Eh, yes and no. I try to play him pretty straight and serious, generally. That said, I never forget that this guy is a Mad Scientist and an Evil Kung Fu Grandmaster at the same time. There's an inherent element of humor to the character. So I try to play it kinda like Jeff Parker or Peter David would.

Lol. I create Hitlerbot I intend to be quickly dispensed with canon-fodder. It's mainly a plot-device to give the heroes clues as to the plot, and to bring the heroes together.

The heroes take a month to kill it.

I unleash my big climactic scheme to destablize NATO with an ugly war that would create bitterness between France, friends of France, and American and those countries friendly to America. Thereby creating a new Cold War. This is intended to require a massive efforts by the heroes to stop. A bloody, brutal conflict that tests their detective ability, their cunning, their power, and their spirit to the utmost.

It gets dispensed with in one post by off-panel actions from nameless NPC's.

Chen, like I said in the post, having the US suddenly declare war on an allied nation due to the actions of one nut would be absolutely ludicrous. And why wouldn't SHIELD do everything in their power to root out and put a stop to a plot like that? That sort of thing is exactly what they're there to prevent. The whole crux of the idea seemed to hinge on every single person on the good guys' side being absolutely incompetent at their jobs.

The problem is MC, you have very strict ideas in your mind that YOU want to see worked out in a particular way. This is a free-flowing, organic RPG where you roll with the punches and work with other people. I tried to do this with you with Ares, knowing he could wipe your robot off the face of the earth in minutes, I chose to have him caught up in a battle with grunts to give Cap a chance to shine. But rather than leaving it, you killed off your sargeant yourself after my first 'fight' post and even put in an IC post "taking all plot relevant information to the grave". Letting that fly, I continue to keep the powerhouse occupied but again, you throw a curve-ball and post that he's fighting imaginary goons, rather than leaving the situation to play out.

Two moves I think every RPer in here would consider douchey.

Then you go ahead and start a war with France in just a couple of posts which is the type of 'whole game' affecting circumstance that'd have to involve every RPer here. Things like that are usually built up over a season, building tension, creating story, giving people a chance to get involved. But instead, you leave specific OOC instructions as to how YOU want the game to go.

You completely butcher all nuance, definition and intrigue The Mandarin has a character just to throw in these big 'HE'S EVIL RAWR!' schemes. You brush it all off with a "Oh, for the Mandarin, it's a tuesday". You give no thought to the fact that everyone else is busy with other stories that they've worked for months and months to create, build and establish.

In short, you've rushed headlong into the gameworld, with little thought or consideration to what anyone else has done, is doing or wants to do. And now it's not going your way, your going to whine about it?!

You ever stop to think that if you had this feeling before that it may be a problem with you and not the multiple games you've taken part in?

*sigh* Alright, much of that is fair, and even the parts I disagree with I can see as being reasonable misunderstandings. I apologize. I especially apologize for the crack about him slaughtering the npc with important information. When I had first seen you post that you were tricking the robot into shooting at them, I had flashbacks to scenes where players killed every npc when they should have at least taken one prisoner, and I reacted with inappropriate snarkiness.

Character you would like to play: Peter Parker - The Amazing Spider-Man

Powers: Bitten by a radioactive spider, Parker was given the unique abilities of the arachnid through that transference. These abilities include being able to stick to any surface, superhuman strength, reflexes and agility, and a precognitive instinctual sense of danger right before it happens - dubbed by Parker as a "Spider-Sense". As an alternative means of transportation and attack, Peter also developed a pair of wrist devices capable of producing a homemade webbing, which he uses for a variety of uses - from swinging around New York on a whim to sticking bad guys right in their tracks.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. Aside from my namesake, Spider-Man is my favorite comic book character of all time. I've loved the character and his world just as strongly today as I did when I was four years old, and I'd never pass up the chance to play him in any game.

2. It's been awhile since I've stepped into the webs, and I've immensely missed playing the character. Never once did I drop him or let someone else take over because I got tired of writing him, and I intend to stick with him for as long as I can.

