I posted this in the Misc. Films board in the thread "What biopic would you like to see?" I'd like to hear the opinions of Beatles fans like myself. What would you think of a Beatles biopic?

I would love to see a Beatles biopic. Maybe have some of the same cast as the Lennon biopic "Nowhere Boy" that came out recently.

Aaron Johnson as John Lennon (reprising the role from "Nowhere Boy")
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3468/lennona.jpg

Thomas Sangster as Paul McCartney (reprising the role from "Nowhere Boy")
http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/7866/mccartney.jpg

Skandar Keynes as George Harrison (Edmund from "Chronicles of Narnia")
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/3838/harrisonl.jpg

Matthew Lewis as Ringo Starr (aka Neville from "Harry Potter"...a little bit out there but he has the same kind of awkward look that Ringo has)
http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/4666/starrq.jpg

Michael Sheen as Brian Epstein, the group's manager
http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/2955/epstein.jpg

Paul Bettany as George Martin, the group's record producer
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/838/martinlt.jpg

Carey Mulligan as Cynthia Lennon (the movie could use a female lead...why not John's wife?)
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/249/cynthiai.jpg

Don't know who would play Yoko. The principles should all be played by actors in their early 20s so they can play the roles during the entire span of the band's career from 1960-1970 and then some.

Aha, The Beatles are the best. I am surprised I haven't found this thread before.

Well i am an avid Beatles collector, and on Aug 9th i saw Paul live at the Air Canada Center.

There have actually been a few Beatles biopics , but they very in terms of quality. Most of them either cover the Beatles early years or they focus on John Lennon. Imo, Backbeat and Nowhere Boy are probably the best.

Birth of the Beatles
John and Yoko a Love Story
Backbeat
In his Life the John Lennon Story
The Linda McCartney story
Nowhere Boy

I think a well done dramatic comedy about Ringo's life would make a fun movie, providing it didn't get too sappy. Which if you include some scenes about his drinking issues it wouldn't be.

I got a question for my fellow Beatles fans. You know how George Martin regretted not including Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane in Sgt. Pepper? Well, what are some Beatles singles that should have been part of albums? Here are my thoughts: Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out in Rubber Soul. Paperback Writer and Rain in Revolver. I also thought about Hey Jude and Lady Madonna in White Album, but that double-album was already pretty packed.

Yeah, I saw Backbeat at the pics when it came out, rock bios are great in the cinema.
There was also a short John Lennon/Brian Epstein film made with the same guy who played Lennon in Backbeat, I'm having a brain fart right now and can't reclal his name.

Your post reminded me that I recorded that John Lennon tv bio movie that starred Chris Eccelstone as Lennon, I'll have to dig that videotape out.

I need all the Beatles movies on DVD. Nay, Blu-ray. Especially "Yellow Submarine" since that one's out of print.

You know the reason why they weren't included on Sgt. Pepper? Because England had laws back then that singles couldn't be released on LPs later on. Personally I don't think many would have minded buying "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" again.

Anyway, yeah, I would make a few changes to a few of their albums.

Rubber Soul: I agree with you. I'd put "We Can Work it Out" on the album.

Revolver: "Rain" sounds like it could fit perfectly with that album, so yeah.

Sgt. Pepper: "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" could've been added to the album

The White Album: Instead of that infamous waste of song "Revolution 9", I'd put "Hey Jude" in its place. "Lady Madonna" could replace the ear splitting "Wild Honey Pie". I'd like to include "Revolution", but I'm also really fond of "Revolution 1" and I don't see how both of those could co-exist on the same album since they're essentially the same song.

Now here's my question to you all: As the largest Beatles album, The White Album has a ton of tracks. Some of which are forgotten about. Which ones from that album would you say are underrated? At the moment, I'd say that "I'm So Tired" is an underrated gem.

I think the Beatles are the only band that could have ever gotten away with "Revolution 9".

Underrated songs on the White Album: "I'm So Tired" , 100% agree, "Savoy Truffle", LOVE that song, "I Will", one of Paul's prettiest tunes, and although I don't know if it's considered underrated or not, I think "Good Night" is just beautiful and they made the right decision giving it to Ringo to sing. His vocal makes it seem so sincere and comforting when it could have been really sappy. Great way to finish the most eclectic Beatles album.

I agree. One of the reasons why I love "The White Album" so much is because there's just so many different genres of music squeezed into one album. I mean, you've got gritty rock that could be seen as the origin of metal with "Helter Skelter", then a few songs later you get an old fashioned ragtime song with "Honey Pie". Also one of the reasons why I love "The White Album" is because George Harrison's got quite a few good songs on there. I mean, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is legendary, but I think that these are gems too:

Yeah, but the album is also very random because of it. They should have organized the songs better. This is how I would have done it (and how it's on my MP3 playlist):

1. Back in the U.S.S.R.
2. Birthday
3. Glass Onion
4. Savoy Truffle
5. Revolution 1
6. Wild Honey Pie
7. Piggies
8. Rocky Raccoon
9. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
10. Don't Pass Me By
11. Honey Pie
12. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
13. Martha My Dear
14. I Will
15. Julia
16. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
17. Yer Blues
18. Why Don't We Do It in the Road?
19. Helter Skelter
20. I'm So Tired
21. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
22. Sexy Sadie
23. Dear Prudence
24. Happiness Is a Warm Gun
25. Cry Baby Cry
26. Long, Long, Long
27. Mother Nature's Son
28. Blackbird
29. Good Night
30. Revolution 9

