Another Favre joke I heard on TV, this time on Jay Leno:

"Three NFL players announced yesterday they will donate their brains to science after they die. Actually, they were gonna ask Brett Favre to do that but they were afraid after he died, he'd change his mind and want the brain back."

2008 Defensive Rookie of the Year

LB Jerod Mayo: MCL sprain, out for 6-8 weeks

:(

Dr. Evil
09-16-2009, 05:45 PM
Oh for the love of:

When the Patriots lost middle linebacker Jerod Mayo to injury, there was a report that said the team was considering going after Derrick Brooks.

Privately, I wondered if they would first ask recently retired linebacker Tedy Bruschi if he wanted to return to the field.

Well, Bruschi and Brooks will end up as teammates in the end -- sort of. Brooks agreed to join the Worldwide Leader, taking a position with ESPN2's First Take as an NFL analyst. (Let's just hope he's not reduced to a yelling match with Skip Bayless.)

ESPN isn't wasting any time putting Brooks to work; he'll be involved in a chat Thursday.

One question that has already been answered is whether this means Brooks is tacitly admitting his playing career is over.

"I'm not retiring," Brooks said Wednesday. "I told ESPN I would do this until I sign with a team."

No NFL player has engendered and deserved more respect than Brooks over the last 14 years, but it's clear there isn't great interest in his services right now.

Linebacker-needy teams such as the Bears and Saints passed on signing him after serious injuries at the position. If the Patriots do the same, it's fair to wonder if Brooks will be sticking in Bristol, Connecticut indefinitely.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/16/derrick-brooks-joins-a-surprising-team/

Seriously, how many NFL guys does ESPN have now? It's freaking ridiculous.

FaT_tONle
09-16-2009, 07:34 PM
ESPN just needs an amalgam of voices and opinions to get themselves through the week. No one gives a **** about preseason hockey/basketball. Baseball is too regional. You can't be doing Yankees/Red Sox in the mid western and southern markets, at least not until you get into post season play. Same with Nascar but vice versa. Even when the NBA/NHL seasons start, the anticipation for the season really isn't there as much as it is for football and you only need a few analysts to get by. Plus the regular seasons drag and audiences do not pay close attention to most teams nationally and therefore don't demand the same detail as they do with most football teams. It's a valid knock on ESPN nonetheless.

Speaking only as a watcher of TV:

That's what I'm hoping happens. Reality tv is fail. Scripted, non-formulaic tv is win. The fewer Lost's and Fringe's and 24's there are, the more crap we get. Additionally, personalities like Leno (an oxymoron if ever there was one) do nothing for me. But I can't rationalize buying HBO and Showtime because of one or two incredible shows only to get "Blue Chips" starring Shaq most of the time.

Its one thing to be like "Randy Moss is such a freak, I d throw it deep to him every play cause he so fun to watch" like Madden would say, but who wants to hear "Jay Cutler just looks aweful. In a way, I think it's admirable for Rex Ryan not to give the "coach speak" about the upcoming game. "We are going to give it our all. They are a good team. It should be quite a game but still 1 out of 16 game." It's a welcome change for them to say, "Yeah it's an important game."

I do definitely think that the Jets have a chance, their defense is better than the Patriots.

09-18-2009, 01:08 PM
I was just perusing the Patriots depth chart. I think the defense is better than people are giving them credit for. They have a lot of young guys in the secondary whom haven't panned out yet but maybe they just need more time. Knowing the success the Pats have had with the Asante Samuels, Eugene Wilsons, Ellis Hobbs, hell even Troy Browns (at DB) of the world, that secondary can develop. The can get production out of the young LB, they brought in Pierre Woods, they are even high on the kid filling in for Mayo. It will be bad early, but they will make plays later in the year. You just wonder if all those veteran players on offense are going to gel and get on the same page. That might be a work in progress as well. I expect them to win by double digits or a touchdown on Sunday if Brady doesn't go down or anything.