3. I feel like there are numerous story possibilities to play around with in this universe, specifically, because of the stink of "One More Day" being eradicated from continuity. Spidey's recent history has been a bit jumbled, to say the least, and I want to bring him back to a simpler, more classic time of his life, and play out the adventures of a Spider-Man that I grew up with.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: While I know I can bring in a deep understanding of the character and his supporting cast, I also think I can provide a good springboard for interaction by rushing him headlong into whatever can be thrown at him. I also don't mind saying that I'm a decent enough writer, at least from the standpoint of characterization.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: I always find this question to be a little bit dated, but in this case, I think it's more than applicable. I think I'd actually have to stop myself from posting too much, because I simply cannot see myself getting tired of playing the webhead. So yeah, don't worry about me. I'll be able to post whenever's necessary.

Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):

Black Cat laughs, as the webslinger frantically looks back and forth to make sure he isn't dreaming. "Well, I knew you'd be happy to see me, Spider, but I didn't necessarily expect speechlessness from you."

Without another word, Spider-Man shakes himself out of his momentary lapse of cognition only to point a webbed finger straight at his leather clad ex-girlfriend. What was she doing here? Why was she in the midst of running around town when a notable burglar was also spotted around this area? And why, oh why, were his tights beginning to shrink whenever he realized he couldn't stop looking at her noticably fit figure showing itself through that outfit?

"Where were you on the night of the 25th?!"

Felicia raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

Spider-Man grasped his head. "Sorry, sorry... force of habit. I've been watching alot of cop shows recently."

"Anything good?"

"Well, I bought the season disc set of The Wire, and I thought that was pretty-..."

The wall-crawler paused. "Hey, waitaminute! No, don't distract me! I'm very vulnerable right now, what with the fact that I'm about to accuse you of relapsing back into your old risque criminal ways. I thought we've went through this, Felicia!"

Black Cat placed a hand on Spider-Man's shoulder. "Look, I know what this looks like, Peter..."

Spider-Man breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank god. Then you're innocent."

"No. I was going to say 'it's exactly what it looks like', actually."

Breaking from her grip, Peter backed up. "You've got to be kidding m-... you can't say that after starting with 'I know what it looks like'! That goes against every code in the dramatic reveal! You say that and you're pretty much obligated to follow up with a claim of innocence."

Felicia slyly winked. "You should know better than to think of me as 'innocent'."

"Oh, no you don't. The sexy eye isn't going to work on me this time, Party Hardy. I'm peeved enough that you broke the dramatic moment code, but burglary is just crossing the line. I mean, you were doing so well until now... like the opposite of Winona Ryder. What happened?"

"There's not much to tell. A girl's got urges, and I decided to treat myself."

Spidey put his face in his palm. "I don't know what's worse. The fact that you said that like you were on a shopping spree at Macy's, or the fact that I instantly mistook it for innuendo whenever you said 'urges'."

Felicia leaned closer, almost purring as she inched towards his body. "Is that a fact?"

Peter grabbed her by the wrist. "Stop. I'm serious. You can't do this and expect me to just be okay with it. Not after all we've been through."

Black Cat sighed to herself, breaking off the tension. "Look, I didn't really intend for you to find me here. I'm sorry that you had to see this."

"Did you? Are you?"

Felicia turned around, eyes narrowed behind her mask. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Spider-Man crossed his arms. "C'mon, Cat. Give me a little credit. I know how you are, and I'm pretty sure I know how you think. Besides the fact that this is totally where you'd expect to find me, you're not so good of a burglar that you'd be able to sneak past me without getting noticed. No one is."

"Are you always this full of yourself?"

"Only around my exes."

Felicia turned her back on him. "Peter, I'd love to keep toying with you, but I really have to get back. This is something you just wouldn't understand."

"I think I understand plenty. And I'm not letting you leave until you've returned whatever it is you've stolen."

She paused. "Is that a threat?"

"No, it's a chance. The one chance you'll have for me to let this go. Bring the stuff back, and I'll let you walk free... again."

