View Full Version : Guilty pleasure movies

They're badly acted, badly scripted, badly put together, and/or just plain silly-and yet for reasons you probably can't explain, you still enjoy them. What are yours?

One is...Batman Forever...Everything besides Tommy I thought was okay...

Super Mario Bros- Love it, it feels like those weird movies from the 80's like Buckaroo Banzie. Just out there in concept.

Chris Wallace
08-13-2008, 09:59 PM
Okay. I claim "Batman Forever"as well. But I liked Tommy up until "Blind, stupid, simple. doo-dah, clueless luck!" That's when he blew it.

I loved Harlem Nights 3 generations of African American comics (Murphy, Pryor, Foxx) in one film. and the fight between Murphy and Della Reese is comedy gold!

This.

Why would anyone feel guilty for something they enjoy?

Chris Wallace
08-25-2008, 01:40 AM
I'm not suggesting that you would feel guilty; but rather, that you enjoy it despite the fact that it's not exactly what you'd consider a high-quality movie. There's no shame in liking cheesiness.

Going Ape w/ Danny Devito and Tony Danza.
The Rookie w/Clint Eastwood & Charlie Sheen
only the sequels to Planet of the Apes
Tarzan, the Ape Man-w/Bo Derek-mind numbingly awful, but train wreck watchable
the first King Kong remake, hey I got a monkey theme going here, let me break it up a bit.
Jumper-again, terrible, but completely watchable.
Any of the 60s Bond movie ripoffs, you know, the ones with James Coburn and Dean Martin which names I do not fully recall.
Speaking of Bond ripoffs, how about Never Say Never Again?
Star Trek V, not as bad as everyone says it is, except for Uhura's-25-years-too-late-strip tease.
Midnight Madness, with Michael J. Fox!
Heavy Metal 2000, besmirching the Heavy Metal name, but still watchable.
Batman Forever-such potential, could've been the best Batman movie, but completely killed by Shoemaker.
Showgirls-truly awful, but you just cant turn away from naked Elizabeth Berkley and Gina Gershon.
Cyborg 2-Sequel to a bad Van Damme movie is a low budget Blade Runner knockoff, but it has the dude who played Casey Jones, and a teenage Angelina Jolie! I'm so guilty!

Starship Troopers is one of the great guilty pleasure "you know it's dumb and it knows it too" movies, IMO

To be fair Starship Troopers was a pretty clever satire underneath all that over the top testosterone crap. Great movie.

I would say Daredevil but I don't feel guilty about liking it. It's a great movie (apart from that god awful playground scene). Most of the hate for it is simply because people don't like Affleck or Farrell I think.

Van Wilder and How High are guilty pleasures. And oh yea Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back is the King of all guilty pleasures
