lol at bloopers, don't know if you all touched on it, but what are your thoughts on the Green Lantern moving ahead, with the script and all.

The Scifi thing is more of a concession prize to Iron Man

I'd agree with that. Do we know who Iron Man was going up against in that category?

That was what I was thinking....like they loved the movie, but classified it as sci-fi so it would get an award, cause they couldnt take it from TDK

BEST SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE
Cloverfield
I Am Legend
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Iron Man
Southland Tales
WALL-E

I would guess Wall-E was Iron Man's biggest competition.

Did you ever think you'd see "Indiana Jones" in the "sci fi" category?

I wouldn't know, I didn't watch it. I heard Indy had a weird subplot about aliens, and the infamous "nuke the fridge" scene.

Honestly, I didn't watch much movies in 2008, because I've been a busy or enamored by other things. And speaking of which, why the hell is I am Legend Scifi? I own and loved the book, it was more of a horror. It inspired the whole zombie sub genre. I didn't watch the movie either. Man, I feel like a walking irony considering the forum I am posting in right now :o

I liked the movie...good movie IMO...quite different from the book I have been told...but hey, its hollywood, finding a movie that is the same as the book is more rare than a 4 leaf clover

I am Legend is one of those stories that insanely difficult to adapt since the premise involves no human interaction. Neville is the ONLY human. I fathom they broke down and probably had another human or two to make it work.

The ending in the book was bleak as hell, when he finds out he was the "monster" to the vampires. Throughout the book he goes and kills vampires during the day, and to the vampires this was monstrous. Hence the title "I am Legend"; he is the legendary Dracula in reverse.

But yea your right, these movies does not sound like Scifi films at all. Only Wall-E

Meaning no disrespect to our friends at Pixar, if "Wall-E" is science fiction, then "The Land Before Time" is a Discovery Channel documentary.

"That which does not kill us, makes us Stranger" was the most iconic line from The Dark Knight in my view.

With all the hype about the "Why So Serious?" line/phrase the movie almost threw it away and the "How about a magic trick?" line isn't very iconic, on its own it needs to be put in context which to me means it's not a good line but a good scene.

I agree with you in the sense that "why so serious" is basically an empty line. When we first heard it, it was used as a threat by The Joker and was a very menacing line. In the film, it's a flashback line. If I had to vote, "Let's put a smile on that face" was my favorite line out of context, but in context, my favorite line is "Ooooh, very poor choice of words." It's no "Frankly my dear", but it captures the essence of the character in my opinion.

The problem I have with the "Stranger" line is that I still don't know what it means in the context of the movie. The Joker's ambiguous backstory, one of the character's biggest strengths, removes any reference as to what exactly he's talking about. If Jack Nicholson's Joker had said that line, I would've gotten every bit of it, but to be honest, I have no clue what Heath Ledger means when he says that line. Maybe that's the strength of the line... it's a bit of gibberish spoken by a lunatic psycho that makes perfect sense to him.

I welcome any Hypester to educate me as to why that line was the best out of all of them. With a character that rich, I could throw a rock and hit a line he says better than that one.

Addendum: I would put "why so serious?" ahead of all the other lines if we're talking about the last time he says the line in that scene. After reading the script and watching some of the footage, I feel it does reveal his inner menace, not in the typical "Joker" sense of his victims laughing themselves to death but of his total disregard for human life.

I really shoulda taken Cinema Studies in college. That could've been a thesis paper.

Teacher: I'm going to have to give you a failing grade.
Score: Why so serious?

Nah. I'd do the entire scene. I've got that puppy memorized, and when I perform it I scare little children. Sadly, that's not much of a change from "non-performing" me...

Love the podcast guys! Just picked it up. Just curious on who we have slated so far for this Avengers movie. I'm assuming Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Nick Fury...who else? Would they possibly use this as a springboard movie for several spinoffs? I've heard talks of an Ant-Man movie for a while...can we assume Hank Pym is going to be a part of it?

You're right on the money, except that Marvel will be launching these franchises before the Avengers Movie. That movie will be tying everything together, which is a new and interesting way of handling characters. However, I am personally worried that if one of these movies bombs, it might de-rail "The Avengers." The only way to avoid that is for Marvel to realize that not every movie has the appeal of "Iron Man" or "The Incredible Hulk."

Agreed. So Ant-Man and Wasp aren't going to be in it then? Personally I think that Avengers might be a good time to throw in a few more. I'd rather see them than two Iron-Men (War Machine).

I would assume they are adding in more...and just keeping it quiet...