"And if I don't?"

"Cat..."

"No, really. What happens if I don't? Are you going to 'lock me up'?"

"I was thinking more along the lines of sending you to bed without supper, but that works, too."

Felicia smirked. "You're just playing with me."

"Actually, I'm not. I'm just making jokes because I don't want to have to take a stern tone with you. You've earned that chance."

"Yes, I have. And I've also earned a free pass on more than one occasion."

Spider-Man raised an eyebrow. "Uh, I wouldn't go that far."

"Then tell me I'm wrong. Tell me you'll actually bring me in if I don't take this stuff back."

"I'm telling you that right now."

"I know. But say it like you mean it."

Peter was silent. He wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean, but he didn't necessarily have the time to ponder it. Because before he could blink, Felicia ran for the opposite side of the rooftop and leaped into a somersault, freefalling into the night.

"HEY!"

Shooting out a webline, Spider-Man swung after her. But as the two costumed adults began their game of cat and mouse, there was a thought in the back of Peter's mind that was beginning to bug him.

Yes, we talked about it, we had a laugh at SpiderByte's oddball entrance. Good to know you're going to bring up private MSN conversations, I'll keep that in mind. Got a name now I can add to the list of people I have to be guarded and watch what I say in front of. Yeah, Byte, your bazooka-toting first post was made fun of on MSN for its randomness, sorry 'bout that.

But then I decided to play along with it, and I think that approach (combined with Byrd's more constructive feedback about toning down the 4th wall stuff) actually helped resolve things and get Byte more on the right track. The whole "Oh yeah, and watch yourself, get permission before you do anything else stupid" thing was a bit overboard and unnecessary at the time, I felt. Part of the fun of the game the way it used to be - even the way it was at the start of this season - was that we weren't overplanning and asking permission about everything. Op wrote quite an impassioned speech earlier in the OOC thread about the fun of improvising and rolling with punches, and making the game interactive and spontaneous. But I didn't bring it up or call you on it at the time because, yes, we'd all had a laugh at the original posts and I didn't want to be a hypocrite, and because I felt maybe I was misreading it and you were actually being constructive.

But with hostile posts like this last one, you're just being overtly rude. I know, you want Deadpool back and the silly n00b has him and you can do so much better, I get it. But this is simply reviving an issue that was a problem 5 years ago, and has popped up here and there ever since. Just because someone might not be as good a writer as you are, doesn't give you free license to treat them like dirt. Go ask Karem-Knight about how he enjoyed the OOC atmosphere back in 2004/2005. Or why don't we bring in Blacklight to see how welcoming he found us back during his first couple of years playing? It was okay for a bunch of players to get together and kill off Karem-Knight's character and refuse to give him any way of reviving him, pressuring the GM at the time to let their decision stand. Because KK wasn't a great writer, and people laughed at him. It was okay for players to just take characters from Blacklight. I mean, they could write the character better, so why not?

It's a double-standard. There's been a few periods in this game where I've went past the 2 week mark with no Loki posts. Did you come in OOC and tell me to s**t or get off the pot, and say if I wasn't going to post then stop wasting time and give someone else a chance? No? Well if you're not going to say it to me, don't say it to Byte either.

These games are dying a death. Recruitment threads get no responses, new posters are few and far between. Yet we do everything we can to make newcomers feel unwelcome, then slap out heads and go "GEE GOSH! WHY DON'T NEWBIES STICK AROUND!? I DON'T GET IT!" We've all made fun of MichaelChen and SpiderByte (and deservedly so a lot of the time, some of this stuff has been pretty dumb). But we're all new and dumb at one point, and we only get better by learning. And say what you want about them, but I see their names on this board and they're regularly reading the IC thread, and posting pretty frequently, which is more than can be said for some of the vets. That's why I'm not going to tell MichaelChen to drop his character because he offends my delicate sensibilities or because I'd rather someone better was playing The Mandarin. I sent Loki and Thor over to his house to do a scene with him. We need to encourage new players, we need all the posters we can get.

