We have casting threads for the Superman and the two main supporting characters (Lois and Lex) why not a thread for all the other members of Superman's cast? I have some young ideas:
Perry White - Beau Bridges
http://z.about.com/d/movies/1/0/N/D/O/goodgermanprem2.jpg
Johnathan Kent - Chris Cooper
http://z.about.com/d/movies/1/0/R/H/Q/thekingdomprem5.jpg
Jor-El - Tim Daly

Lana Lang - JoAnna Garcia

Motown Marvel

those choices dont really inspire me at all, other than chris cooper, who would actually be best for perry (an idea i could actually get behind).

Jor-El/Braniac: Eric Bana.......anyone who reads my posts knows that I want Jor-El and Braniac played by the same actor. I believe Braniac should take the form of Jor-El as a homage to his creator, and as a way to mess with Superman's head.
Lex Luthor: Jason Isaacs
Lois Lane: Evangeline Lilly or Eliza Dushku
Perry White: R. Lee Ermey
Jimmy Olsen: Chris Marquette
Jonathan Kent(older): James Garner
Jonathan Kent(younger): Craig Sheffer
Lana Lang: Emmanuelle Chriqui.....a homage to the look of Smallville's Lana, plus I'm not a redhead fan and I think Chriqui is the hottest girl ever.
Dr. Hamiliton: Brent Spiner
Morgan Edge: Robert Englund
Metallo: Sam Rockwell
I'm not sure who I want for Martha Kent or Lara, and I'll post more as they come to me. All are subject to change.
Smallville
Young Pete Ross and Lana Lang - Unknowns
Pa Kent - Albert Finney
Ma Kent - Ellen Burstyn
Krypton
Jor-El - Ralph Fiennes
Lara Lor-Van - Jennifer Connelly
Zor-El - David Boreanaz
Allura - Naomi Watts
Kara Zor-El - Evan Rachel Wood
Dru-Zod - Daniel Day-Lewis
Ursa - Lucy Lawless
Non - Dwayne Johnson
Metropolis
Perry White - Kurt Russell
Cat Grant - Charlize Theron
Don Cheadle - Ron Troupe
Steve Lombard - Val Kilmer
Terrible Dan Turpin - Dennis Farina
Maggie Sawyer - Jodie Foster
John Corben/Metallo - Matthew McCougnahey
I'm too lazy to host all those pics just google if you don't recognize a name :yay:

I'm serious when I say that if she was five years older and a tad more experienced, Leighton Meester would be perfect for Lois Lane.
Speaking of Lois, there is a two different ways to cast her. If the reboot goes with a fairly unknown actor such as Bomer or Cavill, a respected, proven, and known actress should be cast, IMO. If the movies goes with an actor that alot the general audience knows of, such as Ryan Reynolds or Josua Jackson, they should feel free to find the best known actress out there for the role of Lois Lane, known or unknown. Like a Rose Byrne type.

I don't really want Lana in this film, just the Kents.
And they should start the film off when Kent is travelling the world as a Journalist.
The Smallville stuff is played out.

Jonathan Kent - Robert Duvall
Martha Kent - Ellen Burstyn
Jor-El - James Caviezel
Lara - Rachel Weisz

I don't. There isn't much you can do with him during his college years, besides showing his interest in Journalism.
They can do more with the 'travelling the world' thing.
Imagine the film kicking off with Kent as a Journalist in Africa in the midst of a political war; and him using his powers to save civilians.
Kinda like Birthright and 24:Exile.

you know, the other day I was thinking Greg Kinear would make an amazing John Kent. In every movie his in, he generally plays the all around nice guy. He'd fit that role really well. He's young enough to be young for Superman's arrival, and teen years, and he's old enough to be convincingly aged for the superman adult years.

If I'm casting the Routhboot, I'd go for George Dzundza as Perry White. For those who don't know and/or remember, his "claim to fame" is playing the original lead detective in the first season of Law & Order as well as George O'Malley's dad on Grey's Anatomy.
Coincidentially (i.e. I only realized this recently), he was the voice of Perry White on Superman: The Animated Series as well as the direct-to-DVD animated films - small world. :whatever:

Isnt there some versions in the comics/other mediums where jor-el and adult kal-el/clark/superman look very simular to each other. That would be a cool thing to do.

