Looks like the Angels bullpen is gonna blow it again. If it's Phils Yanks I better get my starters to go 9 innings if I am Manuel.

How do you not send the runner there on the ground ball with no outs. God awful....

It was the catcher, Mathis, running. That's an automatic out.

Just putting things in perspective dude, I just viewed the homestand as a 36 inning game where they had to be leading after every nine. Not to downplay the win, but they have to complete the homestand. Otherwise I'd rather have them lose the next two and hope the Yanks suffer from a layoff.

Those who know me know I tend to one of the most pessimistic fans on here... especially being a Met fan. It's just that need to always bring the fanbase down and make them feel like their team is constantly stuck in the lowest level of crap there is, because the only direction from there is up.

... I don't know what game you have been watching.

I've been watching a Yankee team that has 1 good starter and is 0/20 with RISP. A team that had a runner on third with less than 2 outs twice and didn't score. A team that lives solely by the HR and cannot manufacture runs.

Talent wise they have the Angels beat. The Angels are a much better team though. They'll win this series.

Angels have been having the same problems this series. Yanks have the better clutch hitting and bullpen. Unless their middle relief falls apart Yanks will win this in 6.

Btw, what are C.C's numbers on short rest?

Kurosawa
10-19-2009, 08:54 PM
3-1 with a 1.01 ERA career.

Angels hit .297 against him.

It'll probably be a close game which favors the Angels since they are at home and they can manufacture runs, whereas the Yanks are HR or bust.

Im here for those jackasses dissing us yankees fans for only coming to gloat a win.

Good win for the Angels...The yankees should have held onto that 3-0 lead, but we lost this game on Girardi micro-managing this game. Instead of going on your gut, he goes with a terrible matchup. Aceves has sucked all postseason. Robertson has actually gotten the yankees out of a hiccup.
Just terrible coaching right there...But the Angels had to win this game. The momentum is now on their side and the Yankees need a big game from CC tomorrow. I consider a must win because if we lose with CC on the mound then I say the Angels have got their confidence back.

I still think Angels bullpen is weaker and will stumble if the starters keep exiting by the 5th inning.

FaT_tONle

Yanks are fine until someone shuts them down at home IMO.

The Chris
10-19-2009, 09:54 PM
From what I've seen, The Yankees are a better team than the Angels. So far I'd say our hitting and pitching are both superior. However, I think their manager is better. I had a problem with our skipper taking Pettitte out after one out in the 7th(let the starter pitch seven innings will you?) and I had a problem with taking Robertson out for no reason. There's no justification for that. No numbers game there. It was just stupid. As long as Girardi stops goofing up I think the Yanks will win.

Everyone on the way out of the stadium was alternating between "Yankees suck" and "Let's go Mathis." Honestly don't know how you can have a better game than that. Throw out the would-be go-ahead run right before Posada's home run and then hit the game-winning double. Go Mathis.

lolololololol.

I actually give you some credit for showing your face in here after a loss.

They had to send someone in to be ripped apart.

Just putting things in perspective dude, I just viewed the homestand as a 36 inning game where they had to be leading after every nine. Not to downplay the win, but they have to complete the homestand. Otherwise I'd rather have them lose the next two and hope the Yanks suffer from a layoff.

Thankfully it doesn't matter what you would rather have. All they can do is play each game and do their thing. This is the kind of game that can completely shift momentum.

Im here for those jackasses dissing us yankees fans for only coming to gloat a win.

Stick a fork in Dodgers; they are done for this series. It's kinda funny how Dodgers were supposed to have one of the better bullpens (as opposed to a wild and inconsistent rotation), and they had a 1 run lead but couldn't protect it. Too bad for the Dodgers, as they will lose yet again to the Phillies two years straight. If next year is indeed Torre's last year, I think they should try to make some acquisition and make a final push for the WS, but then again by hoarding all those some players they have instead of trading them for a Cliff Lee-type player, I'm not even sure if they want to win now or few years down the line, when those players are more experienced. The closer role is overrated because of Rivera. Everyone thinks they have to have a great closer because of him. The truth is not every game comes down to the 9th inning. Sometimes the game is decided before then.

When that happens, Torre will be gone, and Dodgers might have some front office changes thanks to McCourt's impending divorce.

most likely. The Dodgers best shot is that they would have the final two games at home. Problem is, that last year after they blew it in game 4, they didn't put up any fight in game 5. We shall see

LA Angels: Save the talk about Mariano Rivera spitting on ball in Game 3

BY Roger Rubin (http://www.nydailynews.com/authors/Roger%20Rubin)
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Wednesday, October 21st 2009, 4:00 AM

ANAHEIM (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Los+Angeles+Angels+of+Anaheim) - The mere suggestion that the Yankees (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/New+York+Yankees)' Mariano Rivera (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Mariano+Rivera) throws a spitball was met with laughter and rolled eyes from the Angels' locker room Tuesday.