This started as a response to Gallagher, but I think it's something all of us should bear in mind - I'm guilty of it too. We can make fun of stupid stuff on MSN if we want - though I think we should be careful about who we even do that with - but here on OOC, where people take cues on how to treat individuals by how others treat them, we should try out utmost to be civil, constructive, and respectful of other players, no matter what their level of experience or writing ability. Otherwise, our little community is only going to get smaller.

The same point was also brought up recently by someone in the DC WoH OOC; Why play/pick up a character that you can't write/have no ideas for?

Yeah, we poke fun at stuff and at each other, but never with any genuine malice. Folks like Byte, Chen and other newbs are always welcome. Hell, I recently approved Sabretoonth in the All-Star game with a sub-par app, but gave him a list of pointers to bear in mind whilst posting. I tried to do similar (though in sterner fashion) with Chen here, last week. Yeah, the games are in dire need of fresh blood, and in turn, the new players need teaching and nurturing. But if a player is going to barrell in with no thought, care, consideration or knowledge of what every other player has (often) painstakingly created, then it can be expected that they'll be pulled up on it.

One bit of advice I would give, if you're having trouble, is try and read how different people around here write fight scenes and understand how back n' forth action makes it interesting. I'm not saying copy any sort of template, but just to get the general feel of how to effectively write one if that's where your trouble lies.

It's so dark in here. I can't see a thing, assuming that there's actually anything to see. I've been here before, both with and without Leonard's help. To regress deep inside oneself, where very few people have experienced such a journey, it seems to have almost become expected of me to do it occasionally.

I know from past experience that there are certain... things hidden in my subconscious that are always seeking a way out; a new crack of light shining on their faces that they've never had before. However, Len and I aren't interested in them this time. Today we're searching for an anomaly of the Rulk variety.

~Bruce? Can you hear me, Bruce?~

Samson's voice echoes in the distance around me. In the real world, I'm simply lying on the couch in the motel room, while he's sitting across from me and guiding me through the hypnosis.

"I hear you Len."

~Now, tell me what you see.~ His voice is getting louder as we establish a better connection between the conscious and unconscious that I'm in right now.

"It's just blackness around me as far as I can see. Even the cave is gone." I can almost picture Samson stroking his chin as he considers what this could possibly mean. "And wouldn't you know it? Even in my mind's eye, I'm still only dressed in torn purple pants."

Okay, in brief....

In Marvel RPG continuity, we're post-Disassembled/pre-Civil War. That means that, upon starting the game, Ragnarok had happened, but Thor had not yet been resurrected. As such, bkehdr has crafted his own version of Thor's resurrection story.

At the beginning of the season, Thor was restored to life and found himself back sharing his Donald Blake alter ego on Midgard. Loki was also resurrected, but he is trapped within the mortal body of a woman. We then began a lengthy storyline involving Chthon and the Ifrit and their plans to inherit the Earth as part of some ancient pact with Odin, but I won't get into that. The important thing is that, at the story's conclusion, Thor discovered a means for resurrecting Asgard, its population, and all the rest of the 9 Worlds.

See, Loki is something of an anomaly, in that Loki is sentient within his host. The rest of Asgard - Balder, Sif, Heimdall, the Warriors Three, etc - they are all also trapped within human hosts, but they have not awakened, and so the hosts live their regular lives unaware that gods live within them. Thor learned that, by collecting the 9 Norn Stones scattered around the world, he will have access to the power required to awaken the Aesir, seperate them from their hosts, and reform the 9 Worlds and the World Tree.

The only wrinkle is that Loki (currently acting as an Avenger having claimed to have changed her ways since her rebirth) has known about the Norn stones for much longer than Thor has, and has been steadily collecting them on her own, hoping to use them towards her own ends.

I've reviewed many Mandarin stories, and he's just not a subtle character, except maybe compared to Joker. He does things like sending blob-monsters to destroy the SHIELD helicarrier and invading Russia with giant robo-dragons and forcing Iron Man to duel him on international TV to prove what a bad-ass warrior he is. His last big scheme was to try to muder 6 billion people with a bio-tech weapon.

