Cast Away - Just him standing there, at the crossroads. Alone again. Him looking back at the back of the truck to see the wings. When the camera is on Hanks, him looking past us. He gives a slight smile. And then the score kicks in. Then the fade out. A beautiful ending to a beautiful movie.
The Shawshank Redemption - Freeman and Robbins looking at eachother on the beach. We remember when Andy tells about how he'd like to buy and old boat and fix it up. We think of what they've been through to see eachother again. Then that final shot of them walking towards eachother. Just see it. One of my favorite films.

Dark Knight 66
09-25-2008, 04:58 PM
My favourite closing scenes to a movie are
The Dark Knight
"He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a dark knight"
The Silence Of The Lambs
"I do wish we could chat longer, but... I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye"
Platoon
"I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy; we fought ourselves. The enemy was in us. The war is over for me now, but it will always be there, the rest of my days. As I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called "possession of my soul." There are times since, I've felt like a child, born of those two fathers. But be that as it may, those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again. To teach to others what we know, and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and a meaning to this life"
Full Metal Jacket
"Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me? M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Hey there! Hi there! Ho there! You're as welcome as can be. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse..."
Casino
"And that's that"
There are some others but I wont list them all now.

I think it's mainly the writing and directing that pales in compairison to the original, because...
Sophia Bush >>>> The original chick
Sean Bean >>>>> Rutger Hauer

The original chick doesn't matter to me, since she wasn't the lead like the boy was. Well at least in the orginal everyone could act. That girl in the new one justs stares blankly at everything like MTV actors. Sean Bean whos alright in most flicks tried to hard to be creepy. Rutger had it down.

Agreed.
I went and saw the remake of The Hitcher shortly after it began making it's theatrical run, and unfortunately was quite underwhelmed with the entire film. The original Hitcher with Rutger Hauer, has long been a favourite of mine, and was actually one of the first two DVD's I purchased after getting a DVD player back in 2000.
I still havent even bothered re-watching the remake. Let alone purchase the DVD. That about sums it up.

Best closing scene I have viewed recently...Ryan Reynolds in Smokin Aces pulling the plugs on Buddy Israel and Primo Sparazza and laying his badge and gun down
Sentinel X
09-29-2008, 07:51 PM
The Dark Knight's ending was actually the worse part of the film for me, I don't get why people are so infatuated with it....Unless you are talking about the Batman/TwoFace showdown...but the Gordon speech at the end, no :down
My favorite ending: Shawshank Redemption!!!
Best ending EVER.
Oh and I also like:
Psycho - Norman Bates mom complete taking over = scary
Cassablanca
Spider-man 1 - final swing is breathtaking
Forrest Gump
Princess Mononoke
The Lion King
etc etc....so much good endings I dont feel like writing the rest :o

I'm an average nobody... get to live the rest of my life like a schnook"

Heh, Pirates 2 is a masterpiece compared to Pirates 3.
Off the top of my head, these come to mind:
A New Hope - the medal ceremony... just makes me want to stand up and cheer everytime.
Seven - i just rewatched it the other day after a while and it's still shocking.
Last Crusade - Indy riding into the sunset.
Silence of the Lambs - He's having an old friend for lunch :hehe:
The Godfather - the entire movie is just amazing, and i love the ending.
Schindler's List - to this day, this ending just gets to me.
Gone with the Wind - this was a great end to this epic movie.
Batman Begins - teasing the Joker like that was awesome.

It doesn't even make sense! No-One was there when he said it!

Yeah, and I don't consider it a twist because it was more of a "surprise" moment, and doesn't even tells you much about it, but lets you draw your own conclusions about what it meant exactly. It's not a twist in the normal sense.

"The Natural" when Robert Redford busts the stadium lights
I agree about the movie, but wouldn't the closing scene be him throwing the ball around with his son? Still great.
My favorites were The Usual Suspects, The Maltese Falcon, The Sixth Sense, and (believe it or not) the last scene of Rocky Balboa in the cemetery.

Classic Endings 101
City Lights - Heartbreaking and hopeful all at once, as the formerly blind girl realizes who her mysterious benefactor actually is.
The Third Man - Joseph Cotton harbors the hope that he will still get the girl. He finds out that's just another of his naive illusions.
Chinatown - "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."

most recently, i'd say danny boyle's sunshine has one of the best closing scenes i've ever seen. can't really mention what it was cuz that'd be giving away a lot of info. good movie, like all of his movies tend to be.
