Ahem....
First, I think I need to clarify something here. The "All-Star" loose continuity approach Electro UK and I were suggesting is a little bit different from Peter Parker's "defining era" idea, which seems to be stirring up so much controversy. I just thought I'd state that, since the fact neither takes the "continuity cut-off point" approach seems to be leading to the two being lumped together.
With what Electro UK and I were suggesting, there's no turning back the clock. No "Gwen Stacy is still alive" fantasy situations. In terms of continuity, we'd be right up to date. Generally speaking, everything that has happened in the Marvel Universe will have happened in our RPG continuity. The only thing we were proposing is that we allow writers the freedom to do their own thing with their characters by establishing a distance from said continuity.
For example, in my Magneto application, I do make reference to the fact that Magneto has recently dealt with having to lose his powers, and his frequent resurrections/clones/etc. But that was in the past, now it's a fresh start. I'm acknowledging that continuity, without being beholden to it. Similarly, I was considering picking up Kingpin. My jump-on point would be Kingpin returning to America after a lengthy exile in Japan, without getting tangled up in the One More Day fustercluck that preceded said exile in the comics. Or if someone wanted to play as Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD, they could have the freedom to do so. Simply acknowledge that the position was previously held by Tony Stark, at one point. Either that, or take one post to explain how Fury is reinstated as director. Similarly, if someone picks up Osborn, they have the freedom to either play him as a government-darling head of HAMMER, or take one post to explain his fall from grace and return to the Green Goblin alter ego.
Here is the analogy I have used in explaining this approach. Imagine, if you will, that Marvel Comics stopped publishing for a year. Everything shuts down, this never-ending series of enjoined BIG EVENTS is cut off. Then, after a year, Marvel returns, with all its titles getting a new #1. The stuff that happened before still happened, but it's been set aside. With these new #1s, the writers are re-introducing us to the respective heroes and villains, getting back to basics, and starting with a clean slate.

There's no point starting up an IC thread when we're all still bickering about our continuity. And when the "let's just start playing and not get worried about continuity" proposal of last night has been met with such derision.

I dunno about anyone else but I just wanna play. I completely understand Keyer and UK's idea and I think it's the best way to go, and it's not that confusing at all. All this arguing is just taking all the fun outta the game before it begins, and if something doesn't happen soon, I'm afraid I just may have to bow out. This is supposed to be a game to come here and have fun and write some fun stories. It's not life or death of anything to get all up in arms about. As far as I'm concerned, UK is the boss around here now, and what he says goes.

holy hell. I know it's not much but I'm going to throw my two cents into this in hopes of stopping this debate and getting the ball rolling. UK you alone have the final say at where this reboot is gonna start, yeah everyone can throw in their thoughts but in the end your say is the final word on the subject. I suggest getting your AGMs over on msn or something and discuss a valid solution there. When your settled on a point announce it here, if some players don't like it there's nothing keeping them here.
Alright I'm done now.

Of course whatever UK decides upon is how this will be played. But so far, from what I can see, the number of people against his idea is either equal to or greater than the number of people for it. There are people who would decide they don't want to play this game if there's no cut-off point, while I haven't seen a single person say they wouldn't play if there IS one.
Again, whatever UK says, it's his game and it's up to him. I'm just saying, the desired outcome of the reboot was to have more people join up, and having no cut-off point seems to split players into, at best, 50/50.
Keyser's post has made more sense to me than any of the other arguments I've read that support this idea. It's not that I don't get it, because I do. I just, like the others, don't agree with it. It just seems cheap to me to go "Spider-Man made a deal with Mephisto and lost MJ but -actual explanation omitted- so now they're back together again and everything is like it was."
I know I'm being stubborn as **** about this, but it's just that I've long wanted to join this game but never did because of reasons mentioned often before. And from what I can see, the players you're trying to hook in, the ones who didn't want to join the earlier version of this RPG, aren't going to join this one either.

Well I think we either incorporate all of Marvel's history, or we go the other extreme of boiling down to the broad strokes that Peter Parker suggests. I would say without a doubt that the wishy-washy middle ground of "Let's be engaged with the comics, but not really, so let's go back to the time I personally last liked Marvel a couple of years ago...what, it's 3 years for you? It's 2 for me, and 5 years for him... wait, what?" is going to cut it.
Earlier you cited DC as always working fine with a "continuity cut-off". But what you neglect to mention is that, at the time we started the RPG, we were RIGHT up to date. I actually think the game began before Rebirth even finished, and then bnk kinda worked in the Rebirth conclusion to his portrayal of Hal Jordan on the fly. THAT'S how up-to-date the game was. If we follow what you're proposing, it would have been like the DC RPG starting in 2004, but with 2001 continuity.
What we want is flexibility. The model I suggested above is a general structure that fits the purposes of our game. Of course there's certain stuff which we should just outright ignore, like the character rape Spider-Man's gone through. I'm all up for just pretending that never happened, since Marvel Comics will surely be doing the same thing in a couple of years. And sure, I'm fine with small alterations to a character's recent history, like bkehdr incorporating his highly-regarded previous RPG work on Thor into the character's official history. There should be no confusion, provided that bkehdr explains Thor's altered continuity clearly in his introductory post.
And this is my problem with the perspective of you and the others on your side. By saying everything needs to be regimented and bolted down to a precise point, and saying "OH NOES IF WE GIVE PEOPLE FREEDOM EVERYTHING WILL TURN INTO A MESS!", you're basically saying you have zero faith in the talent of your fellow writers when it comes to telling a unified, coherent story.

