So I'm wondering what fabric people are using to create the Returns capes?

After doing some research I've learned that there are a few materials:
pleather - plasticy and slick
moleskin - fabricy, stretchy, and smoothe
gabardine - courser fabric (Christopher Reeve type)
broadcloth - cotton used for lining
I was wondering if what exactly was used for the Routh cape. Is there something besides pleather that is still slick but more flowing?
I know some people coat capes in latex and paint them, though latex degrades.
Is there some more sophisticated, slick cape fabric?
