Well... pretty lack luster day of football. Everyone pretty much held serve. No real suprises other than Houston stinking it up as badly as they did. Skins and Cowboys looked awful... I admit it. Still a 16 game season. Guess we will see how it plays out next week. A long week's wait it will be.

i cant believe ppl still believe in this guy

Romo is an average QB at best, who is lucky he is even starting for a football team at all.

Tony Romo

353 yards (Career High) - 3 TD's - 0 INT - Long 80 - 140.6 QB Rating.

FaT_tONle
09-13-2009, 06:50 PM
I thought the Cowboys were awful. I consider the Bucs the worst team in the conference behind the Lions/Rams. Bucs have weapons on offense, but Dallas' defense was terrible. Couple of better throws and catches and the Bucs may have won that game. I am not gonna go crazy over a couple of blown assignments that led to inflated statistics like that.

Either Detroit's defense still has a LONG, LONG way to go, or New Orleans' offense is absolutely petrifying this year. If McNabb wasn't hurt/Vick could play, that Eagles/Saints game next week would be A-MAZING.

Orton didn't win it, a bad pass/lucky deflection won the game.

It could've been only more poetic for Philly fans if McNabb was hurt near the end of next week's game, allowing Vick to step in Week 3. Either way, I REALLY want to see that Saints' offense in action.

Also, AP made the play of the week, imo, with that run against Cleveland. Just wow.

I was surprised by how well the Saints were able to stop the run against Detroit. I know most will be inclined to dismiss this as simply the Lions being the Lions, but the offensive line didn't play a terrible game on Sunday. Only one sack given up, but the Saints defense was clogging up the holes - and I don't think it was merely due to incompetence by its opponent. I think it's possible Greg Williams has fixed that D. Is it possible this is the Saints break out year? This game makes me think so.

Though it's possible I could be vastly overrating the Lions. I am interested to see how they fare against Peterson and Co.

Mastodon123
09-14-2009, 01:34 AM
The 2 games against the Vikings last year the Lions were pretty close, and they would have won the 1st game against the Vikings if it wasn't for a bad call in that game. Who knows what will happen now that they have Favre managing the game.

I wish the Lions would have wait on throwing Stafford into fire until after the bye week, but whats done is done.

Mark Sanchez is 'MR. THIRDDOWN' ...awesome

Either he's the best QB in the league or the Texans' pass defense is completely inept. I'll go with the latter. It is going to be a LONG year for Texans fans like myself. I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-14, maybe even the dreaded 0-16. :(

Yeah that's really going to get it done in the playoffs against Pitt/SD. With the way things have gone with that defense the past few years, if it's close in the fourth quarter and the Pats have the ball, I wouldn't even punt it to the other team on fourth down. That's how bad the Pats defense is.

I'm glad Stafford is learning now. He can learn more throwing INT's than sitting on the bench watching Culpepper throw checkdowns to K-Smith.

Either he's the best QB in the league or the Texans' pass defense is completely inept. I'll go with the latter. It is going to be a LONG year for Texans fans like myself. I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-14, maybe even the dreaded 0-16. :(

That's big time hyperbole. The Texans will finish with well more than 2 wins.

The score does not indicate just how big of a beat down that game really was. Texans were completely clueless on offense and had no idea how to stop the passing game, especially on 3rd down. If this keeps up throughout the year, it will be a recipe for a disastrous season.

I'm very pleasantly surprised by Jets' victory over Texans, since just about every sports writer favored the Texans over Jets. Sanchez looked pretty good out there, but Rex Ryan really make their D look great against Texans' potent offense. If they keep improving, the Jets could be a sleeper this year.

Brandon Jacobs looks forward to ruining Jerry World regular-season opening (http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/09/brandon-jacobs-looks-forward-to-ruining.html)

Believe it or not, Brandon Jacobs is flapping his gums the week the Giants are coming to town.

Jacobs, who has been trading trash talk with Patrick Crayton and other Cowboys for a couple of years, finds it funny that the Giants are the guest for the grand regular-season opening of the fancy new football palace around these parts.

"They should've put Detriot in there instead of us," Jacobs told ESPN.com's Matt Mosley.

Jacobs made that remark as he was leaving the Meadowlands after the Giants' win over the Redskins yesterday. Just imagine what Jacobs will say once he watches the film of the Cowboys' run defense against the Bucs.

Cutler looked bad in that game last night. He forced way too many balls, and easily could have thrown 7ints instead of just 4. He'd better not do that against the Steelers, cause they will eat him alive.

And I'm feeling another injury plagued McNabb season. Looks like Vick picked well in his comeback effort for a team.

That has more to do with Stafford's quick release than either the quality of O-Line or deficiency of the Saints.

The Lions O-Line was underrated last year, people threw around the sack number, but analysis of the stats show that half the Lions sacks came during Jon Kitna's 4 game stretch.

I can't wait for next weeks game against the Giants. They looked pretty good against Washington, but we'll see how their D fares against the Cowboys multi-pronged offense. Dallas's D looked like major **** yesterday, but if they could hold the Giants to 24 the Cowboys will win. They have too much on offense for the Giants to handle. I don't know about that, E-Man. The Cowboys seem to have a game where their offense performs well against the Giants, and then a game they struggle for 17 pts. That was with TO also. I am not so sure the Cowboys can score 24 on the Giants yet. If they can't get 24pts in the game, then the Giants win. Even if they do, Giants may win anyway with how the Dallas defense played.

The thing people don't realize about the Cowboy's offense is that Romo himself is a good enough playmaker to get things done. Not only that, but they have a wealth of matchup problems to create. They have two tight ends that could split wide ad manhandle corners on the edge, and they have good running backs that can work from the flat and inside to keep pass rushes honest. Their pass pro is also looking pretty damn good as well. TO was a damn good weapon, but he wasn't all they had. If the Giants go blitz crazy, Witten gets open even easier. Crayton has always been good in the slot, and Barber is one of the better receiving running backs in the game. Yeah the Giants D is pretty damn solid, but they're not unstoppable. We'll see next week what happens. I hate the way the 'Boys looked on D yesterday, but their offense can make up for alot of that.

They've had these in past seasons against the Giants, and still struggled. You can't assume they'll outmatch the Giants defense, when they don't have that much different a team and they normally don't. I'm not saying the Cowboys can't beat the Giants, but I don't think they'll create the matchup problems you think they will, cause with the same pieces they have been unable to in previous games against them.

Giants/Cowboys games always buck whatever trends either team might be working with during the season....

Rivalry matchups like theirs are hard to predict cause both teams are good and know each other well. Thus, I don't think anyone can call how the game is going to go. It never goes to the script between them.

I did. They nearly won the game yesterday. If it wasn't for a tipped ball, they probably would have taken it. Their defense played outstanding. Carson and his recievers were off a little today. Probably because he sat out of pre-season for a few games. They have a tough challenge next week facing Green Bay, who I think is going to be an excellent team this year. Capers switching to a 3-4 is going to have a huge impact.