I was aware of this, even though I didn't join DC when it first started up and running. But the thing is, as everything has made note on both sides, no one loves the current Marvel Universe. That is why some of us are saying to have a cut off point earlier than the current comics.
Keyser, what is your thoughts against going pre-Civil War? What is so hard for new and old players? Anyone who picks up a character, without little knowledge, can access wikipedia. And while wikipedia isn't a "respectable" source...we're talking about comics here and not quantum analysis; wiki suffices as a source. And every character in the MU has their history laid out labeled by certain timelines or big arcs like Civil War. Obviously, if I wanted to know what was in cannon for Iron Man in this RPG and I wasn't 100% sure, if I check out wiki about everything prior to the Civil War bit they have separated I know what is in cannon for Iron Man.
The argument isn't about, to me at least, what people do and don't know...it's what they do and don't like. And next to NO ONE loves the current MU. People don't want to draw from the current mythos, only to basically retcon it in a post. What's the point in that?
SenseiofCheese
01-04-2009, 01:04 PM
Good points, Keys.
For starters, when DC RPG started out was before my time, so I didn't really know it had been alongside current comic continuity at that point. Should've done some research before talking :woot:
Your point on flexibility has me somewhat convinced. We seem to be on opposite extremes, with one side wanting things regulated and others wanting freedom in their writing. But, like you mentioned with ignoring the character rape Spidey has gone through, can we not at LEAST hammer out just exactly what is to be ignored and what is not?
Because just going "Reboot, GO!" and hoping for the best might work out for a while, but at some point there are going to be massive arguments over the details, when said details become important to someone's writing.
--
Edit: Going back and reading some prior posts, our arguments aren't that different. You talk about how people can just incorporate their own history, like bkhedr, in their first post, while I mentioned if someone wanted Eddie Brock Venom they could just mention in their first post how the symbiote left Gargan. I don't mean to be saying things should be set in stone and never deviated from. There is a certain fluidity needed to make the game fun. I'm just thinking of down the road, once the game gets going, and new people come aboard, when the confusion about what is and what isn't could cause some rifts and arguments.

That part, Keyser, was when PP made his idea and UK seemed to support it. It looked like that was the direction UK wanted to go for the RPG. And THAT idea would be a mess. What you suggested about current cannon, is pretty new in this 12 page discussion. Just saying.

There seems to be 4 ideas running around, with 2 of them being similar (you'll see what I mean):
1) Pick the glory days of your characters and go from there
2) Pre-Civil War continuity
3) Post-Civil War continuity w/changes
4) Current continuity w/changes
Now, 2 and 3 are similar cause they both revolve around CW being the focal point in some shape or form. Why don't we just make a poll and vote? Yes, UK makes the last word about this...but the vote will help him see what people want. Just cause he is the head GM, doesn't mean he wants to piss off everyone. Everyone here understands compromise.

It's hardly new. It's what I've been suggesting for quite a while now, pretty much from my first post in the topic. And I know from discussion with Electro UK that it is also his stance. He has, however, agreed with Peter Parker when he's raised valid points, which is were the confusion about our stances may be coming from.
As for your other response... I felt that, as someone who hasn't read Marvel in years, I was being most accomodating to the people who ARE Marvel readers by suggesting an up-to-date continuity. But also, if I were to try and get back into Marvel to aid in my participation in the game, I'd rather be able to just go down to my local comic store and jump into the latest/recent issues of heroes. Rather than having to mentally compile a "do's and don'ts" list of TPBs that aren't kosher, and thinking "Oh, better not read Brubaker's acclaimed work on Daredevil and Captain America, or Matt Fraction's Iron Man, as that's post-Civil War and therefore useless."
I could go into it more, but I'm not a mod, it's not my decision. And once again I've found myself getting wrapped up in OOC bickering when I've actually entered the thread intending to post up an app.

