Paramount's really missing the boat here. This time last year we at least had a teaser for Transformers. This is even a bigger budget movie than Transformers.

Yet we don't really have anything. Not enough people know this is coming. And this is supposed to be one of their biggest releases next year.

Paramount is probably scared to release stuff. I think they're scared about this in the same way I believe Fox is scared about Wolverine. As for Transformers, I think that's an case of them feeling so confident, they expect people to just show up.

But G.I. Joe needs an trailer NOW. If you go to every forum on this site, everybody else is expecting this movie to either bomb outright or have one good weekend and die. I think we need an super awesome bells and whistles action packed trailer that even somehow has characters saying Yo, Joe! in it:ikyn. We really need THAT level of fanboyish junk in it to get people excited again.

AnimatedFury
11-17-2008, 12:49 AM
This movie is gonna show up with trailers and TV spots probably in like March, it's not gonna remind anyone of G.I. Joe or get them excited for it since they strayed too far from RAH, the only good era of Joe, and they haven't built anticipation at all the way the aggrivating and thus brilliant Transformers teaser did. I also expect one good weekend out of it.

It's quite remarkable isn't it.

G.I. Joe finished filming before Transformers 2 and TF2 has a trailer coming out on Dec 12th while G.I. Joe doesn't even have a web site up yet.

It speaks volumes about the lack of confidence the studio has in this film. It's supposed to be a tent-pole flick to carry Paramount through the Summer 09 slate.

I guess the brass at Paramount have realized it's not enough to just adapt a license which has an established fanbase, you actually have have deliver on the quality end aswell.

The thing is, this is a $170 million movie, that's bigger than the first Transformers budget.

Also they greenlit this movie into production right before the strike. Just like *ahem* Dragon Ball Evolution.

TheVileOne

Reportedly bigger by about $20 million.

I mean, look Transformers had a lot of the nostalgia factor PLUS the whole giant robots thing.

GI JOE has the nostalgia, but it doesn't have giant robots, so we will see. You know Hasbro wants their name on another huge global movie franchise.

gkokujin
12-13-2008, 05:05 PM
i think they are counting solely on the nostalgia factor, because most people still alive had GIjoe toys or knew of them as children.

TNC9852002

It isn't remarkable AT ALL that there's no trailer.

Look, the movie comes out in AUGUST.

The last thing they want to do is spend a bunch of money putting together a little trailer so early just so it can be swept by 8 months of other spring and summer blockbusters.

I can see if this was April or May, then I'd worry, but it's only December!

Unlike Star Trek and Harry Potter, GI Joe's release date has been set and hasn't been pushed around.

My guess is that the first trailer will be ready by late January early February and will be perfect for The Uninvited/Dance Flick. The second will be attached to Star Trek in May and another in late June, early July.

Jamie Madrox

I'm pretty sure the trailer doesn't suck as much as the 'NukeTheFridge' guy said it did. He's just another person with a negative opinion about something he thinks will suck. When has a trailer for a movie this big ever sucked enough to call it awful? I've never seen one. I don't think Paramount's that dumb. They put a lot of money in this movie, they're gonna do everything they can to insure that they get it back. I don't think their gonna release a crappy trailer that could very well hurt the movie's chances to become successful. As far as I know, the teaser trailer was just a test trailer anyway, I don't think it was an official teaser or official trailer.

The buzz will pick up when a trailer featuring ALL characters hits. Super Bowl would seem the most likely place to debut the trailer, with all the people tuning in an everything. Even though I'd prefer it hitting sooner, I'd rather them take the time to put their best efforts into it, rather releasing one just because we want it now.

I have faith G.I.Joe will be a very entertaining and fun Summer movie. Stephen Sommers hasn't failed me yet. The guy just don't get enough credit.

12-31-2008, 12:50 PM
The movie is already mud on the net based on what little info we have. Rather than put out trailers now for the GP to rip apart as well and really ruin the film's box potential, they're probably gonna wait til the last minute, have a media blitz, and hope they can catch people on the name recognition. It's probably their best chance at this point.

Jamie Madrox
12-31-2008, 01:44 PM
They're slowly, slowly releasing images of the movie toys. They showed the M.A.R.S guards, then Breaker and Baroness. Marketing has started, it's just very slow... for now. When the trailer hits, people will flock to the boards and the hype or hate will begin. I imagine the studio thinks it's smarter to wait 'til the year it comes out to begin promotion.

Well, I've only seen deep rising, the mummy movies and van helsing.

Don't know about the rest.

With that, I feel like Sommers is one of the kings of brainless popcorn adventure movies. I'm no big GI Joe follower outside of the cartoon, but I think he's right for the job. I don't expect a serious action adventure with a lot of clever filmmaking techniques. The movie is #10 on my 2009 radar, so I'll definitely be there, but I'm keeping my expectations low.

Superbowl Film Advertising

Posted on Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 7:50 pm by: Peter Sciretta

Variety confirms that Paramount will premiere the first footage from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen during SuperBowl XLIII on February 1st 2009, forgoing the traditional theatrical teaser trailer route. Other high profile film advertising spots might include Star Trek, G.I. Joe, Angels and Demons
Monsters vs. Aliens (90-second 3D trailer), Land of the Lost, Fast and Furious, Up, Race to Witch Mountain, and Wolverine.

Surprisingly, Warner Bros. hasn’t bought a television spot despite having a great line-up of films that would appeal to the Superbowl crowd: Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Watchmen.

And remember, the Academy Awards will allow film advertising for the first time in the first time in Oscar telecast history, and many expect the premiere of exclusive trailers during that telecast as well.

30 seconds serves as a very good showcase for a movie...dont give me that "we need a 2 minute trailer before we make a decision" garbage.

I dont go to many movies, so most trailers I see are on tv, and therefore about 30 seconds long. Some make me go to the theater, some makee me cringe. Gi Joe looks like crap.

If I must wait for a two minute version to confirm then I am fine with that as well.

Again, the purpose of a commercial is to interest the viewer. Even the worst movies can have good commericials.
