Terence Howard was on the Ed Lover radio morning show this morning and he said that War Machine will be in both IRON MAN 2 and 3, and MIGHT get his own spin off movie franchise after IM 3.

saying that, a black centric marvel character movie targeted at the masses may be a good step in the right direction.

Got no problem with that Idea. Only thing is that there are so many more Marvel character's much more interesting and deserving of their own feature film. Black Panther being one of them.

That's what I figured would happen, though I didn't expect War Machine in IM3, but I curtainly felt War Machine would spin-off, it made the most sense and would do well.

That's talking a bit in advance, there's gotta be an Iron Man 3 first. Who knows what'll happen between now and then. Maybe War Machine will get a lot of cool lines in the next one, and all of a sudden become everyone's favourite character.
Ok, no, that won't happen. I don't see War Machine carrying his own movie.

WM will no doubt be in IM2 IMO... at least at the end. IM3 isn't even a given.

I have no feelings one way or the other about WM getting his own spin off movie. If a WM movie is made, cool. If a WM movie is not made, no big deal.

Yeah but they can still make another one... the fact that they are trying to get Avengers out this early... you still leave a small window to make a third sequel while the cast is still young. War Machine would definitely be in that film if he isn't already in IM2. Rhodes said "next time baby" so that has to mean next time (in IM2)... the movie might be a little crowded and I hope they don't sacrifice character development... but I think it can work either way. However if Avengers gets pushed back a full year or more I don't see Marvel making another IM solo film for quite some time because the cast will have moved on at that point.

Yeah MArvel is getting a bit greedy... they got the ball rolling late... they have to cash in now. With WB getting the ball rolling with DC movies... Sony and Fox still moving strong with their properties... Marvel has to set early deadlines and nab the best release dates. I still don't think Avengers gets done for 2011. And we could still be looking at major changes if and when that film is eventually made.

I thought War Machine would be in both 2 and 3. They'll probaly set him up in 2 and than hey'll probaly be full blown in 3. I never expected a spin off for the guy LOL.

Ugh, that's the MAX-line US. War Machine comic, right? Yes. It's very bad. Because it's a bad comic. I wouldn't judge the character based on those issues.

They weren't as unnecessary as those Marvel spinoffs, but their quality was questionable.

The thing IS...once you've seen Iron Man on the big screen for several movies, what could War Machine possibley bring to the table?
No, i dont see much mainstream interest in a War Machine spin-off...it just seems redundant.

The only way a War Machine movie would happen would be after a trilogy of Iron Man and they weren't making anymore Iron Man movies for a while which would make no sense to begin with. Obviously both franchises would not work simultaneously.

I think a War Machine movie could work like a mix between Iron Man and Captain America where it is a war movie with a superhero in it and a super villain

i would like to see how War Machine be developed in the Iron Man sequels, before making any judgment of a WM movie.
A small, fun War Machine would be alright for february or march, like the Magneto one and some others (Deathlok, i.e.). Not good big enough for summer
L0ngsh0t
09-08-2008, 03:46 PM
good point.
Also though,
Iron Man 3 could leave off with IM having to much to handle (i.e. Avengers baddies, vs...Mandarian-Fing Fang Foom etc) so IM goes to finish with the Avengers, and War Machine finishes off Mandarin. So a psedo-sequel spin-off

Yeah but Iron Man isn't bigger than the X-men, and it is making those sorry films look silly
Look, a good production (director, script, cast), and a well received character from Iron Man 2 and 3 and proper marketing, good hype and word of mouth. There is no reason it isn't a cash cow. I'm not saying dump 150 million in it, but you could put a clean 100 and get a good return plus extend a franchise while Iron Man maybe busy in Avengers so he can't star in a movie, but cameo.

the only problem with that is, ALOT of fans would get angry because they dont wanna see a War Macine climactic ending with mandarin, they wanna see ironman beat the badguy in HIS movie, not his sidekick

excellent point. I was more or less illustrating the fact that a War-Machine movie could work, but you make a good point as to how that particular movie won't work
I think the way to go, and i'm not as familiar with War-Machine as I am other characters is make a war fantasy type movie like G.I. Joe is going to be, or Captain America movie. Rhodes is a military man so he uses the suit to help the army verses the Crimson Dynamo or something

The thesis of my point is this: You get a good creative screen play, and exciting and committed director, a good cast and promotion like you did with Iron Man, there is no reason that a War Mchine movie can't work.
Remember at the end of the day it is just a summer movie, and plenty of summer movies have risen from nothing, so a spin-off of a popular franchise still has more legs than a fresh summer blockbuster. Just make a good movie, and people will probably go to it

Lol that wording doesn't make sense upon seeing it again.
well they where able to produce two huge blockbusters simultaneously-i would think now that they are legit can handle 3-4 a year, especially considering they will hopefully be giving more leeway to the directors considering the one where they gave a ton of leeway was incredible (iron man) and the one they tightened the reigns on was just pretty good (incredible hulk, sorry for the pun confusion)

A War Machine stand alone film could've worked before Iron Man. Remember back when Iron Fist, Black Panther, etc. movies were being planned? That would've been a good period...except that none of those films were ever made. Don't tell me War Machine can't be done without Iron Man. These writers also find a way. David Goyer's scripted Venom film preceded Spider-Man by a year or two, right?
I'm honestly not all that hyped up about War Machine even being in the film. He LOOKS cool. But I really just want to see Stark and Rhodes bump heads some more. They have a really fun relationship in the comics and in the film.

That's exactly what Howard was saying. If a WM movie is ever made, it will come after the IM trilogy is finished.

At this moment in time the idea of War Machine movie is very premature. It also seems unnecessary just many like so many of these spinoff movies.

I thought it was...
Iron Man, Iron Man 2, then Avengers!
Isn't Avengers taking the spot of a third film...The second one will have War Machine!
No War Machine movie, the way things are going with superhero movies, it would probably be an origin story, just show the origin in Iron Man 2!

I don't find his acting annoying, but he does come off as pretentious and tempermental in interviews. A real diva type.
On topic, I think a War Machine solo film could work. Set it up something similar to the first arc of WM's short-lived solo series, where there is a genocide/civil war in a country in which it is not politically advantageous for IM or the Avengers to get involved. WM goes in rogue to do what's right.
Just as IM cursorily touches on Middle Eastern terrorism, an WM movie in this fashion could touch on Darfur and like situations.
I don't think you could get a franchise out of it, but it could be a good one-shot.

Cheadle is still an upgrade over Terrance Howard... much like Maggie G over Holmes... lets see what direction they take with the character. It definitely won't be that huge a turn off... Favreau, RDJ, and Paltrow will still carry this franchise... add Cheadle to the mix and you have a Dark Knight esque cast... now bring in a big time foreign East Asian actor for Mandarin (OTHER THAN Jet Li or Chow Yun Phat) and you have a VERY good cast... whoever ends up playing the main villain will probably be a big name anyhow.

It's not that Marvel is cheap, it's that Howard is full of himself. The original poster was right that Howard talked about WM sequels. In fact, the d-bag even said that WM was the character "the fans really WANT to see." Really? Really. I'm sorry your agent/production assistant/whack-ass cousin led you astray, but WM is an easter-egg. A really cool easter egg, but an easter egg nonetheless.
Good riddance to TH. Dennis Haysbert for War Machine.
