Here are what some celebs think about Palin:
Bening was also asked about Thursday night’s impending debate between vice-presidential candidates Joseph Biden and Sarah Palin.
“I just want to be educated. I am a student of politics and these are our experts and we deserve to hear everything — especially from Governor Palin because we don’t know that much about her,” Bening said.
“I am feeling really good about this Sarah Palin,” Carrey said, “because I used to live in Canada and you could to see Alaska from there. So I know everything there is to know about her."

Here are what the late-night comedians said about Sarah Palin:
"Last night during an interview on CBS, Sarah Palin said, 'One of my best friends is a lesbian and I love her dearly,'" Conan O'Brien said. "After hearing this, Bill Clinton said, 'Prove it.'"
Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" called the series of CBS interviews a "dramady."
"I love this show! It's like the first season of 'Lost' only it makes less sense," the Comedy Central host said.
Here's more political comedy from Wednesday's late-night television:
"It's been reported that John McCain is taking an herbal supplement to improve his memory. Apparently McCain is having trouble remembering why he picked Sarah Palin."
— O'Brien, "Late Night"
"Great day for Sarah Palin. She has been practicing for the big debate tomorrow night. Palin's staff has tried to find a stand-in to pretend to be Joe Biden. But so far all they've come up with is a tree stump. Which actually sounds about right."
— Craig Ferguson, "Late Late Show"
"This is for all the marbles, this debate tomorrow night. And Sarah Palin is nothing if not diligent. She's working hard on preparing for the debate with Joe Biden. Earlier today in Arizona, we just heard, she shot a donkey."
— Letterman, "Late Show"
"Now we all know Gov. Palin has a lot of foreign policy experience because from Alaska, she can see Russia. More to the point, Russia is on the other side of the international dateline from Alaska. It's tomorrow there. So when Palin looks at it, she's actually seeing the future."
— Stephen Colbert, "The Colbert Report"
"The vice presidential debate is tomorrow night. Joe Biden, already gearing up. I understand he went to the hair salon, told the guy to put a little more on top ... And Sarah Palin she's getting ready for tomorrow's debate, too. I understand she now knows all three branches of government."
— Jay Leno, "Tonight" show
"Teams of technicians have been working around the clock trying to figure out how to run an Internet cable directly into the back of (Palin's) skull."
— Jimmy Kimmel, "Jimmy Kimmel Live"

