I'm typing this from the floor of the Comic Con now, and I've got some huge updates to get to, all from the Warner Bros. Panel. We got to see three projects: "Friday the 13th," "Terminator: Salvation" and "Watchmen." I'll post my notes from these panels right here.

Watchmen footage
The intro is new, obviously, taken from the David Hayter script. It works pretty well, but is filled with the “slo-mo” stuff we’ve seen in the trailer.

The title sequence re-invents history using superheroes set to the tune of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’” I like the sequence, but I worry that it may be too long.

After that, the move appears to be a frame-for-frame recreation of the graphic novel. Zack Snyder has seemed to keep his hands off the movie.
The best scene we saw was the “I’m not locked in the room with you.” scene. Jackie Earl Haley is amazing and, at least in my estimation, is about as crazy as Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. I want to see where he goes, because Rorschach is a disturbed individual. And the burn effect is siiiiiiicccccckkkkkkkk.

There are a lot of questions about the ending. People are obsessed with the fracking squid.

The squid is a huge special effect that Adrian Veidt pulls. The effect itself may be different in the movie, but Gibbons suggests that they all go out for calamari after the premiere.
Warner Bros. can make a prequel to Watchmen if they want to. DC did want to do spinoffs after the comic came out, but wiser heads prevailed. But Dave believes that there will be no sequel. If there is, at least Zack won’t be involved.

Everything in the frame means something, according to Gibbons.

Is Alan Moore “bat-*****” crazy?
"What do you think I’m going to say?" – Dave Gibbons
"Alan is one of the most rational and sane human beings I’ve ever met." - Dave Gibbons.
Alan, as we know, has eschewed Hollywood. He doesn’t want his name on the project or any money from it, which in Hollywood terms, means he IS bat-***** crazy.

Will Watchmen change comic book movies?
Watchmen changed comic books, but possibly for the worst. It and "Dark Knight Returns" changed the superhero genre into the area of gloom and doom. Gibbons hopes that Super Hero Movies won’t turn into the same thing (i.e. The Dark Knight)

The question of Dr. Manhattan nudity: “Total.”

Why were the CrimeBusters changed to Watchmen?
It was done obviously to make the title make “sense.” Done for reasons of clarity, according to Gibbons.

Terminator: Salvation

McG was here. I wonder if they’re going to come up to the Christian Bale debacle.

Christian Bale asked “What’s the difference between John Connor at the beginning of the film and the end of the film?” He claimed to put story first.

Someone did make a Bale joke. The mic started to feedback, and someone shouted “Totally unprofessional.” He seemed to laugh it off.

Jonah Nolan did a punch-up of the script.

This is the story of how Skynet came to power. What machines did they go through to make the T-800? You’ll see the becoming of Kyle Reese, the becoming of the Machines, and how John Connor becomes the leader of the resistance.

Now even McG is making Bale jokes
He takes his cell phone out, and he apparently is calling someone. A woman’s voice answers. It’s Christian Bale’s wife, and we shout to her, showing support for Christian Bale.

Danny Elfman is doing the score, which I full-heartedly endorse!
Someone shouts that John Williams is better. Idiot.

Footage:
It looks amazing. It’s obviously not finished yet, but I got a real “Halo Movie” vibe from it. I couldn’t hear a lot of the dialogue, but I’m intrigued for the end result.

Of course there’s a Bale question, and McG fires back “What don’t you ****ing understand? You and me are done, professionally.” He claims that Christian and Shane the DP finished the movie together and are friends now. McG wanted the passion in that performance and the role.

Continuity from T3:
They honor Judgement Day as articulated in T3. The movie is about Kyle Reese seeing people taking sacrifices, which will mirror the sacrifice he will have to take a few years into the future.

According to McG, Bale and Shane the DP made up that day. He didn’t want to out “huff-and-puff” someone who is worked up. He did admit, however, that the remix is pretty hot.

McG is buddies with the people who do "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." He sees them all the time, but he lets them do their own thing and the canons are totally different.

One fan comes up to the mic with a Cyberdyne T-Shirt. He gets to come up to the podium to ask his question. Has Ah-nold seen the movie, what did he think, and will he be in a later film as a human whom the T-800 is based on?
The T-800 plays a big part in the movie, and it’s McG’s responsibility to push VFX forward. He’s trying to create an effect to handle the problem of putting Ah-nold into the movie because he doesn’t want the Ah-nold of today.

I just dropped your interview to Malice. The last few things I did should be up tomorrow.

And thanks for giving the interview, as well!

P.S. I happened to speak to some of the fellows from Comic Geek Speak, and they were very nice and gave me some good advice for being a better broadcaster. So please disregard the joke I made at their expense...

I think the last Con episode was a bit of a con (see the pun there?)

I read Interview and thought, cool we're talking to an artist or writer on the HypeCast that's something I wasn't expecting and then we get a listener...

I'm going to D-Con, an amateur comic book convention in Dundee on the 28th of Feb (If I remember) just thought you'd like to know.
