Matt

With Jman gone, who becomes the new authority of the political forum? Let the nominations begin!

The nomination ceremony will last 3 days and will culminate with a 48 hour vote to determine our new political guru. To be included in the poll, you must have at least 5 people nominate you.

You cannot nominate yourself

I'll get the ball rolling and nominate SuBe and Marx.

Thanks, I nominate StorminNorman and Marx. I don't deserve a Nomination, I usually talk about Ideology. But they really talk about News and such. Thanks y'all.

I see, well then don't tell them until afterwards. And let me just say one of the official duties should be to prepare me a tasty sandwich when I'm hung over, with no mayo (that stuff is gross).

I cannot believe jman left. I often found myself agreeing with him both politically and philosophically. He was a damned fine poster and a decent bloke.

First of all, I never declared myself the political guru on the Hype. What separated myself from everyone else is that politics IS my life. I know more than most people do and ever will on this subject because I study and work within the field. But I never declared myself the supreme authority of all things political here. I felt this forum needed to stay afloat, and that a certain level of respect and maturity was necessary in keeping it above the childish semantics of half the boards here. So I helped to shape the debate by offering long, intelligent responses to the topics at hand. That is what I have been taught my entire life: To clearly articulate my ideas so that people know where I stand. And people started to catch on, or at least treated this forum like it was different from all the rest. It was no longer "Obama is teh awesomez!" or "Billary is a ****" every other post. We saw intelligently written, well-formulated, paragraph-long or more responses. And the posts made for laughs were done with political wit and maturity. People like Jag, BlackLantern, SuBe, Kel, Superman, and others had been posting here for YEARS before I even made an effort to post here full-time. They already knew how to debate respectfully. They already knew a great deal on the topics they debated.

The fact of the matter is, this forum succeeded not because of me, but because everyone understood the dynamics of the topics at hand. Everyone treated each other with respect, and those who didn't found themselves canned. Everyone managed to get along, despite our different beliefs as well, which happens to be a rarity on a site filled to the brim with petty, anger-ridden arguments over permawhite make-up or which untalented yet attractive actress should play Catwoman in a future Batman movie.

What I want everyone to understand is that the Politics forum shaped itself and no one person was responsible for its success. This "election" is unnecessary and insulting because it suggests that either 1) I was the one responsible for the Politics forum's success, or 2) I am so arrogant enough to assume that the only reason why the Politics board is still here is because of me.

Every single one of you met my own personal approval, and judging from the responses I received when I announced my plans to leave, I have no doubt that you are all true friends. But do not think for one minute that I considered myself the purveyor of this forum's success, and do not think that any ordained political "guru" will keep this board as successful as it is. YOU, all of you, will collectively determine where this board will go-- as has been the case in the past.

Good luck, and have a safe and happy inauguration day.
