It's also just not very tactful. It's like saying to a woman over the phone "you know, from speaking to you I assumed you were an ugly hag with horrible manners, but was pleasant to find otherwise" - and then ya'know, instead of being a woman, it's an entire subsection of the human race.

I bet if O'reilly referred to him as Cowboy curtis...he would be called a demeaning racist.....I personally find it insulting as well, considering the large body of work that fishburne has put together over the years....

No wai! White kids politely sit and watch their concerts in utter reserved silence. Bill O'Reilly recently found, however, black people may do this as well in certain situations:wow:

"I say ol'bean that "La Zepplin de Led" concert at the local theatre was most enjoyable, it's a shame those negro roughians had to ruin it for everyone with their riff raff up in the rafters. Perhaps after we wash up our face and hands in the restroom we can turn on the tele. I hear that delightfully insighting Mr. Bill O'Reilly is on and I shant miss it. I so do want to hear about his trip out to Harlem to dine at the negro eatery called Sylvia's. It's is anything like those "rap musicians" I keep hearing about it should prove interesting..."

People don't care what film you won an Oscar for, just that you did win an Oscar....I don't remember who said that, but it makes sense....Oscar Winner goes in front of your name for as long as you are doing fillm. Referring to Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader is borderline insulting, that was how long ago...?? everyone has bills to pay.....You don't see people referring to Laurence Fishburne as "that guy from pee wee's playhouse...do you?

hey I liked Easy reader, that wasn't meant to be insulting at all, if anything it shows what a talented and versatile actor he is. How can a good childhood memory be insulting and why in the Hell did you surmise that he should be ashamed of this role? Look at all the people that know how to read thanks to Freeman. (I bet youve caught yourself humming the t-i-o-n song in odd moments too!) ~smoke some cronic man...

It's been a long time since anyone made a thread about something asinine said by Ann Coulter. I thought it was high time we got back to that. Somebody told me about seeing this interview, so I had to read a bit about it for myself. To sum it up, she says that Jews need to become Christians to be perfect. Read for yourself. Be warned, the article I'm linking to is Media Matters, so if you're not into pretty obviously slanted sites, just skip down to the transcript.

I think people are tired of Coulter. She's a vampire, feeding off of negativity and people's time, energy and gullibility. And, I think more and more people are realizing that and just tired of hearing her run her trap. Occasionally, you come across someone who never stops with their ranting and raving and they cause themselves to just become ineffectual white noise because no one really listens to them anymore. That's what Coulter has done to herself.

All of her many insulting comments towards minorities are equally insulting, wrong, and idiotic. She's really just Howard Stern in a totally different direction. Instead of being crude, she is prudish and conservative to the point of offensive. But (I bet) it's mostly an act. She does it because, ultimately, it gets attention and draws attention away from more valuable, pressing criticisms of the right.

In her defense, she says what she wants and rarely apologizes. In some ways she represents the best type of person in the worst possible way. It's good that she is outspoken, it's bad that she chooses to be outspoken about things that are extreme, implausible and impractical.

Put words in my mouth much? When did I say that she didn't have the right to speak her views? All I was saying was it was a shame that SHE had a deceptive voice that is heard and is used intentively for malice efforts to spread hate and intolerance, while there are others that have to scream and bang drums to be heard as a passing whisper.

Why can this guy (http://www.philly.com/dailynews/columnists/stu_bykofsky/20070809_Stu_Bykofsky___To_save_America__we_need_a nother_9_11.html), another person with the "right" to free speech, say "America NEEDS another 9/11" with no fallout whatsoever, yet others who merely suggest that we NEED to understand why 9/11 happened get bombarded as unpatriotic sympathizers?

So is Stu Bykofsky a terrorist now? He wants the death of innocent civilians, isn't that a terrorist? Or is it ONLY Muslims that are capable of such atrocities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irgun)?

So wait, when she says something incredibly racist or offensive to black people or women, you let it go, but when it's jews, it suddenly matters?

You have to be kidding me! If there is ANY one person on these ridiculous boards that defends the right of a person's speech and integrity it'd be me. Her criticisms of Islam and Muslims, which are wrong, falsified hate, and used to fuel this propaganda of fear are incredibly insulting to me as a Muslim. BUT, lets face facts. If someone in the media criticizes the human rights violations by Israel (which are staggering) they are defamed as Anti-Semitic. This psychotic heifer basically says that Jews (which according to the New Testament, which she adamantly says she follows, are the "people of G-D") and their religion, have NO meaning on this Earth. Where does that leave Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, etc. in her book? If Jews are worthless, what are the rest of us? You can easily see why Iraqi civilians are expendable as "collateral damage" in their minds; they have no worth.