I can play a subtle character. I've played subtle characters lots of times. I've gotten praise for subtle, nuanced characters in games like Vampire: the Masquerade. The Mandarin of the comics isn't a subtle character. If you really want me to play him as subtle, I can do so. But it should be understood that such a character would be a drastic departure from the books, a version created for this thread that bares only the vaguest resemblance to comicbook Mandarin.

It's not really the flair or subtlety you play the character with, it's meshing with the story. We have really kinda of a loose, flowing story style here, but there is also a good bit of continuity and flow. I'm not saying its the characterization, you really have a knack for this, but a lot of stuff just seems to come from way out of left field and doesn't mesh well, or has little explination behind it. I don't know of that makes sense and I'm sure others can explain it better than I. I don't think anyone is out to smear you (cuz you's know it if they were. Believe me, its ugly), just kind of work you into the flow.

LIke the nano-tech mind control all of a sudden. It just doesn't fit with the story and it puts Loki and Thor in a tough place without character consent. It would be like having Hawkeye suddenly producing a nuclear arrow to launch at Kang while having an argument with Doctor Doom because Doom insulted the color purple and Kang made Hawkeye mad once. To just all of a sudden throw this mind control at Thor and Loki in the middle of their story to aimlessly seek out Iron Man with little to no build up hurts the story and the other characters, and makes no sense. The Mandarin is wandering around aimlessly with his hand in about half a dozen other unexplained stories, with the expectation that every other player just instantly play along and change their stoories to accomodate these.

The nanotech mind-control isn't "all of a sudden" at all. I started talking about that months ago, even connected it with MU continuity via Contest of Champions II. It's the exact opposite of "all of a sudden", it's the big thing I started working towards from day one. Everything else I did was just to get the dominos in place to mass-produce the nanotech, something I hinted at constantly in my posts. I hinted about building towards this in both IC posts, and in OOC posts here where I summarized my actions to keep people from falling behind. Months of this.

I went about this very much the way a Mandarin story happens in the comics. The Mandarin starts building towards something big. He does horrific things like unleashing a blob-monster to destroy the SHIELD hellicarier. It's horrific, causing many painful deaths, but at the same time it's just a minor part of Mandarin's plan, a typical monday morning bit of work to get certain chess pieces in position. It seems random, but at the same time there are clues to his big plan left behind.

This goes on, the Mandarin doing things that seem randomly horrific, but actually are part of him setting the chess pieces where he wants them. The heroes get little victories, and little clues, but the seemingly random horrors continue as the Mandarin gets everything in place.

Then he finally has whatever he wanted, which could be mass Extremis virus, or all the parts to complete a giant robo-dragon, or the special jewels to make a series of orbiting satelites to blast the entire world with hate-rays. And he unleashes it, whatever that is, the big thing that all these seemingly random horrors was really just a set-up to.

There was zero, absolutely zero "all of a sudden" about the nanotech. Nor was there anything "aimless" about what he was doing. It was all done in the same semi-mystery style that most Mandarin stories use, where horrific things are done that seem superficially random, but all are actually done towards a goal, and little clues are left to that goal at each horrific event.

But at the same time, I get it: you want to move along the Norn story along, and my job here is to help move the Norn story along. I have altered my post accordingly. What more can I do?

I don't know exactly what your post was about, MichaelChen, as in my timezone all these developments happened overnight, and were resolved by the time I got out of bed today. And the fact that you willingly changed your post means you're all good in my book.

But just to explain a bit more why I think there was unhappiness with your post, I don't think it was simply a matter of bullying or demanding you "change your character" to fit our image of how you should play him. Your portrayal of the character of The Mandarin is good, that's why I wanted to work with you here in the first place. It's not that in principle I utterly reject to play along with any of your story ideas. But I hope you understand, in OOC we have people saying "When's the season gonna end?", and it's essentially our Norn story holding things up now, creating a need to wrap thins up quickly and efficiently, while still hitting all the necessary beats.