I do not want to see another aged Jor-El.
I want Jor-El to be young and vibrant. He is not a metaphor for god.... he is a mirror of all those parents trying to give their children a better life by giving them up. He is the ultimate selfless parent.

Action hero Harrison Ford as Pa Kent or Perry White would take me out of the movie. I couldn't buy Harrison Ford as a country farmer called "Pa" married to an old southern woman or a heavyset newspaper editor shouting "Great Cesar's Ghost!" It would seem like he is Doctor Richard Kimble disguised as a country farmer or disguised as a newspaper editor, like he was disguised as a janitor in The Fugitive, when he was actually saving a kids life and fighting crime by solving a murder.

When I was running just now, I came up with a few more choices. I'd like to show Jor-El debating with the Kryptonian Council, so obviously O'Toole as Sul-Van is there, and I'd have James Frain and Leonard Nimoy portray two other members.
And I would have give Harry Lennix a very brief cameo as Det. John Jones. A very small moment with him coming face to face with Superman, gives Supes a smile, and backs away. Thats it.....plant that seed. Martian Manhunter is a cool character, but it's not like he will ever have his own movie. So plant that seed.

My choices for Jor-El are as follows...
Jim Caviezel

Daniel Day-Lewis
Mel Gibson
Of the five, Caviezel probably needs the work and is the most underused of the five. The guy is such a great actor, and playing Jesus in Passion of the Christ really hurt his career more than it helped.

I suppose that, in the sequel to an origin reboot, you could have a scene with Superman and Jerry Seinfeld as himself filming a commercial of some sort together, as a play on the real life commercial with Seinfeld and Superman.

Lex is supposed have built Lexcorp from the ground up!
He'd have to be at least late 30s, or 40s.
There's no way around that.
In other words, Lex shouldn't be a kid.
SuperDaniel

I'm all for a different take. My Lex would be like Howard Hughes. Young, troubled, billionaire, genius. In fact, LuthorCorp already exists before he takes over it. It was his father company that later, Lex takes into a higher ground, develops it and change the name to LexCorp. In my script, that's what he deals with. I don't want Lex to be like the Kingpin. Why someone can't own a company when they're in the late 20's, early 30's?
In fact, Luthor is the character i think needs the most change from the movies. I don't want no geriatric Luthor. I want someone of Superman's age to show to the audience the difference in the formation of the personas and i want to show the descent to the darkness. No Smallville BS! This is the real thing! In my opinion, in the first movie, Luthor shouldn't even be a bad guy. My Superman movie is about what do you do with your gifts and the choices we make to make our dream come true.

Cool. Baldwin's the MAN and Jaime's damn hot. :)
Krypton:
Jor-El - Jim Cavaziel: He is a huge fan of the character and campaigned for the role of Superman in the Singer days. I'm sure he'd love to have a role in the movie, even a glorified cameo like Jor-El.
Lara - Teri Hatcher: She is a decent enough actress to do what would be needed for this role. Plus it would be a fun cameo.
Brainiac (voice) - Hugo Weaving: His voice has that robotic, but dominating and all knowing nature that such a role would need.
General Zod - Jude Law: I know a lot of people hate the idea of Zod in a Superman movie again but I think it would make a cool cameo and open up some sequel potential. Darkseid is too far out there for film, IMO. He is like Apocolypse. Sure, he is a great villain in comics and cartoons but would be ridiculous on film. Braniac is a must for Superman 2, but Zod would make the perfect end to a trilogy IMO.
Smallville:
Pa Kent - Tom Berenger: Great actor, is the right age and look for the role. Plus who plays the average, everyman better than Berenger? And that is essentially what Pa should be. The average guy with a not so average son.
Ma Kent - Jean Smart: I know she is mostly known for her comedic work but 24 displayed that she can do drama, and how! Plus, I am so sick of the fragile old woman cliche in super hero movies. Smart is nearing 60, so she is older, but not the geriatric as we are used to. She is strong willed enough that it is believable that she could muscle Pa into taking in an orphan who just crashed in a space ship plus she can do warm and caring well enough that we could see her as a stable support structure for Clark.
Lana Lang - Alyson Hannigan: I don't think Lana should be a super model quality actress. Yes, she is drawn that way, but what woman in a comic book isn't? I like Lana as a sharp contrast to Lois. More reserved and rational, more pretty than sexy, kind of the girl next door type and Alyson Hannigan fits that to a T.
Pete Ross - Tom Welling: Just to see the reaction on the web. :hehe: But seriously, Pete wouldn't have a role in my ideal Superman movie. The Smallville scenes should focus on Clark's relationship to his parents and Lana. Throw Pete in there and you are adding too much. Besides, Pete's overly important role in Superman mythoes has always felt forced to me. Vice-president and later president? Really?
Metropolis:
Lois Lane - Sarah Lancaster: I don't really have a good reason for this other than the fact that she has a GREAT look for the role and is a fairly good actress. But beyond that, its impossible to cast Lois without first seeing how she and the Superman actor play off one another. And again, tell me this isn't a good look for Lois.
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn202/theworldofisaac/big2.jpg
Lex Luthor - Jason Isaacs: I need a reason aside from the fact that he would be absolutely orgasmic in this role?
Perry White - Christopher Walken: I think this is a role Walken would have a lot of fun with and the results would be amazing.
Jimmy Olsen - Kevin Connolly: I hate "cub reporter Jimmy Olsen." Jimmy shouldn't be a kid, he shouldn't even be a teenager. Its ridiculous to think that the equivilant of the New York Times would hire a child or teen to take photos for them. At the same time, Jimmy should essentially be a rookie photographer who Perry uses as more of an errand boy. Kind of the Lois and Clark portrayal. Kevin Connolly would fit this well. Young, eager and ambitious, but also a good friend to Lois and Clark.
John Corbin/Metallo - Viggo Mortenson: Great actor. I feel he would capture the tragedy of Metallo and his motivations perfectly. No one wants Metallo to be some two dimensional villain. He has to be a man, albeit a criminal who was transformed into a monster. Mortenson would capture this well, I think.

Spider Daniel, Michael Cera wouldn't be right for Jimmy though.
Jimmy is happy and go-lucky, the type of guy who is always smiling and tries to make everyone else smile.
That's like the complete antithesis of the roles that Michael Cera plays. Cera plays the awkward, sarcastic, yet endearing introvert.
Damien is definitely evil looking, but he'd make a great Lex for sure.

I personally have a different view on Clark and Lana. I'v always thought that if Clark were just a normal, everyday guy he would be with Lana Lang living in Smallville, raising a family and living a peaceful life in the same manner that Jonathan and Martha Kent had.
One of the biggest problems I have with Smallville is how the Clark/Lana relationship was handled. It pisses me off because it has ruined Lana in the eyes of many Superman fans. Before Smallville, I wanted Clark to be with Lana so bad, although I knew it could never and would never happen, but that was the beauty of it. Now, thats been ruined for me. Friggin Smallville, I hate everything they did with Lana.

Brandon Routh: Superman
Elizabeth Banks: Lois Lane
Jonny Depp: Lex Luthor
Jim Caviezel: Jor-El
Lena Heady: Lara
Sam Worthington: Metallo
Jeremy Irons: Brainiac
Michael Clark Duncan: Darkseid
Jude Law: General Zod
Isla Fisher: Lana Lang
Ben Mackenzie: Pete Ross
Tom Hanks: Pa Kent
Sally Field: Ma Kent
Beau Bridges: Perry White

Sam Huntington was so perfect for it.
He was Jimmy without ever even trying to be (probably because it's the actor's real personality).

From AintitCool News, its prolly just a rumor but still interesting. Not sure if anyone posted this yet
Is Warner Bros. Prepping A Movie-Length SMALLVILLE-Related Project Called METROPOLIS??
I am – Hercules!!
If this is hoax, it’s a good one, as it comes with a few bits of convincing detail we are not sharing with you.
Someone has written us, claiming to have gotten a glimpse of some signage being prepared for next month’s “Smallville” presentation at Comic-Con. His or her description:
On black, with crimson/red text in the same font lettering that Smallville uses, and a transparent grey Superman "S" watermark behind the text:
METROPOLIS
CHRISTMAS 2010
Then at the bottom is a banner advertising the Smallville presentation, with the time/place (can't remember).
Other info this untested source sent us suggests "Metropolis" is a movie-length project, and not a new series.
Word is “Smallville” will conclude its 9-year run May 2010, so it makes sense that the CW would tack on a couple more production hours up there in Canada to make a Superman TV-movie that would run seven or so months after the series’ conclusion.
But what if Tom Welling isn't putting on the red cape for the small screen? It doesn’t seem like 18 months is enough time to slap together a big-screen "Smallville" sequel, but I also seem to remember Warner Bros. kicking the first three episodes of “Clone Wars” to cinemas without a lot of notice.
This comes from an untested source, self-described as “Yoda’s *****,” so kindly take it all as rumor.