This is the kind of extremist mentality that she claims to fight. Ahmadinejad is out there, but he's not as bad as this witch.

Maybe, instead of just being partisan fools, we should blame Coulter for her bias (plus the racism, of course), as well as blame the website for theirs.

But the website doesn't go out of its way to offend entire religions to increase book sales.

Cults are religions which have a charismatic leader and exert an inordinate amount of control over their members. Christianity and Judaism fail both these credentials. They have a lot of parity and very little control over what their members think, believe and the lifestyle that they live.

Little Rock, Ark -- As governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee aggressively pushed for the early release of a convicted rapist despite being warned by numerous women that the convict had sexually assaulted them or their family members, and would likely strike again. The convict went on to rape and murder at least one other woman.
Confidential Arkansas state government records, including letters from these women, obtained by the Huffington Post and revealed publicly for the first time, directly contradict the version of events now being put forward by Huckabee.
While on the campaign trail, Huckabee has claimed that he supported the 1999 release of Wayne Dumond because, at the time, he had no good reason to believe that the man represented a further threat to the public. Thanks to Huckabee's intervention, conducted in concert with a right-wing tabloid campaign on Dumond's behalf, Dumond was let out of prison 25 years before his sentence would have ended.
"There's nothing any of us could ever do," Huckabee said Sunday on CNN when asked to reflect on the horrific outcome caused by the prisoner's release. "None of us could've predicted what [Dumond] could've done when he got out."
But the confidential files obtained by the Huffington Post show that Huckabee was provided letters from several women who had been sexually assaulted by Dumond and who indeed predicted that he would rape again - and perhaps murder - if released.
In a letter that has never before been made public, one of Dumond's victims warned: "I feel that if he is released it is only a matter of time before he commits another crime and fear that he will not leave a witness to testify against him the next time." Before Dumond was granted parole at Huckabee's urging, records show that Huckabee's office received a copy of this letter from Arkansas' parole board.

The woman later wrote directly to Huckabee about having been raped by Dumond. In a letter obtained by the Huffington Post, she said that Dumond had raped her while holding a butcher knife to her throat, and while her then-3-year-old daughter lay in bed next to her. Also included in the files sent to Huckabee's office was a police report in which Dumond confessed to the rape. Dumond was not charged in that particular case because he later refused to sign the confession and because the woman was afraid to press charges.

Huckabee kept these and other documents secret because they were politically damaging, according to a former aide who worked for him in Arkansas. The aide has made the records available to the Huffington Post, deeply troubled by Huckabee's repeated claims that he had no reason to believe Dumond would commit other violent crimes upon his release from prison. The aide also believes that Huckabee, for political reasons, has deliberately attempted to cover up his knowledge of Dumond's other sexual assaults.
"There were no letters sent to the governor's office from any rape victims," Huckabee campaign spokesperson Alice Stewart said on Tuesday when contacted by the Huffington Post.
Subsequently, however, the campaign provided a former senior aide of Huckabee's who did remember reading at least one of the letters.
But Huckabee and his aides insist that his receipt of the letters is irrelevant because the decision to release Dumond was made by the parole board. Huckabee on Tuesday again denied allegations by former parole board members that he lobbied them to release Dumond. "I did not ask them to do anything," he said. "I did indicate [Dumond's case] was sitting at my desk and I was giving thought to it."
Charmaine Yoest, a senior adviser to the Huckabee campaign, told the Huffington Post: "I think what should be considered here is that if he [Huckabee] could have changed what happened, he would. His whole life has been about respect for life and understanding the value of each individual life. Nobody regrets the loss of life here more than him."
In 1996, as a newly elected governor who had received strong support from the Christian right, Huckabee was under intense pressure from conservative activists to pardon Dumond or commute his sentence. The activists claimed that Dumond's initial imprisonment and various other travails were due to the fact that Ashley Stevens, the high school cheerleader he had raped, was a distant cousin of Bill Clinton, and the daughter of a major Clinton campaign contributor.
The case for Dumond's innocence was championed in Arkansas by Jay Cole, a Baptist minister and radio host who was a close friend of the Huckabee family. It also became a cause for New York Post columnist Steve Dunleavy, who repeatedly argued for Dumond's release, calling his conviction "a travesty of justice." On Sept. 21, 1999, Dunleavy wrote a column headlined "Clinton's Biggest Crime - Left Innocent Man In Jail For 14 Years":
"Dumond, now 52, was given conditional parole yesterday in Arkansas after having being sentenced to 50 years in jail for the rape of Clinton's cousin," Dunleavy wrote. "That rape never happened."

