The Democrats will obviously win more seats in the Senate, they'll probably lose a few in the House because some of the seats they won in 2006 are naturally Republican (like Mike Foley's district), but they'll win some others to make it up.
That they completely don't deserve victory since they've proven to be as completely ineffective as the Republicans in Congress. Nancy Pelosi is an awful House Speaker and nothing but a partisan hack.
I voted Democrat in 2006 and I won't do so again this year because they don't even deserve my vote. The Republicans haven't changed a bit so they don't deserve my vote either. I'm either going to vote third party or no one in Congress this year.

The Democrats will continue to control Congress. In the House, they will keep the majority of the seats they won in 2006 (including Mahoney and Lampson) and they will pick up at least ten more seats from competitive districts across the country. In the Senate, they will keep their only two competitive seats (NJ and LA), and they will at least win Virginia, Alaska, New Mexico and New Hampshire. Colorado, Minnesota, Mississippi and Oregon could also go for the Democrats.
It doesn't even seem like this should be up for discussion. The Democrats will be in control til at least 2010. Now if Obama wins and sucks or there is a huge scandal...things could change then.

You forgot to put Lemmings...in your options above...
I think it's quite obvious that the Democrats will expand their majority.
Who the heck voted for the Republicans? They must not be paying attention!

You gotta give congress a chance. what were you expecting them to accomplish with a razor thin majority in the senate, when you need 60 votes in order for a bill to pass. You also have to consider the fact that Bush is President.
They didn't have the votes necessary to end the Iraq war, repeal the tax cuts, or do anything really.
They did raise the minimum wage, which honestly is probably more than everything republicans did in several years, with a lot more power to do it with.
I think it's quite obvious that the Democrats will expand their majority.

I did! I'm betting on the upset, stakes are high but the return is HUGE! It's like Bett'n on the horses. :word:

Yeah, until you realize that Raising the Minimum wage is actually bad for this country and the Unemployment rate actually went UP because of it. Hmm....
Small Business Salaries is not unlimted supply, if you mandate a raise for people that haven't earned it, others will get fired. Why do you think that Employment for Teens across the country is at an ALL TIME low?

They don't deserve a chance. They know that they lacked the votes necessary to get their agenda fully passed. They should have attempted to work with the Republican opposition and compromised instead of pathetically bicker with them. They even go on freaking vacation when work is needed to be done. Even worse, we have a partisan hack as Speaker of the House.

Which was completely pointless and unnecessary because the states were already doing it on their own and the states that didn't were most likely eventually going to.

If someone will just get Pelosi out of Washington FOR GOOD.......I'll be one happy camper.....she is a *****, and usually I use that as a compliment, not in this case.

Republicans have no chance of getting Congress back....but I think that reality might make McCain's candidacy seem more attractive.

The Democrats will remain in solidly in control of the House, while picking up a few additional ones.
In the Senate, I think Mary Landreiu will hold her seat down in Louisiana. Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, and New Mexico are ensured. Alaska and Mississippi are in a good position. Oregon is within reach. MN will depend on whether or not Al Franken can convince people he is a legitament candidate. So I see a 4-7 seat pick-up for the Democrats.

Norm Coleman is one of the worst Senators in Congress, and Al Franken is probably the worst candidates to go up against him... I'm starting to question the collective intelligence of Minnesotans...

There's a difference though between the positions the Republicans were in when they were in charge and the Democrats.
The Republicans had control of both the White House and Congress and gained seats until the 2006 election. They had 55 members in the Senate, plus Dick Cheney. And no need to argue with the President. And they got rid of the Democratic leader in Congress. That not only made the Republicans incredibly cocky, but also lessened the need for Republicans to work and compromise with the Democrats.
The Democrats right now are in a very different position. They only have 49 members in Congress. The only reason why they even have a majority is because two independents caucus with them. Dick Cheney is still President of the Senate. George W. Bush is still President of the United States, and their majority is barely a majority. When you're put into a position like that, you have no choice but to work and compromise with the opposition.
Considering that they will gain the Senate seats in Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, New Hampshire, and possibly Alaska, the need for compromise and working with the Republicans obviously lessens. And if Barack Obama wins the Presidential election that need will lessen even more. But right now, it is a necessity. That is reality.

Minnesota should have been a seat the Democrats were guaranteed. But instead they nominated a comedian with the reputation of being an ultra-liberal. That has to be one of the dumbest moves ever. They should have nominated a moderate and enjoy the repeated success of their 2006 strategy in Minnesota :o

So, according to Rasmussen, Mary Landrieu has a 16-point lead on her challenger. It looks more and more likely that she'll hold on to her seat.

AND... even better... Saxby Chambliss might face a close race in Georgia, as he is only up six points on his challenger:
