What I want to know is why the 12 year old girl was taken alone to the clubhouse. Why did the parents allow them to take their kid off somewhere by themselves? That just seems...off.
Oh, and the ball was almost certainly authenticated on-site so it shouldn't have been too hard for them to make sure they got the right one back.oh ok

Dodgers pull out game 1, their bullpen pulled them through. Matt Kemp's 1st Inning homerun was huge.

Did you know Dane Cook is friends with Immortal on MySpace?
How did u know?!
How could I forget? haha. Sadly, he won't be around until the Marlins make some minute offseason move.
Was planning on it....but I did catch some of the Twins/Yankees. Wow.
Don't really care for the playoff teams...I would like to see a Twins/Rockies WS. Or Yankees/Rockies or just Yankees winning the WS.The evil empire is up for a WS win...been like 9 years since last one?

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillygossip/Marlins_pitcher_Sean_Wests_wild_Saturday_night.htm l
Marlins reliever Sean West had a wild Saturday night, being involved in one fight, nearly provoking another, then getting lucky with a groupie at his hotel. West was leaving G Lounge (111 S. 17th) close to 2 a.m. Sunday morning when he was involved in a bit of pushing and shoving with a few other men. The 6-foot-8 rookie then climbed into a limousine with five women, cleat chasers, who had traveled in from Florida to hang out with the Marlins.
Limo driver Big Penny, says that while driving on Locust Street near 13th, West, 23, heckled a group of men, who then surrounded the car and threatened him, while Big Penny pleaded with the angry crowd not to harm his car, a Cadillac DTS sedan. Penny says one of West’s harem then vomited in the car, traveling up 13th Street, then again on Market Street, causing him to pull over at the Robert N.C. Nix, Sr. Federal Building where Penny says the pitcher nearly passed out.
“This motherf----- was laying on the ledge with his flip-flops on,” Penny says as the girls tried to make their friend feel better.
Penny says West told him that he would pay for any cleaning, since he has a lot of money. When the limo arrived at the Hyatt Regency Penn’s Landing, where the team stayed, West got out of the car with one of the women, and said they were heading to get a towel, but also annoucnced his intent to have sex with his companion, and never returned.
Penny says he called West Sunday morning demanding payment for the clean-up, and West claimed he didn’t know the women. When Penny told him “You told me you were banging the one girl,” West said that he knew her.
A Marlins spokeswoman did not return our detailed request for comment today.

What else is a baseball player supposed to do? Took a page right out of the Josh Hamilton playbook.
The sad thing is, he probably woke up the next morning, hung over feeling like **** and then he remembered "I still play for the Marlins." He then proceeded to finish off the mini bar.

I saw that story on the local news. The girl was apparently whisked away by security after catching the ball and then had it "taken" from her. That's when/why all the unncessary legal BS started up. It is ridiculous though. Give the ball back, get a picture, autograph, bag of cotton candy. Whatever. You're really going to involve lawyers for a ****ing baseball?
Someone probably told them afterwards that the ball was worth more than whatever they gave her in exchange and suddenly they wanted it back to so they could sell it. :whatever:
I remember a few years ago someone caught a home run for Baltimore, and said he wanted a ton of stuff from them for it's return - including a signed Cal Ripken bat. They told him to keep the ball.

This happened to the Marlins earlier this season with some "professional" guy who pretty much makes a living catching homeruns. It was in Milwaukee and I think it was Coghlan's first homerun. The guy wanted a laundry list of things and the Marlins were being kind of *******s about it.

That happened to my friend's little boy at a Mets game once during batting practice. It was someone from the Brewers, can't remember who, caught the ball and tried to toss it to him, but this idiot jumped in front of him and took the ball.
So the next ball he caught, he yelled "Hey Mom!" at my friend and told her toss him her son's hat. He put the ball in his hat and tossed them both back to them so no one else would take them.

Good to see Yankees win Game 1, and A-Rod finally broke out of his post-season slump. Kinda surprised about Dodgers win though; I picked Cardinals to win Game 1 and the series in 4, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong because I do wish Dodgers will end up in the WS and against the Yanks.

Watching Hughes strike out Cabrera was great. I don't think I've ever seen Cabrera make an out in the postseason. If Joba is anything like the old Joba in the bullpen then that bullpen will be so sick. 6 innings from a starter, come out with a lead and good night the lights. And what can you say about Matsui, guy is a machine. Just business as usual for him.

That happened at a game I went to a few years ago. It was one out, bottom of the 12th, Giambi was at first. My friend and I were both up and cheering, but my friend turned to me and said, "Double play?" I said, "Oh yeah, definitely."
Then he hit it out and won the game. We were stunned. :wow:

I think most Phillies fans thought he would turn it on once the playoffs started because he was so dominant last year in the playoffs. To his credit Howard had his typical bad throw to 2nd in the first that cost us a run...that shook him a little.

Wow, amazing finish by the Dodgers last night. I was listening to the game on radio on way home from work and the crowd noise was deafening. Now Dodgers have to wrap the series up in St. Louis, because Cards is too dangerous a team to let them hang around until Game 5. Nice to see the Halos shutting out Red Sox, a team that historically have given them problems, as well.

Police: Ejected Phils fan stole World Series rings
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—A masked fan ejected from a Phillies playoff game is charged with stealing three World Series rings from a ballpark office.
The Phillies have now had four such rings stolen since winning the title last year.
Police say 22-year-old Matthew Mervine of Berlin, N.J., was videotaped taking the rings Thursday. They say he had also left his contact information on a job application.
The purloined rings are cheaper models of the $11,000 rings given to players. They are worth about $1,100 and intended for scouts.
Police found them at Mervine’s home when he was arrested on theft charges. He does not have a listed phone number and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
A ballpark janitor is charged with stealing a team executive’s diamond championship ring left in a restroom last month.

I haven't seen plays by a Buckner that bad at first base since 1986.
No excuse for losing though. You gotta score some runs. I figured after throwing 50 plus pitches in 3 innings Lack would get tired, but he got stronger as the game went on. He pitched well.
Hey Ray Lewis you see what I did there? I didn't blame a loss on the Officials.

You have to be objective as well, weren't people overblowing it in 2005 and 2006? And again with the steroids? I mean I am not saying A-Rod is the second coming of Pope John Paul or anything, but people overdid it with the bashing. I don't know what the deal is with this schedule. You telling me you couldn't fill Saturday with potentially 3 games? I hate that BS Wed. Fri. Sunday series the Yanks got to play. Off day every other day? They should have lined up a 3 6 10 for Saturday, instead of two tonight and three games tomm. Sunday is ridiculous. Lame start time for Angels Sox (12:07), but I guess you have to get that game out of the way for the Pats at 4:00. Then Yanks/Cardinals/Rockies to follow the same day??? Monday will be ridiculous as well if there is a game 4 for Yanks/Twins. Yanks at 5:00 makes sense to clear the Jets for MNF, but then as you said, Rocks Phils at 10:07 on Sunday night before Angels/Sox finish? Terrible job by TBS/MLB.

Another call for instant replay
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-replay101009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
On Friday night, a bad call might have cost the Minnesota Twins (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/min/;_ylt=AuNFfVpfasUoQWMKyzlFSiIHU84F) a chance to beat the New York Yankees (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/nyy/;_ylt=AtEec8163jfrrdTqt1dwqkYHU84F) on the road in their American League Division Series. In the 11th inning of Game 2, Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7062/;_ylt=AiJ6cG6KxLuL_UNdTloQLxMHU84F) sliced a ball down the left-field line that not only glanced off Melky Cabrera’s (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7595/;_ylt=AlkJyEam05S96_BMJ_OfvZQHU84F) glove in fair territory but also bounced at least 6 inches inside the line and then into the stands for what should’ve been a ground-rule double. Umpire Phil Cuzzi, standing 10 feet away, called it foul. And even though Mauer singled and the Twins managed to load the bases with no outs, they didn’t score, and the Yankees won 4-3 on a Mark Teixeira (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6788/;_ylt=ApFTg3ZVm2Cv_YBGy.91OZoHU84F) home run later that inning.
More From Jeff Passan
The Twins were here, of course, because of an umpiring error earlier in the week. A pitch glanced off the jersey of Detroit third baseman Brandon Inge (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6681/;_ylt=AuWbOnW6iL2g2BPrf8IMdjcHU84F) with the bases loaded in the 12th inning of the Tigers’ one-game playoff with Minnesota. Umpire Randy Marsh didn’t call it. The Twins scored in the bottom half of the inning. Marsh claimed not to have seen the video, and MLB’s umpiring boss, Mike Port, said he stood by Marsh.
So that’s what baseball has come to: supporting egregious flubs to protect their own. It’s the epitome of an old-boys’ network, and it’s insulting to the game. MLB says it uses a grading system during the regular season that rewards the best umpires with playoff assignments. That alleged fair and impartial grading system, mind you, rewarded a postseason series to C.B. Bucknor, about whom a player once said: “My grandpa would be a better umpire than him. And my grandpa is dead.”
Bucknor, by the way, blew three calls at first base in Game 1 of the Red Sox-Angels series. Bungling one call is bad. Mangling two is unconscionable. Blowing three in a single game is fireable.:lmao:

On the scheduling, I think what they can do to sort of create more flexibility, make some teams play a 1-2-2 format instead of the usual 2-2-1. Travel is pretty much the same, and that way it would make sense giving teams a day off after game one. Plus you can get pretty much play all the games in prime time with afternoon games on the weekends.