I'm Voting for Huckabee, he's the most honest person on the Campain trail and he supports the Fairtax.

This was runner up for "Stupidest post I've seen on the Hype this year".
I...started composing a post to enumerate the reasons, but it's so monumentally stupid that it would be too time consuming while offering no reward.
So just go home with the pride of knowing, you're extremely good at what you do.

Every part of this is ridiculous, btw. I have grown up. I do have a real job. I do pay taxes, yet YOU OF ALL PEOPLE think that its alright to come across as if you are saying that IM AN IDIOT because I support intelligent candidates. Man, people that don't believe in global warming are strange. Where does all of the gasses us humans pump into the air every single day go? Do you really think it has zero effect on our atmosphere? What happens to the gasses?

So let me get this straight.

1. You dont believe in global warming? Just so you know, its 75 degrees here in Dallas, and its December.

2. You dont believe that Bush is a traitor to the USA by leading us into a war, and killing innocent men and women.

1. Those two questions for now should hold you for awhile.
Do you know what the hottest year in recorded history is?
1934, not 2007
One day it's warm and you think that that's global warming? Why is Mars getting warmer? I guess it's the Rover's fault, it's probably a HUMMER! Do you know when the last time we had any change in average Global Temperature? Over a decade ago

2. The United States had every International Legal right to go into Iraq. Read the 17 UN Resolustion states the case for any UN member to do so. Don't talk about it again until you read this. Thanks.

Real clever response, Slim.

Anyway, Slim, why do you always put things into a perspective of "us vs them". Doing that only shoehorns people in debates and then it just becomes mud slinging matches. Most people here respect intelligence. If you are gonna talk politics, but talk complete nonsense, we will call you out on it.

Why are thousands of UN assigned scientists who have been working on this for over a decade all agree that global warming exists?

In one year alone they put out the equalivent to 10 Billion SUVs running 10,000 a year. But nobody is tell them to quit with the Poluting. No Republican can win on these boards. If a Governor sends guys to the chair, he's a dirtbag. If he let's a guy out who he thinks is fit to be free, he's screwed.

How many guys were sent to the chair that may have really been innocent? It cuts both ways.

Huck made a mistake. How he answers this will be key. If we want a mistake free President, we all better just stay home.

I love the way you call him Huck like you are old buddies. :whatever:

Anyhow...isn't it convenient that this comes out as soon as Huckabee takes the lead in Iowa. The Giulliani team must've been working overtime on this one. But sadly, it is a bit inaccurate. Huckabee pushed for his release, granted (and he now acknowledges that as a mistake. I know, I know, Obama never makes any mistakes but alas we can't all be perfect :whatever:), but in the end, the governor has no control over who is released on parole. The parole was determined by the state board of parole, all of whom in this case were appointed by Bill Clinton and Jim Guy Tucker, both of whom are Democrats.

I COMPLETELY agree with you here. We really need to hold China accountable for the damage they're doing to the environment and to their own country with their terrible polution. China's own people have to wear gas masks in some places! But...

But nobody is tell them to quit with the Poluting.

I disagree with you here. I think you'd find plenty of environmentalists that would have China at the top of their list of things that need to change to improve the environment. If Bush is so great, when was the last time he made an effort to co-operate with western countries to make a real change, or tell China to change their polluting ways?

But things are going 100% better over there and nobody is talking about it. You are correct about the Hitler thing, but I think that is exactly where Iran is right now. They hosted a Holucaust denile conference ut says it wants to start a 2nd Holucaust! So in one hand they say that it never happened then in the other hand they want to do in again!

Woah, woah, hold on! Don't you think "100% better" is an exaggeration, if indeed things have improved at all? What about the massive amount of job loss in Iraq, and the weekly bombings? They didn't have weekly bombings under Hussein did they? And did the Iraqi people ask for us to invade? No. America invaded for its own selfish reasons and don't dellude yourself into believing otherwise.

And saying Iran wants to create a second Holocaust is a little weak. There is absolutely nothing to back that up.