If you say we're starting in the present, everything has happened, and we're moving forward from that, that's a clear line. Right, I am withdrawing my application for Magneto. I was never fully comfortable with playing the character, largely because I HATE X-Men's crazy continuity. And with the current continuity controversy, I'd rather not pick someone who's in some crazy transitional phase where I don't know what the hell I'll be doing with them depending where the cut-off point comes.
Really, I've thrown a bunch of characters around in my head, trying to find a niche in the game, but none feel right. And I realised, I'm just delaying the inevitable. There is only one Marvel character I've played in these RPGs with any long-term success, one guy who I know I can be comfortable playing. So, here it goes:
Screen Name: Keyser Soze
Character you would like to play: Bullseye
Powers:
While Bullseye has no superhuman powers, he has been gifted with perfect aim, and the ability to turn any object into a lethal weapon. From playing cards to peanuts, if you put it in Bullseye’s hands, he can find a way to kill you with it. He is an Olympic-level athlete in peak physical condition, who has mastered various martial arts. His Adamantium-laced spine heightens his endurance, making him less vulnerable to bodily injry.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. I have a long history with the character. I first played him in 2004, making my debut on the first page of the first season of the Marvel RPG, and playing him through 6 seasons of the game.
2. Bullseye is a great villain, which the RPG could always use more of.
3. His history and continuity isn’t quite as screwy as other characters I was considering.
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG:
Me am can bring turtles. Me has ninja pies.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:
Once every 13 days and 23 and a half hours.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
Bullseye loved baseball. He always had. When he was a kid, he had dreamed about being a world-famous baseball player, and he could have done it too. He was better than any of the so-called pros. He had a natural, God-given talent, a perfect aim. But as he got older, baseball began to get dull, and he discovered other, far more entertaining uses for his gift.
And he did manage to get famous anyway. His face had been in the paper a few times over the years. As a matter of fact, his face had been in the Daily Bugle recently, accompanied by a cheerful little article claiming that he had escaped custody, and that no civilian should attempt to approach him.
Of course, now he was in close proximity of thousands of people, and they were completely oblivious.. He didn't have his costume on, and the bullseye he had carved into his forehead was hidden by an NY cap, so to all the Yankee fans, he was just your average baseball-loving spectator. And to him, they were cattle, just waiting for the nail-gun to burst through the side of their heads and end their meaningless little lives.
It wasn't that Bullseye had no value for human life. Oh no, far from it. He knew that every extra day he managed to survive was a miracle. After all, he had lived for quite some time with a brain tumor, a ticking time bomb in his skull. He could very well have lived to be 100, but on the other hand, he could have dropped dead with a fatal seizure at any second. The tumor was out now, but that experience taught him to live for the moment, live life to the full, and do what makes you happy. It just so happened that murder made him happy.
Bullseye absently twirled one of two baseballs he'd bought in the gift shop. He loved the texture of the ball, the sensation of the stitching caressing his fingers. It brought back waves of nostalgia. The first weapon he'd ever used to kill someone was a baseball. Baseballs would always have a special place in his heart. And now that he was here, at Yankee Stadium, he was going to have a little fun, Bullseye style.
Suddenly, the crowd erupted in a huge cheer. Andy Lime, the Yankee's new star player, had just hit a home run. The crowd rose to their feet, and Bullseye stood up with them. His eyes scanned the rows in front for a target. His twitching eyes settled on two people about three rows down. A father high-fiving his son, a kid that was maybe about 7 or 8. They'd do just fine. The crowd was still jumping up and down in celebration, and nobody noticed Bullseye swinging the baseball out of his hand. And no one heard the sickening crunch as the ball connected with bone.
"Bullseye.”
The boy looked up at his father with an expression of childish joy, but the smile faded when he noticed that his father was staring vacantly ahead. Suddenly, his dad collapsed forward, dead, a dent in the back of his skull. Bullseye laughed as a little Mexican wave of horror began to spread, the crowd gradually beginning to notiice what had happened. He briefly considered taking the boy out as well, but one person was enough of a distraction. He could care less about the kid's welfare – in Bullseye’s experience, fathers sucked anyways - but he didn't want to waste his second baseball. He had a different target in mind.
While everyone was distracted with the dead father, Bullseye tossed the second baseball as hard as he could. It went right over the heads of the crowds, and right into the park. Andy Lime was being carried on his teammates shoulders. They kept on carrying him a few seconds after the baseball had connected with his windpipe, oblivious of the fact that he had been killed. By the time they did notice, Bullseye was long gone.
Outside the stadium, Bullseye closed his eyes and looked up to the sky, a sneering smile crawling across his lips as he heard the rising choris of screams coming from the stadium. Lime had been his target, the one his employer had paid him a healthy sum of money to eliminate. But he had managed to mix business with pleasure, and Bullseye felt that any satisfying career had to allow you to do that from time to time.
And Bullseye did get great job satisfaction. If you were as good as he was, being an assassin was a highly lucrative occupation. And Bullseye put the money to good use. Just recently he'd splashed out on some reconstructive dental surgery, for example. His teeth had always been terrible, and that was before that scumbag Daredevil (and he was gonna get his some day) had made a regular habit of knocking them out. But now he had a million dollar smile to rival Tom Cruise. So maybe when he killed a mark, they could take some measure of comfort in the fact that their death was contributing to their killer's welfare.
And speaking of money, it was about time to see about getting the rest of his payment. Bullseye took out his mobile and called the number of today’s client. It didn’t matter who had paid him to kill Lime. Some sleazy gangster, who gives a rat’s ass? The tedious logistics of it all was little more than background noise. The art, the craft of murder in new and imaginative ways, killing people in ways nobody else could… that’s what made him get out of bed in the morning.
"It's done." was all he said, before promptly hanging up.