The guys they brought in, Bodden and Springs(starters) are ok players at this point but they're not on the level of Samuel. it says that some young people today have a seriously horrid sense of entitlement, that they've had sycophants kissing their ass ever since they discovered some athletic talent and don't think that they actually have to show that ability to earn something....it also shows that the days of a talent holding an organization hostage are OVER....the 49ers will gradually lower their offer each game he misses and if he does re-enter the Draft, he won't get anywhere near the 49ers initial offer

Crabtree will slip big time if he renters the draft next year. One of the only knocks on him coming out was his speed, and the mystery surrounding his 40 time kept those questions from really hurting him. If he comes out and runs slower than people thought, he could slip due to the scouts' retarded infatuation with 40 times. Not to mention that being out for an entire year due to an inflated sense of self worth, Crabtree is really digging himself into a bad situation here. He's got a ton of talent, but at some point players become untouchable. What is he going to do if he falls to the third? Is he going to ask for first round money since he was a 2009 top ten pick?

The same can be said for any organization that has had several seasons of losing, after a period of success.

However, this situation says far more about Crabtree than it does the Niners. He was drafted in the top 10, specifically the 10th pick. Paying insane amounts of money to rookies aside, the higher you're drafted the bigger the money.

In the end, it's "WAAAAA I didn't get drafted higher than tenth".

Like I've said before, Crabtree should talk to Bo Jackson about what he should expect in next year's draft.

How come different division ?

they're on opposite sides of the country

omid17
09-19-2009, 04:04 PM
How come different division ?

this will explain in better detail

Your team will obviously have their division opponents twice each, so there's 6 games.

Next, they play an entire division from within the conference. For example, the AFC North this year plays the AFC South, so there's another 4 games.

Next, they play an entire division from the opposite conference. For example, the AFC North this year plays the NFC East, so there's another 4 games. So far, that is 14 games.

The last two are against teams from the other two divisions from the same conference that are not up in the rotation. In this example, the AFC North team has the AFC East and AFC West. Those games are decided by the teams finish the previous year. Division champions play division champions. Second place plays second place, etc.

That is how the opponents are determined. Home field, in case you are wondering, is also on a rotation basis.

He wont remain in the top 10 for 3 reasons. 1) Last year was the year of recievers. Teams that needed one got one for the most part. 2)He wont be the #1 reciever in his call, both in terms fo draft status or draft placement. Dez Bryant for Sure, and possibly Been, or Damian Williams will all go be ranked with or ahead of him. It would be a tossup with Williams for #3 wr until...3)Hes made himself look beyond horrible to most teams in what hes doing.

I think hell go mid 2nd at latest, but top 10, hell, top 20 is pretty much out of the question at the moment. Note, he cannot work out for any teams or anything before.

Texans and Titans have a wild game going on. Two touchdowns from blown coverage. One for the Titans where the Texans didn't even have someone lined up against the Titan receiver. QB dumped it off to him and he cruised to the end zone for a 69 yard TD. Then Andre Johnson of the Texans did a run-block fake and the DB's fell for it, which left him wide open deep down field for an easy 72 yard TD.

Score is 21 to 21 with 10:30 left in the second quarter. LOL.

He'll likely be involved in shootouts against Manning, Sanchez, Ryan (twice), Brady and Romo.

Purple Jesus scores again.

Next week for New Orleans....vs. Buffalo

Yeah.....If Drew Brees throws four TD's next week against the Bills and lead by at least 3 TD's, Owens will freaking explode.

3rd and 11 from the 9 yard line and the Texans give up a 91 yard TD run. Pathetic. :(

Yea, I think we are weak in the CB department. They are too small.

Brees is a finger licker.

Bleh!

How can you lick your fingers after sticking them between the butt cheeks of a center?

Doesn't matter, because if he keeps this pace up, he'll be league MVP.

Speaking of JaMarcus, his billed weight is a load of crap. Mario Williams is billed at 6' 6" and 295 pounds. He looks skinnier than Russell, who is billed at 6' 6" and 260 pounds. Methinks Russell is actually over 300 pounds.