I think with a lot of these political debates people are going to pull facts and opinions out as to the legitimacy or the illegitimacy of whom they are backing or are opposed to. This by default means that topics are going to stray a bit from time to time. From what I have seen they tend to wander right back where they supposed to be all on their own.

With a board of this size one would think that there is a little more room for flexibility in these types of discussions. As a mod on an official NFL site myself I understand the need to somewhat keep things on track and keep things somewhat clean. But in this case I would respectfully ask why some of you guys feel the overwhelming need to be so darn stringent and completely over moderate at times? I mean things arte not even remotely out of hand in this thread or others I have seen threatened to be lock or straight up locked out.

I think we hear about Clinton's mistakes a lot. Keep in mind, he has been out of office for 8 years. Its not exactly practical to report his shortcomings in this kind of article.

21, 1999, Dunleavy wrote a column headlined "Clinton's Biggest Crime - Left Innocent Man In Jail For 14 Years": "Dumond, now 52, was given conditional parole yesterday in Arkansas after having being sentenced to 50 years in jail for the rape of Clinton's cousin," Dunleavy wrote. "That rape never happened."

I know the Bush/Obama analogy is stupid, that was the point.

I think we hear about Clinton's mistakes a lot. Keep in mind, he has been out of office for 8 years. Its not exactly practical to report his shortcomings in this kind of article. If something like this happened while Clinton was in office and newspapers ignored it, you'd have a point. But news is CURRENT events. Bill Clinton is no longer current.
But the only relevence I see is Hillary has come out over and over again saying that if she happened to need the guidence of her husband, she would seek it. So in effect, Bill's back in the spotlight, so he's fair game.

But my point is Bill Clinton made mistakes and we don't hear about it. A republican makes a mistake and it's front page news. I'm used to the double sided issues though.
All I've heard about is Clinton's mistakes.
Eight years of relative peace...but he had sex outside marriage.
Eight years of relative prosperity...but he had sex outside marriage.
Multiple years of surplus to pay down debt...but he had sex outside marriage.

I mean, if we want to come at Clinton for something, let's come at him about the fact that the chick he banged was overweight and relatively unattractive. Clinton made little secret that Kennedy was someone he admired, but [Lloyd Bentsen]Monica Lewinsky is no Marilyn Monroe, Mr. President[/Lloyd Bentsen]

They both remind me of my boss. Who reminds me of Lex Luthor.

In all seriousness, though, I think this alone is damaging to Huckabee. Especially in comparison to Giuliani and Romney, who so far haven't had this kind of thing.

Did this guy go on to re-offend??

If so, did the people that wanted him released apologise, like the guy from the New York Post?

What is your point? The man wasn't pardoned. He was paroled. Even if Huckabee supported it, he did not have the power to parole him. Only the state parole board did.

What gives?

On that note

Huckabee is a Christian whack job who thinks the earth is 5000 years old… good choice Huck fans. :oldrazz:

exactly. thanks.

Perhaps, but why should events that are public knowledge that occured 8 years ago be splashed all over head lines? If Clinton some how got someone pardoned today who went out and re-offended tomorrow, I would see your point.

Well I will anyway. Because this board is probably 10 times larger than the one you moderate. It has tens of thousands of users. One little post and a thread snowballs within 15 minutes. As to your point about political threads bouncing around, It would be one thing if this were the thread on Mike Huckabee's campaign, but its not. It is a thread on a specific news issue.

Oh yeah SHH is much larger not 10 times (it is an offical NFL site for a team) but larger.

On my board we are only rocking:

Threads: 34,437, Posts: 1,040,217, Members: 10,757. as of 2 min ago.

I understand the nature of the OP but Huckabee is a current presidential candidate. It is inevitable that the discussion is going to flow in that direction as that fact is current and relevant as well.

Just sayin. :cwink:

I understand your point, but again, we have a Huckabee campaign thread. We have a 2008 election thread, we have a global warming thread. And hell, your point would hold water if it had anything to do with Huckabee. It did not. They were discussing global warming in general. Not Huckabee's stance. Just global warming in CHINA.

i do, but i think you're going about it all wrong. i've always viewed mods as being there to stop people from breaking the rules of the hype. since when is going off-topic forbidden? even when they do go off topic, they usually meander back on topic within a few pages. you seem to have an itchy trigger finger. i can understand pet peeves, but if you're put in a position of authority, making everyone adhere to your narrow personal preferences, outside of the rules of the forum, seems kind of dictatorial. i'm probably overstating things, so don't take everything i say literally, but you know what i mean.