Blacklight

Huzzah! Pre-CW it is. Okay, I recind my Quicksilver application, and instead...
Screen Name: Blacklight
Character you would like to play: The Green Goblin
Powers: Due to injecting the experimental "Goblin Serum" into his very own bloodstream, Norman Osborn has increased strength, stamina, durability, agility, and heals at an accelerated rate, but at a dire cost: his sanity. He's a psychopath, and a master criminal. His primary weapons include his Goblin Glider, Pumpkin Bombs and a variety of other Goblin themed armaments.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. Green Goblin is one of those Villain's Villains. He's the type of bad guy that even some of the other bad guys fear, so who wouldn't want to play a character like that?
2. I want to be the Goliath to Bryd's David.
3. I want to make sure that Norman DOESN'T end up controlling almost the entire government, starts his own Dark Illumnati, and creates his own Dark Avengers from his various New Thunderbolts teammates...
Yeah... I know. Joey Q and his CRAZY ideas...:csad:
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: I want to bring a good villain that'll hopefully compete with MB's Doom and Keyser's Magneto. Also, I want to bring some havoc and chaos, since that's GG's thing.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: as many as possible.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
Madness. Sometimes, it can be a beautiful thing...
Ain't that the truth...
Oh, yes. It is true. I mean, look at all the things you can accomplish when your free of inhibitions. Free to do whatever you please...
Not to mention the all the fun you have doing it all...
Anyways, back to the point. I tried staying away from it all. The life of villainy, filled with destruction and chaos. But as you all know, people never change. So here I am...
Admit it, Norman. You missed this just as much as I did...
You know something? I kinda did...
"HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!"
BOOM!
After tossing a few pumpkin bombs here and there, the executives around the table in his former boardroom started cowering in a corner. They were scared. He could smell it...
The glider to which the Goblin was perched on slowly descended upon them, and he simply picked one of them up by their collar and raised him up to his level.
"W-why are you doing this?"
The man asked Osborn this question, and after hearing it, he simply laughed in his face.
"You know what I love about being criminally insane? Go ahead. Ask me..."
"W-w-why?"
"I don't need a reason why. HAHAHAAA!!!"
Then dropping the man to the floor, the Goblin unloaded his whole satchel of explosives upon them before exiting through the window. The whole room exploded into an inferno, and Norman only cackled. The first phase of his plan was complete: Regain control of his company. For Norman knew he was going to require it if he had any hope of funding his newest diabolical scheme. Because the Green Goblin was back, and he was out for blood...
A ceratin spider's blood, to be exact...
That's the spirit, Norman. HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

Character you would like to play: Magneto
Powers: The power to control all metal. Arguably one of the more powerful beings on the planet, Magneto is a mutant with the superhuman power to shape and manipulate magnetic fields that exist naturally or artificially. Magneto's power is, for all practical purposes, limitless.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. The X-Men seem to get shafted a lot in these RPGs, and I want to change that.
2. He's definitely one of the best villains Marvel has.
3. I'd like to portray a more civilized villain, so to speak.
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: An interesting villain from a somewhat experienced RP'er. Also dedication and someone to kick the X-Men's asses.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as are needed of me.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
They were fewer. Weaker. Disorganized. A fraction of what they once were.
Now, more than ever, they would be easy to exterminate. Which meant that now, more than ever, they needed someone to stand up for them. Lead them to their rightful place as rulers of this world.
Mutantkind would rise up.

Character you would like to play: Daredevil (identity unknown)
Powers and abilities: Exactly what this imposter is capable of is unknown, but he seems to be able to do everything Daredevil can... and better.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. It's been a while since I've played a mystery character, and I think this could be a good story.
2. I'm a Daredevil fan and I like to play villains. Do the math.
3. It'll be a good challenge in writing action and mystery.
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: Hopefully, I'll be able to give you guys a good story. Besides that, some balls to the walls action with a little luck.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: However much I feel like. I must note to being inactive for a good part of January though, especially the coming week (or I should be anyway). Just getting this application out of the way.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
<TWAK!>
The billy club bounced off of one foe and landed back in Daredevil's hand just in time to deliver a crushing blow to another criminal running up to him. He could hear the bank robber's nose crack and break. The sound was sickening, but Daredevil just smiled as the blood spurted onto his suit.
Two others were already laying on the floor when the third one joined them: the one he had knocked down just before and was unconscious and another holding his broken legs as he screamed and cried in pain. Daredevil turned to face the last one standing.
The gun the robber held was shaking.
Daredevil let out a laugh.
A shot was fired.
Daredevil jumped to the alley wall and using the momentum, charged straight into the gunman.
As the criminal's neck hit the ground, Daredevil could hear it snap.
Vacant eyes looked up to the still grinning hero.
Searching the thief's pockets, Daredevil took out a watch and a bundle of cash from the group's recent heists. He pulled the same wads of money from the other robbers and started to walk out of the alley.
"Thanks for the money, gents," he chuckled as he left.

MARVEL RPG SEASON VII Application For New Players
Screen Name: Catman_prb
Character you would like to play: The Vision
Powers: Strength, Density Manipulation, Flight
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. Always cool to play a robot.
2. I didn't realise he was dead in this continuity.
3. I have an arc planned.
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: A new player, with new ideas. And a new Avenger if/when they're reformed. Or if the New Avengers are already formed...or...whatever.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as I need.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
It was midnight. That much was certain. The old Avengers Mansion had been abandoned for a while now. It was an old hideout for the local youth groups for a while, but eventually even then moved on. There was something eerie about it, something that seemed old, and made them feel like they were being watched. Eventually even the looters stopped entering the mansion's ruined walls. And all was silent in the old mansion. Even the rats never ventured there.
Except for this night. The dark walls were lit up as if by the very fires of hell themselves. There was a roar, like the sound of a jet taking off. Eventually the fire stopped, and with them the noise. Now loud, heavy footsteps echoed along the abandoned hallways, disturbing dust and cobwebs in their wake.
Eventually the mysterious figure came across the pieces of scraps that interested him. A genius in his own time, he started to work on the wires and circuitry. Some time later there was a loud beeping, and a whirring sound. A blue light lit up the dark room, illuminating broken and splintered wood.