I saw this scene with the Mandarin as a "You scratch my back, I scratch yours" kinda thing. It helps advance our plot, but with the whole "I owe you a favor" thing it gives you a subplot to potentially revisit next season, and we all benefit from getting to work with each other. I could have made it that Thor and Loki needed to visit some NPC villain to help them access this Norn, but I specifically made it the Mandarin so we could get a chance to work with you and you'd get more chance to RP with other players. But mind-controlling us and sending us off on a lengthy side mission would have seriously hurt what we're currently trying to do with this storyline - IE finishing it.

I was aware of the nanotech, and though when Dr. Doom recently used nanotech to attack The Cabal, it buzzed harmlessly past Loki, unable to recognize him as human, I didn't just no-sell your idea and say it didn't work on Loki. I am willing to play along with your concept, and an idea I had stemming from it came to me that I was going to PM you about when the time came. Just the timing of pulling the trigger on it at this particular moment would have hurt our story. So thanks for changing.

I like Bendis' ideas. His execution (witty banter aside) is terrible. Honestly if I had my way Bendis would be that guy they keep at the end of the hall over at Marvel. He'd give them broad story ideas to run with and leave the actual writing to actual writers who, hopefully, won't be prone to vast unexplained power fluctuations in their characters and execution that just feels slapped together.

Seriously aside from that first New Avengers Annual I've never read any Bendis 'action' that doesnt amount to someone screaming "AAAARGH!!" while something that I just can't make out goes on on panel. Man even Bendis' Daredevil work is great idea, crappy exectution.

Siege doesn't count because the action seens are drawn by Coipel so they are bad ass.....but Bendis' witty banter has no place in an epic battle like that, so Bendis ruins it again.

If that wasn't bad enough the man, despite his own words to the contrary, has no respect for Marvel's established canon. Its just a toy to him. A toy he's being paid to break.

Loeb's a different story. Man has some serious talent in this genre.

But he was replaced by a Skrull at some point in the recent past. Its the only explanation for his sudden uber suckitude.

The first storyarc was a lot of fun to read, but you could still feel the beginnings of his grasp on decent comic storytelling and consistent characterization slipping. And "Loeb's" writing only took a sharp nosedive from there on out.

Two men sat alone in the small room. A large mirrored wall on the left of the room, provided a viewing space for a group of scientists to make their notes on the goings on. Within the grey box-room sat a man wearing a black uniform. Across the small table sat a dark haired man in a white vest and black jeans. He had the butt of a cigar in his mouth and casually blew smoke through gritted teeth after each puff.

The officer spoke up first, rummaging idly at a thick file on the table in front of him. “Mr Howlett, as you are aware, this organization has selected you for our programme for a very specific reason...”

“Because I’m a freak”, he grunted matter-of-factly.

The officer pursed his lips, cautious as to his manner around the other man.“We prefer the term ‘mutant’. But yes, you were selected for your mutant healing ability as well as your training and talent as a soldier. Our programme desires the best of the best and in your field, you are one of the best”.

“I’m THE best”.

“Indeed. Should you wish to sign up to our programme, you will be given training and preparation, as well as a position in our most elite black ops force. You will also be paid a significant sum for your time and co-operation”.

Logan scratched his face idly, considering the proposal. “What exactly is this ‘programme’ and what are you and your buddies standing behind that mirror over there planning to do to me?”

The officer flicked his gaze toward the mirror and back towards Logan. “I... uh… We plan to have you undergo a series of physically enhancing tests. Your body will be tested to the limit as we attempt to ‘enhance’ your already considerable talents”.

“Keep talkin'…” Logan leaned back in his seat and stretched his legs out, crossing them and folding his arms on his chest.“Look. You can be straight with me and we’ll be on the level, or you can keep tryin' to leadme down the long path and I can rip your arms off. Choice is yours, bub”.