Cards can't square up Padilla's fastball. That has been their downfall tonight. I type this as Molina gets a double. heh.

if the Angels play the Yanks, the Halos are going to run up the score like they need BCS points
Yanks scored 7 off a rookie lefty and such in game 1. scored 3 runs from the 9th on in game 2. I think the Angel pitching will be fine for the most part.

I'll just say that (assuming it all shakes out like it's looking) I'm a heck of a lot more confident in the Angels going against the Yankees than I was against the Red Sox.

Buchholz is eh. Angels outta push the envelope against him. Kazmir should do ok.

I'm actually looking forward to the NYY/LAA series(if it all plays out). I think it could be a 7 game series.

Who is Anaheim throwing out there for 3/4? The way Boston has played I'd be shocked if they get back to Anaheim. Should be a great semi-final either way. Rockies slipping in there would be a snooze, but Phillies/Dodgers/Anaheim/Yanks is as good for the ratings as you can get. Only Mets/Sox in place of two of those four teams other than the Yanks would be better. What would they call it if it's Dodgers/Anaheim? Hollywood Series?

It has and always will be the Freeway series, Mr. Obsessed with Ratings tonie. Kazmir goes in game 3, Saunders in game 4, both have good histories in Fenway.
More than enough people would be calling a cakewalk for the Yankees to counteract my humble confidence booster.

I'll be pulling hard for Sosa (Angel manager) anyhow. I will sacrifice my own life soon after sacrificing the lives of my first two newborns for that team should the Angels get it done this year.

wow, who woulda thunk that the dodgers would win the series, much less sweep?!
i hate the dodgers, but they deserve props; additionally the cards wasted a chance to change the dynamic of the series when they choked game 2 away.

He's the only manager who is never going to be fired. Cox is retiring next year so I'm not counting him. I recall reading that Gardenhire's seat as getting hot before the Twins went on their late run.

Gardenhire sucked and Bobby Cox only had a handful of ML at bats. Torre is a HoF catcher IMO but he's an overrated manager. John McGraw is the best player to have become a great manager.

For all intents and purpose, they've said the team is Scioscia's until he doesn't want it anymore. How many managers in this day and age get ten year contract extensions?
Gardenhire has always been one of the top managers. He shouldn't get fired because of a bad outing by Nathan and Phil Cuzzi.

None. Did Lasorda ever get a 10 year extension?

I agree he shouldn't be fired but I recall reading some rumors they might have considered firing him. That was before their run though so his job is safe as it should be.

Gardenhire is iffy, he's a lesser version of Scioscia if you ask me cause they do implement the small ball. Angels seem to execute it more effectively.

It was a joke wise guy... I was asking for a facepalm. Just had no clue how to spell it with all those vowels in there. Figured I might as well substitute with a ball player that sounded similar.
On other matters, the only way the Angels will beat the Yanks is if they put pressure on that Yankee pitching. Sort of like a football gameplan. Work up the the counts. Get into that suspect middle relief in the 6th or 7th innings. Steal, force walks, keep the Yankees offense on the bench and keep them cold, guessing, overthinking, and pressing. And they have to get inside A-Rod's head. Walk Tex to get to A-Rod early. Make him think he has to beat you early and then him get impatient toward the latter stages of the game. If A-Rod and Tex press, it will have a carry over to the rest of that lineup. I think they can definitely pull it off. If the Angels bullpen gets caught up in that Yankee mystique they'll be lucky to win two games.

On that matter, the only chance the Yankees have is if they remember how to hit. They sure seem to be struggling to score against the likes of Duensing, Blackburn, and even Carl Pavano. Can't wait to see them against Lackey, Weaver, and Kazmir.

As long as the Yankees pitching keeps them in games, the offense will come through. But like I said yesterday, this should be a 7 game series. The only upside the Yankees will have is Lackey and Weaver pitching game 1 and 2 on the road.