Are we starting a new roster, or do the people who PC'ed characters before the reboot have 'dibs' on said characters? I'm guessing it's option 2, so how long would I have to wait to apply for someone who was being PC'ed before the reboot but hasn't been moved after it?

Okay, here it goes:
Screen Name: MaskedManJRK
Character you would like to play: Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic
Powers: After being exposed to cosmic radiation, Reed's body is completely elastic and can bend, shape, and mold it in almost any way he wishes. He uses this both to trap enemies by binding them down, or concentrate it to a specific part of his body and use it as an offensive weapon. His skin being similar to rubber, he is partially invulnerable to bullets and knives, though he can be cut and hurt with enough force.
While not a specific power, Reed is vastly intelligent and considered one of the smartest men on the planet.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. I've always enjoyed the F4--I mean, a family with super-powers who explore uncharted areas of the universe when not punching out dastardly mole-people or evil dictators? How can you NOT love that?
2. Reed himself has always been a facinating character--a guy with Stephen Hawking's brain, Brad Pitt's body, saves the world twice a week and has superpowers? Out of all the characters in comics, Reed is probably the most wish-fullfilling of them all. He is the epitome of geek chic.
3. Wish-fullfillment aside, I also want to explore his flaws--his driven nature, his failures on doing more in improving the world, and the overealming guilt he has from drastically changing and, in Ben's case, disfiguring his family.
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: I liken myself to be at least an alright writer and plan to deliver some of my best here. I also want to bring in a different area to the RPG--while most characters in the RPG are actual superheroes, Reed and the rest of the F4 are more explorers and scientists, and their adventures in exploring the unknown came make for unique stories next to the traditional battle between good and evil.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Between school and doing my own original writing, I intend on posting once a day, and more if needed.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
Reed Richard's Journal, Appendex L: Janurary 6
Checked on Vaccine #4028. T helper lymphocytes were almost depleted, despite extraordinary raise during the past two weeks. Virus seems to have adapted to strain.
Next vaccine will be something different. I have read interest research on abzymes that can destroy the gp120 CD4 binding site, which would make further damages to the immune system inert. With my advanced materials, it is possible to create an even stronger variant to possibly stop the strain. Will put together formula and results when vaccine is completed and tested--
"What'cha doin'?"
I turn to see Franklin standing next to me, looking at the screen. I rub my eyes to take away some of the glare from the screen.
"Oh, just testing another antiviral. It seemed to work for a few days, but the T-cells were ripped apart like all the other ones." I see his eyes go blank and think of a simpler way of saying it. I've been hoping that Franklin would have an interest in science like the "old man," but it hasn't happened--yet, anyway. "I tried to cure a disease and it didn't work." Franklin's eyes sparked with reconishion and he puts his hand on my shoulder.
"It's okay, Dad--you'll figure it--"
"FRANKLIN BENJAMIN RICHARDS!"
"He's in here, Sue!" I turn to Franklin. "Full name, huh? What did you do?"
"I didn't do nothing--"
"He's been skipping out of his classes." I see Sue fly in on one of her force fields, panting. Observation tells me that he's been running from her for a while.
"Now that's just slander, Mom."
"He says a double negative and yet 'knows' slander," I hear her mutter under her breath. "H.E.R.B.I.E. isn't capable of slander, Franklin. It's not in his programming."
"But he's so booooooooring. Why can't Dad do my lessions?"
"Because your father is a very busy man, Franklin. Besides, he created H.E.R.B.I.E., so it's just one step removed."
"It's just not the same--"
"We can talk about this later--now go and do your studies, young man!"
"Alright, alright..." Franklin scuffles out of the room, head hung low. Sue uses her force fields to roll a chair over next to me and sits down. I turn back to the computer and start typing up the next formula but I can feel her looking at me.
"Which one are you working on?"
"What do you mean?"
"You have the look in your eyes when you're not getting anywhere, I know none of the 'super-heroes' have given you anything to work on, and while I'm not a genius, I know molecular chemistry when I see it. Which disease are you working on?"
"AIDS. I'm in the 4,000s now. I know I'm just inches away from figuring this out, but it just reverts again and again and--it's maddening that I can find a new plane of existence and yet I can't figure out how to cure this disease." She turns my chair around and kisses me on the lips. It doesn't help my figuring this out, but it does help me.
"Don't worry, babe. I know you'll find it someday. In the meantime--maybe you should take a little break. It's been quiet on the super-front and none of the greats ever changed the world without a little bit of R&R."
"Maybe you're right...I could start helping Franklin with his school-work--maybe he'll have more interest if--"
"GUYS!" Johnny flies into the lab, in full flame. I stand and move towards him.
"JOHNNY--I've asked you not to be in flames when you come into--"
"Right. Sorry." Johnny lands and extinguishes the flames. He moves towards the computer and puts it on one of the news feeds, with a headline "Mysterious Message Calls Bounty on Super-Heroes." Johnny clicks on the video link it provides and we see the message.
"WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS?
WOULD YOU KILL FOR IT?
WOULD YOU KILL A SUPERHERO?"
The video displays pictures of many of the superheroes known in the United States. Sue grips one of my hands when pictures of us are displayed. But that isn't what does it. It's one of the last lines.
"PLUS A $100,000 BONUS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS"
Franklin. Valeria. Whoever did this, just threatened to kill my children. Sue's hand squeezes hard. I feel Johnny lighting up again. When I contact Ben from his date with Alicia I know at least one of the words he'll rant will be "clobberin'."
We're going out. We're going to find out who put this bounty on us. And God help whoever tries to take apart my family.