The officer swallowed hard, his gaze flicking toward the mirror repeatedly. “Well, you will be partaking in a variety of experiments by the very best medical minds available. We will enhance your powers, give you better toold for job and make you damn near indestructible”.

Logan’s expression remained flat as he became lost in thought. After a few moments of silence and a whole load of erratic glances by the young officer, he smiled. He removed his cigar from between his teeth and died it out on the desk. Leaning forward, he caused the young man to tense “And if I say no?”

“Well Logan, you will be free to go about your life as you see fit. However, there is one more outstanding matter that we must address…”

"Heh" he snorted, “And what might that be?”

“Your father. He died around the same time you disappeared. We’ve been investigating his death for a long time. The killer was never found. But we know pretty much everything. The file is right here. Should you choose not to accept our offer, then I’m afraid this file might become a problem for all of us. However, should you undertake our programme, I’m sure you’ll find that paperwork… well, it can have a habit of disappearing”.

Creed scowled and let out a low throaty growl. “I knew you bastards had somethin’ up your sleeve the second you picked me up in that hell hole. Well bub, looks like I don’t have much of a choice then do I?”

The officer stood and smiled, moving to the door with the file under his arm. “We all have choices Mr Howlett. It’s what we do with them that counts. Welcome to the Weapon X program Logan".

Right, let's think. A big part of the beginning of the season was the superhero bounty. A public bounty was placed on the heads of all the major superheroes - the higher profile the hero, the higher the fee. Everyone - from regular villains of the public to major league supervillains - was getting in on it, trying to claim the bountys. It was eventually revealed that Red Skull was behind it.

The Avengers reformed, with the current roster being Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Loki, Hawkeye and Mockingbird, I believe.

After a near brush with death, Steve Rogers decided to go on some soul searching, giving up the mantle of Captain America and handing it over to Bucky Barnes, who has taken Rogers' place on The Avengers.

Bkhedr has masterminded probably the biggest storyline of the season, bringing back Thor and Loki (trapped in the body of a mortal woman) from the dead, and tying them into an ancient prophecy regarding Chthon returning to claim Earth after the age of the Aesir had come to an end. Chthon sent his servants - the Ifrit - to Earth, and there was something of a battle of wills between the heroes and the Ifrit in an attempt to demonstrate to the Living Tribunal that mankind still deserved to live on. Eventually, Chthon emerged on Earth, but was vanquished by the Avengers, thanks largely to the sacrifice of Thunderstrike.

This transitioned into the current storyline going on with us, with The Avengers searching for the 9 Norn Stones, in an attempt to restore Asgard and the 9 Worlds. Loki has just revealed to Thor that he has been decieving him once again, having been collecting the Norns all along behind Thor's back, and betraying him to acquire all the stones Thor had gathered. Loki now only has one more stone to get, before he uses them for his own mysterious ends.

The Mandarin has been causing lots of high profile trouble recently, between sending a giant robot with the brain of Adolf Hitler to attack New York and nearly triggering a war with France.

Norman Osborn has shed his Green Goblin persona and picked up a new alter ego: The Iron Patriot. He has taken on the guise of a government-sponsored superhero in an effort to win over the American public, recently battling and apprehending Dr. Doom.

Sabretooth has steadily risen up amongst the ranks of New York's criminal underworld, engaging in a brutal turf war with The Kingpin where I believe he eventually emerged as victor.

There is plenty of other stuff I know I'm not covering, but hopefully that's a start on getting you to grips with the happenings of the season.

A Long Time Ago



"GET DOWN!"

Steves eyes widened as the soldier stood frozen in the middle of the battlefield. The air was heavy with smoke and the sound of mortar fire. Bullets whizzed through air, punching into the earth around him. Steve felt his feet moving, the weight of the shield as it bounced with his motion. He reached out, grabbed the young soldier and rolled with him as the ground where they had been exploded into fire and dirt and smoke.

They landed behind a low wall and Steve grabbed the man by the shoulders. "What's your name, son?"

The young man was visibly shaking, tears in his eyes. "K-Kowalski, sir".