Estimates show Palin assets top $1 million
By SHARON THEIMER and BRETT J. BLACKLEDGE, Associated Press Writers Thu Oct 2, 3:14 AM ET
WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin and her husband have pieced together a uniquely Alaskan income that reached comfortably into six figures even before she became governor, capitalizing on valuable fishing rights, a series of land deals and a patchwork of other ventures to build an above-average lifestyle.
Add up the couple's 2007 income and the estimated value of their property and investments and they appear to be worth at least $1.2 million. That would make the Palins, like Democratic vice presidential rival Joe Biden and his wife Jill, well-off but not nearly as wealthy as multimillionaire couples John and Cindy McCain and, to a lesser extent, Barack and Michelle Obama.
One measure of financial health: While there is a home loan, Palin reported no personal credit card debt on her most recent financial report as Alaska governor. That compares to average household credit card debt among Americans of $9,840 last year.
A more complete picture will come when Sarah Palin outlines her personal finances in federal paperwork in coming days. It will include details of any mortgage debt and at least rough dollar totals for bank accounts and investments.
Palin this week characterized herself as "an everyday, working-class American" who knows how it feels when the stock market takes a hit.
The Palins' total income last year was split almost evenly between Sarah Palin's white-collar job and her husband's blue-collar work. Sarah Palin's salary as governor was $125,000; Todd Palin took in $46,790 as a part-time oil production operator for BP Alaska in Prudhoe Bay, plus $46,265 in commercial fishing income and $10,500 in Iron Dog snowmachine race winnings. These figures do not include nearly $17,000 in per diem payments Palin received for 312 nights spent in her own home since she was elected governor; she also has received $43,490 to cover travel costs for her husband and children.
In addition, each member of the Palin family received $1,654 in state oil royalties paid to all Alaskans.
The Palins' assets seem enviable: a half-million-dollar home on a lake with a float-plane at the dock, two vacation retreats, commercial-fishing rights worth an estimated $50,000 or more and an income last year of at least $230,000. That compares to a median income of $64,333 for Alaskans and $50,740 for Americans in 2007, according to the Census Bureau.
But in Alaska, scarce roads make private planes commonplace, it's typical to spend a month or two fishing commercially, and wilderness acreage is so plentiful the state has sold loads' worth stake-your-claim style. So, it's often the finer points that matter: How old is the airplane? Where exactly is the fishing spot? Is the house on a paved road?
Land itself doesn't necessarily translate to wealth, said Tom Hawkins of Anchorage, who paid about $2,000 for a five-acre parcel miles from the nearest road, best reached by snowmachine.
"I've got a stunning parcel overlooking a river," Hawkins said. "I took my wife to it. And she stood up and looked out at the stunning view and said, 'Dear, what are we going to do with it?'"
The Palins' main residence, a large two-story house on Lake Lucille in Wasilla, draws much of its value from its prime position along a paved road and float-plane accessible lake, said Darcie Salmon, a local real estate agent. He said lakefront land is plentiful in Alaska, but lakefront land along paved roads isn't.
The Palins' home, tucked behind a wooded field, is off Wasilla's main road, Parks Highway, a mostly four-lane road cluttered with restaurants, bars, retail stores, offices, grocery stores and big-box outlets such as Target. A store-bought "no trespassing" sign is posted near the entry to an unmarked, private gravel drive that winds about 100 yards to the lakefront home. A neighbor's property has an old metal gate at its entrance with a sign warning, "Enter at your own risk."
The Palins' four-bedroom, four-bath house, nearly 3,500 square feet, sits on just over two acres behind a tall wood-plank privacy fence that runs along one side of the property. It's one of the newest homes in the Snider subdivision lining Lake Lucille and is assessed at $552,000 — more than twice the value of a neighboring two-acre lot with a much smaller, older wood-frame home.
Todd Palin built the house with friends who were contractors, he said in a recent television interview.
The house is worth substantially more than the Palins' starter home, a three-bedroom, two-bath house house built in 1984 on the far western boundary of Wasilla. The quiet, wooded neighborhood was developed about three miles from the city center, with half-acre lots and space for young families.
In addition to the Lake Lucille home, the Palins own recreational property in two remote areas accessible by plane, all-terrain vehicle or snowmachine.
The Palins invested in five lots along Safari Lake, an undeveloped area near Denali State Park. They bought the property, once owned by the state's Department of Natural Resources and valued at $30,000 in assessment records, with friends Scott and Deborah Richter in 2004 and 2005. The Richters have since divorced.
With other friends, the Palins own a cabin on five acres southwest of Wasilla and the Iditarod National Historic Trail. The land and cabin are assessed at $55,000; property records do not show what the Palins paid for their share.
The Palins own snowmachines and an airplane. Todd Palin has a 1958 Piper float plane that he said has been in his family for about 20 years.
Though old, such planes remain in wide use. Palin's plane would be worth from about $38,000 to $78,000 depending on its condition, said Boyd Newman, owner of West One Aircraft Sales in Caldwell, Idaho.
Other family assets include Todd Palin's shoreside lease and commercial fishing permit to harvest salmon from Bristol Bay each season. Last year, the Palins took in $46,265 commercial fishing for sockeye salmon over about a month.
Todd Palin said he purchased his permit from his grandfather in the 1970s. A limited number of permits and shoreline leases have been issued, and the rights to them are often passed down through families or sold. Holders pay a fee each year to renew them.
Palin's is worth about $30,000, a shoreside lease on Coffee Point, where Palin's set-net site is located, is worth about $20,000, and Palin's skiff and gear are likely worth another $20,000, according to estimates by Paul Piercey, a broker with Dock Street Brokers in Seattle, which handles sales of fishing permits, boats and shoreside leases.
Palin's fishing spot is considered good but not great, Piercey said. And the work is backbreaking. Palin has said he expects to earn 68 cents per pound for this summer's catch.
"When you get up in the morning, your fingers are so swollen that you have to stick them in a bucket of icewater just to get movement back again" and ease the pain, said Hawkins, who fished on Bristol Bay one year.
Hawkins is former chief operating officer of the Bristol Bay Native Corp. and former chief executive of Choggiung Ltd., two native corporations in which Todd Palin, who is part Yup'ik Eskimo, is a shareholder, along with the Palin children. The Palins are among about 8,000 shareholders in BBNC and among about 1,200 shareholders in Choggiung Limited, Hawkins said.
Sarah Palin reported Todd Palin collecting $266 and each child $21 in dividends last year from BBNC, and a total of $16.50 from Choggiung Limited.
Todd Palin is still a BP employee. Company spokesman Steve Rinehart declined to describe Palin's status beyond confirming his employment. Palin's schedule is one week on, one week off, Palin said in a recent television interview.
Palin previously left BP in the 1990s to run Valley Polaris, a snowmachine, four-wheeler and watercraft dealership he pursued with a friend and business partner. They sold the business in 1997; public records do not show whether it was at a profit or a loss. At the time, Sarah Palin was earning about $61,000 a year as Wasilla mayor.
The Polaris dealership was among three business ventures the Palins explored; the others never took off. Palin's financial disclosure reports do not say how much if any money the Palins invested in the business ventures or real estate, or what if any profit they made on sales.
Sarah Palin formed a consulting business called "Rouge Cou" — French for redneck — but didn't pursue it.
The Palins teamed with another couple, Ray and Carolin Wells of Anchorage, to start a car wash in Anchorage, but it was never built. Carolin Wells described the Palins as silent partners she believes initially paid half the money to buy the land. Around the time Sarah Palin began considering a run for governor, the Palins reduced their stake to 40 percent.
Barely a year into the land ownership, the man lined up to operate the car wash backed out, and since neither couple wanted to run it, they decided to sell the land and move on, Carolin Wells said. She couldn't recall the purchase or sales prices of the land, but believes she and her husband made a modest profit and the Palins broke even.
The couples let their state paperwork lapse on the venture, Anchorage Car Wash LLC, resulting in a letter threatening to dissolve the corporation. The letterhead carried Gov. Palin's name on it.
The deal was among several involving undeveloped land the Palins have engaged in over the years.
The Palins purchased a parcel on Beaverhouse Lake in Big Lake in 2003 and sold it in 2004 for an undisclosed amount. The land has been assessed at $14,000 the past three years.
The Palins sold nearly five acres of undeveloped waterfront property on the northeast shore of Wasilla Lake in 2005 to a local developer. The sales price wasn't disclosed. The land now is subdivided into five parcels, with two waterfront lots, two others behind those, and a commercial lot. Duane Mathes, a local real estate agent showing the property for the owner who bought it from the Palins, said the leveled lots are listed for $149,500 each.
Salmon, who was mayor of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough that includes Wasilla while Palin was Wasilla mayor, recalled that as mayor, Sarah Palin shared many of his pro-development views, and said the Palins' land acquisitions weren't unusual.
"A lot of Alaskans own a lot of land," Salmon said, "and if you're bright, you buy land in the path of progress."

