Oakland. Wow.

Of all the teams in recent memory that have managed to absolutely stink, the Raiders are the only one to simply refuse to show any legitimate signs of improvement. They haven't a season with more than 5 victories since that Super Bowl thrashing by Chucky & Crew. That's six full seasons. Even the damn Lions have won more games over that timeframe (27 to 25) and they had a season where they didn't win a flippin' game! Oakland has had some decent players. This really is quite the phenomenon.

Also, a little side note on everyone's favorite blimp, masquerading as a QB; 2 1/2 minutes into the second quarter, the Giants had a 28-0 lead. Practically any other team in the league would realize it's a blowout, get a sense of urgency by this point, pretty much abandon it's usual game plan and adopt a more pass-heavy offense, in hopes of somehow catching up (or showing any sign of life).

Jacksonville lost 41-0; Garrard threw 31 passes. San Fran lost 45-10; Hill threw 38 passes. St. Louis lost 38-10; Boller threw 31 times. Tampa Bay lost 33-14; Johnson threw 50 times. Tennessee lost 31-9; Collins threw 32 passes. Some of those guys didn't even play the entire game.

How many passes did Tubby, who played 4 quarters, throw in the midst of a 44-7 asskicking? 13. Just win, baby. :awesome:

Hopeless.

It's a moot point. Al Davis' mother lived to be 103. He's stubborn enough to surpass that. He'll run that team from a hospital bed if need be.

For a team that has went nowhere... real slowly... over the past 15 years. There seems to be a lot of pilling on towards the Raiders as of late. You'd think they'd be winning games if you total the amount of posts here alone. Are not there like just 2 or 3 Raider fans here- my fandom condolonces goes out to you.

It's not like the Chiefs who at one time were really good in the AFC, and suck out loud.
It's not like Bucs, who outside of Dungy's influence would surley have the worst performing franchise in sports to date.

I guess we all love a daffy old bastard, or at least to pick on one.
Is he out of his mind? Hell, he might be. I saw that embarrassing projector press confrence last season that ousted Lane. but damn.

They're bad and JaMarcus, a portly fellow, isn't so hot. I get it.

The Jets played the Wildcat TWICE last year also...and the Dolphins still beat them last week. This isn't the Wildcat's first season, so I don't know why people are saying the Jets will figure it out for game two. THEY HAVEN'T AFTER 3 GAMES!!!

Likely the next Phins/Jets game will be another close game won by 7 points or less that can go either way. That is how those teams play each other. The Jets won't magically figure out an offense they've seen 3 times and still get confused by.

And the Wildcat keeps evolving. The reason they were able to score on the last drive was because of all the different looks they threw at them. Henne throwing the ball. Ronnie with the direct snaps. Pat White in the shotgun. We have not even begun to see everything the Wildcat has to offer.

And defensively, the Fins outplayed the Jets. The Jets needed two fake punts and a ******** pass interference call to stay in the game.

Yep. The Dolphins outthought the Jets in many ways, and one of the smartest things they did was the times they moved the pocket to one side of the field many times in the game in order to neutralize the outside blitzers of the Jets.

The Dolphins knew how to attack the agressive defense of the Jets, and like you said, the Wildcat keeps evolving. I don't see the Jets just all of a sudden shutting the Dolphins down. No one has found a way to shut this "gimmick" offense down for the long haul yet, and it has been around over a year. Do I think the Dolphins are gonna steam roll the Jets? No, cause these teams play close games against each other, and I expect round 2 to be close.

Rex Ryan and the Jets players are all quite upset over their loss to the Fins, and I do believe that they will be extra motivated in their rematch, and Jets will be playing at home so the intangibles might be on Jets' side. However, I think it's fascinating to see Dolphins modifying their Wildcat schemes, and Jets (under Ryan) trying to do likewise to their defensive schemes as well. We'll see which team make the proper adjustment and bring their 'A' game in that rematch.

OffdaMarcus Russel has been screwed by having to learn new offenses every single season and having nobody to throw to this. Year hes looked bad, but last year espec. the last month he was shredding defenses.

You guys understand how good a qb has to be in order average 200 passing yards, 2 tds, and a 60% completition % per game (which he did over the last few games last year) when his starting wide receivers (johnny lee higgins and Ronald Curry) would fail to make most other NFL rosters.

Accuracy has been a problem for him this year and abit last year, as has fumbles. However, when has Russel ever failed to make proper read consistently? Last year he averaged 1 pick every 46 pass attempts. Thats better than

-Peyton Manning
-Drew Brees
-Phillip Rivers
-Kurt Warner
-Aaron Rodgers

The starters in the NFL with over 350 attempts and a better average were Chad Pennington, Jason Campbell, and Jeff Garcia. Decision making has not been JaMarcus Russels problem for the most part. Last year he was hittin guys who couldnt catch, this year he is just missing them all together.

The Jets definately need motivation in that game, cause if Miami beats them again, then the Jets have no shot at the division, and their playoff hopes take a major blow. Game 2 against Miami is a must win for the Jets, cause I don't see Miami going away this season, and if the Jets have 2 losses to the Dolphins, then the Dolphins will just have to finsh the season with the same record as the Jets.

Miami knows this, and the Jets know this. Both teams are going to be prepping hard for that game.

This is a misleading stat. So he had less INT than those guys per average. Ok, now show me the stat for missing wide open receivers by 10 yards. I would wager he leads the league in that.

Pennington is just way too injury-prone, and I'm surprised that he could extend his career even though he has had two rotator-cup surgeries. And despite his passing accuracy, he has the reputation of not being able to make long passes. However, he's a classy guy and good leader on the field, so I'm happy that he was able to find success in Miami (before the injury).