"Have you got family back home, Kowalski?"

"Yes Sir. I'm scared Sir, I just want to go home".

Another mortar exploded, just feet away. Dirt showered the pair as Steve hefted his shield. "So do I, Private. But if we go home now and leave the Fuhrer and his evil unchecked, then how long will it be before that home is under his boot? You're standing for your loved ones and you're defying those who would destroy them. So pick up your weapon! find that resolve and lets show these worthless dogs that they picked the wrong damn fight!"

Kowalski nodded, his trembling lip replaced by a look of grim determination as the star spangled hero before him rose to his feet in defiance.

The sun was setting low over the horizon. Steve tucked at the leather jacket he was wearing, pulling the collar tighter against the cool breeze. With hands stuffed into pockets he stared down at the gravestone. It was set under a spreading willow, overlooking the small town

"Friend of yours?"

Steve turned and regarded the newcomer. A cigar was bitten through gritted teeth, and the eye-patch made him unmistakeable. "Yeah... No. I don't know. He was a good kid, we fought together for a while. Long time ago".

Nick Fury stepped up to stand at Steves shoulder. "Yeah. Too many of 'em... good kids".

Both men stood in silence for a few minutes, nothing but the faint hum of the breeze echoed through the graveyard. Ghosts of the past accompanying each mans sombre thoughts.

"Why're you here, Nick?"

"Heard you'd retired the shield".

Steve nodded, mostly to himself. "Something like that".

"...and the new Cap?"

"He'll be great. I believe in him".

"It's a good enough endorsement, I guess".

"You still haven't answered my question".

Fury smiled to himself and took a long lungful from his cigar. "There's a storm coming, Steve. I need your help".

"You've got the wrong man. You said it yourself, I'm 'retired' now".

Fury grinned and patted him on the shoulder. "I don't need Captain America, pal. I need Steve Rogers".

Hey, sorry I've not been around this past week. Just caught up on the game there - MichaelChen, kudos on the Mandarin's death scene. It's not common for an RPG post to totally surprise me, but that one pulled it off.

Looking forward to this Thor/Loki confrontation, bkhedr. It's been a season in the works! The end of the season is nigh, folks.

It was a scene I've had in my head for a while now. The Mandarin is all about macho arrogance, and Stark is all about being clever and practical, so it seemed like the perfect way to pit those personalities against each other.

So, I've been trying to get things ready for next season's OOC thread, and I thought about a change up in our banner. I know the current one is a classic, but the idea I had would incorporate the old one too.

Maybe have the banner photoshopped on to this rather cool spread by Djurdjevic? You know, something like that.

So, with the Avengers storyline about to wrap up, how much time does everyone think we need before we wrap this bad boy up? First of June is next Tuesday. Would a week be a good enough time for everyone to wrap up their final posts? I'll have one more post with IM after the Avengers stuff is wrapped up and one DD post after the stuff with Sabretooth, so a week is very feasible to me.

I wouldn't mind us ending the season with a "montage" like Soze did to end the season in OU and DC. Pretty much, everyone posts a little snippet of their character at the end of the season with maybe slight foreshadowing of next season and Soze compiles into one big montage post.

I just get a kick out of being a bit of a dick. Rhyme unintentional.

That, and the fact that being a bad guy pays through the nose. All the way up the nose in fact, and into the brain. Actually I think a quater got stuck up there once and made me the guy I am.

The New York train system. It's like... well you saw Spider-man 2 right? You're reading this, of course you saw Spider-man 2. Well it's like exactly that. I don't know why people even take public transport anymore, the amount of damage caused any time Bruce Banner wets his pants, there's such a high risk of one of these carriges being your huge, "Cribs"-style coffin.

"Yeah well I got 2 kids and 2 wives buddy, so let's stop gloatin'!"

These people will be glad to know that this train won't be their coffin. I'd imagine once I blow this thing sky high their coffin will be an office window, or the street floor-- Wait, did that guy say he had 2 wives!?