Last night I was watching a documentary called, "Writing the Beatles Songbook" which John Lennon fans hate since it gives most of the credit to Paul McCartney but they brought up something that's kind of true. Abbey Road is almost a McCartney-Harrison album. By that point Lennon was pretty much done with The Beatles. Lennon even said in interviews that spiritually he had left the band as far back as The White Album. He was no longer interested in "hanging with the boys." I think he said that in his 1980 Playboy interview. So, he didn't really contribute much to the album. Come Together was a song he wrote for a political candidate to use during his campaign. I Want You (She's So Heavy) was written during the Get Back/Let It Be sessions. Because is a John-Yoko song that just ended up there...kinda like Revolution 9 in The White Album. And, The Medley was just a bunch of old and unfinished songs that McCartney and George Martin put together as a suite. Some of those songs went as far back as their infamous trip to India. So, really, the only song that Lennon wrote specifically for Abbey Road was Sun King. I guess you can argue Because, but still, that's only two songs. Meanwhile, McCartney pretty much wrote the bulk of the album and George Harrison wrote two (Something and Here Comes the Sun) and helped Ringo complete Octopus' Garden. Now, granted, some of those songs also show up in the Get Back/Let It Be sessions but Something was the only one recorded during that period since it was released as a single alongside Come Together.

As much as I love Revolver, I think Hard Day's Night would take that title. I think I've said this all before, but the songcraft on that album was just so way before their time. There wasn't any sitars or crazy production from George Martin or pot induced Dylan-esque lyrics....it was just John and Paul working as feverishly as possible to put together the best album they could.

'Things We Said Today' is a masterpiece, a song that sounds like it's been written by a much older, more mature man than Paul's age. And then 'You Can't Do That', which was the first true John song to show off that angry edge that we would see more and more often towards the end of the decade and the beginning of the seventies.

I love every cut off that album.

And 'Help' is truly fantastic, but the two covers I was never very fond of.:o I mean, John kills 'Dizzy Miss Lizzie' and Ringo is, well....he's himself on Buck Owen's 'Act Naturally', but they are still covers all the same.

Yes, very surprising. Although, I'm not surprised by Abbey Road. It's arguably their best album and also has the best stereo mixing. And that's a big deal for anyone who listens to music with headphones. Atleast 70% of their songs are awful to listen to on headphones because of how bad the stereo mixing is. The Sgt. Pepper album, in particular, is completely un-listenable. THANKFULLY, there's the 1999 re-release of the Yellow Submarine soundtrack which re-mixed all the songs. Through there, I got Sgt. Pepper, With a Little Help From My Friends, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and When I'm Sixty Four. And, through LOVE, the soundtrack for the Cirque de Solei show, I got A Day in the Life and the Sgt. Pepper Reprise.

I think I love Revolver and Rubber Soul most. I love Sgt. Peppers, but I love it more when I add some of the songs that were in Magical Mystery Tour like Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, I am The Walrus, Baby You're a Rich Man and Hello Goodbye.

The first one is awesome! Where did that video come from originally? Was it just unreleased before Beatles rock band?

The first video is an ad for The Beatles: Rock Band and yes, it's awesome. :yay:

did Lennon make up with the other guys before he died?

I heard he talked and hung out with McCartney a few times before he died, so I guess so.

Yeah, the saddest part was that it seemed Lennon was finally finding himself, becoming the man he really wanted to be, and then he was cut down.

Paul actually wrote a song for John after he died:

Lennon and Harrison had a bit of a falling out over the fact that Harrison barely mentioned Lennon in his autobiography. Lennon was mad cause he felt he had a big impact on Harrison's life, which he did, to be honest.

As for Ringo...everyone likes Ringo, and Ringo didnt seem to have a problem with the other beatles...even when george admitted to being in love with his wife maureen

Yeah, and Ringo was surprisingly cool with it.

I can just imagine him finding out, shrugging his shoulders and going, "Well, peace and love, you know. He loved a piece of my wife, so what?"

I feel like the beatles had a "whatever" attitude regarding their first wives/girlfriends.

George didnt really seem to mind that his best friend Clapton was trying to diddle pattie, John just cheated on Cynthia constantly (and interestingly...never really wrote a song about her either), and Paul was a notorious hound while he was dating Jane Asher.

But yeah, if i were Ringo, I would've decked George in the face at least once. Its one thing to have your wife cheat on you...but with another beatle?

The Beatles seem to do better with foreigners than with British wives.

Haha, yeah that's true. Every time one of them has had a British wife, it's ended in divorce.

Last week my 8 year old son and my husband watched Yellow Submarine (the movie) for the first time. My son loved it (and goes around singing "We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine" over and over - unfortunately just the 1 line over and over...) My husband thought it was just too strange.

Still listen to them now. I love Abbey Road, I grew up with that album.

I've recently gotten into a big Beatles kick and have been re-visiting their entire catalog. I've been listening to them since high school, but I'm starting to love them a lot more, and am working on buying up all their original albums. I just bought the remastered versions of Sgt. Pepper's and Past Masters and they sound great.
