Why would the Mets agree to that Halladay deal? They have no chance of winning this season. Jays just suck with trades and contracts.
On another note, Mitre is pitching for the Yankees tonight and he's our new #5, which is a little bit frightening because he kinda sucked in his time in the majors.

I don't think the Mets can afford to bring in Halladay. Plus they need that money for a bat. They might as well give up nothing for Vernon Wells and bank on Toronto eating a lot of that salary. I'd make the deal if they were able to sign him obviously. Plus who knows what Toronto is really going to ask for when the time comes.

Josh Hamilton makes only $555,000 this year (well, something close to that). How much will he get next year if his second half picks up? I know lots of players in the MLB, NFL, NBA get overpaid, but...I feel Hamilton should be making more money. Kinda like Vlad Guerrero (before injuries_ he's one of the few players I can see actually deserving more than 10 million a year. If Hamilton were to have his 2008 numbers or number that close rest of his career, could he make the HOF? Like if he played until he was 40 and still hit at least 25 homers and 100 RBI a season? (which he won't do this year)

Wow...just embarrassing...
I'm not sure this story has any relevance, but I'll admit I just found it somewhat hilarious.
The New York Daily News reports that Mets vice president of player development Tony Bernazard recently exploded on the Mets Double-A affiliate Binghamton during a post game meeting.
Supposedly, Bernazard removed his shirt and challenged the team to a fight, specifically the report says he was speaking to second baseman Jose Coronado who has really been struggling. Coronado, 23, is batting .141 in 85 at-bats for Binghamton. Apparently, Bernazard shouted a "slang term referring to a women's anatomy" (please don't try to guess the answer in the comment section) at Coronado directly challenging him to fight him.
Now sources in the story also said that performance was not the only reason for Bernazard's tirade, it seems alleged underage drinking was another factor in his outburst.
Mets GM Omar Minaya was asked about the outburst, and while not admitting anything specific he did say he was aware of the meeting.
"I know he did have a team meeting with them," Minaya told the Daily News. "It was not a 'you-guys-have-been-great meeting.' I know he spoke to them in a stern voice. But as far as what he was wearing, what kind of shoes he was wearing, I don't know anything about that."
The Mets Binghamton team has been awful this year. They're currently in last place with a record of 37-58, which puts them 16 ½ games behind the division lead.
Maybe Bernazard is on to something. Maybe Omar Minaya should rip his shirt off and challenge the Mets to a fight. Who knows it might help them turn things around.

They need to get rid of Bernazard but the owners like him. It is because of Bernazard that I don't want Minaya to be fired. I am sure that Bernazard would take his place.
I remember hearing a story that when Delgado was a FA, Bernazard went to talk to him and was apparently talking street Spanish which Delgado didn't like.

That wouldn't even give him 400 home runs. And he'll never be able to do that.
Look, he's a kinda likable guy (I guess) but this is only his third big league season, and he doesn't even have 60 career home runs yet. And last year was pretty much a fluke/product of Arlington.

The guy was the #1 pick out of H.S. by Tampa Bay back in 99.
He could hit a baseball over 500 feet in the minors/highschool.
2008 Wasn't no Fluke.
Then again, he never played past AA in the minors, and at that he mostly play A ball before making the Reds opening day roster in 2007.
To me, I'm a fan because he seems likeable and his story is amazing. I imagine if he didn't do drugs (and the injuries in the minors) he could very well be HOF.
It's like Ken Griffrey Jr. If he enevr got injured all the time with the Reds, he'd have well over 700 home runs and be #1 all-time HR King.

Don't throw a parade over the standings in July. They don't mean anything for at least another month.
I never said they meant anything in the long run, but for now it's just good to be in first. The Yankees have been struggling for a while now and their hard work and money spent seems to be paying off.
Where was I in the beginning? (1) In school (as usual, summer provides tons of free time to post) and (2) I usually only post in the community forum/didn't know of this forum's existence. Check my posting record if you want. LOL

Well, Marlins swept the Padres after being swept by Philly to begin the 2nd Half. Hoepfully we can take 2 at LA over the weekend. 49-47.
And Nolasco was on fire today. 6.1 innings....3 walks, 0 runs, 10 K's, and like 2 hits.
They should have swept the Padres. They've had the worst record in baseball since the beginning of June. Nice way to end the skid. Hopefully they'll fair better against the Dodgers on the road than they did at home.

It will be a key, just like the Yankees series at home. :yay: and...took 2 out of 3 from those Yanks.
Worst case scenario is that the Marlins win Friday when JJ starts, but lose the next two. I want Johnson to strikeout Manny and make him look silly in the process.

The Yankees could easily lose the next 6 games, while the Red Sox win the next 6.
I think the Yankees will have their patch of losses soon enough. If it happens during the Rays/Sox series they can easily slip to third. If the Rays were out of it the rest of the year would be a snooze fest... although Texas is still hanging around and the NL Wild Card MIGHT get interesting although I doubt it.