Actually, it looks like Troopergate will continue. The judge upheld the subpoenas:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/02/palin.trooper.investigation/index.html
Subpoenas upheld in Palin trooper investigation
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- An Alaska judge refused Thursday to throw out subpoenas for members of Gov. Sarah Palin's administration in the State Legislature's investigation of her firing of her public safety commissioner.
Anchorage Superior Court Judge Peter Michalski rejected a request by Palin's Republican allies to shut down the investigation and ruled that the subpoenas were issued properly by the state Senate Judiciary Committee.
Kevin Clarkson, a lawyer for five GOP lawmakers who filed suit in September, said the date was arbitrarily chosen by the lawmakers overseeing the investigation.
"There's no magic to this October 10 date," Clarkson said. The bipartisan committee that authorized the investigation stated only that it be conducted "in a timely manner," he said.
Peter Maassen, the attorney for the lawmakers leading the inquiry, called the suit "a complete perversion of the process" and said the Legislature had the authority to conduct its investigation.
The former Anchorage prosecutor hired to conduct the investigation, Stephen Branchflower, is slated to complete his report by October 10. In an affidavit filed ahead of Thursday's hearing, he said he has begun to draft his report despite the refusal of several Palin aides and her husband, Todd, to comply with subpoenas issued by the state Senate Judiciary Committee.
Assistant Attorney General Jan Hart DeYoung had asked Michalski to dismiss the subpoenas for top seven members of Palin's administration, arguing that the committee had no authority to issue them.
Palin, now the Republican vice presidential nominee, sacked Public Service Commissioner Walt Monegan in July, citing disagreements over budget issues. But Monegan has said he believes that he was fired because he resisted pressure to fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten.
Palin has denied any wrongdoing, calling Wooten a "rogue trooper" who threatened her family during his divorce from the governor's sister.
Though she initially agreed to cooperate with the Legislature's investigation, her campaign has called it "tainted" by partisan politics since she became Sen. John McCain's running mate and insisted that the state Personnel Board handle any inquiry.
Her aides have criticized the lawmaker overseeing the investigation, Democratic state Sen. Hollis French, for a September 2 interview in which he suggested that the inquiry could yield an "October surprise" for the GOP. Clarkson said French's comments created "an appearance of bias" that violated the state constitution's guarantee of due process.
French was in court Thursday but did not speak during the hearing. Maassen told the judge that "the way to resolve legislative issues is by discussion and persuasion among legislators," not by a lawsuit.
The investigation was originally supposed to be completed October 31. The deadline was moved up three weeks in response to complaints about French's remarks to ABC News.