To be honest, when I talked to Byrd about the prospect of New Avengers, he didn't seem all that enthused. But we did like the idea of doing our own, RPG exclusive roster for The Avengers. Given that we're the only two that's talked about it so far, what'll end up happening is largely unknown, right now. We'd have to get opinions on anyone who wants to be apart of an Avengers team.
All I know is that New Avengers does still have to be apart of the continuity, but not necessarily still active.

I think it's high time I come out of my hiding-place in the DC games, and finally get around to joining up Marvel.
(Since I'm still a little muddy on where the continuity is, please feel free to correct me so I can edit accordingly)
Screen Name: Andy C.
Character you would like to play: Norman Osborn, a.k.a. The Green Goblin
Powers:
The Goblin serum gives him superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, and boosts his already-genius intelligence. He's also equipped himself with a veritable arsenal of pumpkin bombs, razor-bats, and energy-blasting gloves, not to mention his infamous Goblin Glider.
Outisde of his weapons and supernatural abilities, Osborn uses his company's vast resources and high-tech projects to further his darker personal agendas.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. I wanted to play a villain that can go back and forth between being just a blip on the radar and a major threat to the world at large. Everyone pricks up their ears when Dr. Doom or Magneto does something, but folks (aside from Spidey) usually overlook Osborn until it's too late.
2. I got the hang of playing corporate-types with Ultimate Luthor, and Osborn isn't too dissimilar from Lex, except a lot more pro-active in his supervillainy. And also violently insane.
3. Though I've drifted to DC over the years, I've always been a Spidey fan before anything else, and the chance to play one of the all-time classic villains is just too good to miss.
Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG:
Well, for starters, another major villain, particularly a Spidey villain that doesn't immediately involve symbiotes. I've also got a lot of experience writing 'schemer' characters that come in low under the radar, then knock everyone on their ass, which I think is just about perfect for Gobby.
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:
As much as needed to keep things going.
Please provide a sample post in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least 1 line of dialogue):
Monster.
That's what they called him in the papers. Murderer, maniac, terrorist, criminal mastermind. They'd used every single one of those words to describe him when he was in costume.
They didn't know the half of it.
Today had been a particularly exhausting day at work. Oscorp was going through the process of absorbing a few smaller firms into the company, and Norman had to sit through the whole dreary thing. Usually, getting to flex his corporate muscle was one of the things he lived for, but these were small fries, no real challenge to it at all. It was like a life-long chessmaster having to play against an idiot child. No sport in it at all.
So tonight, he was going to find some sport of his own.
"AAAH-HAHAHAHA-HAAAAAA!!!!!"
The citizens in the streets below instinctively scattered, and not just because they were used to this sort of thing happening to them. Many of them still knew that laugh, and feared it. And they were right to fear.
It was a laugh many of them hoped to never hear again. Countless sociopaths and conquerors and other sorts of villains have terrorized New York over the years, but he was among the first, and he was always the best.
His hideous cackle was drowned out by the roar of his Glider's rockets as he accelerated, swooping down into the glass-and-concrete canyons of the city. As he skimmed the pavement, he tossed a Pumpkin Bomb ahead of him into a parked car, purely for dramatic effect as he flew through the erupting plume of fire.
He then spotted a suitable target: a teenaged boy wearing, of all things, a Spider-Man T-shirt. This would certainly make the right gesture.
Looping the Glider around for a second pass, Osborn snatched the boy off of the sidewalk and pulled him into the air. Holding him by the throat, he got a thrill as he watched the boy squirm in his grip, the fear in his eyes.
It was the ultimate high.
"Congratulations, my boy," the Goblin said, "Out of the seven million groundlings in this city, I've picked you to be my personal messenger! I want you to send a message to your web-slinging hero, Spider-Man."
"*ghhk!* O-o-okay! W-w-hat *hrrk!* do you want m-me to say?"
"Oh, you won't be saying much of anything," he said, his ghoulish grin widening as he pulled a razor-bat from its pouch, "but believe me, he'll get the message."

You could always write her in a whatever way made her interesting before. Like the man said, it's a reboot--we can basically do whatever we want, within limits.
And Venom--yes, please do. If I do get approved as Reed, I would rather not have to NPC the rest of the Four.
You both are right, but I don't think I'd have any fun in writing her. However I am interested in a roster change-up, so I might just see what happens with that and pick someone from there.

Sorry if I spoiled any plans, Harl. I just utterly detest the character for the way they had him utterly destroy Bullseye in Thunderbolts! And I figured he was too obscure for anyone to actually want to play him.

So, are the New Avengers already formed then?
MaskedManJRK
01-06-2009, 10:41 AM
Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards: Uh...yeah, I think so.