At his news conference before Game 4 of the ALCS Tuesday night, Halos manager Mike Scioscia (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Mike+Scioscia) seemed equal parts surprised and amused to be asked about the possibility and that Major League Baseball (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Major+League+Baseball) had examined an 11-second video circulating on the Internet that may or may not show Rivera spitting on a baseball during Game 3.

"This is the first I'm hearing about this," Scioscia said. "I didn't even know that there was any indication that it's been looked at."

Scioscia said that no one in baseball, from scouts to players, had ever even suggested to him that Rivera uses a spitter.

"There are certainly some guys that might be suspect, never Mariano with anything that I've heard or been part of," he said. "And I'd be shocked if there was anything to that."

Few players even deigned to discuss the matter, and a couple said they had no interest in being quoted in a story about such an allegation.

"Whoever put that video on the Internet has too much time on his hands," Torii Hunter (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Torii+Hunter) said dismissively.

"That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of," another Angels position player said. "We're talking about one of the best (pitchers) in history."

"The guy throws one pitch and he throws it better than anyone ever has," said one Angels pitcher, referring to Rivera's cut fastball. "It's stupid to even suggest it."

Seriously...Mariano is a legend. Even though he became hittable but still very rarely beatable after that 2001 World Series.

CC looked in command, and if this series goes to 7 games...The big guy is going to be on normal rest.

Im worried about game 5 though...Lackey vs. Burnett. AJ could stumble here...He does have putrid games here and there. But if his curveball is somewhat on target then this will come down to the wire again.

However, both the umpire and player unions are against it, and MLB (being the tradition dinosaur that they are), may never do it. What a shame.

Never going to happen...

you'd be planning to extend games to 6 hours in the post season if this happened.

This sport will be no different then Cricket's one day match events. Which take up like 8 hours in a day, however they do institute a 3rd umpire who reviews close calls from replay booth.

In the video, one of the writers says "McClelland, who admitted he blew two calls tonight, kinda blamed it on instant replay as if there wasn't instant replay, no one would knew he blew the calls"

I don't know how he can blame his screw up on instant replay.

First of all, the replays will only restricted to some big plays that the people from the booth upstairs saw and make a call for the replay; it's not going to happen to every balls-and-strikes. Secondly, replays did not make football games that much longer, and besides baseball games don't have game clock anyway unlike football. Lastly, people never complain about managers making 5 or 6 pitching changes in the game, which take a long time by themselves; why should they complain about replay which will take maybe a few minutes at best for each call?

The umpires have too much power, and they are abusing it with their terrible officiating. We have the technology to minimize mistakes like what happened last night; why not use it?

Just when you thought the 2009 postseason umpiring couldn't get any worse, Tim McClelland goes ahead and makes what ends up as the worst call — or non-call — of all time.
Yes, you read that right. The worst call of all time. Not just this postseason. Not this entire season. Not this decade. Not this century. I challenge you to think of one that was worse.
At this point, not even Kanye West could interrupt to suggest something worse after McClelland left the entire baseball universe shaking its head at his work during the Yankees' 10-1 victory over the Angels (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=291020103) in Game 4 of the ALCS.

Why McClelland possibly decided that Cano was safe despite not touching the bag until after being tagged is beyond this galaxy's rules of logic and it sent Angel Stadium into a bloodthirsty frenzy. There are simply no words for the ruling, other to say that one of the five other umpires should've offered his assistance, McClelland shouldn't ump another game in this series and that it's time for Bud Selig to stop being stubborn and expand the use of instant replay in baseball past disputed home run calls.

Here's what McClelland had to say about the play (http://www.asapsports.com/show_interview.php?id=59897) after the game:"On the play with Cano and Posada, I thought Cano was on the base. I was waiting for two players to be on the base, and when there was never the situation where both of them were on the base at the same time. When he tagged Cano, I thought Cano was on the base, and when Jorge touched the base and continued and tagged Posada out, I thought Posada was out ...
"(The replay) showed that Cano was off the bag when he was tagged. I did not see that for whatever reason ... I'm just out there trying to do my job and do it the best I can."

IIRC, he hugged a woman that could have been considered groping.

I'd rather have him be a GM again before I see him getting all buddy-buddy with the likes of Mitch Williams.

That was the "official" word from ESPN. Although many employees said he was fired for disagreeing with the producers about something.

it does seem weird...this company has been around for so long in an industry (sports) that has a fair amount of scandal...Im honestly surprised that no one has looked to pull up the curtain there at ESPN

Phillips is a pig. I recall reading that he's described as "a guy who never met a skirt he wouldn't chase."

ESPN better fire him. Especially if they fired Harold Reynolds over hugging a woman.

ESPN better fire Steve Phillips.