This might be a good way of testing the waters for the next proper Superman movie. If it isn't a hit, then it won't matter to most people as it's "only" Smallville and at least WB will know not to go in a similar direction for the sequel/reboot.

I dig AICN, but they run with everything.
That being said, Smallville: The TV Movie, is plausible. I wouldn't bank on this being true. Believe it when I see the poster at Comic Con posted. This is the same site who posted the W Bros doing the next Superman movie from a phantom interview from Transylvannia

Wasn't season 8 one of their highest rated seasons?? I mean the majority of season 8 was awesome
If this is indeed true, and Smallville was going to develop into a made for tv movie, you'd think they would fire the executive who moved the show to Friday nights. You know, Friday nights, where shows go to die.

To be fair, This is speaking of a made for TV movie. This doesn't seem to pertain to a theater released feature.
I'm sure we'll get the "See...we were right." from one of the abandoned Superman Blogs and then if it turns out not to be true it will be the fault of Millar Gough Ink or the democrats.

I think, when you look at other CG heavy movies, SR does make you wonder:
SR: $209 million budget
Transformers: $151 million
Transformers 2: $200 million
Terminator 2: $160 million (inflation adjusted)
Lord of the Ring: Two Towers: $95 million
Either Singer got ripped off, or he spent a lot of money that didn't come across on the screen!
Studios always lie about how much they spent to make a film. Seriously. :whatever:

Well, it's all we've got to go off, so I'm taking it as gospel until someone says otherwise :woot: Let's say SR did cost $200 mill though, it didn't seem like it. I suppose all of this is conjecture though if they all lie.
If WB was going to take notes from Smallville into the film-franchise, it would have already happened years ago at the series' peak.
I was implying that it could be the other way around. Any ideas they have for the theatrical movie, they could hint at in the Smallville TV Movie to see how popular they are. They could then run with and develop the successful ideas for the big budget movie.

lol why would WB lie that they spent a crap load of money on a ****** movie :whatever: who are u to tell me what i can and cannot question?
I'll continue to say its mind boggling how Singer managed to spend that much money on an actionless movie, when movies like the Matrix can make epic CGI fights and spend less. Singer was just stupid when it came to controlling a budget, he built elaborate sets that weren't even included in film. Such as the huge crystal pod that showed routh sittin in, and the big glacier they built that led to the entrance of the fortress that just ended up in the deleted scenes.
and i have no clue why they moved smallville to friday, thats something Fox only does.

Yeah excuse me for having knowledge/experience in the field and knowing what I'm talking about. Instead of you who clearly has neither.

I think he wasn't saying that SR didn't cost 209 Million or more, but some of the other films listed actually cost more.

See above.

Shows that are moved to Friday are put there because they are not viable options for the network any longer. It is TV 101. TGIF isn't walking through that door. I've watched every episode of Smallville since its inception, but moving a show to Friday night and then coming out with a made for TV film or spinoff seems like a crazy marketing maneuver to me.

I know, Henry Cavill is Superman, but what about him as ZOD?
Don't give them any ideas. Or we'll get THE ADVENTURES OF YOUNG ZOD.

Well, Singer is known for sepending too much.. but the last also happened. The most expansive scene from the movie didnt make it on the final cut (the whole travel to krypton sequence).

Lots of scenes and whole sequences that were filmed got cut.
The RTK scene alone reportedly cost around 10 mill. And dont forget that huge a$$ field of corn that was planted, and they ended up using CG instead.
I can see how he spent over 200 mill, easily.
IMO, the problem wasnt in what he spent or how, it was the editing.

Before she was cast as Gwen Stacy, I thought Bryce Dallas Howard would have made a great Lana Lang.