In my travels today, I came across this Bullseye VS Daredevil story, written by Gail Simone for Comic Book Resources:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=13320
Hell's Kitchen is the lie at the heart of the American Dream.
That's how it feels to me, sometimes. I want to believe-I DO believe-that for everyone who lives here, there's a measure of truth and hope and justice that they can just reach out and hold in their grasp. Natasha sneers at my optimism. She draws the curtains and points to the hooker working in my alley, the junkie sleeping on my doorstep. She doesn't say anything, but I know what she's thinking. "Where's their hope? Where's their justice? All I see is that they have more truth than they can deal with."
Poor Natasha. We were partners, and more. But she never understood me. Child of the Cold War espionage world, mistrust was part of the air she breathed. I know she thought I was nave.
Funny.
I'm the way I am out by personal choice. As Matt Murdock, sightless lawyer, I've defended criminals I KNEW were guilty. And because I'm good at my job, many of them got off to commit more outrages against humanity. I'd fight and claw and tear and dance to win their freedom, because the law is the law. They must be defended. But it's hard. I've made it a rule that no one I care about will ever know HOW hard. It would eat at me, if that was the sum total of my life.
And so, sometimes, I'm Daredevil.
Daredevil believes in justice, too.
Someone said New York is the city that never sleeps - another lie.
It sleeps, and the great rumbling of its slumber is the garbage collector, the homeless family, the night watchman. I hear it all. Night, day, it makes no difference to me, except that at night, there are far fewer distractions. Less sound cluttering the aural landscape.
I turn slightly from the man who had been directly in front of me. It's always best to present a smaller target when dealing with Bullseye, the homicidal psychotic with the flawless aim. I'd call his accuracy a gift from God if I could forget for a moment the trail of bodies he always manages to leave in his wake.
He's personally killed the two women I loved most in my life. Not entirely for vengeance-mostly because…because he COULD.
We're on a tenement rooftop in my own neighborhood. Bullseye's appearances always have the feeling of inevitability about them. He's there, and it's as though no time has elapsed since I last saw him.
I take him in, with my enhanced senses. He's lost between five and six pounds. Staying hungry for tonight, no doubt. I can smell his excitement. Tonight's the night he plans to kill me, I imagine.
I hear the thirty pieces of gravel beneath his left foot shift slightly, and that's all the warning I'll get.
DAREDEVIL: You missed, Bullseye.
BULLSEYE: Aw, you know better'n that, Hornhead. That little ol' knife wasn't meant to hit you. We have all night. Why rush it? Got some things to talk about, in fact.
DAREDEVIL: I'm taking you in, Bullseye.
Wish I felt that confident. The truth is, I never walk away from a fight with him without hospital time. I hit him, he cuts me. I kick him, he punctures me.
BULLSEYE: Yeah, yeah. You know, DD, this neighborhood is picking up. You see that big Costco they got a couple blocks over now? NICE. I mean, parking's a *****, but the SAVINGS…!
He leaps at me-- a feint, of course I handspring over an abandoned workbench.
DAREDEVIL: …
BULLSEYE: Seriously. I mean, sometimes, you end up buying more stuff than you really need, but if you break it down, it's a lot of dough. I bought this huge jar of pickles, and…
DAREDEVIL: …Pickles?
I block his punch. Again, he's just warming up.
BULLSEYE: Yeah, and I see ol' Clinton's getting a new Red Lobster. Heh. "Clinton." Kinda funny that the other name for Hell's Kitchen would be the President's name, huh? Haw! Say, you ever order those blackened catfish skewers they have there? We should go sometime.
DAREDEVIL: What are you getting at, Bullseye? I assume you didn't come here for chit-chat.
BULLSEYE: Well, now, see…that's where you're dead wrong, Daredevil. Look, does it always have to be fighting with us? I mean, can't we just sit and talk for a minute, sort of get to know each other?
Ignoring his own words, he leaps behind a pigeon coop. In his hands, anything is a weapon, as I find out when he grazes my head with a small piece of dowling from the outside of the coop.
DAREDEVIL: "Get to know each other?" Are you INSANE? You murdered my girlfriend! TWICE!
BULLSEYE: Jesus. I KNEW you were going to bring that up. Good God, it's like you can't let these things GO. Look, if we're ever going to open up a real dialogue…
Thinking quickly, the world's most dangerous assassin makes use of the weapons at hand, and begins throwing pigeons at me.
DAREDEVIL: Enough nonsense, Bullseye. You've screwed up my life, and now you're going to jail.
I dodge the first pigeon, but the second pigeon hits me right in the solar plexus. Painful for me, fatal for the pigeon. This is a dangerous city. But I have no time to mourn.
BULLSEYE: All right, all right. Whatever. I KNEW it was going to be like this, but Doctor Keller said I had to try. Okay. Just a second and we can fight to the death, all right? **sigh** My heart's really not in this tonight. Is it okay if I just wound you real bad and go home?
