All right. I tried searching this and nothing came up, so if there is already a thread like this and I missed it, mods can delete this.
This thread has been created to discuss the music in the upcoming sequels. Talk about the styles you like to hear, themes, composers, etc.
I'll start things off by saying although I liked the music from the previous movies, I think a new theme might be in order. There was something that it lacked. I'm not really sure what it was. We need something a bit more(for lack of a better word) heroic.
Maybe something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99wpG0NAZxs
It just sounds better to me than the previous theme and I think it should go in that direction.
With that, let's begin the discussion.:spidey:

I actually liked the Elfman theme. I suppose since the new movies will be apparently set in the same continuity and all, that they'll keep some variation of the theme.

Personally, I think the 4th film will have alot of the themes from the first 3 films, with, obviously, new Villian theme added in. The Peter Parker theme is also a must have.

Although it will be hard to ever be better than the first. Just a cold hard fact of nature. I still remember chills setting in the theater with the graphics from SM1 showing, with the theme playing.... GREATNESS

Hahaha, well that's kinda obvious...Spider-Man 2 had the same music as the first one, and even though Spider-Man 3 had a new composer, they still kept the main components from the last two movies.
Obvious post, haha.
The whole main idea/main theme for the music is fairly solid, but everything added in was pretty lackluster for sp3

No argument. His Spidey theme is as great as his Batman theme.

The theme the OP posted is, to me, far better than Elfman's original theme.
Honestly, with that new music..those scenes haven't been that exhilarating since I first saw them.
Spider-man 3's cut and paste score was a disgusting attempt at originality. I don't blame the composer Raimi brought on however, since most of his music wasn't even used.

yeh I got a little sick of the music in the movies... the way you always hear the choir of mostly female voices going 'aauwww' everytime he swings on a friggin web. Trying to make it sound 'magical' and epic or something when we've already seen him swing plenty times. I hope in the next movie we can see him go down the street or take off without the sound of a room of people going 'auuwwWwWWw-ah-auuwww!!' THIS aint space oddeysey, this aint harry potter.

I recall it happening in the 2nd, my memories alittle foggy with the 1st. But Im pretty sure that in all of them they had the choir chime in everytime he swings on a web... even during the villain fights, theyd switch quickly back and forth between sinister music and the choir soon as spidey gets airbourne.

Elfman's music was serviceable but it wasn't great, and nowhere near his Batman theme. That damn choir alone annoyed the living hell out of me, at times...it has it's moments but overall it's bleh.
I'd really like to see John Powell get a crack at it. The Bourne Trilogy and X3 are two of my favorite scores. The man is a genius with creating themes and scoring both the intense action and the quite emotional moments. My vote is for him.

Kevin Manthei's score to the USM game is also worth listening to. Much more 'Spidey-ish', to me. I have a few tracks off it if anyone's interested.
It's not the best composition in the world, but the general direction is where I think the music in the next film(s) needs to go.

I completely disagree. What's wrong with there being epic music when he swings? It doesn't take away anything, it adds to the greatness.

My friend's 4 and 5 yr olds love the minimalistic rock song from the new cartoon. I think the source speaks for itself. I guess it's okay but I hope they don't go that route.
Aside from new music I'd love to see the whole series take a different route. No more poor, crying, whiney Peter with the ugly faces. And no more of the type of music that accompanied those type of scenes.

okay I just watched one of the movies not long ago and the choir wasnt quite as constant as I remembered. But it did always have this, epic Id say 'magical' music when hes swinging. I liked it at first but after a while I wanted something less theatrical. Something jazzy, kinda retro with a bit of style. I liked the downplayed swingscenes in older stories where he's just thinking to himself, or readin the paper... it wasnt always epic. Not to him, thats just how he gets around. In a book I gazed at in the newsagency I saw spidey walking across a wall and is offered some popcorn by a guy on his balcony.
Spidey replies with something like: is it buttered?
Guy: Yeh
Spidey: Real butter or that fake stuff?
Guy:its real
He takes some and lifts his mask to eat it as he walks away along side the building and the guy goes: I love this city.
Anyway, my origional point was... I hope the music in the next movie is a little more casual, less dramatic.