Biden, however, knew what he was talking about. He had solid figures, factual evidence backing his claims, and a solid delivery.

To be honest I don't see why so many people are poking fun at Palin for believing Dinosaurs and humans roamed the Earth together. I am a Christian so speaking from that view point God created the Earth and man in 6 days which meant that Dinosaurs and humans did roam the earth at the same time now do I think they interacted with one another? Yes up until the fall of man; and it was actually spoke upon in the bible in Job 40:15-24. If you believe in God's word and believe that God created the Earth and all its inhabitants(man and animals) in 6 days then you will believe that Dinosaurs and humans lived during the same time periods and also that the earth is roughly about 6,000 years old.

As far as this "other" woman, Sarah Palin: the child is clueless.
The ONLY reason she was able to "hold her own" as people are saying is because the McCain campaign blocked Biden from directly engaging her in a true debate format. They essentially rigged this debate, so they basically protected her. If it hadn't been for that "electric fencing", she would have been reduced to a stuttering, bumbling fool up there last night. Why? Because Joe would've had his way with her.
This whole thing is a JOKE.

Sarah Palin: A Bridge Too Far
By Bob Beckel
Democratic Strategist/FOX News Political Contributor
Have we reached the point of mediocrity in this country that Sarah Palin’s debate performance was actually acceptable to her supporters (fortunately, Independents in early polls do not share that view) because she didn’t fall on her face, as many conservatives feared? That’s your standard? No wonder there are still some of you who still think George Bush, the very definition of mediocrity, is a good president.
In a word, Palin’s debate performance was awful. She couldn’t win a high school student council election with those homespun platitudes, repetitive inane comments about the war, and most strikingly her refusal to answer not a few but EVERY question put to her that demanded a direct answer.
Every economic question received the tired tax-and-spend slogans Republicans have bellowed for years.
Foreign policy: “You were wrong on the surge.” — That was it. Not one single idea of her own (which is understandable, since she has none). What would you do different in bad economic times like this? “Cut more taxes in Walissa.” The great foreign policy team around McCain-Palin includes Rudy Giuliani, who has about as much foreign policy experience as Madonna, and who history will record mishandled 9/11 in tragic ways.
Palin’s next foreign policy guru? Mitt Romney. — The same stiff-haired flip-flopper whose entire foreign policy experience was pedaling his bike trying to convert Mormons in France. Or Henry Kissinger, who ran illegal wars in Laos and Cambodia to get Richard Nixon re-elected and lied when he told Americans before the 1972 election that, “Peace is at hand” in Vietnam. I suppose if your worldview is seeing Russia from an island in Alaska, and having a border with our threatening neighbor, Canada, you love these guys.
The Economic Crisis: When asked about the current economic crisis, she says nothing because she knows nothing. But she sure talked about her family breakfast table a lot. That’s the table the citizens of Alaska paid per diem for her to sit at for over 300 days as governor. She says electing her and McCain is electing two mavericks who will cut spending, including earmarks. Palin has asked for, and gotten, $1 million every day in pork for Alaska since she’s been governor.
Palin says she and McCain will appoint the most qualified people to government despite party labels. Sort of like your second grade friend you put in charge of Alaska’s agriculture because “she loved cows as a little girl,” Sarah?
A word for Moderator Gwen Ifill: The right intimidated you. You never forced Palin to answer a question directly and not duck; you bent over backward to take her sophomoric answers seriously; and frankly you treated her with girlie gloves.
But that’s not the point. Even with your softball questions she couldn’t get past “aw shucks,” “hockey moms” and “Wasilla values” (which get weirder and weirder).
If the stakes weren’t so high, this obviously nice and fairly articulate person can probably still govern the state of Alaska, where frankly it doesn’t much matter. But vice president of the United States? That is a bridge not only too far, but the real bridge to nowhere.
Scattered amongst the "OMG she didn't failz so completely that people think she's mentally retarded! Teh WINZ!!!111!!!" articles, I'm starting to see more and more like this one, dissecting her performance and what she actually said. More and more people are starting to realize she didn't actually answer any questions.
jag
Palin wasn't embarrassing. And that is a win for the McCain camp. But she needed to give a game changing performance. She did not. That is why she lost. Biden did what he needed to do (keep calm, not flip out, not let her play the victim, and come off as relatable and down to earth). Palin did not do what she needed to do. Therefore Biden wins.