It was then that he threw the razor-edged condom wrapper at me…I dodged, almost by accident. I brought out my billy-club…using it against Bullseye was always an iffy proposition, since he could use it against me every bit as effectively as I could use it against HIM.
BULLSEYE: See, Dr. Keller's my shrink. Nice guy, you'd like him. It turns out I have a fear of intimacy. You believe that ****? Me!
He throws a vicious spinning side-kick, but that's my game and he knows it. I block, and he takes a solid knee to his gut.
BULLSEYE: Wooof! Jesus! Good one! You really caught me there, huh? I'm really more of a long-range guy. Anyway, don't laugh, okay? Dr. Keller says that you and I are connected, see? He says our costumes are just blatant sexual iconography. He says I'm wearing a bullseye cause I'm receptive, inside--it's like a message, you know? ..And you're wearing the tight red thing with horns because you thing guilt is sexy! I mean, thisGUY, DD! He just friggin' blew my MIND with this stuff!
DAREDEVIL: What what what? I think guilt is…what? You're making this up!
Bullseye takes advantage of my momentary confusion, drops to the litter-strewn tenement roof, and finds a nearly-full bottle of suntan lotion. Before I can react, the bottle's coconut-y aroma is all over my shoulder. Another inch and it would have been my heart. I can't let my guard down for a moment.
BULLSEYE (holding his hand over his heart): No, from my mouth to God's ears, it's true! He says the reason I'm always killing your girlfriends is that I'm jealous! I mean, it makes so much SENSE! Come on, give a guy a chance, won't ya?
DAREDEVIL: But that's…I mean…I don't…
BULLSEYE: Yeah, friggin' rocks your world, don' it? Dr. Keller says the reason I'm always trying to stab you is because I'm afraid of my feelings for you! He says it's CLASSIC psycho-sexualism! Hey, it's dark out here, but are you blushing? AWWW!!!
Again, I try to muster my determination to attack, but Bullseye's words sting and befuddle me. I pay for my inattention with a deadly half-eaten corndog to the temple. Stunned, I wonder if my number is up.
DAREDEVIL: No! I mean, of COURSE not! Listen, Bullseye, this is all very flattering, I guess, but…well, I'm not gay!
BULLSEYE (claps hands): ME, TOO! I mean, I never thought I was, either! But Dr. Keller was really just POSITIVE, and he's SMART!
Bullseye ducks behind a chimney, and the rushing sound of a 34AA bra whizzing by my head wakes me from my reverie. FOCUS, Matt! That bra nearly had my name on it!
DAREDEVIL (Puts hands over his ears): Good Lord, I can't even block out your voice when I WANT to!
BULLSEYE: Hey, look. I know it ain't easy to hear, at first. But listen, be honest now…have you ever had a successful long-term relationship with a woman?
DAREDEVIL: Oh, my GOD!
Ping! Ping! Ping! Tiny bits of dried, chewed gum (Teaberry, Big Red, and some sort of Bubble Yum flavor, by the scent) come flying at me, tearing at my costume and leaving bloody trails in my flesh.
BULLSEYE: That's what I figured. It's almost like I did you a favor! See, you and me are a lot alike. We just manifested our denial in different ways. You went out straight-bashing, and I poked people with forks and stuff. Look, I'll stop trying to kill you, even, okay?
DAREDEVIL: I…I don't know what to…I…
BULLSEYE: Listen, hey, we don't need to rush things, you know. I'm used to broads, too, but this guy really knows his stuff. Hey, I forgot! I brought you some flowers!
DAREDEVIL: I smelled them, over there, behind the chimney.
BULLSEYE: Damn, forgot about them senses of yours! Heh. It's the…
DAREDEVIL: … the FTD Super-Friendship bouquet. I know. Carnations, Daisies, and Baby's Breath.
BULLSEYE: Right. Well, I suppose you already know I also bought you…
DAREVEVIL: …A two-pound box of very, very good chocolates; assorted nuts and crmes.
BULLSEYE: Right, well, I didn't know what you liked. (Pouting…)
DAREDEVIL: What's wrong NOW?
BULLSEYE: Well, it's just that…I mean, couldn't you at least have ACTED surprised about the gifts?
…They say nothing grows in Hell's Kitchen. That the soil is poisoned with blood, that the sun doesn't shine through the despair that hangs over the neighborhood. They say that there are evil men everywhere, here-cruel men with no hope of redemption.
I say, everyone deserves truth, and hope, and justice.
Even Bullseye.
Nice ass, though.

Aunt Petunia was a hype member who claimed to be a girl before she was found out. The poster still posts as Franklin Richards.
I didn't see your photo but that reminds me, Aunt Petunia had a photo of "herself" that's what lead to his undoing, someone recognized the person in the photo and knew it wasn't the same girl.

Just a few questions after your Sharon/Sin post, if you don't mind, Harley:
- Now I haven't been reading Captain America (I know, shame on me), but since when is Sharon so friendly with Sin and so hateful towards Maria Hill? I know nobody likes Hill, but she's still a senior SHIELD officer.
- If you don't want to answer this one, by the by, I'll understand but: Tony Stark, sending people on a kill mission of his fellow heroes? Doesn't ring true to me.
And yes, Byrd, Spidey/Angel would be pretty awesome. I figure sometime after the current arc is finished though.

Maria's tricking Sharon.
Sharon's mind was hypnotised by Dr Fautus, Sin gave back her memory and since then Sharon has laid it easy on Sin but still see's her as an villain. she despises Maria and the reasons will be revealed.
Plus Sharon's jealous Maria has been their a less amount of time Sharon has and is ranked higher.