SPider-man 3 did lack the music of the first two. I wish elfman came back
Uh. It did -- a good amount of Young's score was either replaced with Elfman's score from the first two films, or re-recordings of Elfman's themes arranged to fit the film (or as Young put it, John Debney and Deborah Lurie rescored some scenes using Elfman's themes but writing in Young's style). The bit where Aunt May give Peter her engagement ring is overlayed with Elfman's rejected cue in S-M 2 (it's available on the score CD, "Aunt May Packs"), and a good portion of the battle climax had Elfman's score tracked in too.
And Young was strong-armed into using Elfman's themes -- the main theme, the Green Goblin theme and the "fate" theme was heard in Young's original score too. He wrote new themes for Aunt May, Mary Jane and other things that were replaced at the request of Sony music executives.
I wouldn't mind seeing Young coming back for a second go-round, though. I'd like to see him craft some new themes for Aunt May, Mary Jane and others -- as long as he kept Elfman's main theme.

Though Birth of Sandman was beautiful, that was about the only thing going for it. I felt the black suit could of used a stronger theme. But I just wished Elfman came back. He was one of the reasons why the first two film were so great.

is this a legit reason for why 3's score is unreleased?
Was searching the net [yes; STILL] and i found this as a reason as to why it's unreleased:
It's funny. The release of the score isn't due to Sony's refusal to release it. Chris won't release it as he would have to cut out all of Danny Elfman's music that he worked into the score and that's just something Chris artistically does not want to do. Case closed.

I don't know why Sony would force Young to cut out all references to the Elfman themes, as there probably wouldn't be enough music to fit on a CD. I know it would be money, as Sony would have to pay Elfman in addition to Young, but it doesn't make any sense.
I mean, John Ottman was allowed to use John Williams' themes for SR and he wasn't forced to cut out any music incorporating Williams' stuff for the CD release. Not to mention countless other composers have adapted Williams' Star Wars music for TV shows and such. If music companies are willing to shell out money to Williams, then surely they can do that for Elfman and Young (Elfman is probably a bit more cheaper than Williams).
Well if Young stays on for S-M 4 maybe Sony will release a CD with both scores from S-M 3 and S-M 4.

I know everybody is saying this and that it won't happen, but Elfman. His score is so beautifully woven into what Spider-Man is in my mind. He gets it all. How a visual impacts an audience, the grandeur and "wow" factor of seeing somebody actually do these incredible things, the madness of the goblin and the tragedy and honesty of Otto Octavious, and most importantly the soul of peter parker, his honesty, his kindness, and the soul of Peter Parker.
Listening to the score from the first Spider-Man movie is still one of the most wonderful experiences I've had with music.

I would prefer Elfman to come back, but knowing he wont, I would be happy with Christopher Young coming back, his Spidey 3 score grew on me over time, and I have actually come to like it a lot now, I would be okay with him.
I wouldn't mind Elfman returning of course...and anyone who was reminded of 'Batman' by Elfman's music for 'Spider-Man' is being a bit over-zealous.
His 'Spider-Man' material sounded NOTHING like his scores for the 'Batman' films.
Aside from Elfman and Chris Young...hmmm...Marco Beltrami and Michael Giacchino are two of my favorites.

The Spider-Man 3 music was a movie-breaker in several parts. The music over the second Peter/Harry fight felt like it was taken out of West Side Story or something.
Agreed, to an extent.
On the one hand, Chris Young's "Sandman Theme" sounded like an incredibly generic piece of villain music...literally it sounded like something you could play over cartoon footage of Boris and Natasha or something.
But then, out of nowhere, Chris hits you with the theme for "Black Suit (Symbiote) Spidey" which I absolutely LOVED...I want them to release the score just on the basis for that bit of music.

I think they need someone like Howard Shore to do this thing right. Blending the epic emotionality of his LOTR scores with something a little more edgy and off-beat like his stuff with David Cronenberg could lead to something really cool.
Another composer who could nail this thing is Michael Giacchino. But I think he should score everything...

well raimi wanted elfman to keep on temping tracks, then on one cue raimi wanted elfman refused to emulate one of chris young's cues.elfman finally said "YOU WANT CHRIS YOUNG? THEN GO GET CHRIS YOUNG!!". and raimi did. hence, the falling out, because of temp tracking and cue emulation, which as an unwanted bonus got us the no spider-man 3 score album.
ELFMAN: They wanted this one cue that was basically from Hellraiser and I
was like "I can't get any closer and I'm not going to imitate [Hellraiser
composer] Christopher Young. Go ******* hire Christopher Young." So they
hired Christopher Young to do a cue like Hellraiser and he couldn't get
close enough to Hellraiser so they ended up licensing the cue from

Just one other question: Did Elfman leave during the production of Spider-Man 3 or did he leave after Spider-Man 2? I read on IMDB that Elfman left because Raimi turned down some of his new scores for Spider-Man 2. Which explains why we got Christopher Young instead.