I don't think she was embarrassing in the least. I have to wonder why the first interview on ABC hasn't been shown, and reshown and reshown like the CBS interview. Also, the interviews were 2 hour interviews. Neither of them were bad at all....... Why people were so worried about the debate, I have no idea. She did what she needed to do. I think both did. It was an entertainin debate. Kept me awake, unlike the McCain/Obama debate which put me to sleep a few times.

If you believe in God's word and believe that God created the Earth and all its inhabitants(man and animals) in 6 days then you will believe that Dinosaurs and humans lived during the same time periods and also that the earth is roughly about 6,000 years old.
First, nowhere in the Bible does it say the Earth is 6K years old. This number is only an extrapolation based on events that it describes and the lifespan of the first people that it mentions.
Second, let's take an actual look at Genesis 1:1-2. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was* formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." Nowhere in that verse is a length of time given between "In the beginning" (verse 1) and "Now" (verse 2). For all you know millions of years could have passed between verse 1 and 2. Have you actually read your Bible or are you just taking the beliefs of others at their word? The asterisk is also a common indicator for an alternate word "became" which can imply there was definitely a stretch of time between verse 1 and 2.
Third, the idea that the first humans mentioned in the Bible co-existed with dinosaurs is downright ridiculous. Science has proven itself over and over, and although it is a constant refinement and theories can get disproven, it is generally rock-solid. Without it, we would not have anything electronic (most of which are completely reliable in their operation), electric, or the ability to do what most humans do everyday in the modern world - construction, weather analysis, etc. Fossils of so-called dinosaurs have been found the world over and have been scientifically dated to millions of years ago. Therefore this planet is millions of years old. It is not 6K years old. And you don't need fossils to say Earth is old either - there's plenty of other geological and astronomical evidence that suggests it is.
Anyone who believes their Bible and simultaneously thinks people co-existed with dinosaurs is delusional. The Bible and science don't necessarily contradict each other, it's just that neither gives the full account of what happened millions of years ago and can be seen as helping each other out.
I've also heard of the argument from Christians that "oh God put these fossils on Earth to test our faith!" That is a patently insane idea. I've read the Bible myself and nowhere does God or Jesus "test the faith" of his followers and if you think the God that the Bible describes would actually do such a thing, you need to re-read your Bible - that would be an outright malicious, vindictive act which doesn't have any support in the Bible. Now if you wanted to say "oh Satan put these fossils on Earth to cast doubt among Bible believers" that would be a different idea.
Btw and I've read Job 40:15-24 and if you really think that describes a dinosaur, you're grasping at straws. That could describe quite a few animals which still exist today.

001:031 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was

As I said before you may not believe everything in the bible happened. umm in case you haven't noticed several people have died and been brought back to life on a medical table. Sure there not dead for a while, but same concept. And by the way, your beliefs aside, your book is very far from proof, put all the beliefs you want in it (i have no problems with this) but don't be ignorant to proof when man wrote that book of yours, and man has proven time and time again to use metaphors, and extend the truth... if you know anything about mythology of other cultures, you would know there's several stories in the bible that were even adapted from much older myths. Its no historical secret that men have corrupted others beliefs, and altered the bible for there own gain, making christian holidays fall upon pagan ones for a "much easier" transition is one of them...
And there are PLENTY of Christians (majority) who are able to accept scientific proof and not look at the bible as a history book, but more of spiritual guidance.

unfortunately the rest of the country sees it this way, we will probably never see any president who is not a Christian, nor one who spouts it in there campaign.