Thing about him is that he doesn't rely on overpowering hitters, he's pretty much always topped out at the mid 80s and he can probably, if he really wanted to, pitch another good 8-10 years like that. But again, it all depends on him. He could probably get over 200 wins if he goes that route, and have a real shot at the HoF, but he's stated before that he doesn't want to be a lifer, and that he may actually retire after his contract is up.

Is this good or bad? The team no doubt has talent to finish over.500 for the second year in a row, but without a trade can the Marlins make the playoffs (I think so, but a trade would increase those chances)
And why aren't the Marlins letting Hanely steal more often. He got 51 stolen bases two years in a row not long ago.

The only big move they'll probably make is bringing Maybin back up within the next few weeks for the stretch run. Hopefully his success in the minors can translate to the big leagues because if the Marlins want to even sniff the playoffs they'll need that bat. They're just fine pitching-wise, but man, Hanley can't do it all on his own on that end. I wouldn't have been opposed to letting a Hermida or Uggla-type go in exchange for a guy like Holliday who's not going to cost you much in terms of money and help you out during the playoff run, but of course, Beinfest and Co. look like they're just going to sit pretty and be happy to even crack .500 instead catching up to the Phillies or snatching the Wild Card.

Hey, Marlins went 84-77 last year under Fredi's second year as manager. Maybe front office will be just happy with a record similar to that again? I don't want to see though...the front office be 'happy' with .500 or better ball, but not good enough ball to get into playoffs. I'm getting the feeling the front office wait...until 2012...(new stadium) and then increae payroll soon after, and try to always be a playoff team.
If I was the front office, I would have trade Uggla or Hermida. Not bad players (course I would go after a closer, but Holliday....sounds better now u mention it) Also Holliday would probably get fans in the seats than a closer would. There's no question the Marlins can finish 2nd or 3rd this year, hopefully its 1st or 2nd for Wild Card.
Also Cantu and Ross are there behind Hanely, but Hnaely is of course having a better year than those two.

They haven't taken themselves out....Philly is still the favorite at this point. They are easily the best fit and the team Haladay wants to go to. The deal itself might change a little from what I've read.
Angels don't have the parts according to some sites. Said they offered Weaver and and a choice of infield and outfield prospects and that wasn't enough.
Dodgers would only get it done if they added Kershaw which they won't.
The Jays want major league ready talent and I don't think The Dodgers have that in the minors.

Actually at the mid season rankings BA did Brown was 17 and Drabek and Taylor 23 and 24. Knapp was also in the top 50 (Phillies only team with four in the top 50). Some of the contributors in the comment section said both Brown Drabek and Taylor will make significant jumps again.
The Bluejays are going to want either Posey or Bumgarner it's really that simple. Whoever does this trade they're going to want that teams best prospects. I do agree though...in the end I don't think he'll get moved.

The Jays want major league ready talent and I don't think The Dodgers have that in the minors.

Haha basicallly this thing changes every hour. The Jays are getting a little ridiculous with these demands.
The Angels offer was a good offer as was The Phillies original offer.
Both teams offered a major league pitcher off the roster and two-three high end prospects for a guy that will test the FA market in a year and a half.
Halladay is great and will help any team but I don't want to gut the farm system for him.

If that was the Jays counteroffer it should have been accepted. I like Saunders, but getting Halladay without giving up Weaver is huge. Wood still hasn't proven he can hit, and he has no position. Aybar would be the biggest loss, but he's easily replaced with Maicer Izturis, and a prospect is a prospect in the end. They should push Bourjos on them though (he has absolutely no plate discipline whatsoever).
It would sting a bit, but the Angels should make that trade. A rotation of Halladay, Lackey, Weaver, Santana, and O'Sullivan (Matt Palmer if they take him) would give the Angels the rotation they need without hurting the offense too badly.

He probably still wanted to go out and pitch even though he'd been ill. Pitched a great game too, I wouldn't have even guessed he had the flu had I not heard during the broadcast.

They will just end up losing 2 of 3 next time they play the Phillies anyhow so I wouldn't get your hopes up. I don't know how many games they have left against the wild card leaders so that may be your only way in.
And a nice comeback by the Rays today. They will be my number one team I root for the rest of the year.

I do agree though...in the end I don't think he'll get moved.
oh man, i didn't see those midseason ranks.
bumgarner and posey are ranked 5 and 6 respectively...can't wait till next year when they should both be on the giants.

It makes more sense for them to go after Lee. Like you said, they wouldn't be dumping all their good prospects in Toronto's lap for Halladay.

Nice win and 5-1 on the trip is good for the team. Off day tomorrow...just need to take 2 out of 3 from those Braves. And the pen is shaky, but at least Lindstrom ain't closer again.
Those Phillies are just on fire...maybe when the Marlins face them rest of the year, they can bring water from the cean near Miami and cool them down.
