destiny' stories.
Manic

The Scary (and Superhero) Movie franchise became unwatchable as soon as the Wayans family jumped ship. For all of the bashing against the Wayans family I do, I can't help but admit that things somehow become less funny as soon as they walk away from them (In Living Color is another example).
As for the Movie Movies (from the idiots who brought us Spy Hard)...
I saw Date Movie, laughed maybe twice in the whole movie, and walked away from that franchise permanently. Every trailer for every new movie they put out looks worse than the previous movie. I don't know anybody who sees these movies or buys the DVDs, but they're somehow turning enough of a profit to make more. It's sickening.
Those 2 franchises have actually tainted my view of spoof movies so badly, I didn't watch Walk Hard until months after it came out on DVD. And that movie was awesome.

...Tropic Thunder seems good...
Manic
08-13-2008, 03:11 PM
Is Tropic Thunder really a spoof? I admit I thought it would be when I first saw the posters and commercials, but the plot is more about "actors having to pretend to be the characters they play from a serious movie within a movie."
Ziggyman
08-13-2008, 03:13 PM

Oh, but it's such an obvious choice. The number of movies about dancing we've had in recent years is quickly catching up to the number of superhero movies.
Step Up
Step Up 2 The Streets
You Got Served
How She Move
Stomp The Yard
Take The Lead
Dig back a few more years and you've got:
Save The Last Dance (and its DTV sequel)
Bring It On
Breakin'
Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo
Billy Elliott
Footloose
Saturday Night Fever
Honey
Get someone GOOD to make that movie, and I'd be all over it. Mel Brooks isn't dead yet. He can make it.

If it makes you feel better, I doubt the Date/Epic/Disaster Movie guys would make it. They don't have the focus necessary to make a movie with a single focused parody. "Dance movies? Let's make another random pop culture joke!" From what I've read, the only actual disaster film parodied in Disaster Movie is An Inconvenient Truth.
The Scary/Superhero movie guys have the focus necessary to stick to a single genre, but they suffer from SJS (S****y Joke Syndrome).
Speaking of horrible parody movies, did anybody see High School High? *shudder*

That's my point. Nothing I've seen in the commercials has ANYTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the actual genre they're supposed to be spoofing. "Iron Man" is not a disaster movie. "Hulk" is not a disaster movie. Neither are "Juno" or "Zohan". And while I found "Indiana Jones" & "Wanted' to be disastrous, they are in no way disaster movies. It seems like they're just throwing this one together for the hell of it.

Don't blame me for stating the obvious. Dance-themed movies come out every other week, and nobody counts Kickin' It Old School as the definitive dance parody movie. It was bound to happen.
I will, however, say that the Wayans family (I can't say "brothers" because their nephew joined them on this one) has one main advantage over the Date/Epic/Disaster/Spartans guys: they keep their parodies focused. Scary Movie was pretty much just Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Scary Movie 2 was pretty much just The Haunting. I've watched the trailer, and although it doesn't look very funny, the only real parody I can point out is Save the Last Dance.