All she could do was go on a minute-long rant about how "tolerant" she is. I don't care if she's tolerant, I expect that of ANY politician; what I care about is whether she would support giving those benefits to same-sex couples on a national level, which she couldn't answer at all.
She also pointed out that she believes homosexuality is a choice. :whatever:
jaguarr
10-03-2008, 01:06 PM
then that is all valid Jag because that is part of her beliefs as well. I mean I know you guys don't care to much for her and don't think she is fit to run and I agree but I think her religion should not be a problem. I mean for example if Obama was a Muslim should he not run because of what he believes in and what his faith did to our country or should a man who does not believe in God altogether not even run because he thinks all people that do believe in God is crazy.
Oh, I agree, but it does NOT require an in depth argument between posters over whether the Earth is really 6,000 years old or not. It's superfluous and ultimately irrelevant to the topic at hand; either you agree with creationism or you don't. There's no need to explore that particular subject in depth in here other than stating you agree with her or you don't. At any rate, with Palin, the policies she's in favor of instituting are very much due to her faith; to the point that it becomes about the concept of legislating morality...HER morality. That is dangerous. That's where the discussion lies. So while her personal religious choices and beliefs are a bit of an aside, what she would seek to do with them when it comes to policy and legislation becomes a concern for every single voter, regardless of whether they agree with her or not.
Anyway, I do agree with you that there are far better reasons to not support her and even fear her presence on the national political scene. I WOULD like to ask her, however, if in the event that the Earth really was only 6,000 years old, wouldn't it make sense that the oil she's so gung-ho to drill for in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge was comprised not just of fossilized dinosaur remains but also fossilized human remains? :hehe:

For the first time in my life, my own Mother (who is a die-hard Republican) is refusing to vote in a Presidential election? Why? Because of the incompetent mess that is Sarah Palin and McCain's decision to make her his running mate. It makes sense. If John McCain loves this country as much as he says he does, then he would have taken his own possible mortality into account when picking a running mate, as any president should. It's not something we want to face, but as president, it's your DUTY to make sure that if something happens to you while in office, that the country will be left in good hands. So he picked someone who looks good on camera and hasn't spent five minutes of her life thinking about any national or international issues. He picked someone who, when asked important questions about our economy and foreign policy, either produces the most incoherent BS we've heard since Miss South Carolina or dodges the question completely in an effort to divert attention back to the two or three things she does understand. He picked someone who can't even name ONE publication that she reads pertaining to current issues affecting this country.
As Keith Olbermann pointed out, when asked about a court decision that Sarah Palin disagreed with OTHER than Roe vs. Wade, she responded... Roe vs. Wade.

