no matter how good the movie is, i'd only want figures based on the comic, not the film.

What about the Rorschach and Manhattan ones? Would you even be able to tell the difference?

Wouldn't they ultimately be based on both? :oldrazz: I know what you mean though. There are gonna be costume differences. I love both though, so no biggie. And my favorite character is pretty much the same, if not cooler looking now while still respecting his original look. So yay!

Maskless Rorschach is gonna have a hard time NOT being insanely awesome! I was hoping for a grunged up costume alternate though - you know, with the blood stain across the trenchcoat, shoulder strap thing unhinged, all that cool stuff that shows what he's been through. :woot:

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them making like a retro/classic series as well as the movie series! :woot: At least for the characters that are different enough, like Nite Owl II and Ozy.

I think it had something to do with Alan Moore, like they tried to release Watchmen figures on the book's 15 year anniversay, and he didn't allow it? I'm sure someone can elaborate...

Well, actually, it seems like they didn't release them out of...respect?

Legally, DC doesn’t need my approval to bring out the toys or anything like that. They own the book, and they have exercised that option in the past 15 years. So really, as far as I’m concerned, all this stuff is without my approval. I’m not at all interested in it, or in any way contributing to publicity for it, because it’s something for DC, not something for me.

I wouldn't have even dreamt of that perspective on it. I would see it as something to promote Watchmen in all it's glory, not necessarily DC or Alan, although obviously the money made would be going somewhere. But it's not about where the money goes to the fans who buy this stuff, it's about having awesome figures of their favorite comic characters! Wouldn't he want his work to be noticed and appreciated, and for fans to be able to show it through displaying their super cool merchandise?

Ah well, I digress.. perhaps it's better this way, cause these new figures are of the utmost quality. I dunno if the same would have been the case 8 years ago. Consider me thankful for what we've got. :woot:

Oh my god. They're making an action figure of maskless Walter Kovacs? In full Rorschach costume

That is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard.

Ever.

Even though that look is featured in a rather pivotal scene of the novel, of course.

That one is being released days after the movie is for a reason.

Here are the prototypes for the DC Direct figures from 2001.

The line only made it this far....

I think his chest glows--or something...

I gotta say that my only gripe about the reg movie figures is that I wish NECA was able to produce them. They could have done some very cool 18" scale stuff. Very Unfortunate.

Their 12" "V" figure was very impressive.

Wow, way to overreact. Even if Rorschach didn't appear exactly as such in the book in 2 of his most important comic books scenes ("Give me back my face"/"Do it!!!"), would it really be the worst idea you've ever heard? Or do you just like to drastically overreact to everything about this movie?

Ummmmmmm....are you COMPLETELY OUT OF YOUR MIND?!? K, speaking as an action figure fan, a movie fan a FAN of action figures based off movies and as well comic books....it is so unbelievably amazing that they are making as many characters as they can off this movie and their different incarnations.

I am ALLLLL for a maskless Rorschach his face WILL be shown in the movie so having an action figure off of it is a no brainer. Just like in Star Wars how they make every friggin' character...I so support any companies decision to make as many characters into figures off a film.

So yeah, I'm buyin' two of them :D

I cannot wait for these figures. I must have the Rorschach variant at the least. Wonder where I could find them? Now I wish they would do a variant of The Comedian with the gimp mask on.

Well, if you want to order them online, I emailed Big Bad Toy Store and they told me they would be carrying them soon. I went and checked yesterday after work, and they now offer all 3 of the variant figs!