People saw that big arm when he was leaving college. I saw a guy who threw into triple coverage all the time, and routinely got bailed out by receivers. He never had the intangibles, nor the the control to have NFL success. All he had was a big arm that got him the attention of coaches who felt that perhaps if we tame the arm, he'll be unstoppable. Problem is, his hold out shows he has a poor mindset for a player who needs the kind of work he does. He'll never have success in the NFL, and he'll end up being a journey man that coaches keep trying to help, but never can. You don't draft guys with big arms and no talent elsewhere #1, unless you're an idiot. And Russell is lucky the Raiders are idiots.

Do you know how supremely well that offensive line would have to block in order for Russell to lumber his hefty ass downfield for this?

On the other hand, I could see him scaring the hell out of a 5'9, 180 lb. CB, who moves out of the way simply to avoid being trampled. Maybe even a Juggernaut-like scenario if Russell gets a head of steam going and gets hit in stride with the pass.

I don't understand why anyone would vouch for Russell; he may have the big arm, but he lacks in every other dept, such as the ability to read defense, make good, accurate passes, and good work ethnics. QB is the hardest position in NFL, because you not only need the talent, you also need the intellect to make it work. Unfortunately, Russell is all fat and no brains. He's fortunate that he got drafted by the Raiders, who has a crazy owner who'd not only pay him the big bucks, but also subbornly keep him as the starter. He won't have been able to make it as the third-stringer in every other NFL team. I'd start Brady Quinn over him in a heartbeat.

Bills Fans Rent Billboard to Rip Team (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/10219740/Bills-fans-rent-billboard-to-rip-team)
In a little more than a week, Abshagen, an unemployed 18-year-old from New Freedom, Pa., raised enough money — $1,402 and counting as of Wednesday — through an Internet campaign to rent a billboard and advertise a message of discontent for everyone in Buffalo to see.

"I honestly never thought it would ever be this big," Abshagen said. "Fans are disgruntled. It's out there. It's big. People are going to hear about it."

Starting early Monday and running for a week, the message will be flashed up to 3,000 times a day on a digital billboard overlooking Interstate 190 on the south side of the city, said Abshagen after signing a contract with an advertising company.

The display will feature a message that reads, "It's time to clean house, RALPH," referring to Wilson. Next to that will be a checklist of three names: Jauron; the team's chief college scout Tom Modrak; and vice president of pro personnel John Guy.So, if there's to be any correlation, someone in St. Louis should be looking into securing airtime for a commercial, no?

I will agree that Russel finished the season looking very good, but you can't place the blame outside of Russel himself for his regression. Yes, instability at OC is rarely a good thing for a young QB, and the organization is the worst in football, and his receivers are young or untalented - but Russel simply isn't a victim of a sinking ship, he is the captain of it.

Russel has the skills to be an NFL QB, he doesn't have the mind. The guy came into camp overweight and was wondering why people cared. The guy simply isn't self motivated to be the best at what he does, and that means instant fail in this league. The guy is very much Leaf like - the mental problems are different, but equally damning.

Putting the Lions on that list, even at 6, is simply lazy. The Lions are playing fine football. Considering the opponents they have lost to (a combined 3 losses, most of which coming from Pittsburgh), their performance thus far has been very good.

I think Lions look the best next to all those 1-win or winless teams, but their record still put them at the bottom of the league. At least they have alot of positives for a team that had zero wins last season.

Vanden Bosch fined for hit on Manning

The NFL has fined Tennessee defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5481/) $5,000 for his hit on Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4256/;_ylt=AluJ.SfpByFMx_Kf5xUjRpwdsLYF)

Mister J

Apparently, Ray Lewis was fined 25K for the hit on Esteban ...who later hit up Goodell on Twiiter, asking him not to fine Lewis.

...

There should just be a weekly memo posted at the NFL's website that lists all the fines.

Randy Moss was one of the NFL's best WR before he went to Oakland, and we all knew as a Viking he took plays off at times. Russell is a rook who got paid and doesn't have the motivation to do anything more. He got his paycheck and he is their future already. That is how he sees it. That is the mentality of a BAD quarterback. How did he thank the Raiders when he was drafted? He held out and showed up with more poundage on his gut. That should have been a red flag to the Raiders to give up on him. Players like that have no hope in the NFL. I don't care if he was sent to the great Bellichick at this point. Russell will NEVER amount to anything in the NFL.

I won't edit that part out, cause it doesn't matter. I'd say his "Randy being Randy" antics in Minnesota kept him from being the absolute best as a Viking. Had he not admitted to taking plays off, I'd say he was the best prior to the Oakland trade, but that attitude issue prevents me from saying that.

You may disagree with me, but attitude as a player is factored into how good I feel that player is. Like, when I get into Marino vs Montana debates with people, I easily rank Montana higher not just for Championships, but for overall composure and a tougher attitude on the field than Marino. Despite the fact his stats are not as impressive.

Look at me trying to defend the opposing players.

doesn't matter if the contact was incidental or not...he impeded the receivers route...that's pass interference...

:D The Falcons will only get better. For the Saints now, the only way is down. If Brees gets injured your kaput.

But as a neutral, I wouldn't want Brees to get hurt, he's a joy to watch.

They were like one of 8 teams rumored. Along with Raiders, Chargers, Rams, Vikings, Bills, Jags, 49ers. As soon as the Dome was renovated though, they were no longer under consideration. The other teams remain as legit contenders to move to Los Angeles.