001:031 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was
very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
As I said before you may not believe everything in the bible happened. For example you may not believe that Red Sea parted or you may not believe the story of Noah's ark or you may not believe in the works of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Op-Ed Columnist
Palin’s Alternate Universe
By BOB HERBERT
Sarah Palin is the perfect exclamation point to the Bush years.
We’ve lived through nearly two terms of an administration that believed it could create its own reality:
“Deficits don’t matter.” “Brownie, you’re doing a heckuva job.” “Those weapons of mass destruction must be somewhere.”
Now comes Ms. Palin, a smiling, bubbly vice-presidential candidate who travels in an alternate language universe. For Ms. Palin, such things as context, syntax and the proximity of answers to questions have no meaning.
In her closing remarks at the vice-presidential debate Thursday night, Ms. Palin referred earnestly, if loosely, to a quote from Ronald Reagan. He had warned that if Americans weren’t vigilant in protecting their freedom, they would find themselves spending their “sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was like in America when men were free.”
What Ms. Palin didn’t say was that the menace to freedom that Reagan was talking about was Medicare. As the historian Robert Dallek has pointed out, Reagan “saw Medicare as the advance wave of socialism, which would ‘invade every area of freedom in this country.’ ”
Does Ms. Palin agree with that Looney Tunes notion? Or was this just another case of the aw-shucks, darn-right, I’m-just-a-hockey-mom governor of Alaska mouthing something completely devoid of meaning?
Here’s Ms. Palin during the debate: “Say it ain’t so, Joe! There you go pointing backwards again ... Now, doggone it, let’s look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future. You mentioned education, and I’m glad you did. I know education you are passionate about with your wife being a teacher for 30 years, and God bless her. Her reward is in heaven, right?”
If Governor Palin didn’t like a question, or didn’t know the answer, she responded as though some other question had been asked. She made no bones about this, saying early in the debate: “I may not answer the questions the way that either the moderator or you want to hear.”
The problem with Ms. Palin’s candidacy is that John McCain might actually win this election, and then if something terrible happened, the country could be left with little more than an exclamation point as president.
After Ms. Palin had woven one of her particularly impenetrable linguistic webs, Joe Biden turned to the debate’s moderator, Gwen Ifill, and said: “Gwen, I don’t know where to start.”
Of course he didn’t know where to start because Ms. Palin’s words don’t mean anything. She’s all punctuation.
This is such a serious moment in American history that it’s hard to believe that someone with Ms. Palin’s limited skills could possibly be playing a leadership role. On the day before the debate, the commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. David McKiernan, made an urgent appeal for more troops, saying the additional “boots on the ground,” as well as more helicopters and other vital equipment, were “needed as quickly as possible.”
The morning after the debate, the Labor Department announced that the employment situation in the U.S. had deteriorated even more than experts had expected. The nation lost nearly 160,000 jobs in September, more than double the monthly losses in July and August.
Conditions are probably worse than even those numbers indicate because the government’s statistics do not yet reflect the response of employers to the credit crisis that has taken such a hold in the last few weeks.
Where is the evidence that Governor Palin even understands these complex and enormously challenging problems? During the debate she twice referred to General McKiernan as “McClellan.” Neither Ms. Ifill nor Senator Biden corrected her.
But after Senator Biden suggested that John McCain’s answer to the nation’s energy problems was to “drill, drill, drill,” Ms. Palin promptly pointed out, as if scoring a point, that “the chant is ‘Drill, baby, drill!’ ”
How’s that for perspective? The credit markets are frozen. Our top general in Afghanistan is dialing 911. Americans are losing jobs by the scores of thousands. And Sarah Palin is making sure we know that the chant is “drill, baby, drill!” not “drill, drill, drill.”
John McCain has spent most of his adult life speaking of his love for his country. Maybe he sees something in Sarah Palin that most Americans do not. Maybe he is aware of qualities that lead him to believe she’d be as steady as Franklin Roosevelt in guiding the U.S. through a prolonged economic downturn. Maybe she’d be as wise and prudent in a national emergency as John Kennedy was during the Cuban missile crisis.
Maybe Senator McCain has reason to believe that it would not be the most colossal of errors to put Ms. Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency.
He’s got just four weeks to share that insight with the rest of us.

The actions of the present administration have quite arguably left the United States so financially crippled and resource depleted in every way including on a military basis that we are actually in a very vulnerable and impotent position should another country with enough resources and dollars to do it decided to attack us on our home soil. Our foreign policy the last several years has also created more enemies than we used to have and alienated many of our allies. Our economy is falling apart in large part due to the Bush Administration's fiscal policies and the Republican's stances on regulation of industry, also leaving us very ineffectual and vulnerable in the world market. So, who is it again that wants America to be "weak and without balls", again? Because from where I sit we've already been neutered by the very people Ocramed is supporting. Way to go.

Sir, I just want to take a moment to thank you for making this point. I've been waiting for someone to do it. It lets me remind them of this little fact:
In 1983, Mr Perfect, Ronald Reagan, pulled the marines out of Lebanon after the barracks bombing. Later, he invaded the tiny Caribbean island of Granada. Is that how the Republican Party shows it has balls? Take soldiers out of a dangerous area and attack a tiny island?
Or GWB, who told us that Iraq had WMD. Of course, they didnt. Now Iran? North Korea? States that are actively pursuing nuclear weapons? Heck, no! They might fight back!

Sarah Palin shouldn't be one to talk about the connections her opponents have, considering she was endorsed by Ted Stevens who actively campaigned for her. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that her husband belonged to the Alaskan Independence Party, which actively pursues the secession of Alaska from United States. Yeah, this just screams desperation mode to me. It didn't work before, so they are bringing Ayers and Rezko back in hopes that people will actually give a crap this time. But really, Palin is the last person on Earth to bring up personal connections to shady people/organizations. It's not going to work, no one that will vote for Obama cares anyhow, and the only thing this will accomplish is it will make McCain look even more desperate.
